RUclips kept recommending your channel for quiet some time. But I thought just another boring couple celebrating themselves spending their parents money. After having watched three episodes now. I must confess: I could not have been more wrong. Great channel great couple!! Love what you are doing. Keep on doing it! Amazing how you transformed this old vessel into a custom made home. We recently purchased a 42 yr old trailer sailor and I am renovating it, but of course will never reach your level of perfection. But still you are very inspiring to me. Thanks a lot! Cheers from Germany and all the best to you in all the endeavors to come.
I was so scared that you were swapping boats!!! Uma's the star, center stage, put her on a pedestal, show her off and treat her right! Sorry, Dan I hope I did not bruise your ego. I am glad your sticking with Uma. Thanks for taking us along your travels.
From the looks of the dodger and stackpack Mike and Wendy are both that rare combination of superb artist and craftspeople. Really beautiful workmanship.
I love how you started with one boat and over the years you have converted UMA into the beauty you have now. Tastefully and cleverly redesigned and refitted to fit your style. Your videos are really good. Keep it up!
TBH, I think I get more satisfaction out of seeing the progression of the boat than I do following your adventures. Don't get me wrong, I love following the travels and seeing your enthusiasm for new experiences. It's just that seeing an old junker of a boat coming into its own through your vision is truly inspiring. Uma has become its own work of art that far surpasses anything the shipyard envisioned. Beautiful. P.S. - Best wishes growing back those toenails. ❤️😆
I love how Uma has gone from the shabbiest boat in the boat yard to the sleekest, sexiest being in the water, and on a reletively low (for a boat, that is) budget. Thanks so for sharing your journey.
Yeah I imagine they will be able to recoup a significant amount of the refit cost if they ever decide to sell it & buy a bigger boat (say if a family becomes a new 'project'). Think how cool it would be to own a boat which has every previous system design and installation documented on RUclips? The Project Atticus people are selling their first boat, and while it isn't the technological marvel that is Uma, it has a similar story (and is even older).
It has been soooo fun for all of us here on the Tube watching you make this boat into the coolest, quaintest little water home ever. Really fantastic job. I hope to get to see her in person at a meetup someday. Thanks for putting so much time and energy into capturing your travels. We all really appreciate it. Keep up the great work!
I'm happy for you guys getting your fixes and upgrades done to Uma. Also, I love these boat project videos. It really gives a clearer insight into what's involved in living on and sailing a boat.
Uma has become pretty dang spiffy in the course of the last 4 years. Your attention to details are amazing. The new dodger and stack pack turned out really good. Looking forward to watching your journey across the Atlantic. Fair winds!
This is so exciting. We are a family of 5 from Texas and we are in the process of buying our first sailboat to live on.... a hunter .... We are so excited and love watching your channel. We love this boating community.
The two of you are awesome. I really enjoy you videos, the places you go, the things you do and see and they way the two of you interact with each other. I love being around positive people who enjoy what they do, even if being around means watching you over the internet.
Uma looks spectacular! You really are highlighting the Art of the Possible when it comes to classic plastic. Wendy's stack pack was beautifully done. Hopefully she showed you her own beautiful boat!
You guys have been working together for a longtime now. Your both in tune with each other. That's why your able to finish your projects so well. Your doing great work! Can't wait until you guys hit the water and start your adventure.
This boat looks so luxurious and it’s so small!! The bathroom really sold it for me. Can’t believe the design and innovation with the button on the floor and what you did with this tiny space. I saw a lot of tiny home builds but this is next level
Absolutely amazing the transformation of Uma. Thank you again for sharing your journey and showing us how its done. “Don’t buy a couch” words to live by. Cheers and fair winds.
The 2 of you are Amazing the way you work together. The quality of the work you do and have outsiders do is really great. I enjoy your videos very much. Congrats.
The boat looks beautiful. It's nice to see the personal craftsmanship go into updating the boat. I think most of us don't see much of that on other channels. I'm new to following you and am looking forward to going back and seeing how it all began.
I am so impressed by people that can make such perfectly crafted dodgers and biminis. On our last boat I could never get over how fantastically perfect the canvas work was. We had a full enclosure by the way - out on the open Atlantic it proved invaluable, our long crossing would not have been tolerable without it. I am pretty excited about the stack pack on our new boat. I am so done with wrestling a huge main into a nice flaked pile to get the cover onto. Kiwigrip: great product, and so fun to do.
Hi guys just want to let you know I have been following you for awhile now and I just think you are so much inspiration to others I see the love that you have for each other and your boat you really inspire me God bless you guys fromCliff from Australia
The ten minute mark... Your solution was so freaking clever! I respect the love and attention you've put into the Uma. Cheers from Texas, ma'am, sir, and good sailing.
Thanks Brent! It's one of the reasons it's taken us so long to complete all these projects. The planning and figuring out what we need though experience is 90% of the project.
Awesome job on Uma! I've binge watched your channel along with Project Atticus, Lady K, and others till up to date. You've all inspired me to begin designing and building a new sailboat to go cruising in, once again (I'm a retired naval architect & marine engineer, and used to have a wooden boat shop on Cape Cod). I've been landlocked in Downeast Maine for 15 years (even though I live along the "bold coast"). My soul needs a return to sea and you two have provided me with a "kick in the pants," so to speak. I've been documenting design considerations, parameters, and progress on my channel. I've recently encountered a few setbacks, but they will not keep me from getting back to sea (while I'm still physically able). Thanks for such an abundance of entertainment and inspiration! I've sailed in the Caribbean years ago, and have been to Puerto Rico, Trinidad/Tobago, Barbados, Curacao, and others, but never to Haiti, yet Kika now has me wanting to visit Haiti!
dont build - just grab a half decent something - SAGA 43 - or even a J39 - and just go - its out on the water meeting folks that makes the heart sing - i you want to build and fix - help someone with journey with your background you will be able to help many - but just go sailing
@@yachticus - Thanks for taking time to offer your suggestions. I actually did consider getting an old boat to fix up and sail, and looked at a few of them. Given limited financial resources (retired), but having quite a bit of left over inventory from my old wooden boat shop (lot of brand new sails, rigging components, diesel engine w/ marine trans, running rigging, epoxy fillers in bulk, hardware, etc etc - the list goes on), I determined (given my background and experience) I can actually design and build a sailboat that will meet my personal needs much faster and for less money than it would take to fix up an old hull. I have all the power tools, hand tools, and power equipment required, quite a bit of new and reclaimed wood, and have already drawn up a set of plans. My biggest expense is epoxy resin and hardener, plus more fiberglass cloth (have some but not nearly enough). All systems are go and I'm presently working on the building site and temporary shelter. Watching everyone out there cruising on RUclips helps keep me motivated each and every day! Love Uma!
