Jake e lee blue burst
Poplar body
Maple neck
Rosewood board
22 frets
25.5” scale
Dimarzio sds on bridge and middle
Seymour Duncan custom JB in bridge
Brass bridge thick plate
1.58 nut spacing
(White is 1.6875 spacing)
Any questions drop em in the comments and I’ll get you an answer. Thanks
The nut width isn’t 1 5/8” (that would be the narrow but common 1.625”). Rather, it’s a super narrow 1.58”, which isn’t common at all. You probably just misspoke, but I just wanted to point that out.
Could you reference the time I said that to save me from finding it so I can add it to the description.
Thanks for catching it and keeping me honest. I appreciate it. I wouldn’t be able to do this without the viewer inputs. Let me know and I’ll make it right.
@@aalton absolutely excellent catch. I’m going to pin your comment and edit the description I. The video to reflect that. You’re definitely correct, I misspoke. Thanks for catching that.
Jake's original Blueburst was gifted to japanese singer/performer Ann Lewis. Jake recorded some nice rock/metal tunes and cds with her, Ray Gillen and Jeff Martin were involved too.
Don't know or remember what happened to my favorite of his, the Purpleburst. Not sure he gifted that one too.
Anyway the Purpleburst should be the next Jake's signature coming out. Probably after this covid's nonsense, with Jake going back on tour an maybe recording a third RDC's album.
I just purchased a 2022 USA JEL (white) for only $2150 w/case. Love it so far and deal was screaming!
That’s an outstanding deal!!! You did great!!!
Thanks for the info 👍🏻 I appreciate your advice 🤟🏻 nice Rolex ⌚️
Thank you. It’s an older one (reference 16610). I bought it as a graduation gift to me, from me. I bought it used. You can’t go wrong with going used from a reputable shop and I’m very lucky that it’s worth as much if not more than I paid.
Great looking guitar
Thanks for the feedback! She is a beauty!
Cool Gtr!
awesome!
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback
Great honest video, I don’t care about pro audio/video, I’d rather listen to a strait shooter. Thanks
Thanks so much! I appreciate the feedback.
Always wanted this model. I’m waiting to find one at a reasonable price. Also, you forgot to mentioned the white has the bullet truss rod at the headstock. That would have been a nice upgrade to the blueburst. 🤘🏻
I like how the sleek headstock looks but adjusting the rod is a PITA
Hi. Just to add confusion to the mix. My JEL Blue burst has a SD JB A2 Custom humbucker with dual rows of screws. I believe the AH seymour Duncan was like this. I bought the guitar in Tokyo at a Charvel dealer soon after it was launched by Charvel. I tried a few before I bought it and they all had the same JB with twin screw rows.
Charvel just raised the price on these by $300 and (according to the website specs) changed the body wood from Ash to poplar. Not sure how much of a difference the poplar makes but my Ash Blueburst is very resonant. Glad I bought mine when I did!
yeah guitar prices right now are stupid. It's unreal.
Thanks for the review here. Watching Jake E Lee play Killer of Giants on the Ultimate Ozzy VHS in the 80s really inspired me to play guitar as a kid so this one is on my radar, big time. I’ve heard about the narrow nut but I don’t see that being too big of an issue for me. The Charvel customer service issues you’ve been mentioning are a bit concerning though. You haven’t found the tone a bit thin? Seems to be a common complaint for whatever reason.
I think the blue burst sounds thick but then again I run a rectifier which is thick.
Everytime He say's "Charvel" substitute it for "Fender" because the return policy is not a Charvel policy but a FMIC(fender musical instrument company) one.
I miss the Grover days back in early 80's. Believe this or not but it was extremely
rare to ever hear someone say they had a "issue" with their Charvel back then.
Most "issues" were not the shops fault but were due to shipping or the dealer or even the owners fault.
I owned several pre 83 Charvels and not a one had a single issue. I was lucky enough to get a super sweet flawless Custom shop TMZ natural mahogany san dimas. i only paid $1700 with case and it plays as good as my old originals.
This new "Charvel" shop is very capable of making extremely great guitars but the fender policies are not so great.
Kind of- who owns the brand? You know what I mean? So yeah Charvel is like meh meh mhe, but Fender is their dad and allowing their bastard child to misbehave.
