WoW this gave me chills. The sail boat project in the beginning of the video looks almost exactly like the boat we built in the mid 80, We launched it in Charleston SC 1987/88 her name was Pleiades.
Another great step you guys. I don't know why it was so satisfying to see the bottom of the boat being cleaned. You guys are such an inspiration...I've finished the ASA 101 thru ASA 104 certifications and started the downsizing in preparation for selling my house...soon no couch!
So happy for you both back on the move with your new wind steering! Enjoying your vids immensely, I always take the time to watch a few when we're in Internet range! Fair winds, Pascale
Another excellent video! Loved seeing all that hard growth come off the bottom of Uma, that's a serious scraping tool you've got there! Glad the wind vane worked so well! Fantastic music, visuals loved the drone shot and editing! Thanks again for sharing the steps of your adventure with us!
Excellent video...as usual...10:48 was nice, Uma's classic lines showing....love those overhangs. Also enjoyed the Cape Horn WIndvane follow-up. Looking forward to re-gen stats. Why isn't Seachange making videos anymore?...totally enjoyed their channel.
You guys are awesome.love the shots of the lighthouse beautiful views great job.thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I’ll be awaiting your next video as always..
You put a smile on my face every time you post video, you two :) I relay hope that I will meet you one day and give you both a big hug :) Just keep on doing what you do the best....ana that is living in freedom.Something that majority of us is just dreaming of for the most of our lives .
I have been waiting for your review of your DIY copper paint ! Even if it is not perfect, easier clean is a BIG WIN ! I hope you put some grease/anti seize on that shaft before you banged the wheel on. It not, you won't get it off without a puller next time.
Great videography, along with a good variety of context. Loved it, made me want to be there, oh but I was via your video. Thanks, keep sharing because your videos have great clarity and color along with a storyline that makes them unique.
I love Dan's "I can fix it" attitude - just like Spicoli after he wrecks Jefferson's Camaro in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Except, you know, less stoned.
That Halberg Rassey wreck was fresh when we were there in 2008. We had plans to nab all of the hatches, but a wind reversal from a hurricane forced us to leave the island empty handed early the next morning. Oh well. One of our friends is now sailing around with the mast off of it.
When the drill came out, I thought the punch line was going to be "just a few more fixes and I'll have it sailing again". The truth was just as humourous.
it is so good to see that the Sea Change crew are still on the water. Do you know if they will still be doing RUclips vids? I am hoping for more from them :) Cant count the number of times that I have re-watched the ones they have made.
Kika... there's a difference between doing something FOR him and doing something TO him! Lol! Oh, and 6:40 to 6:54... amazing footage guys! If you ever develop a new intro, or a channel trailer, remember that 14 second clip. I thought it was positively exhilarating!
"Monk", has dedicated his existence to keeping you both on course. I had to tell you because of his vow of silence. May "Squeaky" rest in pieces, forever.
Be care of metal scrapers, nicks in the blade can cut through your bottom anti fowling, and scar the fiberglass, leading to osmosis. Try the ceramic ones instead. Their just as sharp, and hold up very well to the elements, and don't produce sharp points that scar the anti fowl.
I don't know if you were following, however, the bottom coating is copper powder embedded in epoxy resin, not the usual anti-foul paint. As such they found that to remain effective it needs to be sanded back occasionally to expose fresh copper.
Wishing you both a Very Happy New Year…..Looking forward to more awesome adventures in 2018…..Keep up the great work….Stay Happy and Healthy..From a retired sailor.
Dan, very clever repair of the steering wheel hub....I get the feeling that you could have gotten a degree from an engineering school as easily as architecture. Great video...Ken in St. Pete
Really love watching you freedive! YOu definitely got your technique down. Also impressed with your copper coat. I may do that for mine! Certainly more environmentally friendly
Sea Change! Yes. They are still around. Yes we love the video Kika and Dan. But we have been looking for the Sea Change guys for months. So glad they are still out sailing. Any info on them or a web page they may have?
