Lol yes. You're too Busy practising to have a regular childhood but that's the price you pay.
You’re going to laugh-I actually have this flute in blue/black. After I had right thumb surgery I couldn’t play/hold my other flute and my doctor recommended this to get back into playing while recovering from hand/wrist surgery. I felt like a child with this, but my hand therapist agreed it was better than not being able to play at all. It’s super light and I played with a cast for several weeks on this. Didn’t bother the stitches either. Definitely helped me take my mind of the reality of recovery. Great video!
It's a great ultra light flute indeed!
I've always kind of wanted a flute, and this doesn't seem like too bad of an option, particularly for the price tag. Would be fun to play around with while my violin gives me forlorn looks.
I immediately recognized the "tougher" one as one of the Telemann Fantasies...can't recall which one offhand.
I think it’s A minor
I actually stumbled upon this product online and i was so excited to find this video! I might get it😎

Me when she played Paganini on the plastic flute: WOW, such talent!
Thanks Angela! It was super fun playing on this flute!
Hey, idea. If you put a plastic hose on the end of the mouthpiece adapter, you could theoretically play the flute holding it like a clarinet or any other position you like.
Why though? Meh, cuz you can.
There are mouthpieces that make it possible to play like a clarinet. I forget what they are called but a quick google search would remedy that.
omg, i never even knew there was a flute like that

Hello Amelie do you have a certain time that you were considering doing a FCNY review on Wooden flutes/headjoints. I'd love to hear how they compare to the way your silver Flute sounds?
We have, but haven't gotten around to it. Hopefully in November will have a chance to do it.
@@flutechannel Hey my professor sent out a studio message about a Flute day Festival happening near me in Savannah, Georgia on November 23rd!! This will be my first ever Flute Convention that I will be going to, if you happen to be able to review any Wooden flutes in a video by then,
Could you recommend a few of the ones that you think will be interesting for me to look for and try out at the convention??
You actually played Paganini at the end 😃. I still prefer the violin.
Yes, per your test, the flute sounds fine for an entry level instrument. But Bach sounds much better on your professional instrument.. definitely. The price really determines the quality of an instrument, whether is a watch, a writing instrument like Montlanc or a musical instrument like your flute. Awesome content. I found your channel by mistake while listening Brandenburg concerto and Jean-Pierre Rampal playing Bach Sonata #1 . Really liked your content . Cheers from Houston, Texas .

The plastic one honestly sounded better than I thought it would sound
The plastic flute has surprisingly nice tone quality, but I don’t love the plastic-y buzz in the lower register. I also don’t like the second mouthpiece, sounds too much like a whistle, not a flute. Overall, I think it would be a great flute for outside gigs or for when your primary flute is in the shop.
Yup I think so too! Next is to try it in a concert hall!
I’m just gonna drop this here... I played one of these not too long ago. While I was definitely surprised that certain aspects were better than I was expecting... I would probably NEVER perform on one. The harmonic series just doesn’t come through on it. :(
Or for students to take home if a school doesn't allow them to take home a school owned instrument

Interestingly enough, I think that a penny whistle sounds even more distinct than a flute, lol.

I love these new (relatively) inexpensive instruments that people are inventing and manufacturing. A lot of people simply do not realize that for a lot of people, even $180 for a plastic flute involves a huge sacrifice. These instruments are often the only way that a poor or working-class child can be given a chance to learn instrumental music, including classical. And they often don't sound bad; anyone who claims "golden ears," I'd love to do a double-blind test on them. The only thing I've ever been able to hear easily is conical versus cylindrical bore and light woods versus very dense hardwoods or other materials (pearwood versus mopane/ABW/delrin).
Totally! The innovation is amazing! We actually have people who've tried the golden ear test and will have a video out soon, the results are astounding!
@@flutechannel I'm very pumped for the results!!
So true. I'm on $5 an hour an haven't played my flute (gift) in years as I was homeless at one point and still can't afford $200 to service the thing, though I think you can get a Jupiter flute or something else silver plated for under $100.
Not always an option but in many cases schools will provide instruments either free (with sign out) or low cost rentals either from the school or a shop. Granted it was some years ago late 80's or early 90's, had an inexpensive rental clarinet. A little dinged up but it was wood rather than plastic. Maybe a better alternative to putting out even 180-200 on a beginner instrument especially if you don't even know if the kid will stick with it.
It is also great for people who suffer metal (Ni, Ag) allergy and can't afford a gold liplate. Like myself who had to give up flute playing because of that :((
Does flute playin in the shower work the same way as singing in the shower?

It didn't sound good until you played in the shower. Has no real resonance. The sound dies immediately.
The professional flute is 10,000x better.
But for a student it's a good deal
trevorpinnocky but a flute isn’t a resonant instrument. No matter how hard I flick mine with my finger, it has no sustain. Lol. I think the chamber of air is what resonates and not the flute itself. This is why the material doesn’t impact the sound like shape / bore / embouchure cut.
trevorpinnocky I think that’s what they call hearing with your eyes-like saying yellow gold sounds warmer.
@@gwgtaylor material does have impact to the sound colour, but as you said not as much as embouchure cut and obviously the flutist him/herself. Metal flutes generally would sound quite similar one to another, but for example wooden flute tone colour is quite different.

