When I got married I felt I discovered the meaning of the verse "do not let the sun go down on your anger" simply means to forgive one another quickly. It really is the secret to a happy and successful marriage.

I completely agree about the screen time. My kids don’t even know the phrase “screen time”. We limit it to Friday night movie night and an occasional educational video.
Thanks for not being afraid to speak truth! Love you guys!

I totally agree on the screen time and technology stuff. I actually did a research project on the affects of screen time and social media on children in my latest university semester and I think the negative impact is hugely underestimated. It was pretty eye opening and makes me really sad honestly.

Loved this video and I am so glad the comments are back on. We feel the same way about screen time. Our oldest is turning 10 and she still only gets about 30 mins of screen time which is part of our family movie night every night. I've always taken coloring books, easy crafts, and books to restaurants to keep the girls occupied especially when they couldn't have a conversation with us. =) During long roadtrips, we travel with a box full of activities ranging from puzzles, coloring books, sketchbooks, travel journals, stickers, bingo, bracelet & jewelry making crafts, small toys, books, and photo books (yearbooks, family albums, etc). We have gone on 16 hour long roadtrips and this has definitely worked! =) Love that you are doing this with your family.

Now, I only allow it every once in a while for no more then 30 min. It blows my mind how much parents use screens and is honestly just sad. Some use it without restriction. Appreciate you for standing out of the norm!!

Nate and Sutton you really make a beautiful difference in the world with your videos. And I particularly liked this one as I think you really managed to show what good dynamics you have in your relationship and how Nate isn’t controlling at all! Dont let any haters get you down. We know who you are and for me, I have been abused by men when I was younger and watching your videos makes me feel safe, inspired and closer to God. Seeing how you treat each other and how a relationship should be and how a man should treat a woman it gives me hope and make me less afraid of all men which can be difficult when having gone through abuse but your videos make such an impact. You are not only helping people get closer to God you are part of my healing process as someone who went through trauma by the hands of men. Dont forget how important you and your videos are. P.S Sutton you look so beautiful in this video and you are such a inspiring power mama! / /Much love from Sweden 🇸🇪

So agree on the "don't go to bed angry" advice. We will have way uglier fights if try to hash it out when we are sleepy instead of just letting it ride until morning. Don't let resentment build, be quick to apologize and forgive, but sometimes you can go to bed unhappy with each other and it's ok.

❤ I appreciate you very much. You’re doing a great job as parents and I admire the discipline you build into your children, in a way that lets them be kids and keeps them healthy. You are paving a good path for parents that want to learn from you. Thank you and please speak more on the opinions you have on screentime, parenting in general, I do trust they are all informed.
The questions were good. Hi Sutton, I see the answer to the one about the girl making the first move has feminism embeded, not the Bible. I am saying this with kindness and with appreciation for your work here. It is a good standard to want a life partner, a husband that has learnt from God to be a man and that implies knowing when to take initiative. God has built men to be like that, the ones that take initiative, the ones that protect, the ones that provide. A man that does not do these is not living his full manly potential God envisioned for him. And most certainly he is not happy, nor fulfilled. And it is a fact that if you take initiative at the beginning as a girl, you will set the expectation for the future that in all key decisions you will have to make the first move. As a girl I do not wish to take this kind of fight on. I want a strong marrige, that means both my husband and I have learnt from God what our identity and roles are through His eyes and in His vision

    • @nateandsutton
      @nateandsutton  9 месяцев назад

Thank you! And yes, I agree. Def ideal for the man to make the first move, I was more so saying if maybe he hasn’t seen you/noticed you but you know him. Like for instance if he’s a friend of someone you’re friends with, so you know of him but maybe he doesn’t know of you yet kind of thing!