I think what happened with your helm was the center hub wasn't heated to prevent differential heating when welding which caused it to warp. Something to think about if it starts to wobble again.
Once again, clean the bottom on a changing tide, or other current event (EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE BOAT) and scrap it stern to bow so the detritus drifts away from you, rather than moving into / along with the debris cloud. Miami sailor knowledge.
Is there a video on how you set the course with that wind pilot (I have seen the install etc. But there you just said pull rope and it works, but how do you say it what angle to the wind is preferred?)
Awesome video! So cool that you met up with the crew from SeaChange! I didn't know if they were still sailing because they haven't released videos in quite some time.
Yeah it was pretty cool to see them, although very briefly.... really missed their vlog. Seriously one of the best ever imo. Thought they went native or something.... I guess when it comes to cruising its enjoy it or labor to make videos...
What’s going on with Sea Change now? We have been looking for them for months. Do they have a New web page? Are they staying in the area or moving on? Any info please.
When you installed the windvane you drilled through the transom. I recall you added fiberglass on the inside. In a shot in this video I was reminded that you didn't "appear" to do any sealant on the exterior. Is that true? Any concern that water will start to saturate the transom infiltrating from the exterior?
Good point... But at the same time I didn't see any video of the pain he experienced when the kidney stones finally passed! Just because we didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen!
Rather late , but reading this now . Although fiberglass with polyester resin will collect water over time , epoxy resin makes a really watertight laminate . So , no worries .
Welding Stainless Steel shrinks the metal more than most others. The amount of shrinkage is huge and should be taken into account when making tubular frames.
Wished I had known of you guys at the time I live in bquilla, 1hr from ctg, where I do work also. Let me know if you are back. I am also from San andres island the island is my hometowns
Nobody took the teak? You could make fine deck chairs, or wall art, or practice swords, or kindling for a beach fire. Teak is good stuff, especially weathered like it was.
There but for the grace of God go I. It was so sad seeing someone's dreams on the rocks like that. I have a deep skeg racing keel on my yacht and usually find myself cleaning the hull oceanside like you did here but with lines beamwise around the hull so I can keep pressure towards the hull. But I generally only need a standard kitchen broom.
Good videos guys! wrt the copper antifouling you put on your hull, can you tell us a bit more... for example, did you put this on you propellor as well? Thx!
Ita a wonder the boat even moved , copper bottom save you anything We found we cleaned more and painted less and stuff just stuck to it no good for off shore
Dan and Kika made a decision; they would rather sail than make non essential upgrades. We all live a finite number of days and only a small fraction of them occur during our youth. Keep in mind that if a man's person's life is 90 years (not likely), then he is middle aged by age 30. 0 to 30 is youth and 60 to 90 is old age, so 30 to 60 is middle aged.
Hey guys! Sorry, this may have been covered in the thread, but....would you recommend your approach of epoxy with copper powder additive as an alternative to CopperCote? I've read mixed reviews on CopperCote, esp. in view of price per effectiveness. Would you repeat your method? What was the ratio/mix of copper powder to epoxy?
I love your friend's idea of making use of those screws, reuse all the way. Give some of that boat a second life 💚
WoW this gave me chills. The sail boat project in the beginning of the video looks almost exactly like the boat we built in the mid 80, We launched it in Charleston SC 1987/88 her name was Pleiades.
I really enjoy your sailing, actual sailing videos!
Another great step you guys. I don't know why it was so satisfying to see the bottom of the boat being cleaned. You guys are such an inspiration...I've finished the ASA 101 thru ASA 104 certifications and started the downsizing in preparation for selling my house...soon no couch!
That's so awesome! You're out there as I'm typing this now! Many blessings and have all the fun in the world!
What is the channel Name.?? 🤷🏻♂️
So happy for you both back on the move with your new wind steering! Enjoying your vids immensely, I always take the time to watch a few when we're in Internet range! Fair winds, Pascale
Fantastic life style ! Tropical beaches , blue water ,casual boat upgrades, good food and Fantastic friends .
Thanks for sharing 👍 🇨🇦

