- A playthrough of Sega's 1997 motorcycle-racing game for thr Sega Saturn, MANX TT Super Bike.
Here are the time codes if you want to jump to a particular spot:
2:40 Saturn Championship mode
Shows Laxey Coast, TT Course, Laxey Coast Reverse Mirrored, TT Course Reverse Mirrored. Finishing in 1st place unlocks the Superbike mode.
21:00 Saturn Superbike mode
Shows the same courses as the Championship mode, but is played using the powerful "superbikes."
36:00 Ending
39:00 Race at Laxey Coast with the secret sheep bike
I input a code on the bike selection screen that replaces all of the bikes with sheep. Yes, it is just as odd as it sounds. Think that the horse car from Daytona USA was novel? Just wait until you see this!
_________
Sega released several ports of their popular Model 2-based arcade hits on the Sega Saturn, and despite this being one of the extreme few that Sega did not develop themselves in-house, MANX TT ended up being one of the best selling and critically lauded conversions they released on the 32-bit console.
MANX TT Superbike is a motorcycle racer based on the real-world Isle of Mann TT competition held annually off the coast of England. It features two courses: the easier of the two, Laxey Coast, is a course created specifically for the game, while the more difficult TT Course was modelled after the real life track on the Isle of Mann. The two tracks can also be played in "reversed mode," technically bringing the total number of tracks to four, much like the Ridge Racer games did.
If you're new to MANX TT, the first thing that'll probably grab your attention is the graphics and the sound. While they are clearly scaled back from the original arcade version, they do an admirable job of reproducing the general look and feel of the impressive coin-op original. There is some pop-up in the far distance and all of the shadows end up looking like the usual Saturn checkerboard patterns, but the framerate is consistent and smooth, and the much of the detail has been retained despite the significantly lower polygon count. In terms of presentation, it is overall about on par with the quality of the Saturn port of Sega Rally Championship - it's unexpectedly close given the Saturn's relative lack of power.
The second thing you're likely to pick up on is the difficulty level. Though you might expect an easy to pick up and play experience given that it began life as an arcade title, MANX TT is a game that demands near perfection to successfully complete. In fact, the only Sega Saturn arcade port that I can think of that's harder than this one is Sega Touring Car Championship, and not by a wide margin. You will need to memorize each turn - the angle of approach, the appropriate gear and speed, and the exit of each corner really need to be committed to memory if you don't want to find yourself banging into corners and being shredded by the merciless AI. It's very satisfying to play after a ton of practice, but it'll put you through your paces before you get there. One word of advice: like so many other Saturn racers, don't even try to playing it with a digital-only controller. The game requires the precision of the analog 3D controller or the arcade racing wheel - with a d-pad, you'll overshoot nearly every turn, and quite likely throw the controller out of frustration. With an analog control scheme, though, it plays like butter.
Though it's sorely lacking in content, MANX TT Super Bike will keep you busy for quite awhile, and it feels great to play. If you are looking for something that gives a bit more immediate satisfaction, though, you'd probably be better of with a copy of the simpler and easier Hang On GP ( • Hang On GP (Saturn) Pl... ).

Except for the code put in to unlock the sheep racing mode, no cheats were used during the recording of this video.