This is the coolest Charvel EVER! I know the bridge is solid polished brass... Do you know if the input jack is polished brass as well or just gold plated?
Thanks. That’s a good question. I believe the input is a played product because it isn’t showing the same, dare I say, patina, of the bridge.
I heard jake in a video reference it as swamp ash body so if charvel changed to poplar i guess the first batch are the ones he was using. now these are just kinda not right or did he possibly want poplar Great video btw 😎🤘🤘👍👍
Thanks! The OG strat was ash. Then the Charvel was ash. The blue burst, I’m not aware if they ever made them in ash. I’ll have to look and see if I can find that out.
I got my Charvel JEL Blueburst last week (used for a decent price). Thank you so much for helping me make an informed decision! Neck plays like butter, the JB Alnico II is boomy yet clear, and the single coils are very usable. I have my eyes on the White version now. My understanding is that the fretboard is slightly wider on the White? To me, the super narrow fretboard on the blue is the only thing keeping it from being the perfect guitar to me.
Thanks for the comment. The blue is just over 40mm, I think between 40 and 41 (from memory) and the white is just shy of 43mm wide at the nut. I can get my calipers out later and measure for certain. But the blue is a little more narrow than the white. I can’t really notice a difference when I play.
Let me know if your blue gets the “strat neck pocket crack.” Mine has it on one side now. 😭
@@paroblynn ha! Funny you should mention that- mine actually came with the neck pocket crack (which the seller failed to disclose, of course). Decided to hang onto it after the seller agreed to a partial refund. It’s a tiny hairline crack that I’m pretty sure is cosmetic, but now you have me wondering...is yours getting bigger? It IS a bit concerning only because you need to take the neck off every time you make the truss rod adjustment.
@@kevins4222 nope. Mine hasn’t gotten bigger. In fairness, I do bend the neck like Jake.
@@paroblynn haha! personally, I think I will be avoiding that technique now 😅
@@kevins4222 I do it to a lot of guitars. I haven’t broken one yet and I’m a big larger than Jake. Not that I’m huge at all, just Jake isn’t a huge dude. Effin’ incredible player though.
Do you have any good ideas on how to keep the brass hardware from tarnishing? (Besides keeping it clean/dry). My 2017 JEL is already starting to go downhill. Anything you can use to keep it shiny and sharp? Brasso?
😬
Hello bud. Nope. That brass is going to tarnish and look completely aged within moments of playing. I wish we could keep it shiny and awesome but unfortunately it’s a curse of the type of hardware.
I prefer the JB with the A2 magnet. I swap my JB's A5 to A2's because it tames the highs and gives it more of a of old VH tone.
Fwiw, It is called "Rear loaded" when there is no pickguard.
Where do you get the modded pickups? Because honestly, I could go for a few more of those special JBS
White with Lavender has an A2 in the JB as well. Says on Charvel website.
Thank you for the feedback. That is incorrect though. The Charvel website has a few errors on both of the models. I will need to go through my emails with charvels customer support to verify what all I told them needed corrected. They even addressed it to me in an email that the pick ups were different. I knew this already due to taking them out and actually measuring them against other stock JB pick ups.
Hi Patrick, sorry it took so long for me to get back to this but here's the comment from Charvel customer relations on my question.
"Blue JEL model Custom SD JB is Alnico II magnet and no logo. The one in the White JEL model, is the current stock JB that Seymour Duncan makes."
I was told by someone who was on the inside back in the ozzy days Jake used a Duncan Allan holdsworth model not the JB.
I want one so bad. Just don’t know if I’ll ever obtain it. Just to much money for this roughneck.
Jake e lee. Said: he HATED that blue charvel. …
Really? Do you have a link to an interview or article because I’ve never heard that but I love learning new Jake stuff.
heyoo! Which one is better for you? This one or the white one?
Hello. I like the feel of both for different reasons and the look of both for different reasons. The white with lavender look is more my style, as well as the height of the frets on the white. But I like the width of the frets on the blue, I prefer the guitar weight on the blue (it's 1.2 pounds heavier) and the 22 frets on the blue. I can switch between either guitar without a problem at all and the sound difference, while there, isn't enough that I bother with any eq changes between them. So the answer for me is both. But, the white with lavender is the one that "did it" for me, when I saw it. Honestly, I know these are Jake's signatures, but they feel like they were made for me. About the only difference I would have would be that I'd have it minus a middle pickup, and maybe a hum canceling single- even though I've got the Dimarzio SDS in 4 guitars.
