I'm in Australia, and interested in your solution. Is the stone work actually on your property, or is it on local government land, or is it part of a secured community. In Australia we have either a footpath or open grassed drains. These are around 4 to 6 m wide. The placement of anything on these areas without local government permission is instantly removed and you get fined. The resident is responsible for the adjacent footpath, but technically we don't own the land. This includes where the driveway crosses the footpath to meet the asphalt. Anyway, nice work and the area looks just fine. I can see that you are a very proud yard owner. Cheers from Australia

Girl I knew in High School, lived on a corner lot. Her dad had a very nice rose bush planter about in the middle of his front yard. Kids on the weekend would purposely cut across trying to tear it up. He drove in four one inch rebar and tied his rose bushes to them. about two weeks later a lawyers kid cut the yard and tore holes in his daddy's 450 SEL oil pan. and destroyed the motor. His father the lawyer tried to sue for damage to the car. The judge after getting the whole story from Mr Robinson (rose bush owner) Made the owner of the Mercedes pay all court costs and about five hundred in damages to the lawn and planter. The judge said you can stake your bushes with what ever you think necessary to hold them up.

Sort of the same thing happened to us. A young driver lost control and ran over our rose and our Rose of Sharon and continued up the street, on the tree lawn mind you, until regaining the street 4 houses up but on the wrong side of the street. We now have boulders that should stop any further mishaps and we were able to save both the rose and the Rose of Sharon. Careless or drunk drivers...

I had a punk kid run over my corner lot three times. I asked nicely to stop. The third time? I put a VERY heavy duty rake in the grass, He went over it at about 30 mph, and it ripped out EVERYTHING from the engine, on back. The entire muffler/CAT fuel line. Totaled the car. His dad tried to sue, and then found out that it isn't illegal for me to leave a rake in my yard...

It seems to be everywhere. I have friends who had to repeatedly replace their mailbox as some dimwitted teenagers, thinking that country addresses are in season, would run off the road and destroy everyone's mailboxes and posts. The people got together and my friend, a welder, had an idea. Everyone pitched in. 6 inch drilling pipe driven 6 feet into the ground and filled with concrete and rebar, with some rebar sticking out in a pattern and painted to reflect light at night. Mailboxes made out of old oxygen bottles and welded to the pipes. It didn't take long- rancher's kids (who knew better) were barreling along at about 40- they hit my friends mail box and that post and stopped cold. They did get injured because none were wearing seat belts. The sheriff notified their daddies, who showed up and instead of yelling at my friends, took one look at the truck, found out what their kids were doing and told them they were going to reimburse everyone for the cost of the new mailboxes and posts. (as well as getting their butts kicked when sent home). The owner of the truck looked at his son and said the kid would be working all summer, through school and wouldn't see a penny of "college money" until the truck was paid for. Sometimes, there are good parents who aren't out to sue anyone for their kid's crimes.

This reminds me of when I lived on a corner lot, in an area called Lookout Hill. When the city had the fireworks display every year, hundreds of people would come to the area to watch. They would put lawn chairs and blankets on my grass, leave trash (not to mention the noise), etc., and were rude as hell. After the first year, I would turn on all the sprinkler's the day of the fireworks, and run them from the afternoon on (making sure they sprayed over the sidewalk too). Stopped that problem.

I had the same problem with neighbors driving across my lawn. I’m at the end of a cul-de-sac and they were too lazy in the winter to try to figure out where the road was. Between a combination of metal stakes and smaller rocks. I solved that problem. Then a couple of young guys moved in across the street. my drive is directly opposite theirs and they have monster trucks. I started noticing tire treads all over my driveway from them using it to turn around. Being single, I move some of the rocks to close off my driveway. That problem is solved for now. Now, if I could just get the other neighbor to stop mowing my narrow patch of lawn on the other side of my driveway. The previous neighbor cut down trees I had growing that were still saplings. I’m over rude and inconsiderate neighbors. I’m getting it from three sides.

It's been many years and I still get upset just thinking about it.

