The Keystone beef is great for 1-2 people, when you don't want to cook a whole beef roast. Hot beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy. Burritos. Beef and noodles. There are endless ways to use it. The ingredients are beef and sea salt. Honestly, it would probably be difficult to find anything healthier and safer. Sometimes, I've wondered about some of the fresh meat I've seen at grocery stores,
During the canning process of meats, it will essentially create a broth from teh meat. When the can cools down to room temperature the fat and broth will separate. Since the meat is cooked in the can, the natural water from the juices in the meat does not evaporate as it does when you cook meat on the stove or in the oven.
Glad you appreciated the canned meats. I have back problems and unable to stand for any length of time. So I use it when I need to. Keystone is the best for beef chunks.❤
I too have chronic back issues that have left me with a 15 minute window before my leg goes numb. I’ve never tried tinned meat before so I think I will give it a go. I appreciate your post.
I have same bad back issues...i use a chair with casters to sit and move around kichen..lokking in fridge...or at stove cooking...its change things for me
I live in northern Indiana in an Amish community. Our rural grocery stores always have canned meats from Grabill Country Meats Co. I've been using canned meats for over 30 years. I keep some in my food storage for quick meal prep.
I felt the same about canned meats but I grew up in the 60s and those meats were actually terrible tasting. There are nights that i don't feel like cooking and now i will be buying this product. Please keep doing your reviews. I want as many choices as I can get of what to eat.
Keystone is our main brand we buy, especially the Beef. The only way to get any better is to Pressure Can it yourself, we do that too and it is worth doing too. But we are 70 now and it is easy to buy it as well. Test them all and be amazed! Peepers since 2012, enjoy! Be aware most canned beef’s retain a more reddish color, totally normal. Husband is a Diabetic and works great for him too!
Keystone Beef is awesome. Dump the entire contents (juice & fat included) into a saucepan. Simmer until all the juices are reabsorbed back into the meat, then use. The ground beef has a different texture than cooked fresh ground beef. We had a flood Aug. 23rd. I lost about $2,000 in Keystone and Graybill meat. My nephew makes bbq pork sandwiches with the pork. I've only had beef, chicken, and turkey. I live in Ohio, and it's more cost effective to buy from Walmart than directly from Keystone. The ingredient list sold me - beef, salt - nothing else.
I have a bunch of these in my emergency food supply. They are not cheap but I don't have the know-how to can my own in a safe manner. I buy chicken chunks from Sams, no sugar added, and I use them all the time in recipes and love the convenience they bring.
😂 “It actually doesn’t taste as dog foody as I was expecting.” Omg, I just love your honesty. 😂 Great review on canned meat that I’ve never seen anyone else even consider doing. 👍🏻Thanks, Steve!
I like how you said: 'ground beef stuff'. When you opened the can & showed it to the camera, it reminded me of opening a can of corned beef hash from Mary's Kitchen. I wouldn't have dumped the liquid from the pulled pork down the drain because you don't know how greasy it is & there is the possibility of it clogging your pipes.
My significant other has been buying the smaller cans of chicken and beef for winter prep. I have made a few things with the roast beef that turned out great. I think I’ll have him start getting the Keystone ones from Walmart now. I want to try some of the ground beef.
Thanks for this video. I recently found Keystone Meats at my local grocery store, while looking for canned chili without a lot of sodium (no such thing seems to exist). I didn't buy any of the Keystone Meats, but I was impressed with the ingredients list: beef, salt. It wasn't low in sodium, but it wasn't unreasonable. Now, I might give the two beef varieties a try. Those products sure looked rather unappetizing upon opening, but everything appeared to work out fine. You have seriously great hair. Also, did you ever work in radio or television? You have that golden voice.
Loved your review. I can my own beef stew and chicken using mason jars and a pressure canner. It makes the toughest beef super tender and is THE BEST convenience food. I can control the ingredients too - just meat and a bit of salt for flavor. That's it!