@@paroblynn thank you so much mate
Commie Cough. lol you are correct sir
I am pretty sure my entire office had it prior to the pandemic. Then I caught it and confirmed it via test. We came into contact with it again and thankfully our natural immunity was on point.
So anyhow I got that blue burst I ordered from Guitar Center. It was advertised as excellent condition and it definitely wasn't. 😢 Some fool had tried to adjust the truss rod with the neck still on the body and you know that doesn't work. So, they did give me a no hassle return, but the search continues for my USA Jake E Lee.
That sucks! How bad was the damage? Would it have been worth trying for a discount and keeping it? I'm sorry that you had a shitty experience with them :(
@@paroblynn It wasn't that bad really. A couple good scratches into the clear coat above the strings and the aforementioned damage by the truss rod, but I didn't even notice it at first glance because the neck puts a shadow over it. Having said that, they did offer a further discount if I wanted to keep it. Bottom line is I've wanted that guitar for 25 or so years and I don't want the experience tainted like that basically. I can afford a new one and this has lit a fire under my ass to go ahead and pull the trigger. I just hoped I'd get a case Queen for $2.300.
Hi, any interest in selling the charvel case ? Sounds like you like the molded case a bit better.
I have two of them and I just store them to keep them nice in case I ever sell the guitars. I don’t honestly think I’ll sell them so the cases could easily be for grabs.
i want one
Even with the issues I had, it’s still damn nice.
never plays it just rambles on--- awesome guitar yes we would like to hear it
Thanks for the feedback. There’s other videos where I play it. Sorry you didn’t like the content. I’m open to any critique that can help make the channel better. I did get a bit long winded here. I try to keep them shorter. I do have a series planned where I play the differences between the white and the blue - just working on the audio video aspect. I’m a photographer and a guitarist, not a video producer so I’m
Learning a lot.
@@paroblynn hey I'm neither a noodler on guitar your videos are awesome wish I could do that for my BBQ I did not mean to be offensive but you have a guitar that I wish I had
@@unclealzbbq2185 I promise you didn’t offend me. I’m working on this to make it the best bang for the buck fast info channel I can. I promise you didn’t offend me at all. You just made me think of ways I could do this better. Nothing wrong with that. If my boss came to me and said “this and this”
Would improve my work, I’d do it. I see your feedback as the same. Simply just trying to help my channel. I absolutely appreciate that.
@@paroblynn That is awesome so if you want me to make you think -- check out GOD'S Warning...WAKE UP -sermon by Charles Lawson
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h6Wz...
Sweet guitar. I wish they'd come out with a less expensive import that cost around $799. Sucks about the truss rod issue. That should never happen on a $2800 guitar. The fact that Charvel wouldn't take care of you speaks volumes about their "corporate culture". I'd think twice about buying a Charvel now, especially at that price.
Yeah, I’d like to see a cheaper one too. But I guess Jake said “no.”
Fender sent a dud of a malmsteen to the dealer that sent it to me. I ended up returning that just last week.
I do have a functioning truss rod reset on this one now so I’m square there. I just almost rather buy a used guitar from now on, rather than be pissed off at a new one.
Fender did patent the shapes of all their headstocks, but not the bodies, so any commercial use would require licensing to sell. Since FMIC owns the Charvel brand (among others) there would be no need to use the trademark markings on any models belonging to their stable.
Several of the Charvel Jake’s and other models for that matter, mention it’s a registered mark.
@@paroblynn Beauty guits by the way. Badlands was a huge wake up call for me growing up, because I had no idea that Ozzy placed such a noticeable restriction on his personal playing style until I heard that first record.
@@connshawnery6489 I never thought I’d reach for the badlands stuff so much. I think between the three CDs there’s 1.5 solid Material and if the best was on one, it would be the one of the best rock albums of my era.
@@paroblynnAgreed. The second one was great material wise and that was produced by Jake, but the first one had a producer who actually contravened the band’s sonic preferences and gave it a more polished sound, which I think helped counter the organic, raw quality of the performances. The bass player (Greg Chaisson) outlines this in a recent interview, but Jake’s signature tone is in its full glory on that first record.