Dan and Kika what a team you are!
And with a little help from your friends your epic! 😁
⛵⚓⛵ #LoveSailingUma
Man, I love cleaning the hull. It's like painting a wall; it's cathartic.
Do you get bitten by those little amphipods that were attacking Dan in one video?
I did a copper bottom too, vinyl ester resin/copper powder. Good after ten years, scraping mine now but in cold water.
my favorite sailing vlog along with the old sea dog... real people
this is great ... yore mechanical skills never cease to amaze me ... plus you two are such a cute couple
Excellent video...as usual...10:48 was nice, Uma's classic lines showing....love those overhangs. Also enjoyed the Cape Horn WIndvane follow-up. Looking forward to re-gen stats. Why isn't Seachange making videos anymore?...totally enjoyed their channel.

Another excellent video, thanks for sharing your adventure and allowing us to come along via your videos.
Finally Cool Change crew showed up (a bit changed). They have the most beautiful sailing videos o RUclips. I recommend them to everyone
They really are the best. Episode 3 is my favorite!
Man that was a fast 15 minutes! I hope you both are safe, prosperous and happy throughout 2018!!
Great Video and it was nice to see that " Sea Change" is Safe an Sound.
Uma will move through the water like glass now! As so that clean save might get you another knot or two.....LOL
I have been waiting for your review of your DIY copper paint ! Even if it is not perfect, easier clean is a BIG WIN !

Sweetie, as I recall you two took on a "project" boat. And you two rose to the challenge
It’s funny that you say the boat is a big project! Isn’t Uma a big, beautiful, wonderful project as well?
this was one of my favorite ep (and not just because the boat sailing next to you is my Name🥰)
I love Dan's "I can fix it" attitude - just like Spicoli after he wrecks Jefferson's Camaro in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Except, you know, less stoned.
Glad to see you out sailing on your boat again
Thanks for another awesome episode! Wishing you a happy 2018 full of new adventures with your precious Uma.
Good job on the hull, we know it's hard work. You friend with the drill,...I love it. Safe Travels.
That Halberg Rassey wreck was fresh when we were there in 2008. We had plans to nab all of the hatches, but a wind reversal from a hurricane forced us to leave the island empty handed early the next morning. Oh well. One of our friends is now sailing around with the mast off of it.
Scavengers!!!
your stuff just gets better and better.
thnx a heap for all the entertainment you provide.
dan...i really hope you're not a vancouver canucks fan. :)
When the drill came out, I thought the punch line was going to be "just a few more fixes and I'll have it sailing again". The truth was just as humourous.

Folkboat11 So do I ! "...gentlemen never sail the weather..."
Good job cleaning the hull! Good info, thank you!
Kika... there's a difference between doing something FOR him and doing something TO him! Lol!
Oh, and 6:40 to 6:54... amazing footage guys! If you ever develop a new intro, or a channel trailer, remember that 14 second clip. I thought it was positively exhilarating!
that is some great drone footage
"Monk", has dedicated his existence to keeping you both on course. I had to tell you because of his vow of silence. May "Squeaky" rest in pieces, forever.
Look at y'all killing it!! Nice job

easiest way to put on a swim cap is to turn it inside out, fill it with water, and have someone drop it on your head. it works and is fun too :P
Loving the new drone footage.
Wishing you both a Very Happy New Year…..Looking forward to more awesome adventures in 2018…..Keep up the great work….Stay Happy and Healthy..From a retired sailor.
Waterworld reference! I knew I wasn't the only one!
awesome video, i always enjoy them being a medic and on duty i don't always get to travel so i travel with you
Good video I would of been tempted to remove some of the teak deck would look lovely in your cockpit
Hi, you are in our top 5 sailing channel! Great! :-)
Those drone shots are so cool!
Thanks for updating on your copper bottom looks good👌
Hey! Tell the Sea Change guys to make more videos. Chop chop!
Dan, very clever repair of the steering wheel hub....I get the feeling that you could have gotten a degree from an engineering school as easily as architecture. Great video...Ken in St. Pete
He is better than those degrees
When I would have said, “ I can’t fix this, and need to hire someone”. Dan just solves it. Great!
That mohawk is beast like Travis bickles "you talking to me? are you talking to me? " - taxi driver
Get an M65 field jacket to complete the look ;)
Thats it. Ima watch all these vids
Dan, I really admire your ability to fix and make any damn thing you want to. It is such an admirable quality in a man. More of us should have it.
Great video thank you you guys are awesome I really enjoy this channel been watching for a few months
Really love watching you freedive! YOu definitely got your technique down. Also impressed with your copper coat. I may do that for mine! Certainly more environmentally friendly

