Nice video, great to see you there with your boy I miss that used to do that with my son when he was about same age, cherish it they grow fast I lost my son almost 2 yrs ago
God bless you. Like seeing young parents involving the kids. They will remember everything they did with their dad. This is love and care for your family.
I've had the Revolver X4 and now I have the Roll-N-Lock on my new Ram 1500. A couple thoughts on why I ended up with the roll-n-lock. The Bakflip isn't as secure as you would think. I was able to take a piece of bailing wire and bend a hook into it, slide it in the crack between the cover and the tailgate and pull the latch cable in under a minute. I wanted to test this out because my new tailgate works off an electric solenoid and if it fails I was trying to figure out how I would get into my bed if the cover is indeed locked. The roll-n-lock is one more step with a key but they lock pretty dang solid with metal lugs that shoot into the rails. The Bakflip uses those triangular latches and you can even find videos on youtube showing how easy it is to pry the corner up with those style latches and pop them open. The roll-n-lock is much more secure which was my main deciding factor. Plus if my tailgate latch solenoid fails I can easily get into my bed with the key. Just some thoughts.
Camp Lejeune NC. Allot of people in my company drives a truck including me. Most of us opt for the aluminum rollers or tri-fold. Yes its manual operation but less moving parts and zero maintenance. We have a few that has the rollback or similar products breaking down after two years. My friends cover only retracts by a foot and he has to push it hard to reset the lock. My roller is still working perfectly fine. Just a few melted parts but its under the cover and does not compromise cover and security. Oh I have to change the clip the holds the cover when rolled. Its plastic so very susceptible to wear and tear.
I have watched 20 videos on Tenua covers. Your review on the compatibility with Rhino accessories was a game changer. Roll and lock = axt = low profile and allowing for bike mount while towing travel trailer = unbelievable. Done!!! Adding to my purchase list for my new Tundra!
All of these auto rolling style covers have always had a huge box behind the cab that holds the cover when rolled, this one is surprisingly way smaller and doesn't take up as much room. I was planning to order the X4s soon but may have to look into the roll n lock a bit more
I had a roll and lock on my Dakota for 6 years, the only time I didn't like it was in the winter. If we had sleet with icing, there was no way to open it short of going to a self serve car wash and blasting it with hot water. Oh, the joys of not having a garage, other than that it was a good unit. I'm looking at the Revolver for my Ram 1500, to avoid that issue.
Did you ever have occasion to remove your X4s? It looks like it is held in place by a couple of bolts up front. Is it easy to remove and replace? I really like the retractable bed covers, but I don't like having space permanently taken up by a cannister. The X4s looks like it could be more easily removed if I wanted to use a truck tent or something.
Good comparison... but i highly recommend the Diamondback Tonneau cover. You will pay a tad bit more, but its American made, has the best security, and has a lifetime warranty. It will outlast the life of the truck, unlike these two covers.
I’ve had multiple retractable covers over the years. Loved the functionality of them, overall pretty secure as well. However over time they all leaked profusely. I couldn’t even keep a pair of boots back there or a gym bag over night if it was going to rain as they’d be sitting in a puddle the next day. I’m curious what your experience is if you have this cover for a year or more.
I put the X4S on my recently delivered F-150 and absolutely love it. Feels secure (at least for a rolling cover), was incredibly easy to install and is low profile. Only thing that bugs me is it doesn't lock in place at certain points along the bed, so only fully open or closed is how it has to be; that's not on the cover though, it's just the nature of rolling covers and I get that so not really any biggie haha I haven't had a single issue so far, but I've heard the manufacturer is incredible with handling warranties for it.
Great video! I’m looking for the same tonneau and rack solution for my Jeep Gladiator. Ironically enough, the Revolver X4S for the Gladiator has the T slots while other versions of the X4S do not. However, the Roll-n-Lock XT looks like an awesome option. I want a secure locking tonneau cover for day to day use but the rack option for bikes and other gear only when camping and towing my small camper (4 or 5 times a year). The Gladiator is my first pickup truck and I’ve not have a tonneau cover before so I’m not sure which product will ultimately fit my needs best but one high racking factor is the ease of locking - the Revolver appears to have an edge here as no key is needed. What has been your experience, do you miss the Revolver?
I like it. Wondering if there are any bars that do not pretude 4" or so on either side for a more streamline look that still utalize the quick disconnect legs.
In regards to your comment about having a kayak... They're usually 10 feet long, and if I attach that To the rack, most of it will be hanging off your five foot bed.... So those rails are kind of useless and only for small items, they would have to be taller or just put a roof rack on the truck... Pretty cool cover
You're right, there are pros and cons of both. I had a Roll N Lock and now I have a Revolver. I like both of them and can't really say which one I like the most, I'll say the Revolver because that is what I have now lol.