I’ve felt convicted about it for a long time but my husband and family say it’s no big deal. Thankfully I’m a stay at home mom and control what they do most of the day. We have *such* a whining problem with our almost-3yr old and putting him in his room usually makes it 10x worse 😢 almost everything seems to escalate it so I usually end up giving it time, trying to distract, explain why biblically we shouldn’t complain, encourage him to try using words, etc and eventually it comes down to discipline. Maybe it’s his age and it’ll get better as he’s able to communicate better but it’s one of our harder issues with parenting right now especially with the overestimation! Appreciate this video though in many ways (my hubby and I met on eHarmony!) 😊

    • @nateandsutton
      @nateandsutton  9 месяцев назад +1

Take this for what it’s worth but I’ve heard that putting them in their room might not be the best spot bc you want their room to be a place they want to be and a place they like (for sleep). But if they view it as timeout it becomes a negative spot. Idk if that’s true but I heard it somewhere and it makes sense 😂 we usually just do the guest bathroom. It’s small and safe and nice and boring 😂 our son is 3 too. It’s a hard age! But the whine out thing is working. We’re just to get him the second he stops whining and when he comes out we give him extra attention (a lot of times it seems they act out for attention) so we don’t give it when he’s whining, we give it when he comes out to reinforce the good behavior 😊

Genuine question - do you not worry about with the “whine out” that they may feel abandoned when you shut them off into a separate room? I know most cases when children/babies are getting really emotional like that it’s usually just an overwhelming feeling that they don’t know how to handle or recognize, and usually they just need connection and someone to be their calm in the storm and to help them identify what they’re feeling. Just curious how you perceive your side!

Screens literally rewire kids’ brains for instant gratification and cause so much emotional upheaval for them

  • @karafroese1835

As someone who grew up in a conservative Christian home, I hope one day you guys realize that hitting your kids to discipline them is not okay. My most visceral memories as a small child involve running in terror from my 6'6" 250lbs dad as he came at me with a wooden spoon. The sheer terror, anger, and shame I felt as he pulled my underwear down to hit me will never leave me. I have long since forgotten why I was punished.
And then being told by the church that God the Father is loving and merciful... I was told that God disciplines those he loves. So I accepted that God wanted me to suffer because my earthly dad made me suffer. Spent years clinically depressed, suicidal, and unhappy, all while professing to be filled with joy because this was God's discipline in response to my perceived disobedience... Wow I've needed years of therapy to begin unpacking the damage caused by being hit by someone who is supposed to love me.

I relate SO much to this regarding the screen time! the phones in a restaurant - gah - hurts my heart. I feel like if we were to meet in real life we would be very aligned 😆 I also have 3 kids (8, 5 & 2) and screen zombies would be a heck of a lot easier but it is so so so much better to not even go down that road. Our kids don't expect devices except on a plane and for a long time that's where they thought they worked only! I have also found just not watching tv for the most part really minimizes our arguments around screens because one of my kids finds it much harder to switch off than the others. There will be plenty of time and opportunity for all this technology in their lives. And yes these things are addictive and as an adult I have a hard time with them - I wouldn't let my kids smoke or drink alcohol (also addictive) so why would I expose them to these things where they have very little defense against them?

But I wish I could take that back my oldest is 12 and youngest is 6 I'm glad my youngest doesn't love tv all that much but my 12yo 🤦 if anyone has good ideas on how I can rectify this I'd greatly appreciate

I agree, I think phones are addictive!
I wouldn’t even do the tv before bed. Doesn’t actually help to produce Melatonin. “Tell a vision”

I heard some good advice recently about if women should make first move, women could ask man along to event or something she is already going to with other people then it’s low pressure and then leave it to man from then x

Please pray for me. I can't seem to stop sinning. I am worried for my salvation. When it is convenient for me I lie to get what I want. I am applying for jobs right now and am lying about my skills when applying for jobs. I have been deep in lust and I just get a couple hours of sleep. My spirit is broken and I just keep repeating this cycle. I have been out of work for 10 months now and have gotten desperate. I am hungry, unhealthy, and feel distant from God. Thank you for your prayers.