Awesome transformation! Mike is one hell of a craftsman! Wendy is an amazing crafts woman as well! This final paint and nod skid is super awesome! The transformation is incredible! Great job guys! Cheers
You guys have literally put 10’s of thousands in improvements into Uma over the years in both your labor and products. Impressive! Your boat looks great!
There is 1 thing I would like to point out and thank you for, so many times on You Tube channels I come away with questions about things in the videos, you 2 take so much time to explain in detail all the things you are doing. This fact makes it so easy to understand what you are doing, thank you!
Looks really really fine. Nice work guys. The Pearson 36 has very pleasant lines and comes with that Pearson pedigree. You've invested your time and talent well in a vessel that's truly worth all that work. You've done yourselves & William Shaw proud. Wishing you many years of smooth sailing and endless miles under your keel.
I did have a chuckle at the toenails bit at the end and Uma is looking absolutely fantastic. You must be extremely proud of all of your accomplishments.
We love your "New Boat", and can't wait to see it under sail on a new adventure. Your work is complemented by the paint job, and color scheme, good choice! Safe travels.
I'm new on this Chanel and watch this Video as the first one from you. Reason why I subscribe is not the boat, is not the Caribbean sea. It is, because I love to see happy people. :-)
You have done an absolute fabulous job on this boat inside and out. Boat designers: take note of what is practical in actual usage versus "perceived" needs and amenities.
Good decision to have your dodger professionnaly done. This man has the right tools and did a fantastic job ! Well worth the extra 1k$ !! And it gave you plenty of time to do a perfect paint job. Congratulations to both of you !
It's great to see how much Uma has progressed over the years, I don't think I would have had the inspiration to perspiration to do such a fine job, well done you guys!!!!
Hi guys, I know this video has been here for a while and I've already viewed it but I really like this one and just had to watch it again. Again, thank you 4 sharing. Cheers, Jay
WOW!! She looks amazing! If I hadn't just binge-watched every video up to this one I would swear that a fairy grandmother showed up and waved a magic wand. You two have done so much hard work and created so many innovations the sailing world should be paying attention. Now I have an idea, don't know if its ever been tried and maybe was a failure, but I have the feeling if anyone could make it work it would be the two of you. After watching so many anchors being pulled up with the chains all full of dirt and mud and getting the deck all nasty I feel like there has to be a way to stop that problem. I have used boot scrapers many times when I lived in the snow and slushy weather, I'm sure you've seen them...just a platform with stiff brushes that you shove your boot into and it removes most of the crud. I would think the idea could be modified to allow the chain to run through such a "gadget" when hauling it back up, maybe even with a pressured water attachment to squirt the chain just as it's passing thru the track of brushes. It could even have a lever or some type of mechanism that increases or decreases the brush pressure as needed. So, what do the two of you think? Could it work? If so maybe it could even become something you could patent, just remember to name it after me...F'up Fairy! LOL
Yes, there are actually chain cleaners out there. But a deck wash hose (like we have) works just as well. You just spray the chain off before it comes on-board.
Uma looks absolutely fabulous. The transformation from day one to present is just awesome. The material color you chose for the dodger and stackpack is perfect. Should help keep the cockpit cooler then the darker color for sure. And making the protectors for the windows was an awesome idea. Y'all are just amazing! Best of luck always and safe sails.
This is only the third video of yours I have seen. You're editing and production are absolutely fantastic. Your use of time lapse, drones and music make a professional level show. I enjoyed all of the content. Enough said. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
Hi Guys, I have been following you for a while now. What you do is inspiring. It is amazing all the projects that you have accomplished in these years. Uma is a complete different boat , I still remember when you where preparing her for the first passage. Congratulations!
Wow, where has the time gone? I remember watching you guys when you didn't even own Uma yet. We need to figure out how to slow time down, together. I have learned so much from you two over the years. From the beginning to now Uma has transformed into a truly beautiful cruiser, well down, you two.
2020 hindsight: make sure to fresh water wash that glazing before you put the sun covers on it. Any salt residue on the plastic, will act like sandpaper as the covers and dodger move around at dock. She's so pretty!
What you two have achieved to date is so inspirational, you will clearly be a role model for sailors for decades to come. Truly, thank you for allowing us to follow and be a part of your journey. With what you've done with your lives & boat you epitomize the meaning of the words in a famous rock song " *Lifes a journey, Not a destination* "
Great work on the boat and a wonderful vlog showing all your progress. The cockpit covers has the look of a car windshield. The views look so bright and clear. 👏👏🤓
It is great to see young people with this kind of dedication, my compliments to your achievement. You deserve to be very proud. I wish you two the very best!
Such beautiful work, functional and infusing your ideas into the work, so satisfying I'm sure. Function making beauty and vice versa I'm thinking. Good stuff.
I'm from Puerto Rico, My First Video of you guys was Step 54. When I saw that I was like What? I need to watch these guys. I have seen you guys grow and happy to see you pushing forward like always. Keep up the great work. Always looking forward to seeing new videos.
HI GUYS, I’ve just recently subscribed having followed La Vaga, Zatara, and Delos in the past as well as you guys now. You are both very watchable, nice and genuine people and doing what I would do if I hadn’t the responsibilities of being a single dad and 48! Keep living the dream and enjoy life ! Will x
Just now 22 Sep 19 discovered your videos / story, now have to go back and start binge watching from # 1, have to say it's so good to see a young couple with your enthusiasm , attitudes, and great smiles !
This episode just popped up so even though it a little old just thought that I would mention (again) just what an incredible job that you guys have done. I have refit 3 cruising boats in my life and have helped others. But I have never seen a more beautiful and tasteful job done. You both have so much talent and ambition that you deserve all that you have gained from this. And absolutely right on with the dodger! A Bimini? Yes, but building a proper dodger is a science and an art that doesn’t develop quickly. And you got a good one! Smart move.
Nice job guys. She looks gorgeous! I love ALL that you've done for upgrades. Thank you for sharing your processes as well as the professionals and products you've utilized. Bravo! Can't wait till your next leg of your adventure with Uma!
RUclips kept recommending your channel for quiet some time. But I thought just another boring couple celebrating themselves spending their parents money. After having watched three episodes now. I must confess: I could not have been more wrong. Great channel great couple!!
Love what you are doing. Keep on doing it!