been watching from day one just did the youtube thing and subscribed ...live your dreams awesome
Yeah they made some really cool videos. Some of the best. Artsy kinda.
hope you get to meet them one day they are really cool guys
SeaChange if you read this, please make more videos! The best editing i've seen on sailing channels!
Yeah it was pretty cool to see them, although very briefly.... really missed their vlog. Seriously one of the best ever imo. Thought they went native or something.... I guess when it comes to cruising its enjoy it or labor to make videos...

Dude is in everyones vids :P And the best supporting actor goes to.... Alceno!
Great video as usual. Nice to see the wind vane in operation. When was the last time you cleaned the bottom prior to the time in this video?
Welding Stainless Steel shrinks the metal more than most others. The amount of shrinkage is huge and should be taken into account when making tubular frames.
Sweet great video as always
Wow it's been 2 years!!........Are you sure? Time is flying by.
Another great video have a good new year be safe.
Holy cow your loaded on your bottom.. But yea I see how EZ it is to come off nice job guys.
yaa lazy lol
+Chris Parlow Not so EZ. We just saw a few seconds of the job.
nice :)
take care guys
love from France
Wished I had known of you guys at the time I live in bquilla, 1hr from ctg, where I do work also. Let me know if you are back. I am also from San andres island the island is my hometowns
I have been wondering about using aluminum paint or maybe add some copper powder to it for bottom paint.
Nobody took the teak? You could make fine deck chairs, or wall art, or practice swords, or kindling for a beach fire. Teak is good stuff, especially weathered like it was.
I’m surprised you’re not taking more off the beached boat all that wood would come in handy, might as well use it.
Great Video! Cheers!
Thanks again
There but for the grace of God go I.
It was so sad seeing someone's dreams on the rocks like that.
I have a deep skeg racing keel on my yacht and usually find myself cleaning the hull oceanside like you did here but with lines beamwise around the hull so I can keep pressure towards the hull. But I generally only need a standard kitchen broom.
2:53 this is very pretty; like an olympic swimmer. 11:22 this feels so spacious!
Good videos guys! wrt the copper antifouling you put on your hull, can you tell us a bit more... for example, did you put this on you propellor as well? Thx!
great video! awesome!
How did you two meet? That’s a story I’d love to hear. Exciting or not aha.
Go back and watch their first videos, and you'll find out.
Barncles ! wow..thats lot mate ~
Cool video!
big projects are just a long line of small projects :)
I'd been wondering what happened to the Cool Change boys. Looks like they headed back west.
How's the motor performing with the new controller guys?
Ita a wonder the boat even moved , copper bottom save you anything We found we cleaned more and painted less and stuff just stuck to it no good for off shore
How could you resist salvageing ALL THAT TEAK and giving Uma a nice Teak Deck? Ah Well, F.E.F.S.
I miss Squeaky! But the Cape Horn will do a much better job. Amazing how much sea crud grew on the hull in a short period of time.
Una que se siente ser personaje de descendientes eeeee🙌
I’ve been binge watching #102 and have been meaning to ask you both, how deep do you “free dive” ?
Sounds like a good vane
And your buying Canadian
15:15 mad max uma
hey guys awesome video :-)
Thanks Alsino !!!! and thanks again for the epic drone shots !
Put a nice coat of dielectric grease on those dissimilar metals! Wouldn't want to have that wheel stuck to that shaft after a week or three.
How long has it been between bottom scrubs guys?
a 5 lb sledge would persuade that helm back on...LOL
The cost of screws alone! May as well take what has been left to rot!