Just don’t get how y’all are getting so much hate!! If I ever have kids (I’m only 22 tho) I want your parenting advice. Love your parenting style!! I literally would buy a book about it if you’d make one!!
I totally agree with the kids and electronics. My blood always boils when I see parents giving the phone to their kids at restaurants!!
    Hope you post more soon😊

Thank you for your screen time comments! It seems rare these days that young parents don't use screens as "babysitting" and don't encourage interaction with people. Great parenting advice!

Concerning screen time, is there anyone that could offer me advice that has been in my shoes?
I am a SAHM and recently had my 2nd son (8 weeks old) and have an almost 2yo. Before my 2nd was born, I was very consistent with 0min-30min of screen time a day and felt very passionate about keeping it that way. I would easily go an entire week without it.
Im ashamed to say that now, I feel like I dont know how to keep my toddler settled down or entertained during the day, without the TV, while I'm breastfeeding or trying to get the baby to sleep.
I am alone at home for usually 11-12hrs before my husband is home and simply get overwhelmed. I tell myself, it'll only be like this until the baby gets a little older and doesn't have to nap as much/when I stop breastfeeding, but I hate that he watches as much as he does. I almost always have christian educational videos, worship sets etc. on. He never gets to play on my phone, we don't have an ipad, and he never watches anything in the car/while were out. Any tips/advice??

Hi! Hoping I might could be of some help :) when I had my second my first was 16 months and when I had my 3rd my older two were 3 and 2 so I can def put myself in your shoes! First of all yay for being a mama to 2! You’re in the thick of it! But you got this! 💪🏽 one thing I wanted to let you know, is you aren’t an entertainer. I fall into this too! But I think it’s important to remember and to know our kids don’t have to be entertained 24/7. Yes it’s awesome to play with them when you can, but it’s also important to start building those independent play skills that they’ll only get from practice. Whenever I was BF my baby I would sit in the playroom with my other son to do it so I was still right there. I could play with him with my other hand if I really wanted to, but mostly I would just watch him and he would play. Try setting out interactive play toys like blocks he can build with, cars he can drive around, maybe some of those coloring books where they just color with water. This worked great for me and cultivated independent play without my interruption. You’ll be amazed what they come up with to do! Hope this helps 🩵

ALSO I’ll add. If you need to lean on the tv a little in this season I wouldn’t beat yourself up for that! 11-12 hours without help is NO JOKE!

I understand where you’re coming from. I did lots of free screen time from 1-3 years. I felt during those young years he didn’t know better when we were out at restaurants or just acting out in general so I always brought along an iPad. It 100% affects his behavior but if I wanted to eat in a restaurant with my then two year old I needed that iPad. I took it away at 4 because I felt like that was a good age for him to understand right and wrong behavior. When I took it away completely it was a rough two weeks but after that he forgot and never asks for it. RUclips is the WORST! We do not say stupid, dumb, idiot, shut up and I feel like that’s all the kids say on RUclips when referring to each other in those kid shows. It’s not good for our children to watch.
My favorite kid show is Octonaunts. Super cute and educational learning about all the sea creatures.
      💚

@nateandsutton Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate your input and I needed that reminder of not being an entertainer. I definitely fall into that trap alot. I'm gonna try these things and in general will try to bf in different rooms other than the living room, since that's the only room with a television. Seeing it is what usually makes him "ask" for it more. Out of sight, out of mind seems to work so I need to implement that more

@@07BBrookethank you for your response! Makes me not feel so alone when I hear other parents giving themselves some grace during this hard season. I also feel like as he would get older, it would be easier to explain privileges and rights/wrongs. Gonna keep trying my best with balancing everything day by day!

So agree on the "don't go to bed angry" advice. We will have way uglier fights if try to hash it out when we are sleepy instead of just letting it ride until morning. Don't let resentment build, be quick to apologize and forgive, but sometimes you can go to bed unhappy with each other and it's ok.