Look into whether your "lawn mowing neighbor" is trying to take possession of that narrow patch of grass. Not sure where your mailbox post is but if its at the street in the right of way and someone hits it and is injured because of a reinforced post you can be held liable for their injuries. There's a Supreme court case that set a president. I think it happened in Ohio. Easily looked up on google. I live in rural Kentucky and mine was constantly being knocked down by farming equipment (4 times in 1 month). 12 times since I moved here 2 years ago. I had to move it 20 ft onto my property and install a turnaround for the postal service. When I was in high school we lived on a corner lot, lots of people took the corner carelessly and went up in our lawn. They were building a new school accross the street and unearthed a giant boulder. My mom got the contractor to move it to the corner of our lot.

Our post office mail lady would turn her little mail truck around in our driveway usually a couple times per day. 22 houses on the street. She would drive down the entire circuit making the mailbox deliveries. Then she would randomly go back to houses for the packages. It usually took her 35 minutes to do the entire street of just 22 houses. And she drove off the driveway and crushed our sprinkler heads many times. Finally I put two 250 lb rocks on either side of the driveway and the problem got mostly solved. However, one day I found the stone in the street and I had to struggle to get it back in place. A year latter she retired and was replaced by a young guy who delivered to all 22 houses in about 5 minutes. I don't think he ever has to turn around at all. He delivers mail and packages in one stop at each house.

The way the new mail carrier did the deliveries, is actually how it's supposed to be done. That's a good carrier. We organize the mail, and packages in order, matching to the addresses in sections. Sorry your older carrier was so lazy. Surprised she wasn't ever reprimanded for taking so long with her deliveries. We have a time limit to each section, and whole route altogether.

@sarahmcgee I have that problem too. The difference is I rent the house. I am 68 with arthritis throughout my body. The ruts made by the drunks makes it really difficult to mow those sections of the yard. I live in Florida, so I mow from May through October with a push mower. I like what you've done. Even with smaller cars and the fact they have power steering people still can't keep them on the road. Just look next time you're in the grocery store parking lot. The smallest of cars are pulled in crooked or not centered in between the lines. The only thing that's frustrating about putting boulders in your yard is you've made a little more work for yourself, having to weed eat and mow around them. A neighbor near me parks on the grass to pick up and drop off her kids from the school bus everyday. It's starting to put indentations in the yard and with the heat of the catalytic converter it's cooking the grass. Sad thing is they live 300 feet from where their kids are dropped off and they've walked half way home by the time they get to the car.

Consider putting in a curb or a row of the concrete curbs that are used in parking lots. It won’t stop everything but will deter them and it’s easier to mow and trim than multiple irregular large stones.

I've come back to my small car and had no way to open the doors on either side of my car due to behemoths sprawling all over the place. One problem my son has (my dad had the same problem because my son bought my dad’s house) the house was next door to the community center parking lot. During elections the community center was a voting site. Both parties would stick their signs in my son’s yard. They never bothered to ask. My son went to the community enter and asked them to remove them. They did but the next election they were back. He just started pulling them up and pitching them in the parking lot.

Man, having people drive on your lawn is bad enough in most places, but you guys down there get those days of massive rainfall that saturate the turf, to the point just a bicycle driven across it will just tear it to pieces - lol, and I don't even want to think about the UPS truck! I know you eagerly anticipate the satisfying, if occasional, loud, crunching sounds of metal on stone soon!

With that company ANY contact is a chargeable accident and goes on drivers record. All of these would be very serious. Trust me, I know. My neighbor and I share a driveway and at the road it is huge. Easy turn around. People will back out right on our grass, cut across to shorten the trip. When there is a job in our rural area all the contractors seem to use our drive as a meeting and turn around. We may have to fence it.

If you've never seen the channel, treat yourself to binge watching the videos (most are only a minute or two). The best though are the comments. Anyway, I too can't wait to see hear the sounds.

We had a problem when I was growing up with our neighbors. Even though we lived in a fairly well to do area, they would frequently throw major parties. People would park all over, including partially in our front yard, and would also back into our yard when they were leaving (dirt road and the yard was native seed w/buffalo grass). . My Dad and I spent a few weeks going up into the mountains, getting large rocks off the side of the road (far cheaper than buying them!). We then outlined our yard with the large rocks and waited for the next party. Something like 5 or 6 cars had to be towed out after becoming 'impaled' on the rocks. Boy were people *issed. That's what you get for destroying other peoples property!

