You playing the $99 piccolo sounds better than me playing $3000 piccolo, that's for sure.

Yeah I agree, but the $99 is kind of the same model there is nothing about it that is better for a beginner rather than hers.
Amazon musical instruments are for beginners, students, practice and recreation.
Pro performances need pro made musical instruments.
@AJ Kalvelage The average student along with their parents won't be spending $3000 on an instrument, which the student might or might not continue in their musical education. Especially, if it is the first instrument of the student.
@AJ Kalvelage Maybe you don't understand the purpose of the instruments made by Amazon. Considering it seems like your posts imply, they shouldn't even be considered.
The difference between cheap and expensive really comes down to minute things, but I like this option for people who just want to play around with one
totally, why not have the option?
The affordable $100 piccolo would be nice to allow a young family member to have fun with with less worries .

The 99$ piccolo has more of the hissing sound. Your 3000$ piccolo is clearer.
Keep up the good work on the vids! (Especially the editing XD)
Aww thanks!
But it's not 30 times clearer ;)
I don’t know why this was recommended to me but I’m very grateful!
Happy to have you here! Thanks for watching!
It sounds like a fair Piccolo for the money, but clearly your's sounds so much nicer. The question is, does it sound over 3 grand better? Probably not for most players, unless they are professionals or a student at a higher level....that also has the money to invest in their instrument.
I dont think it's not only 3 grand better for the sound, but also the quality of materials that lasts forever.
As a general rule for musical instruments, buy a cheap one until you get good.. you shouldn't even think about an expensive instrument until you covered your scales and practiced hundreds of songs..
I disagree. Get a cheap one til you're sure you want to commit, but a quality instrument will be way easier and more enjoyable to play, ultimately nicer ones will keep you in the practice room longer than cheaps with problems. I know hundreds of great musicians,, and the only ones that know "hundreds" of songs are retired
@Rita Cardinal fr. Being a musician is a lifetime commitment. You might as well get the nicest one you can afford once you get some basics down. My friends family has a tradition, they go in blindfolded to pick their new instrument so you aren't influenced by brand or tone or looks. All that really matters is sound and feel. that's how I picked my first bass after playing nearly every bass in the store. I immediately knew it was the one I wanted from the first note I played.
unless learning harmonica
Peter M the thing is that with any instrument, a beginner needs to get it checked out by a repair tech or an instructor. This video is a perfect example. A beginner piccolo player probably would have thought his or her playing sucked because they couldn’t get a solid tone. Amelie immediately was able to identify the problem as a leak in the right hand and also that it was likely a leak that might resolve itself once the pads are broken in. The more professional instruments are play tested thoroughly before they go out, packed securely in a padded case that will last as long as the instrument. Still a beginner especially would need to get this instrument checked out because it may have been jostled during shipping or set up incorrectly. Also, a beginner won’t know what to expect from their instruments. When I first got started,i played on a flute that my friend gave me for years thinking that I couldn’t achieve a good sound. My tone was airy. I finally decided to take lessons to improve my sound and the instructor told me almost immediately that I had leaks and they were causing the airy tone.
Also cheaply made instruments may play fine for a short time, and then have problems appear. My repairman always tells me about these cheap instruments that come in and the repair costs more than the instrument is worth. If problems gradually appear, the beginning student is likely going to think that their technique is deteriorating instead of thinking that it may be problems with the instrument. I always tell my sax students to get an inexpensive pre-owned horn from a reputable brand and dealer and get it checked out by a repair tech. This is just until they are sure it’s something they want to play. After that I tell them to sell it because they can get close to what they paid for it. Then buy a quality horn.
You shouldn't by any instrument. You can lend nearly any instrument in good quality, especially if you book a teacher. If you start with a crap instrument, you will loose your joy for music very fast. Of course there can be usable budget instruments (as this one in the video) but most are a pain in the ass -and in the ears.
I thought Piccolo was the green guy from Dragon Ball
Love Dragon Ball!
Yes
Well, you're not wrong
Both are true...

The piccolo for 3k sounds way better by far, the sound is more crisp and the transition between notes is more fluid .
Your piccolo most definitely sounds nicer in all ranges.

Slang and jargon are not meaningless, especially in a realm as intangible as sound. If you lack the expertise or ability to pick up on the differences that falls on you. Don't attack others because you lack a skillset.

Flute ASMR could be a thing... Never know? ;)
Some people have done it. I might try it one day
Not with a piccolo lol
I don't think I'd play the Eastar long term in a concert band or in an orchestral setting, but for $99 it's not bad. Would make for a good outdoors/travel piccolo or those occasions when the director wants everyone in the section to play the Star and Stripes solo on piccolo. So I think it would be better for the more occasional piccolo player on a tight budget.
Our piccolos are siblings. I currently play on a Yamaha 82 piccolo with a Mancke headjoint. :)
Of course yours sounds better but for $100 it is one I would take camping or on a float trip.