I retract what I said. My Revolver 4s is failing. The fabric is peeling off on the side and the rear. I've only had it for about 9 months. I'm bringing it to the place I bought it from and they plan to take pics and see what BAK says. I want another Roll N Lock, I had it for 13 years in the South Florida sun with no problems ever.
After watching your video I’m interested in doing the same set up but with crossbars that can change elevation and a cargo rack that is flat like the rhino rack pioneer. Have you looked into either of those products?
No I haven’t. With this using the bed cover rails as mounting points does make it a bit weaker then some others I’ve seen with higher elevation, but those are for like kayaks or ladders…
Hello, Thanks for this video. I am the person who asked about the X4s being able to be held at open positions other than just at the end. You directed me to this video. In this Roll-N-Lock unit I would like to know how the rack stores at the rear (inside) the bed of the truck. Does it take up much space? I assume the X4s can not be held open at random positions other than the end. Is this a correct assumption? If I really dont need any of the other add ones such as the basket or bike rack which would you recommend between the two discussed and why? Thanks for your rapid response for the question previously asked on the X4s video directing me to this video.
The roll-n-lock does use a small space inside the bed for the box storage. But it’s pretty small. A lot smaller then the competitors. (It’s kind of their bragging point. If you don’t want their rack system they have more affordable options. I’d give one of those “non-XT” versions a look. Hope this helps!!
I had a x4s on my titan and loved the sleekness of it. It was a bit cumbersome to roll up especially for my wife. Have you had any issues with the roll n lock sliding? Just seems like metal on metal is no buenos.
If you want the X4s with tslot rails, buy the Truxedo Elevate TS rails (which are compatible with the X4s) and then you have both. :) They are an additional $230 but worth it if you like the X4s. I wish they would make a X4s-t with integrated tslot rails, then that cover would be perfect.
I have to say I thought the roll n lock would keep more water out, but it seems to me there is a lot of leaking going on when you opened and closed it again. Does not seem to keep water out too well.
There are two others I've been comparing just like this one. BUT they don't have that annoying strap. You open it with a key and lock it in any position (not just 2) they are the Retrax and SyntecicaUSA (I've read the synthecicaUSA is more waterproof, but made overseas so it's significantly less money than Retrax) My big question that I haven't found the answer to yet is: What is the canister size of all 3 brands. I'm thinking the smallest canister combined with the best waterproofing would be my choice.
I like the X4s but I used to work for an aftermarket truck accessories company and grew really fond of the the Truxedo Sentry CT and that's what I ended up getting that for my ram. Just installed today and super happy!
I have two questions. 1. can the cover be partial open when driving? maybe 1/3 way open or 1/2 way open? also the latch on the frame on the both side of the rear gate can that be fold down? looks like it can be in the way, possible break off. Thank you.
1. Yes. It has two partial open positions that “latch” open. (Roughly 1/3 and 2/3 for my bed length) I based my cross supports to match those stopping points. 2. I don’t understand what you are trying to ask, might be some auto corrects in there…. Nothing folds outside of the storage box.
What's not to like about the roll-n-lock? Well, it being twice the price of the revolver is a negative for me. I appreciate the info in the video though. The revolver it is for me. I've been working all my adult life. I don't consider rolling the cover up once every 3 or 4 months as tough duty,
I’ll double check it. But I think if you go through the drop down options it will give you what you need. I did throw in the exact part numbers in the description if that helps.
Yeah, it’s there. The 3rd drop down has an option for “truck rack”. I agree that could be a little more refined on their end lol. Always smart to double check product numbers.
I want the Roll-N-Lock for my 1500 but my only concern is if it will still perform after a cold winter. I live in Canada and it goes down to as low as -40c to -45c at times and most of the time my truck is completely covered in ice and snow.
I live in Minnesota, but I haven't had a winter with it yet. the revolver did fine in the winter, but I did try to avoid rolling it up as much as possible. Which is what I'll likely have to do with the roll-n-lock this winter.
@@TruckOwnership101 I live right up north from you in Manitoba winters get super nasty in these flat prairies. If I were to buy either one I would be doing the same thing avoiding to open them up unless needed. If anything I’d just park it inside my warehouse if it gets stuck haha
RollnLock will freeze and be in operable in winter speaking from experience specially if water doesn’t properly drain from canister (ice freezes in bottom and cover can’t retract). This always would happen when you’d need cover to open
Anyone have any experience using either in the winter? I have a tri fold and its fine in the snow but often freezes shut when it gets a bit more icy. Im a bit worried the roll and lock may jam in the cold/ icy conditions. Would the revolver still work as it looks like it might break the ice as it flexes and rolls up.