Ich kann dir nur zustimmen. Viel Erfolg mit deinem Projekt und nach dem Wassern immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel.
No you didn’t.
I was so scared that you were swapping boats!!! Uma's the star, center stage, put her on a pedestal, show her off and treat her right! Sorry, Dan I hope I did not bruise your ego. I am glad your sticking with Uma. Thanks for taking us along your travels.
UMA is soon happy now! You guys gave her an entirely new life. She'll keep you both happy and safe during your journeys.
From the looks of the dodger and stackpack Mike and Wendy are both that rare combination of superb artist and craftspeople. Really beautiful workmanship.
They did very nice work indeed!
Both of you are truly inspirational craftsman, sailors and most of all...people. Very cool.
I love how you started with one boat and over the years you have converted UMA into the beauty you have now. Tastefully and cleverly redesigned and refitted to fit your style. Your videos are really good. Keep it up!

Strong work! She looks gorgeous. That fail safe device to save the dodger "wing" is genious.
The satisfaction of taking something that needs a little love, and making it truly the way you want it. Is hard to beat.
UMA looks fabulous!! U guys have treated her well and w/ lots and lots of Luv. GO UMA!
It has been soooo fun for all of us here on the Tube watching you make this boat into the coolest, quaintest little water home ever. Really fantastic job. Ingenuity, Craftsmanship, wit and a whole lot of passion in one video. Amazing
4 years already???? It seems like yesterday. You two are fantastic people. Thank you very much for your sharing all that. All the best.
This is so exciting. We are a family of 5 from Texas and we are in the process of buying our first sailboat to live on.... a hunter .... We are so excited and love watching your channel. We love this boating community.
The dodger "wings" are such a wonderful idea, and ingenious of the safety disconnects! Sleek looking stackpack, as well! Awesome job, everyone!
Terry is a great guy. Y'all couldn't choose a more friendly and real person.
The two of you are awesome. I really enjoy you videos, the places you go, the things you do and see and they way the two of you interact with each other. I love being around positive people who enjoy what they do, even if being around means watching you over the internet.
It’s easy to see the pride you have in Uma,and quite rightly she’s a beauty. 👍
The lines of older boats are so pretty. Ya'lll have made her so bright and clean. Fantastic Job! Dee and Deb
All the hard work you guys have put into Uma really shows, you should be proud of yourselves.
WOW Uma looks A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Such an amazing transformation! Well done guys!!
Uma looks super. I know you both are so proud. You have given so much inspiration to many of us out here. Can't wait till the next video. Fairwinds
Mom
The wings will serve you well in the cooler weather! Great idea with the pressure release! Uma looks Awesome
Remarkable all you've done in creating your eco friendly sailing machine. Hats off!!
What about when they were sanding their deck at the dock in Guatemala? What about all that dust falling in the sea? Is that an eco conscious mindset?
This boat looks so luxurious and it’s so small!! The bathroom really sold it for me. Can’t believe the design and innovation with the button on the floor and what you did with this tiny space. I saw a lot of tiny home builds but this is next level
Gosh guys, new sails, new canvas, must be a nice feeling. Wow that dodge looks amazing. Mike is a real pro !!
Absolutely amazing the transformation of Uma. Thank you again for sharing your journey and showing us how its done. “Don’t buy a couch” words to live by. Cheers and fair winds.