We love the roast beef in a can. We used that in our semi truck all the time for dinner. It’s flavorful and tender. Yummy! We also buy the roast beef in a can from Costco. It’s also delicious.
Thumper heard the cans being opened and hung around for dinner!❤ Great reviews! Canned chicken and salmon are staples in our home, I’m excited to try the beef too!
During Covid I bought some canned beef at Walmart (I don’t remember the brand)…but I held off trying it for a long time. Finally…I cooked it and added taco seasoning. OMG, it was good. I, too, was afraid of the dog-food analogy. I’ll definitely look into this brand! Thank you, Steve.
So glad you explored the taste of the Keystone Canned food. I have been considering buying some as soon my husband and I retiring soon and I’d like some canned goods as we are not that close to town ( in a farming community). I think I will! 👍🏼😉
Your cat thinks you are stealing its dinner. 😂 Seriously, I have a can of this beef, which I got at the food bank, on my shelf -- and I have been a little afraid of it. But after watching you take it on, I feel a little more confident about opening the can and setting to work. Your thought about chili dogs sounds spot on.
Iv😮been using the Keystone beef for quick soups and stews fir years, and the pork for barbecue like you did. Love to have them on hand when I don’t feel like cooking. I’m glad you reviewed the canned ground beef because I was Leary if it. Now I will keep that on hand as well. Your recipes looked delicious❤️
20+ years ago, before we gave up bread, our favorite sandwich was Libby's beef, Kraft white American ("Swiss")cheese slices, tomato & miracle whip, on a large onion-cheese roll. That meat had a very pleasant beef flavor, very close to leftover chunks from stew. It is canned in wheat flour gravy, tho'.
I watched a video how Keystone makes these and what they use. I was instilled with great confidence in their simple and natural process along with their use of quality meats. I would feed this and have to my kids. Great video!
I'm a bit weirded out too - growing up (pretty poor) we got to eat such delicious as Vienna sausage and potted meat (whatever the heck that is). Glad it turned out well. Had to laugh at the insert of a cat food commercial, followed by the intense interest of your cat!
Hard to beat for the convenience and long term storage. All they do is put chunks of fresh meat in the can with a bit of salt. The meat is cooked as part of the canning process. Simple!
I've never eaten commercial canned meat, except tuna and salmon, but I can beef and chicken often. There is always juice that is released from the meat during the high heat (240 degrees) processing. If the meat is fairly lean you don't get so much fat. It's not like fresh, but definitely good enough for a quick meal. No defrosting, no simmering.
Keystone Meats is from my hometown. I grew up with them, they do fresh meats too! They supply burger patties to the favorite local hamburger joint in Lima, Ohio.
Thank you. I’m not a Keto person, but I’m not a basher either. I’m gonna go to my local Walmart to see if they have these meats. I recently became a Widower, this will help me. P. S. I hit the like button🙂.
Saw that brand at Walmart and bought a couple cans, even though I didn't need them. That's to encourage Walmart to stock more vendors that don't add sugar to their products. And, hey, it's canned meat. How cool is that? 😂
We can a lot of different meats every year. Everything but turkey. It’s lovely to pull a jar out for a quick meal. Plus, nobody can tell it’s not from the store. It’s also one heck of a lot less expensive than the store canned meats.
Your shirts are often a hi-light of Your vids ☺️ I sometimes need send copy to my Son to explain them to me; but I always know they are funny somehow. 😍 I'm with You on dog food like canned meat but as You have shown us - they 'can' be handy to have around. Thank You SO much as always & More blessings upon You & Yours through this holiday season & beyond!!
Thank you for trying these! I'm always on the hunt for good shelf-stable things to have on hand for bad weather when I don't feel like shopping. I also notice on their website that the sodium content in these is lower than a lot of canned meats, so that's a plus.
Chicken, both beefs, and pork are common here in Michigan, Turkey I had to order straight from the factory. You see the larger 2.5 cans (1.75 lbs) everywhere, and the smaller soup cans (1 lb) are around also.
