Ah yes. The days when you didn't have a VAR check for every goal and players don't have to wait to celebrate
It has turned me off to football, man, I can’t STAND players looking around instead of enjoying their goal. VAR OUT.
Yes, the days when teams unfairly won entire tournaments due to referee errors and players' careers could be derailed by a single mistake.
I'm kind of happy we have VAR now.
@@frankvandorp2059 there is so much irony in your statement. You think teams are winning fair and square every game they play wih VAR? You think goals are ruled offside even though they're on because of broken measuring metrics with VAR? You think warranted red cards are not issued because of VAR when refs could go and have a look themselves but opt not to? You're kidding yourself if you think VAR has improved the game. It's only made it more controversial and kills games when done wrong (which is absurdly common now in many games)
@@M8cool You're delusional. Yes, VAR is not perfect and mistakes still happen, but they absolutely happen something like 90% less often now. I remember how every world cup in the past until 2014 was a long parade of referee errors and several teams were unfairly eliminated. Think Argentina v Mexico and Germany v England in 2010, on the same day.
In 2018, this happened not a single time. Every team that lost, lost fair and square. And in addition, a lot fewer dirty fouls happen now because players know they won't get away with it.
VAR is great for the game. People who whine about it now just have the memory of a goldfish and can't remember how thoroughly football refereeing sucked in the past, and they think that an occasional ten seconds uncertainty after a goal is the worst thing ever. Get over it, princess. I want the game to be fair.
@@frankvandorp2059 Germany v England was literally the reason why goal line tech was brought in (and it's been doing a fantastic job since). Don't confuse goal line tech with VAR. VAR is supposed to make the game objectively fair (and that's what everyone wants). You misunderstand in thinking I'm against the idea of it. I'm against the people BEHIND VAR, as well as the measurement metrics for offside (even you couldn't defend those little dotted line measurements they did last season). VAR calls are made by referees at the end of the day, and referees are always going to be error prone (bizarrely more so in the PL than other leagues). If it becomes independent like goal line tech in the future and more importantly OBJECTIVE in its ruling, it would greatly improve the game
Even Keane didn’t step straight in Ibras face 😂

For those wondering how a match between Ajax and Manchester United could be led by a Dutch ref: This is from the friendly pre-season Amsterdam Tournament where Dutch referees were allowed, in this case René Temmink who, at 203 cm (6’8”) and 109 kg (240 lbs), would turn even unruly bullies like Zlatan into whimpering puppies by just looking (down) at them. Ref ain't a fighter. He ain't knocking nobody out.
Referee is Rene Temmink.
Temmink started his career as a youth coach with local amateur team Helios in Devente, while playing football himself.[1][3] When a referee did not show up Temmink decided to replace him.[4] A KNVB official invited him to become a referee.[1] At started as a youth referee, but advanced to senior matches in his first year.[3] He was promoted to the KNVB eastern district in 1987.[3] In 1990, he reached the C-list and was promoted to the B-list of Dutch football a year later.[1] During the 1993-94 season he made it into the A-list and became an international referee on 1 January 1995.[1]
In the 2001-02 season Temmink was promoted to the FIFA Referee Group 1, recognised as one of the 30 best referees in Europe. On a national level he showed up in more traditional matches like the Klassieker between Feyenoord Rotterdam and Ajax Amsterdam as well as various UEFA Champions League matches.[1] He was also the referee at the 2002 KNVB Cup final between Ajax and FC Utrecht.[1] In the 2003-04 season Temmink led one match in the Ligue 1 in France.[2]
Temmink led his last game of his career on 23 December 2006 between SC Heerenveen and Excelsior Rotterdam. KNVB official Bert van Oostveen awarded him a batch and a document in honour for his contributions to KNVB related tournaments.[3] In total Temmink was part of the KNVB referees for 15 years, with 11 years of international matches.[3] He was the referee in over 400 matches in the Netherlands.[3]
His first match in professional football was a match between FC Emmen and TOP Oss, while his first Eredivisie match was between Sparta Rotterdam and Roda JC.[3] Temmink led 75 matches of the most important international tournaments like the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup and international matches.[3] Among his most notable matches are matches like FC Porto-Celtic FC, Galatasaray SK-FC Barcelona, Chelsea FC-FC Bayern Munich, AS Roma-Real Madrid and FC Barcelona-Panathinaikos.[3] As well as Germany-Denmark, Spain-Brazil, Belarus-Italy and France-Israel.[3] He also led the final between France and Spain at the youth world championships in Egypt, as well as the European Super Cup final in Monaco between CSKA Moscow and Liverpool F.C. in 2005.[3]
Among his favourite stadiums Temmink names Old Trafford and De Kuip.[1] Temmink thinks Pierluigi Collina and Anders Frisk are among the best referees in the world.[4]
As of 1 January 2007 Temmink is part of the technical staff of the KNVB where he will provide his knowledge and experience to the younger generations of football referees in the Netherlands.[3]
