That's cause x pipes don't do what he's claiming they do. They usually just make it more high pitched. What he needs is back pressure, muffling or resonating. So unless the x shaped pipes are resonated they won't do shit to improve the sound.

Based on that year 4.7 if youre stock power levels then trying to get it to have higher RPM flow isnt worth it, they dont spin higher than 5800rpm even at that after about 5500 you can feel it running out of steam. The stock exhaust valves are 1.46" Manifold primaries are only 1-1/2" so basically the same size as the exhaust valve, so dual 2.25 or single 2.5 is the best and the OEM Y collector outlet is 2.5" Unless youre pushing 300+ horses then dual 2.5" OEM Dodge cats of that era were already "high flow" so as long as you got the identical ones or a less dense honey combed core like they are from factory.
It just doesnt sound as good under load without a muffler leeast when they straight pipe dual them. Idle is fully chonky and deep, but under load is like a wet fart/clap noise

My buddy had the crew cab version, we did a single pipe, with 1 Magnaflow performance with an exit in front of the RR wheel. It sounded great, the cop even complimented it the next day, (Buddy was speeding, cop heard him coming, lol.) Now it sounded really nice without costing a lot. The other mod was pulling the wire from the TCM. That wire changes timing before a shift. Without that wire hooked up the truck became fun. Have a transmission on standby. Since then I've been looking for a cheap Dakota with a 4.7.

90 Corvette- Do your manifold/headers as you wish into 2 pipes 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 dia depending on hp (2 1/2" supports up to 500ish hp) bring them back behind trans nice and even and side by side. Now bring these into a 4" dia pipe that you have flattened to 2 1/2" tall by about 5" wide and run this flattened tube down your driveline tunnel back to the rear transverse leaf spring splitting it again into two pipes to finish out your exit on either side at the rear as you wish, muffler or no muffler. I'd at least do a small resonator on either side if your Vette is cat-less. On that car forget the true duals unless you really want that raspy crap. The flattened 4" tube down the tunnel should come close in volume to 8 x one cylinders displacement which acts as a termination box and effectively shortens the length of the exhaust system that the engine exhaust flow "sees". This is going to increase your hp over a twin pipe system with a balance or X pipe and build a lot of torque and will sound rich and big block-ish. I don't suggest Flowmasters on this system. Something with a nice even non turbulent flow through.
Mufflerman 38 years, personally 60,000 muffler jobs and still counting.

Straight pipes on most engines just don't sound good. Sounds terrible. Maybe I am just old. Just cuz it's loud doesn't mean it sounds good. Should have gone with a magnaflow

Why not just add a resonator?

Any muffler at all would have been better. short knockoff magnaflow,Dual in dual out, or even just a pair of 12 inch resonators and 1 x......maybe ....then the back windows will quit rattling everyone who gets straight pipes will always come back because its too loud for the street... unless your real good friends with the local pd

Nice work! 👊🏻🔨😎 X-pipe cleans it up somewhat.

Those x pipes arent really effective at exhaust scavenging. The good ones are longer and actually create a vaccum in the exhaust. One way to test the x pipe is to blow compressed air in one inlet and hold something like a rag near the other inlet and see if there is vaccum

X pipe into a dual inlet/outlet wouldve been better. Thats sounds terribly unrefined.

You guys should have used an factory style x pipe from the dodge charger and challenger, they scavenge better and the sound is better