I have used every kind of meat sold by Keystone and I am still alive. I have made Chicken and noodles, chili, BBQ beef sandwiches and the list goes on. These are minimally processed meat products, and I have never had a problem after using them for years.
I Stopped Ordering From "Keystone"!! Most of the Cans Arrive Badly Dented. Have Called Customer Service many times and Complained, but to No Avail!! They Lost a Good Customer!!
I’m so glad I found this video on RUclips. Your demonstrations of cooking and the reviews have encouraged me to take the leap and try the canned meat I have in my pantry. Thank you! BTW, I hope you gave that beautiful kitty leftovers of the meat (or some other kind of treat.)
I look at these as sort of a "what are we going to have for dinner tonight?" safety net. Quick and easy, but not something I'd not something I'd intentionally plan a meal around. 😉
Since these cans are saying no water added, I'm going to assume they canned the meat similar to when I can meat in mason jars at home. When I can meat I put the meat in raw, I will typically throw a little salt in there and then put them in the pressure canner. When I pull the jars out they are filled with the juices and what fat was in the meat. It's almost like magic when you haven't ever seen it done before, in fact, you might want to try it sometime. I was canning my own chicken when I was buying it in bulk and then I can the venison shanks since they are so sinewy and have all that connective tissue that canned in a pressure canner the meat just falls apart and makes for some great meat for chili and such. Growing up my mom would can chunks of beef and then for a quick dinner (totally not keto) she would put it in a pan to heat up, make the broth/juices into gravy and then would have mashed potatoes and another vegetable and dinner was served. I even remember a few times it was the canned meat and gravy and bread. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do and my mom was great at stretching the dollar but every so often meals were a little on the "lean" side so to speak. Anyway, I'm only a few minutes into the video so I'm going to watch the rest.
Your young son's stamp of approval has me sold. I've watched a few prepper videos where they talk about canned meats, but the thought always made me gag. Now I think I'll pick up a couple of cans for the stockpile.
@@SeriousKeto- WalMarts near me (Central Florida) don’t carry Keystone but I can order it from the WM site and they deliver for free. Shipping from the Keystone site was high.
Before this video I would have turned up my nose at canned beef and pork if I’d ever seen them( which I hadn’t). I do use canned tuna, salmon and chicken so I don’t really understand that aversion but I also had “dog foody vibes”. Now I will likely try them.
We have a remote, off the grid, very small straw cabin. We plan to spend most of our retirement days there. I have been looking for ideas that limit fresh meat. Thank you so much. These look like winner recipes. I had a dog food opinion before about canned meat. Will try soon!
To address the liquid. We raw pack our beef, with just a 1/2 tsp salt, and no water at all. All that liquid is from the meat released during the canning process when its cooked in the can.
I can meats sometimes and I’ve never had an issue with them. Hamburger always gets mushy in the canning process. I’ve never heard of a way to get around that but it works in a lot of recipes!! Great video! Those enchiladas were huge! L😂L almost more a footilada! I’m definitely gonna try that one!!
The ground beef wasn't exactly "mushy", but like I said, very reminiscent of Taco Bell meat (though I'm sure without nearly the amount of odd ingredients).
Home canned beef, pork and chicken are super easy to do. Do not add liquid, add salt stuff into pint or quart jars and process75” for pints and 90” for quarts. Makes its own broth!
@@SeriousKeto This would be a great project for a video. I bought a pressure canner just to do ground beef. There are lots of RUclips videos about how to can meats.
In addition notice the expiration dates. They last a long time I think 5 to 7 years but you also must treat this canned meat as you would glass canned goods … if you drop them or bang them around ( I learned this from a homesteader that cans a lot and also uses keystone meats. She said if treated without care and dropped you could unseal the cans I think this product is wonderful. Thanks for the review
Your simple recipes looked really good! Made me hungry, ha ha! Steve, does eating those low carb tortillas and buns bother your joints? I haven't ventured into those and a bit nervous that it would cause a flare up for me. Hey, I saw donuts on your counter. How do you leave those alone? I would eat them in a flash. I am totally carb/sugar addicted. Thanks as always for sharing. See you next time.
