    I know this was a planned video. But why did it take them so long to get the man out of the water (which we never saw how they did that. Why were the team on the pilot boat not ready for such an occurrence? Pilot boats pull away quickly when the pilot is climbing the rope ladder. Surely everyone should be at action stations until the pilot is safely on the ship, or back on the pilot boat. The video is great, but it gives the wrong impression. Great respect to all pilots. They work in some terrible conditions.

      Yes, you are right.

      Precisely because it's a planned demonstration video. With things done more slowly than in a real emergency to allow the video viewers to digest, learn and retain the content at a steady pace. So they can clearly see and learn what to do. If they did the demonstration super fast as they would do in a real-life emergency, crucial key specific detail would be missed and not learned by the viewer, due to things happening too fast to adequately process.

    Very good lesson for new pilots.

    My father worked at the pilot station all the time i knew him, he died with his boots on. He would say there are pilots who haven’t taken a dip, and there are pilots who have survived and dip. Older guys, heavy, out of shape, drinkers, semi sober, cigar smokers, not for the faint hearted. These days its way safer and the guys are different breed.

      Capt. Jack who was also a Pilot taught at a Marine Residential Centre, he may have collapsed while boarding a ship, while on Pilot duties, a valid reason for all ships to carry similar to Germany, defibrillators and persons trained to use them. The Maritime Labour Convention will enforce this regulation. # HeroesAtSea.

      Are deaths and injuries common? I wonder how some of the older pilot's manage to do this?

      It's a teaching demonstration, deliberately done at a slow pace to slowly show all the detail and aid the viewer to learn.

      A Pilot guides ships in areas close to coast. He is a experienced and qualified Seafarer.

      Maritime Pilots have existed for at least 500 years. Aviation has only been around for just the last 120 years. The aviation industry stole the pilot title from the maritime industry.

    Why the fuck he moved . Instead of waiting till he onboard the ship

    • @BbyJLP
      @BbyJLP Год назад

      Probably because it is scripted and the boat needed to be out of the way, so the actor/stunt man didn’t get injured by falling and hitting into the boat.

    • @robophobic3716
      @robophobic3716 Год назад

      A worse scenario is the pilot falling between the ship and the pilots boat. Good way to be crushed, sucked under either both and scredded by the props, or just plain drown.

    • @andywilliams7323
      @andywilliams7323 Год назад

      1. So if/when the pilot falls he has a soft injury-free landing in the water, rather than a hard high-injury landing onto the deck of the pilot boat.
      2. So that when he's already fallen and in the water, there's no chance of him being crushed between the side of the pilot boat and the side of the ship.
      3. So that when he's already fallen the pilot boat is far enough back to see precisely where the pilot has fallen in the water.