I'm currently teaching myself woodwinds as a form of music therapy. I remembered how much joy I got out of playing the recorder as a child, and thought I might pick it up again after a traumatic event. Silver flute +1
Silver flute
Silver of course. But im curious if the type of silver used in a flute affects the sound (i.e. sterling silver 92.5, vs other silver types with more or less silver content)
The Flute Channel silver flute
Undoubtedly, the silver flute! But as you pointed out, for a early learner who might need something a bit sturdier, or for those playing in potentially humid/wet conditions, the Nuvo is quite passable. But gosh, the width! It would be like doubling on my alto, I'd think, but much lighter!
Musical instruments you can bring to the beach:
In the 90's: ukulele, bamboo flute, nylon strings guitar and marimba. Everything else is prone to rust.
In 2019: all the above, plus flute (this one), saxophone(Jsax) and Clarinet (clarineo) NUVO could change the culture of seaside music forever!
Who’s dragging a huge marimba on the beach 😂😂
@@davids.pumpkins2215 They don't have to... Marimbas can be assembled on site, dismantled and assembled again if they need to use it somewhere else. If they were low on budget, they could make one from bamboo and just burn them when they're finished.
My point is, those musical instruments are what shaped the whole music genre of the people who lived by the sea.
Now that there are plastic instruments, they can make more elaborate tunes than there was before.

Bring the keyboard
@@sigure.inspiration It's the 90's. Except the Yamaha SHS series, all the keyboards are still bulky and they cost even more than a marimba. But today portable keyboards are very common, so it would make sense.

I think it sounds more like a wooden flute. It doesn't "ring" like a metal one, not surprisingly. The biggest difference in tone seems to be at the very top end. The Nuvo sounds airier.
Dampens sound more, metal and glass or possibly harder plastic, would probably produce more "metalic" sound since it would be more of a hard stop for air. In fact flute made of sth with infinite density, completely without weight would sound most like it should but then it would be sine generator. Also listening to this online has no sense as you each have different speakers in laptops. Some can't reflect all audible range quite as good as some others. In fact most complaints are about characteristics of your own speakers.

I bought the metallic blue version for myself three months ago as a birthday present. I had a metal student flute that I bought years ago to try to learn, but I put it down for a while and when I picked it back up it was in such poor condition that it was unplayable. The Nuvo flute was an affordable option for me, and while I was a bit skeptical at first, for a casual self-taught adult learner like me who is just a hobbyist, it has been perfect. I don't care about the sound quality because I'm just playing for myself! Three months in and I've already far surpassed where I ever got with my metal flute. I figure that once I outgrow it, I will spring for an inexpensive silver student model, but this is great for me for now. Also love the potential for children or for like high school marching bands that often play outside. The silicone padding and the sizing that is kind for beginners is also a great boon - I'm not in the greatest shape of my life and I am a small gal with short arms, so trying to hold up a metal flute long enough to practice well is a little tougher for me. Okay, huge paragraph over, suffice to say I'm happy to see the Nuvo flute getting more exposure lately because I really love the idea behind it :)
Super glad it worked out anna!

Moody KitKat omgggg welcome to the band world!!! I love the flute good luck!
I'm an Organist from Germany and i would say, that i've a good ear to hear the difference. The cheaper flute is more 'spitting', what is needable for baroque music. Your expensive flute is more soft and does not have this range of 'overtones', which allows to play more romantic pieces. That's what i mean. Maybe my english is not that good to explain it...
I was expecting it to be more of a muted sound than it was (as opposed to a bright sound from a metal flute). It sounded surprisingly good, but more importantly, I didn’t hear any leakage, and it seemed to have great ease of play.
The piece that you played is called telemann fantasía no.2
I'm a beginner and got this flute for Christmas. This barely relates to the video because it is with her accent, but I could tell she was French, checked the channel about section “lessons offered in French and English” but her accent, certain phrases, and pronunciations clues me into something else, a French Canadian accent, so I checked some of the social media links, sure enough the twitter location states Canada. The easiest French Canadian identifier is the “you know”. I also don’t want to sound rude to anybody from Quebec, but comparing Quebec french accents when speaking English to France French accents when speaking English, the Quebec accent sounds a little more “hill billy” if that makes sense. I like the difference between a French Canadian accent and a French accent from France, it’s neat to hear!

These plastic instruments have one great advantage: You can leave them somewhere in your room, on a chair, on the bed and occasionally grab them to play a few notes.
You don't have to be afraid that an expensive instrument might be damaged. In this way I live with several plastic recorders.
This way you practise a lot more as if you would do, being forced to unbox and assemble your instrument every time.
I have my flute from jr high for this purpose, i keep it assembled and laying around all day for incase I want to play. I tried to sell it once, but the pawn shop would only give me something like 30cad for it.
It is no so much the instrument but the artist playing it which is all the difference. Ego and selfish pride is the reason for purchasing the more expensive instruments.
Wow this makes me want a plastic flute.... and I don’t play flute 🤣 Well not in the past 15 years anyhow
Watching you play the flute in the shower was fun! Thanks for the information.