Wow, good to know. I would have stayed clear from that if I saw it in the store. It definitely has that Alpo look when you first opened the can. After it's cooked, I don't think you can tell the difference between canned and fresh cut meat.
Thanks Steve! Love the review. Seems strange that Keystone would send you the samples and then not communicate when you tried to reach them. Regardless - your cooked up recipes looked great!
One of my favorite videos! I appreciate your open and honest reviews, especially with charming grandchildren! I will keep a few cans in the pantry for making your chicken nugget recipe
@@SeriousKeto- I live alone so I usually order their smaller size cans. I think it ends up a bit more expensive but I’m thinking about less waste if I have to go for a while w/o electricity - like after a hurricane, etc.
Thanks Steve! Like you, I've used (and enjoyed) the Kirkland canned chicken in recipes, but have always been reluctant to try other types of non-fish canned meats. With the cost of everything going up I'm going to give them a look-see. Your recipe suggestions always inspire me. ❤️
@@CarbageMan - unfortunately there are no stores which carry the Keystone brand in my area of Connecticut, but I will definitely look at other brands and give them a try!
Great review! I pressure can meats at home whenever I find a great sale. A pint jar holds about 1 pound of whatever meat you’re canning. It’s very easy to do, and so convenient to have on hand! Thanks for all you do - I’m always encouraged by watching one of your videos.
I 1st tried the chunk beef after I had gotten it for emergency stock staples. I made stew. Very tasty. Had recently tried to get it at walmart for again staples. It is very expensive as u said. Not as expensive as amazon as u also said. But if Power goes out for any length of time I want it in my stockpile. I figure all stockpile food is expensive, but doesn't always taste good. Walmart only had shipping available for the ground beef so I got it. Was free shipping and in couple days. My only problem was I ordered 4 cans, received 4, all 4 cans were dented. Not bad dented but dented. Supply I believe is short.
I'm so glad it was a success! I love to have "convenience " foods at the ready once the weather rolls in for winter. Thanks for bringing this to us... oddly enough I was looking at this very company about a month ago! Now I can make an informed decision! And it all passed the Colton and Terri tests! YAY!
Okay- so I got the pork- decided to try it before investing in a pantry full of canned meats so have turkey and beef on hand to try down the road- Made one of my very best dishes- Green Chili- Everything was a "convenience" ingredient- so- canned pork, jarred nopalitas ( and bonus this one comes with jalepenos right in with the cactus!) Added my own pepper mixes - seasonings- onions etc- it was very easy and quick in the long run- AND bottom line it was serve worthy to my former son in law who being of Mexican descent taught me to make the dish in the first place.... this one is for you Mario! Cannot wait to use the other canned meats in favorite dishes... thanks again!
I don't know how I missed this when you posted it. This is awesome! I'm adding this to my once-a-month grocery shopping list. I have such a tiny freezer, buying meat is a challenge. Thanks!
7 Ball jars, 1 large pack boneless skinless chicken thighs, 1 tsp salt, lids on and process 90 min … absolutely the best chicken ever …. Hamburger, pork butt, turkey, salmon…costs about 1.88 a quart to can your own at home like Gramma used to make❤
I would not throw out the beef juice on the shredded beef can. That broth can be used with the Beef & Noodles dish. Thanks for all your recipes & tips!
I like the keystone shredded beef. I can also get Hereford brand at my Walmart, which is very clean (just meat and salt) and smaller serving sizes. I, too, was pleasantly surprised!
I may be wrong, but I think the first canned food was Van Camp's Pork and Beans, so I'd guess humans ate out of cans before feeding cats and dogs from it. It was a revolutionary invention, and I hoard canned meats of various kinds for the zombie apocalypse (and yes, I regularly eat them, for the necessary rotation process.) PS: Glad you're impressed. I'll consider rotating them in! It's very cool to see that they have them at my Walmart! I just ordered all four available varieties for pickup (along with some other things I was going to go there to buy.)