Many years ago, our neighbor across the street was some kind of serious about his lawn and flowers. He was on a corner. Neighbor boys found it hilarious to drive through his yard tearing up the grass, always at night. One say he had enough, hung a railroad tie from a low branch. When the ususal suspects came through his yard and wrecked the hell out of their car. Before the police came, he took down the railroad tie, hid it somewhere and feigned ignorance. The boys did have to answer to the law. They never did it again.

I had to do the same thing thanks to neighbors who thought my yard was a parking lot and part of their driveway.
I asked numerous times for them to stop and they just didn’t care.
The heavy jagged Lake Superior boulders I had brought in have taken their toll on their vehicles at least three times that I know of. They actually had the nerve to call the police on me which gave me and the officer that responded a pretty good laugh. The cop actually asked me if I noticed any damage to my boulders just to get a further rise out of him.
He’d called code enforcement, whined to other neighbors and a county sheriff that lives down the road.
Everyone has asked him the same thing. “Why do you think it’s okay to drive through someone else’s yard?”
After 3+ years of this saga a for sale sign went up in their yard a few weeks ago. Praying for new neighbors with a touch of sanity and a slice of common sense.

I had a horrible neighbor whose friends would sometimes drive across my lawn, so I bought some big boulders to put across the front of my lawn. But the problem was then his friends would still walk across my lawn to his house. I eventually had to put up a hog wire fence around my front yard and that stopped all the traffic. Best money I've spent on the house. I left the boulders and they will help make sure his friends don't hit my new fencing. The neighbor on the other side of him, also put up a hog wire fence! We fenced him in and we love it.

I live at the top of a hill. Beside the road going up it. At the bottom of the hill is a very nice place with a little picket fence. It on one corner of a four way stop intersection. There are constant fender benders and people sliding dow the hill in winter. This damages thir fance. They haven't been allowed to put in a stronger fence as this will cause more damage or worse accidents.
So he went to a local quarry. Got them to make him 3 pyramid shaped stones. Decorative stones. And every time they get hit he has to replace them.😊 The insurance companies and city council hate him because each cost them about 2500. The home owner and quarry owner split the payments as the quarry owner turnes them into gravel.

We had both grass parkers and poop leavers. We compromised a bit with the people trying to park up on the curb to be out of the traffic lane and put in a ciuple of feet of packed gravel, but then the barrier started. We put a row of bushes lined with "decorative metal wire fencing" nobody wants to risk their tires on, so. they use their gravel strip very carefully. Bonus-the dogs can't walk through the bushes lined with wire fencing either. 2 birds, not in the bush lol

My neighbor growing up did this. They live on a corner lot that leads to a small highway entrance. This corner also houses a fire hydrant. Needless to say we had our fair share of geysers over the years before they did this. When it got icy, it got soo much worse. The city hasn't needed to replace that hydrant in well over a decade. Their rocks are a bit smaller but run 2 deep in some areas on that corner, and those suckers are rough and sharp. We could hear the carnage from hits until the regulars got use to not cutting that corner.

The largest rocks in the world aren't going to stop bad, stupid, careless or vindictive drivers from getting on your lawn. Where's the will, there's a way-----and that's why these dolts will never learn any lessons. They may damage their vehicle, but they'll just keep repeating
their behavior over and over again. We've seen a former neighbor use a four-foot stone wall to prevent drivers from driving onto their property. Two years ago a speeding driver hit the stone wall; his truck went airborne and demolished the family's porch and garage. The driver's insurance company tried arguing that the stone wall----on the people's property----was a nuisance obstacle to drivers and actually invited drivers to hit the wall. The driver and his insurance company didn't get to first base, but they sure tried their best to avoid paying for the extensive damages. And the stone wall still exists and is doing its job. In fact, three other neighbors also had stone walls erected on their property to try to stem damage by speeding drivers.

