When I was a kid, I would save my allowance so I could buy a pack every week. All I could afford was Homelands or Fallen Empires. Fast-forward 30 years, I still can't afford to buy a single pack of Legends. Sigh.
lol how true, the oldest set i could ever purchase was the dark, unlimited was sold out and you could not find beta even then (ofc this is before the internet was widely available back in 1994, but it amazes me that people still have sealed boxes of the early cards. I wish I could afford a box of antiquities and arabian nights lol. So many great memories this game has given us.
Learned to play MTG back in 94. I was in the Marine Corps on a flight to Port au Prince Haiti. Guy who taught me sold me a red/ green deck that he put together with dual lands, tarpans, a couple ball lightnings and a mox ruby for $50. Man those were the days. After 6 months of playing daily without sleeves, those cards were trashed. If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve sleeved the Tarpan
I love these vintage magic videos, personally I don't have the funds for much vintage, so these videos are my favorite. Modern is cool too but vintage just hits different. Especially your collection videos, those are definitely the best. Thanks Rudy
This just made me think of how much I'd enjoy a good sniff of a box of Italian Legends. I LOVE Italian Legends. The original, beautiful Legends art, but in dark, saturated print. Just stunning. There were one or two foreign black bordered revised sets that were the same way, but I haven't heard a word about any of those in forever. The darker art and really nice quality of the cards just makes those sets stand out to me like other sets rarely do. I'd love to know what some of those sealed boxes are going for these days, especially because of scarcity. What I wouldn't give to have some of the black bordered foreign duals I used to have.
Buy a box now while they're still $1-2K before they hit five grand and they're further out of reach! I kept buying my favorite sets so I can draft them for years with the OG magic squad.
As someone who began playing in 94 with Revised I have no idea how a single box of this (Italian edition was different, we bought those for 7 bucks a pop when they came out later) even exists sealed. Singles were impossible to find let alone packs. But Wizards had a pallet to put into Dominaria United and here Rudy just bought four boxes. I’m happy for Rudy to find these, clearly it makes him happy. Hell if I could afford it I would buy one myself, but it really pisses off 16 year old me who couldn’t even find a pack to buy back in the day. I would be interested in a video discussion of how and why these boxes exist when supply was essentially non existent and are they being counterfeited or is it just a few boxes that are just bought and sold over and over.
I started late 93, the oldest box I ever seen, and that's once, was a legends box with booster at 35$. I've seen a The Dark booster box once too with 8$ boosters. These things were getting off the shelves FAST. The only way to get old cards was through auction forums on early Internet. It's amazing some of these sealed boxes are still around. If only I had money at that time...
I remember when Richard G’s brother came to Lokie’s card shop in Portland and sold a Legends box for $600. Loki sold packs for $30. People then thought that was too much. I bought the hell out of em :) 2007-2010 era.
It's literally the Steam Siege of Magic, printed like Base Set Unlimited... But still a great ornament for the house (i also have a couples FE sealed boxes)
Doubt it, there’s not really much good pulls in em. Packs are around $15. The only way for them to go up is if tons more come off the market through being opened and then they become more rare as sealed.
I remember buying 3 or 4 sealed Unlimited and an Arabian Nights booster boxes aboard our cutter for a tour in the Bering Sea. I should have kept one or two sealed back then but those damn cards were like crack when I was off duty.😅
All these people buying serialized cards when at some point even those will be reprinted with just different art, if you got one and kept it or managed to sell it great but in what world does someone spend 1/5k for some dumbo non-reserved list card when you can get entire 25+y old boxes for that price.
You didn’t miss anything. Magic only eats your money and time. The boom in prices are all artificial, scam by sellers. It started when Star City games pulled an insurance scam to get seed money and started to buyout dual lands in 2006 and resell at 10 times the prices and everyone was doing it for all the other cards.
@@Vivinski7 Exactly. You have serialized cards that still exist as the non-serialized. If these cards were unique, it would be something else, but they don't.
Back in the day I ordered 2 boxes of legends and the store was shorted by the distributor. I only got 25 packs. I did get a tabernacle and a Mana Drain though.
I went to 10-15 shops in my area before I found one that had Legends. I watched the employee open a case and promptly paid full pack retail price. It was really fun opening.
Since I'm old, I have a bunch of legends cards I bought back in the day. It never gets old seeing sealed boxes like this, it just instantly takes me back to when i was younger opening these packs man I would crack all 4 to hell with the money life is for living!!!!
no one did dude. It's a fake sale aimed to inflate the market. There's simply no way someone dumps 3 million dollars for a card graded 10 by such a minor grading company, eactly at the moment when vintage mtg is at its lowest in the last 3 years. The timing is just off and it completely gives it away.
I was around when 4th edition came out and then Ice Ages. Stores would have common boxes for like 10 for a dollar. You would regularly find alpha and beta commons in their, especially lands. I wish I bought even more up.
Keep buyin' em if you can, Rudy Dudey. Most of the people that watch this channel would if they had the money to do so. I wish I had an unopened box of everything right up to Before MErcadian . BE WELL! ^

We used to ante cards and I lost my black lotus and didn't think anything of it, I didn't realize the advantage you'd have by drawing that card and getting ahead early. Back in the day we didn't really get Magic. We all wanted to play the Shivan, Sengir, or Serra. New players can't get ahold of these cards in Legends because of the price, ($2.45 lol) so we don't know the cerebral part of the awesome history of the game. The market for these old sealed products is going to be for old players that have invested/made money and want to relive the game.