This was very interesting Steve. I too am weirded out by this stuff. That being said, I am pleasantly surprised. All of your recipes looked really tasty! Do you have a video on a keto cream sauce that you used for the turkey? Thanks for a great review. These would be great to have when we need to put something together quickly as you pointed out.
Thanks Steve and THUMPER🐈⬛❤ Did Thumper get to try any? 😂 I’ve had the Keystone shredded beef and thought it was a good every now and then option. I may have to try the others at some point.
I found your reviews and recipes interesting but was fascinated with Colton, so big already and such a serious smart kid and great helper (and guest reviewer). Congratulations!!
So good to see the different recipes you made with these canned meats. I’ve been canning meat for years and just love the convenience! I did cringe when you drained the juices down the sink but cheered when you kept the fat. 😊
"Doesn't smell as dog-foody as I expected".....LOL. I love your candid comments & opinions. Keep up the good work!

I use keystone alot! I really enjoy it!
Can we have videos where the kitty just judges all your food 😜
We definitely need this in our lives!
Your young son's stamp of approval has me sold. I've watched a few prepper videos where they talk about canned meats, but the thought always made me gag. Now I think I'll pick up a couple of cans for the stockpile.
@@ladyfingerhandmade I went into this a skeptic, but this stuff really won me over.
Online only? You make it look so very tasty, I need to try this.
It's available at a number of Walmarts. I'm not sure if they have a store finder on the Keystone website.
@@SeriousKeto- WalMarts near me (Central Florida) don’t carry Keystone but I can order it from the WM site and they deliver for free. Shipping from the Keystone site was high.
Here in Michigan it is in almost all the stores (Miejers, Krogers, Meynards, Ect).
Keystone does not disappoint, the broths are good too!
Before this video I would have turned up my nose at canned beef and pork if I’d ever seen them( which I hadn’t). I do use canned tuna, salmon and chicken so I don’t really understand that aversion but I also had “dog foody vibes”. Now I will likely try them.
I'm happy with the beef. Haven't tried the others yet.
Wow, this is great Steve! I have not tried canned meats for many of the reasons that you talked about so this is so helpful!! THANKS.
These seem such a good idea to stock up on in a pantry. Especially with winter coming and it might be hard to shop for fresh meats. Thank you, Steve!
Have bought several of these at Walmart but became impossible to find after awhile … will have to check now
We have a remote, off the grid, very small straw cabin.
Gotcha
I can meats sometimes and I’ve never had an issue with them. Hamburger always gets mushy in the canning process. I’ve never heard of a way to get around that but it works in a lot of recipes!! Great video! Those enchiladas were huge! L😂L almost more a footilada! I’m definitely gonna try that one!!
The ground beef wasn't exactly "mushy", but like I said, very reminiscent of Taco Bell meat (though I'm sure without nearly the amount of odd ingredients).
Try pre cooking your ground meat and pressure canning it. That seems to give the best texture that I've found.
Good review. I wouldn’t have guessed that these would be any good! Impressive.
Home canned beef, pork and chicken are super easy to do. Do not add liquid, add salt stuff into pint or quart jars and process75” for pints and 90” for quarts. Makes its own broth!
Good info.
She said if treated without care and dropped you could unseal the cans
I think this product is wonderful. Thanks for the review
Steve, I was excited to see that you reviewed Keystone meat. I first ordered some after rave reviews from peppers. I was pleasantly surprised, too.
I didn't experience any inflammationj from La Tortilla Factory's tortillas (unlike Mission and Hero). They also have minimal (
@@SeriousKeto thanks Steve. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.
Wow, good to know. I would have stayed clear from that if I saw it in the store. It definitely has that Alpo look when you first opened the can. After it's cooked, I don't think you can tell the difference between canned and fresh cut meat.
I can vouch for the apparent freshness and savory taste. I made a fajita omelet with it this morning and it was great!
Thanks Steve! Love the review. Seems strange that Keystone would send you the samples and then not communicate when you tried to reach them. Regardless - your cooked up recipes looked great!
