I made a Bb piccolo clarinet!

- I made a Bb piccolo (Sopranissimo?) clarinet pitched one octave above the standard Bb clarinet! The body of this instrument was 3D printed and the keys were 3D modeled by me and cast in brass by Shapeways.
www.shapeways....
still not as high as the legendary unlisted clarinet
Nice reference 😭
God tier obscure reference
The audio for that one was digitally created though
@@JasonAlder yeah i think they edited the sound so it was an octave up
I see you're a musician of culture as well
It finally exists! A real piccolo Bb!
In 1930's italian Kalion build a brass Bb piccolo clarinet, albert system.
This man is the woodwind version of trent hamilton
check out richard bobo! he's currently in a many year long process of designing, prototyping, and refining the worlds first subcontrabasson! I think he is on version 3 right now, and is about to graduate from mixed plastic/wood prototypes to a fully wooden instrument with all metal keywork
Jared, congratulations on this amazing new instrument! I look forward to the day when they will be available for purchase. I see myself incorporating this instrument in my larger clarinet ensemble pieces! Looking forward to hopefully purchasing one, too!
There's still the Piccolo in C for you to bring back from the dead ;)
Was there ever one??
@@organist1982 Yes, I saw a photo of one somewhere. I can't recall where
Congrats on getting so close to the finish line!
Hey it’s you!
LET US BUYYYY
I kid I kid
…👀
Always love to see your new and innovative designs 😁
The soprillo clarinet can't hurt you, it's not real...
My guess as to why the Ab clarinet was made was so that it could play the piccolo parts in marches. For example, Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" is in the key of Ab.
This looks and sounds fantastic Jared!! Congratulations on the new creation and I hope you make a million $$$ from this! You are amazing!
I'd be excited to see a G piccolo clarinet as well, as it would resemble the fingerings of a recorder (low F would sound like a C) and I think it would be fun. I don't think there's any out there yet.
Incredible work! A big step for you, and I look forward to seeing what you'll accomplish next.
This man is the mad scientist of clarinet, bravo!
Congrats, I love that you made this plus can't wait to finally hear it in a piece.
This is so cool. I'd buy one.
You literally make the most interesting instruments and I want them all
You inspire me to learn the clarinet so that I can play these instruments you keep making!
Do it
Damn, you finally did it. Congratulations, dude --- love your work.
I look forward to purchasing my own!
Amazing job! Congratulations!
Wow! Nice piccolo clarinet! ❤❤❤
Extremely impressive.
This (and you) are amazing! I am holding out for your D clarinet!
I've never heard of an Ab piccolo clarinet. I don't think those were mentioned in the orchestration books ever, and I know I haven't seen one in a band or orchestra. I always believed the only piccolo to be the lower Eb one. It was cool learning something new today!
Most people refer to the high Eb clarinet as a “sopranino clarinet” piccolo clarinet is an old outdated term for the most part.
Hey Jared! this is incredibely cool! I have seen your 3D printed bass oboe and could you try making a 3D printed Oboe da Caccia? It's a very cool instrument and it just haves 3 keys.
I've always wondered about this exact thing. Thank you for all the time and effort you give to the clarinet world. I don't play much clarinet these days but my trusty bass clarinet is doing great and I love seeing advancements in clarinets.
Have you done a Bb basset yet? Something about the sound of super low notes on a standard clarinet shape is just magic.
I agree! I think all Bb clarinets today should have the bassett notes!
I have a Bb Basset that Jared made. It may be for sale soon.
It would be great to add one to my albert system clarinet collection. Great job Jared. It looks and sounds great...
would be considered a soprillo clarinet?
I think Soprillo is more of a brand name for the sax made by Benedikt Eppelsheim as opposed to a musical term.
@@Jared_De_Leon ok, thanks
It would be sopranissimo
So cool! Great job!
Dude that’s awesome.
This is awesome man. Way to go
Bravo! Really impressive craftsmanship and excellent demo. But it doesn’t seem to reach any higher than a good E♭ clarinet. Do you think others could make more use of the top range? If not, I don’t know what practical interest there would be.
Yes! I'll be buying one of these RIGHT AWAY
When and Where will the print files be available?
Amazing! congratulations!
IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
Amazing! Just a couple of tuning tweaks and this would be soooo useful!
I want one
HE POSTED AGAIN!!!!! Ur really cool btw
Make a 3 Contrabassoon or Contraforte, please.
Your creations never fail to amaze! I've watched you for a few months now, and I've been astounded by every 3d printing video and intrigued by many of your other videos! Keep up the good work!
I do have a question though; will this instrument be available in any way? I know you said in another comment that you werent planning to sell the .stl files, which I understand, but will you sell versions of the actual instrument?
That's crazy

Clarinet
What kind of reed and I think you said you are using a soprano sax ligature?
Will you make some to purchase? I would love to have one!
Bravo - I loved seeing/hearing this new piccolo clarinet. However, I wish you had held it still - you were tossing it around so much that it was disturbing to try to focus on your craftsmanship when you kept moving it around so much…. Perhaps you can remake the video and just hold it still? Thank you 🙏
That's just how I talk! Check out the last 20 seconds for some close ups.
@@Jared_De_Leon I’ve seen many of your videos so I know… I suppose I will have to find moments in the video that I can pause it so I can see it better. That last 20 seconds isn’t enough to satisfy my curiosity…. 🤷♂️
Are the files available/would you be willing to release them?
It's not really designed with DIY in mind, the keys require special reamers/taps and the assembly requires skills only a repair tech would have. I do have printable files for an A piccolo clarinet available on my website JDwoodwind.com though.
@@Jared_De_Leon understood, I don't have the skills to design one (and would love a video/other explanation) but I do have the equipment and I'm working on the repair skills. Is there some other reason for not releasing files? I just don't see the downside, but of course they're yours and you don't have to
@@featherfawkes4330 part of it is a fear of someone just copying the design and selling it (which has happened to me in the past believe it or not). But also even after designing and printing the body I put a lot of work into voicing the instrument by hand and I feel that makes the instrument truly special, I want to be confident that every JDwoodwinds piccolo clarinet out there has been set up as well as possible, and I just don’t think that can be the case if I simply release the files. I hope you can understand, I truly support people building their own instruments and I hope others can use my designs as inspiration for their own projects!
@@Jared_De_Leon absolutely. On that note, are you thinking about putting together any guides on those things? The voicing and hole locations are something that have me stumped and I couldn't find much already online. Are you doing math to find the theoretical location or just trial and error? That seems way too complex to just be trial and error
@@featherfawkes4330 I’m mostly just doing trial and error honestly. I started by making educated guesses for the positions based on my Ab and just kept making prototypes from there. This is probably the 10th body joint I’ve made.
I played E flat all through college and accoustically it's a mess, and even A is not so great compared to B flat.
so tiny
