    Everyone knows the story of how Brian Clough took Nottingham Forest from the lower reaches of the Second Division to European Champions. Films and books have been written, endless tales have been told and legends made about his successes in that half of the East Midlands. But not so widely told is how close he came to doing exactly the same in the other half.

      Yes Clough was very good. Bob Paisley was absolutely brilliant. Credit where Credit is due eh? Paisley has always been " The best manager "England never had. Paisley didn't want the Liverpool job and tried to talk Shankly out of leaving. I know that it's obviously only my opinion but I'm very confident that if Paisley had managed England then they definitely would have won the World Cup much more than once.

    My dad was born in 1960 and grew up a Derby fan. According to him the success at Forest was what really started the rivalry in the East Midlands. They won what should’ve been ours.

    • @chrisrougue
      @chrisrougue 6 лет назад +10

      Guinness I’m really not making City fans look bad. Im not denying the fact that the film’s overlying story is about Clough’s disastrous spell at Leeds, as the most memorable and my favourite scene of the film is the recreation of his famous interview with Revie. But if you actually watch the film, and you’ll find a huge amount of the story is about Clough’s time at Derby before his stint at Leeds as an incredibly important backstory, covering his league win, the European semi final against Juventus, signing Dave Mackay etc.

  • @iaindyson1374
    @iaindyson1374 6 лет назад +157

    The Derby - Juventus game was influenced by a bribed official, no question about.
    The referee for the second leg was offered a car and £5000 if Juventus won. It was deemed to be done by a fixer ‘acting independently of the club’, even though the Juventus general manager had been involved in various attempts to bribe officials previously, including in an Inter vs Liverpool European Cup game from 1965.

    • @jackmiller-johnston8689

      How anyone can hold Juventus in any form of regard after what that club has done in its history, is simply beyond me. Glad they were found out in 2005. A truly vile club with a past that should never be forgotten, let alone forgiven.

    I'm fairly convinced that Derby would still be a super power today in English football and even Europe, had Clough and Taylor both stayed for a couple of decades. Liverpool wouldn't have become 5-time European champs, with County running the show throughout 70s and 80s like Man United did in the 90s and 2000s under Sir Alex. Not much worse in sport than seeing unfulfilled potential.

    • @LPCLASSICAL
      @LPCLASSICAL 5 лет назад +2

      Agreed - what a tragedy for the club. Instead he went to Forest, Derby's biggest local rivals - and made them champions of Europe twice. McKay had a great team in 74-76 but when the best players started to leave they declined. I had the misfortune of following them when they were in he doldrums 1980s - what a horrid decade for the club. Now isnt much better. But Leeds fans can be well pissed off too. With a guru like Clough you do as you are told and let him run the show.

    make a video of Béla Guttmann, please it's the best after this wonderful video of Brian Clough.
    BTW, i think if Mr.Longson dindt accepted the resignation, the team could create a Dinasty like LIverpool had in the 70's , and we proved in earlys 80's with 2 UEFA European Champions Cup by Nottingham Forest.
    and i sugested one video of Eusébio, too

    Dave Mackay. Scilly Isles. A few spelling mistakes also. Apart from that quite interesting. But anyone who knows anything about the great Brian Clough knows about Derby County.