I wonder if their "influencer relations" person moved on from the company or something...
One of my favorite videos! I appreciate your open and honest reviews, especially with charming grandchildren! I will keep a few cans in the pantry for making your chicken nugget recipe
Just be aware that there's enough in one of these cans to double the chicken nuggets recipe. 👍
@@SeriousKeto- I live alone so I usually order their smaller size cans. I think it ends up a bit more expensive but I’m thinking about less waste if I have to go for a while w/o electricity - like after a hurricane, etc.
That's how Grandma used to do it. Maybe not as much sodium or additives then as now but...good options for some of the better brands
Thanks Steve! Like you, I've used (and enjoyed) the Kirkland canned chicken in recipes, but have always been reluctant to try other types of non-fish canned meats. With the cost of everything going up I'm going to give them a look-see. Your recipe suggestions always inspire me. ❤️
I'd say definitely try the beef. I just had a fajita omelet with it, and it was great!
@@CarbageMan - unfortunately there are no stores which carry the Keystone brand in my area of Connecticut, but I will definitely look at other brands and give them a try!
I love your wife's t-shirt. Too funny. My generation! 😂
I use these meats in EVERYTHING!!! Great for quick meals when you are short on time!
I'm so glad it was a success! I love to have "convenience " foods at the ready once the weather rolls in for winter. Thanks for bringing this to us... oddly enough I was looking at this very company about a month ago! Now I can make an informed decision! And it all passed the Colton and Terri tests! YAY!
Okay- so I got the pork- decided to try it before investing in a pantry full of canned meats so have turkey and beef on hand to try down the road-
Made one of my very best dishes- Green Chili-
Everything was a "convenience" ingredient- so- canned pork, jarred nopalitas ( and bonus this one comes with jalepenos right in with the cactus!)
Added my own pepper mixes - seasonings- onions etc- it was very easy and quick in the long run- AND bottom line it was serve worthy to my former son in law who being of Mexican descent taught me to make the dish in the first place.... this one is for you Mario!
Looks tasty. Thanks for posting
You guys sold me on it
The meats really did look pretty good to me. I think it would be handy to have some in the situations like you described.
I like the keystone shredded beef. I can also get Hereford brand at my Walmart, which is very clean (just meat and salt) and smaller serving sizes. I, too, was pleasantly surprised!
I don't know how I missed this video but I am glad to watch the review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I may be wrong, but I think the first canned food was Van Camp's Pork and Beans, so I'd guess humans ate out of cans before feeding cats and dogs from it. It was a revolutionary invention, and I hoard canned meats of various kinds for the zombie apocalypse (and yes, I regularly eat them, for the necessary rotation process.)
PS: Glad you're impressed. I'll consider rotating them in! It's very cool to see that they have them at my Walmart! I just ordered all four available varieties for pickup (along with some other things I was going to go there to buy.)
I use the beef to make beef vegetable soup. Very good using lowcarb veggies. I’ll need to try the turkey and the pork. Quick and easy.
First video i see of yours. Now a fan. Subscribed!!! I am starting a Keto journey so tha k you for what you provide.
My heart skipped a beat because I thought you said "Not a fan". 😅
Anyhow, glad to have you here.
Thanks I don't see myself trying it in the near future
There's sort of a niche market for these, in my opinion.
Why not.
There is only meat and sea salt.
My stock up meat for long term storage.
Enjoy them all everybody.
I think I used a combination of chicken Keto Chow (made with water) and cream cheese.
Sounds good. Thanks!
Thanks Steve and THUMPER🐈⬛❤ Did Thumper get to try any? 😂 I’ve had the Keystone shredded beef and thought it was a good every now and then option. I may have to try the others at some point.
Awesome video! The fact that you include non-Keto diet people is really telling of the product, especially a 4 year old child…💋🧚🏻♀️❤️🇺🇸
Very brave! I’m scared!
I'll know better next time. 😉
I love those shirts man
Have some of each in my prepping stores, but haven't eaten any yet. I rely on reviews like yours, so thanks for making the content!
