Thanks for the vid and clear explanation! Everything working now after first encountering the scoped storage issues with the emulators available in the play store. The mupen64plus standalone even runs Mario Tennis well while the retroarch Mupen64 core has a major slowdown on that game with a lot of sound issues and frame stutter unsolvable via core options. Hopefully there will be a solution for redream in the future, as it seemed to run DC games a bit better than flycast in retroarch (based on older yt videos).. My wife is happy too as her favorite platform game Rayman 2 runs rock solid with the retroarch flycast combination at 60 fps.
You need to set hotkeys in the retroarch input settings to open the quick menu. You can set it to L3 + R3 if you have analogue sticks that have buttons or choose something like L1 +R1 if not. Once you have the hotkeys set you can open the quick menu and use the close content option to close the game and return to the retroarch menu.
The same method to install the emulators and access your ROMs on the USB drive should work fine but the performance of the HD model will be a bit worse than the 4K. You should have no issues with 8 & 16 bit systems such as NES, Master System, SNES and Genesis. Genesis 32X and PlayStation should also run pretty well too. The issue will likely be with the more demanding systems such as N64, Dreamcast and PSP which will have less performance than the 4K as it has a less powerful chip than that model. Definitely worth a go though.
Any of the lower systems up to PS1 should run at full speed. I’ve shown the frame rate count on the higher end systems. Systems like Dreamcast will not have perfect frame rates but playable. PSP was running ok. To upscale I had to use frame skip but you could run games at native frame rate. It’s hit and miss and you’ll need to play around with the settings.
The video was made a while ago now so things might have changed in recent versions. I would seek out older versions and test if those behave as expected.
The folder was not created when I installed M64Plus FZ. Also, the M64Plus FZ folder does not appear in the File Commander application. Do you know why? Thanks.

The folder is indeed not created automatically, but you can create the M64Plus FZ folder manually, create a rom directory in it and it will work. (edit see you got another version that creates it automatically)
I just used a Micro SD card with a USB adapter but any cheapish USB stick should also do the job. I’d stick to a named brand like Sandisk though. You just need to format it as FAT32. Use something like rufus to format it if you are on Windows.
Have you entered the path to your usb stick rather than trying to navigate to it? Mine were cso files but whatever PPSSPP supports should work. Did you get the apk from the PPSSPP site rather than play store too?
@@RetroGamesGuideYes, I've entered the path to the USB, then navigated to the PSP folder but as soon as I open it, it doesn't list any games, but all of them are actually there. Mine are cso as well. I can play them just fine if I navigate to them via X-Plore file manager, but it is way more easy and user friendly if they list inside the emulator itself. Oh well ..
That happened to me on the onn box when I did a video for that. I wonder if the same method would work for you on the chromecast. ruclips.net/video/vycgmqKit_0/видео.html
@@RetroGamesGuideYeah although you do not show it in the video it sounds like the same thing and we use the same workaround. Thanks for the video. Is the gameplay frame rate as slow as it appears in your clips? This looks like only about 20-30fps