@@paroblynn I don’t know the third record at all, because as you know it’s only leftovers that were released after Ray’s death.
Get an evh which fender also makes and you shall love life ?!!!
The EVH guitars are very nice.
Can someone explain how he was getting ripped off? He wasn’t getting paid?
If you mean during his ozzy time, yep he was getting paid. But imagine this, you’re some dude and you and other dudes write an album. Ozzy comes out of whatever rehab hole he went into and throws down lyrics/ he gets all writing credits. Most of the money. More fanfare etc. now I don’t want to discount that ozzy made an unknown band known based on who he is- it’s important to recognize that without ozzy they weren’t the band. But at the same time dude getting a pittance a week and then ozzy and crew are getting fat stacks.
This is what happened.
Jake was getting paid around 100-200 dollars a week. But that wasn't the issue for him, he was basically unknown and thrown into the Ozzy's band, it was unreal for him.
Problem is, Jake WROTE BOTH RECORDS, Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin. But he's not getting any money from them.
Sharon and Ozzy screwed him out of royalties. Sharon waited for Jake to finish all his tracks for BATM, promising credits, publishing and such. Then after he finished Sharon came up to him with a totally different contract, all credits to Ozzy Osbourne alone.
Jake of course had to bow down and sign, he was in Ozzy and he was a nobody, was a lifetime's opportunity. If he refused he would've been fired on the spot and we may have never known the name Jake E Lee, missing out on a phenomenal player.
With TUS it's a bit different, he refused to write anything if he wasn't given the right contract. He got it but got fired after the tour, and was forced to sell back to the Osbournes his TUS royalties for peanuts! He didn't want to deal with those thugs anymore.
And just for the info, Ozzy never wrote any music or lyrics (he was in a clinic when TUS was made, for example), he only comes up with vocal's melodies. Jake and Bob Daisley wrote music and lyrics. Jake doesn't even want money, he wants his name on BATM's songwriting credits.
Thanks for the video. The only thing which I do not like is the placement of the selector switch. Too close for my taste. Cheers.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I know it seems awkward but honestly, once you use it it feels like it's supposed to be there. I don't know what exactly Jake was thinking about when he did his layout but it's just about perfect for me.
You, your cat, and your guitar collection. Not married, huh?
Lol, I am.
"The commie cough" 😂😂☹️😂😂😂
I’ll tell you the irony, I contracted covid and was out of work for awhile. It was quite miserable.
You have every right to defend yourself against charvel they should support you and fix the guitar and trussrod better to find a luthier?? They will do a better job??
That Sucks
Thanks for the reply. I will say getting it straightened out was easy and the guitar is still awesome.
No thanks
The actual price for this piece of junk is over 3,000. Never buy from them after hearing this.
I should do an update video to this. I don't feel bad that I ragged on it as hard as I did, but I also did end up using this as a main player for a lot of gigs and rehearsals and it never let me down. I think my chagrin with this is more that I was just so hyped up and excited that every little thing that was off just pissed me off more and more. I should update this to correct info. thanks for watching. I appreciate your time.
he was the least best Ozzy guitarist..
😂 on what planet? Listen to ultimate sin front to back and listen to bark at the moon front to back- then compare it to the rest. He was definitely his best.
@@paroblynn lol dude your insane. So let me ask you this. Who's the greatest guitarist of all time? if you say page you need to be slapped.
@@deangoings page is not the greatest of all time is too broad of a category. What category are we discussing? In my video I discuss and state that Jake was Ozzy’s best guitarist. Last I checked, Jake wasn’t in Zep. Page wasn’t in Ozzy, not sure how he ended up as part of the discussion. As for slapping me, if someone feels the need they can. Maybe I deserve it. @@paroblynn um yeah I know what your statement said and I moved on to a different subject, duh? Jake sounds the same with everything he does and lol you must be the only person on earth who says he's the best ozzy guitarist.

@@deangoings don’t do drugs. Sorry for your loss and there’s quite a few who think he’s Ozzy’s best guitarist. Can’t compare him to Randy. Randy didn’t have the chance to live through his prime.