In a conversation with a former Tantalus employee years ago, I found out that this port was made using Tantalus's inhouse engine. It's the same engine used for the Saturn ports of WipeOut and WipeOut 2097.
MANX TT isn't as immediately accessible as you might expect of an arcade port, but if you can stick with it, you'll find there's a ton of depth to this one. And those graphics - wow! Grade A stuff for the Saturn.
Meow meow I'm a cat
Loved this game. Not sure if there was a PC port, I'd kill for Sega to re-release their classic racing games, too many to mention here.
I just picked this game up and your right, I'm kinda stumped by this game. Do you have any tips to share?
@@AJBats The biggest thing I think is to play is with a wheel or the 3D controller. The d-pad makes it way too hard to play.
@@NintendoComplete I've got the wheel, I'll focus on using that, thanks!
Having played the arcade version dozens of times, as much as I enjoy that on real cabinet, the Saturn port here looks absolutely beautiful. The skies are a lot nicer than they did on Model 2A-CRX. Tantalus nailed it here.
I spent so many hours as a kid playing this game. Sega Saturn was great but the arcade version was the best
Well yeah, you really can't compare a commodity $300 home console with a multi-thousand dollar (in 90's dollars) arcade board, there are always going to be noticeable compromises.
PASSIN THE CHECKPOI
Passing the checkpoint!!!
12:40 that sandwich and knockout
Was that a glitch or a feature?
@@JediMasterBaiter I think that was intended, having NPC crashed out is kinda fun, but you can't really take them out of the race because the rubber banding is quite serious.
@@vinching926 I didn't mean the crashing. I meant the bouncing.
@@JediMasterBaiter You mean that bouncing of the crashed biker pieces? I think that's just old method handling free falling objects and momentums
looks brilliant
Am i crazy, or are the drums that plays in the finish sequence the same ones that gamefreak used in the ds pokemon games?
Can you play Jelly Boy (1995) for SNES? Not to be confused for the "Smart Ball/Jerry Boy" game.
It's very underrated and there is no full playthrough on youtube.
Esse jogo tinha tudo para ser o melhor jogo de motos da geracao... faltou mais pistas modo de campeonato e etc... a Sega merece estar onde está... 🤔
Cool beans.
The Isle of Man is between Ireland and England, somewhat near Liverpool. The Isle of Wight is in the south
Ah you're right, I totally confused the two of them. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hey bro. I have another cool request that I think you would like to participate on.
The game is called "Pigskin 621 A.D." by Bally Midway. It was available for the arcades in 1990 and ported over to the Sega Genesis to be retitled as, Jerry Glanville's "Pigskin Footbrawl" in 1992 by Razor Soft. . Always loved this game. Personally, I would recommend the arcade version by a landslide.
Anthony..
SEGA MANX TT SUPER BIKE!!!
I don't care man, I loved my Saturn.
This game looked very nice considering the machine wasn't even originally built for 3D graphics.
It was built for 3D... but very badly ;-)
@@brugges no it wasn't, it was built well enough to do Virtua Cop 2 and VF2, and those looked great!
MANX TT SuperBike was made in Japan in 1997?
Has to be, the comment below the vid says 95 but it was later than that.
@@Grandmastergav86 I guess. But in North America, Japan and Europe are here in arcade
Sweet
Very nice
Nintendo complete do you have an all time favorite Snes arcade port. Mines would be mortal kombat 2
For me it's probably Sunset Riders
@@NintendoComplete good choice
while it looks like snaefell mountain course its layout is completely wrong and has nothing to do with actual tt
Cool
I think I had played PC version of this game.
Like I said on this channel's comments, I'd love a re-release of Sega's Arcade racing title as a compilation, just having them running stably on modern OS would be cool.
Is there a PC version that uses the arcade announcer.
8:21 Anyone saw that biker fell off?
I've never seen they highsided on their own, most of the case just like the 8th place purple rider and 3rd place blue rider at their first encounter
this was such a letdown, it was Sega's followup to Sega Rally but was inferior in every way. how they thought they could release a game with one track is beyond me. Shame, if they actually created some new tracks and a career mode it could have been great. that's Sega for you though, they'll make inexplicably stupid decisions and turn success into failure.
It had 2 tracks, quit smoking crack.

*Nintendo publish sega game*
Not hate comment*
My thought is that good games are good games, no matter the platform, so why not? :) Sega did lots of great stuff.
@@NintendoComplete ye even scary stuff like sonic CD
This game is a bit meh 😂
it was very fun back in the day, especially the arcade version with the bike
ronjon83 I didn’t mind the arcade version on the bike. At home id play road rash 😎