Undoublty, the Yamaha makes a much cleaner sound.
The Eastar would be great for begginers and for taking the beating you dont want your good piccolo to take.
That's such a bad move. If you want to discourage a beginner give him a garbage instrument and he's going to quit fast, specially if he's a kid. :)))
@@dncviorel This Eastar is hardly "garbage". Besides the leak it seems like a great starter or marching piccolo, especially for an experienced student flautist who isn't sure they want to commit yet. "Garbage" would be a completely broken down instrument, not merely lower quality.
Besides, I wouldn't trust any high schooler with a $3k piccolo in the bleachers. $100 go nuts, not the end of the music department if that one's dropped. Pep band isn't exactly instrument friendly, and getting a decent horn for an amazing price is a great way to introduce players.

Such pretty woman. You're as the sunlight on the sea
I bought 81 just now!!!!! Love the sound👍👍
I work at a music store (Music & Arts), and we recommend to NEVER buy off amazon because if they get broken (things get broken a lot more as a beginner) the shop has a really hard time finding the parts to fix it and sometimes they can’t even fix at all.
So I would not recommend that for a beginner, but for someone just wanting to play around on it. But even then, you would have to buy a new one every time it breaks.
Huge difference in sound. Pretty interesting.
The $99 is a luttle muted amd it has this wispy sound and its less resonance. Yours is a lot better sounding
Why am I watching this completely, I don’t even know how to play a flute, or listen to any flute exerts...
I still wasn’t disappointed
Happy to hear! Thanks for watching and all the best to you!
OMG I rlly love the tone of the 3000 dollar piccolo, it sounds so beautiful.
My proud little heart can’t accept the fact that I don’t really hear a difference
Vincent Tseng theres more of a hissing airy sound in the $99 one
The lowest and highest notes were definitely clearer/sharper on the expensive piccolo. The highest notes on the cheaper piccolo had something like a high pitched car horn sound in them somewhere. It’s odd but I could definitely hear a horn sound.
the $99 would definitely be one for beginners/marching band but for amazon it still sounds decent
So sound amazing on both of them!! I'm a huge fan
Aw thanks! Im also a fan of Huskies! Thanks for watching!
Yamaha is the way to go!
I do like mine, but this other piccolo was beyond surprising.
I love these flute comparisons so much lol I get to start picallo in september
I used to be first chair flute over 20 years ago. I can still play and produce good sound by memory but can't read music anymore or know what notes I'm playing. I still have my flute. I need to get back into this.
Your piccolo sounds much better
For 30 times the price you would expect it to. Does it sound 30 times better though?
Just better not much better. Instrument by itself has lame sound so who cares.
Agree! Btw it's just "better" not "more better", there is no comparative such as "more better"
Rogin in the musician world it’s called a piccolo and why are you commenting on something that was over a year ago (Edit: I’m also Italian and mexican)
Could you do a “can a $65 purple amazon flute beat my professional flute?”
My answer is obviously no, but it was actually not bad!! The intonation was quite good
will certainly try
Haha katieflute?
I thought so too.
that $3000 has a much more refined tone to it, but to most starting out the cheaper one is great to start
Thanks for this comparison! My daughter is fascinated by the piccolo and I got this for her 11th birthday yesterday. She loves it and started playing "Jingle Bells" and creating her own tunes. For some reason, she prefers it to the flute primarily because of the size and sound. It does have a nice tone. But my understanding is both should be practiced together, correct? Would love to see more videos on piccolo for beginners. There doesn't seem to be much material/tutorials out there on piccolos.
I agree! I'm very small and flute is just awkward for me so I'm starting with piccolo and there isn't much to go on. I did get some books from Amazon so I'm starting there.
Most folks start on flute and only play piccolo part time in concert band and full time in marching band. Piccolo is harder to play. It plays an octave higher and requires strong breath support and better lip control.
There is something to be said about skill, practice, and talent. You can make any instrument sound beautiful if you have what it takes, but the most expensive instruments cannot make you sound beautiful if you don't have what it takes. You made the cheap flute sound beautiful.
thanks!
I love the piece she played so much!
Sounds good for the price. I,too, was impressed when you hit the high end.
I really like your personality. Made me watch the video even though I listen to hip-hop and all that. And yes can hear a difference like it sounds 20% better but it’s a shame that it has to cost 30x more and is not 30x better. Was expecting a wow moment haha. Continue doing these videos its very relaxing and nice to watch you
Thanks Julien! Happy you liked the video!
I can ever ear the differences between expensive and cheap instruments, saxophones sound the same to me, microphones differences are very minute. But this one somehow was night and day to me.
As you said the Eastar leaks quite a bit so you can clearly ear more air, but yours although elite level isn't impermeable to this issue as well for what I noticed.
Thanks for the video.
Both sound good because of the musician behind them, but the note rolls sound smoother and less harsh and the sustained notes sound less piercing on the $3000 piccolo.
Great video! I would love to try one just for fun but my fingers are too big to fit onto a piccolo.
I bought myself one of these piccolos to learn how to play because I wanted to see if I like the instrument and so far it’s going very well
Hi love your videos. I also play flute, going into highschool. I still have a long way to go to get as good as you😀😀
I like the cheap one because I play all saxophones clarinets and flute but starting to get into piccolo
I'm just picking up the flute and I've been playing the trombone for 4 years so learning a new clef and fingerings is hard but I LOVE THE FLUTTEEEEE
The more expensive one sounds more HQ/HD in comparison, but the most important thing is the skill you give it
Was very good the explanation you told us.
Glad I could help!
The tone clarity is much better on yours, of course. The amount of force required to get a good tone is a lot less on your pro model. It rang in my ears more and it was a lot less wispy-windy sounding. A cheaper model is best, like you said, for marching bands and for schools who need piccolos but are on a tight budget. Good video!
love your edits
Today I learned that there was a Flute Channel on YT. Amazing
The 3000$ piccolo sounds 'Broken in' - And the 99$ piccolo sounds 'to be broken in and in need of regulation' - Would love for you to revisit this after breaking it in for a while. One thing I will say is that there is a unique dark, yet very warm tone palette you can achieve with a wooden piccolo that you simply cant come close to on a metal piccolo.
I've been playing the flute for a few years now. I'm thinking about getting a piccolo. What do you think I should get? Do you think I should get that one?
You might want to rent one from a music store for a month or two before commiting to buy one. Learning to play piccolo on a really cheap, bad instrument would be really hard, and most music stores have decent or good piccolos for $15-$30 a month. Some people domt end up liking piccolo at all, so that would be my recommendation. If you do enjoy it, then you can buy a decent one.
I listened to both. Yours sounded warmer, mellow and clean and haunting in a nice way. I think if a less advanced student played the cheaper one it would not have sounded as good as when you played. You have brilliant technique so anything you played would sound golden. I enjoyed this video. This video just popped up on my screen.
So happy you enjoyed it Juliet! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this comparison. It is very helpful! :)
Glad it was helpful!
I could actually hear the difference this time. The cheap piccolo was much harsher and not at smooth. My first major purchase after I landed a job after college was a gemeinhardt grenadilla piccolo. Love that piccolo. Still have it and play it even 23 years later. 😊
Those piccolos are amazing! I know a few people with one and they just last and last! Thanks for watching Anna!