Came home once to find TWO giant motor homes parked on my lawn. Rude guys at the reunion refused to identify the owners or make them move. We warned them "Move it or lose it. Towing company will be delighted to help you lose it". Finally saw a couple of people show up and move the RVs. Put in those exact kind of rocks that fall. No more lawn parkers.
Word of warning, the rocks will sink over time. My 2 1/2 ft tall rocks were barely visible when I finally sold the property.

We have a sprinkler system in our grass so we don’t want people parking on our grass when they go to the beach. Great idea with the rocks

Thank you very much! That's one of the main reasons we did this, because we got sick of replacing sprinkler heads every week :) We appreciate the view and comment, hope you have a fantastic weekend. Guru Mike & team

I had the same problem with a neighbor driving over the corner of my yard. Large rocks solved the problem, even with a driver who drank too much sauce frequently. She had to call a tow truck to lift her car off rocks a couple of times.

Could you sue the companies every time someone hits a rock. With video evidence of course. I have heard some people make a profit from people hitting the giant rocks and trees in their front yards.

My old neighbor on Long Island, New York had hedges across the front of her yard which people constantly crashed. She made so much money off the insurance companies it was crazy!!! She would stand those bushes up and feed them and wait again for the next dope!! More money all the time. They paid for ruining her grass also! We all laughed, but she got the checks!

Fences, trees, bushes. What you can't do is what a guy my grandfather knew did. He lived on a bad curve and in rain and ice, people would slide into his yard. When the gas crisis hit in the 70s, he lined the yard with cheaply bought gas guzzling Cadillacs, Lincolns, etc. After a few claims, an insurance agent was sent out and threatened to cancel his insurance if he didn't move them.

That wasn't our intention, we were just trying to save our lawn and our sprinkler heads from having to be replaced every week. Thank you for the view and comment, have a great day my friend. Guru Mike & team

I have 3,000 tons of boulders that you could have for free. You load and take away from CT. For all the work, you should have just had the company place them. You could have been hurt. I would never have asked my wife to put her weight into it. I bought her a Ford tractor with a loader.
We had a problem 60 years ago with kids hitting our mail box. My Dad got a rock drill and drilled into the ledge. He then set the mail box on a heavy steel pipe into the ledge. A couple weeks later there was a big crash in the middle of the night. The next morning there was a bumper next to the mail box and a trail of oil running down the road. Have fun. Good Luck, Rick

News flash you @richardross7219. The cost of rocks is based on the labor to move them - not because rocks are a precious object or you made them haha.
The labor fees in FL are insanely high. Your fantasy that wholesalers of boulders just stick around and work for free installing materials never happens.

The landscape company that brought the boulders would not place them for us, we did ask. As far as my wife.... we joke all the time, don't worry, she gives it right back to me :) LOL Thanks for the view and comment, your dad did good :) Have a great week my friend. Guru Mike & team

@@MrKnowItAllGuru My wife outranked me when we were in the Army 47 years ago. We made a lot of compromises. One great one was that I could have any tool if it paid for itself. It allowed me to buy an old shoveldozer for clearing our land. It paid for itself 35 years ago and I still have it(hasn't run in 25 years). Be ware of ticks. My wife died from a tick bite 7 years ago. Good Luck, Rick

Since you have such a pretty yard, you should invest in a powered gate instead of just a chain. You don’t have to have a fence to install a gate.

@@MrKnowItAllGuru If you are open to suggestions, we installed a Mighty Mule gate and opener in 2018 and it is still in service. My only regret is that now Mighty Mule offers an opener I could control from my phone instead of having to go down to the gate and set the control to keep the gate open when we are having a party or expecting a big delivery. I installed the solar charger option and a second battery since the gate was too far away to reach easily with power. The only maintenance I have done is to occasionally jack the gate up a little so I can easily add grease to the hinges and spray a little silicone garage lube on the pistons. Of course, companies change over time, but our opener has given us great service. The only other suggestion I would make is to put all your wires in conduit. It not only protects them from accidental contact with a shovel, but should you ever have to replace a part like the vehicle sensor or a gate motor, you don't have to tear up your yard again, you can just pull the new connecting wire through the conduit. Your property looks wonderful and I hope you continue to enjoy working on it.