Keep enjoying life ... you only come this way once !! Congratulations on a really nice job!
I cant believe what a great job you guys have done on that boat.... It really does look the business.

Looks really good. I think the grey will fade in the sun better than a bright or dark color too. Those artisans did such a good job!
Smashingly great job guys. She's truly top notch now.
Your B-roll shots and transitional edits from scene to scene are awesome. You guys are really stepping it up. Great video...
Very nice details on the dodger and the mainsail bag. Really impressed and a bit envious.
Grey! Like it! Uma is looking SO sweet. These finishing touches on the exterior is liking putting cherry on top of a sundae.
We added small fabric wraps for the dodger fittings to keep them from scratching our windows. Nice projects you two!
Yes, Mike added little rubber bumpers to keep the Poly off the metal too. It's the little details that make his work truly stand out.
The systematic approach to every project, planning and great team-work are Uma trademarks. Very inspiring. 👍🌅⛵🍺
We love your "New Boat", and can't wait to see it under sail on a new adventure. Your work is complemented by the paint job, and color scheme, good choice! Safe travels.

A “new boat” is an understatement! What a difference! Uma is ready to dance, eh? Nice job you two!😁
Dan and Kika, congrats on doing such marvelous work to Uma and making her so beautiful. It looks amazing!
Hi guys,
I know this video has been here for a while and I've already viewed it but I really like this one and just had to watch it again.
Again, thank you 4 sharing.
Cheers,
Jay
Yes, there are actually chain cleaners out there. But a deck wash hose (like we have) works just as well. You just spray the chain off before it comes on-board.
holy crap, I've been skipping around and Uma is unrecognizable from early vids, beautiful job y'all

I love how you guys solve boat problems in a modern way. Great episode!
Great contemporary yet warm and homie design.

My stack pack is the best single hander peice of kit I have on my boat. It just does a terrific job, couldn't do without it.

I truly love watching craftsmen work
Wow! Uma is truly beautiful now. More sailors should follow your example. Keep up the great videos and fair winds and smooth seas ahead.
Watching the craft people is amazing, people still work with their hands.
You have the prettiest boat in sailing hands down😊
It is great to see young people with this kind of dedication, my compliments to your achievement.
You should be very proud of the work you have done, as I am sure you are. Uma marries form and function into a beautiful sailboat.
Guys the Boat is looking ama-zing inside and out!!! Love it when a good plan reaches fruition well done!! Have fun
Uma is looking fantastic! Great job!
Wow that guy Really does Fantastic work, beautiful dodger.
Smart move.
Fantastic job on Uma - it looks like you are prepared to stay for the long haul. Love your channel and content - Keep up the great work! Cheers!
Fantastic guys , you are truly an inspiration, everything you do is top notch .