The Lady who play must be very talented because honestly both Piccolo sound good to me.I really dont see the point of spending 3000$ unless you are a professional getting paid to play.A 100$ Piccolo will do the trick for most amateur player in my opinion.

I didn’t see the title and I thought it was $99 vs $3 flute and I was like “is 99$ your max budget? Is the channel going through tough times?l”
Nah all good here!
Would you try a ocarina Alto C to make a comparaison video ?
My sister has a pet bird that I’ve been pet-sitting and has inspired me to want to learn either flute or piccolo so I can play music with them. I can whistle well but it would be more fun to actually play an instrument lol. I used to play saxophone (alto and tenor) in high school and was in my high schools marching and concert band. I really enjoyed it then but haven’t picked up an instrument since. That was like 6 years ago so I’m now back at beginner level. I had been wanting to pick up trumpet but now I’m leaning more towards piccolo thanks to said bird. I was already looking at them on Amazon and this was one that I had saved to my list! Thank you for the beautiful demonstration ❤ I feel a little bit more confident to try it now!
Spot on intonation and overtones in the expensive one.

What a fun video! I think I’d buy the $99 to try it out. I’ve never played piccolo though; would this be a good first one to learn with?
For the price, I think so. That way if you're not over the moon about piccolo it's not that much out of your budget. But it's still low enough that If you ever want to upgrade to a forever piccolo it doesn't make a dent either.

I was very interested in two musical instruments growing up, the violin and the piccolo. My dad wanted us to get into music but he basically said, anything but those until you move out. You see...my dad has abnormally good hearing, the high notes of those instruments hurt his head.
I sensed a much fuller, and more beautiful tone in the lower notes on the wooden instrument.
I played the flute and i really enjoyed it and i was the best in my class till my finger started to do stuff where my nerves got crazy and started to pop out so i was forced to quit band :,( and i never applied to being a flute player and yet I seemed to enjoy it and also being the ONLY guys in any concert makes me feel proud 😎😎
I play in middle school band and I have wanted to play piccolo for as long as I’ve been playing flute. My teacher granted me the wish of trying hers for the class period and I did great. I believe it was the pearl brand. She said I did better when she started lol. She recommended that if I were to get one, I should get a cheap one off of Amazon as I did with my flute for the time being and once I get to high school or after that, I should look into more expensive ones. Earlier today my mom bought this exact piccolo for me and it is funny I should stumble across this video.
