I'd like to _think_ I'd own up to my possible involvement, but who knows? In the US you could spend the rest of your natural life in prison for that, or get the death penalty maybe?
I think the thing is, if his damaged car has long since been repaired, and he tells that story, they can't actually _prove_ that it _was_ him that killed the woman, so the burden of proof "beyond a reasonable doubt" couldn't realistically be met against him for a successful criminal prosecution (her family might still be able to successfully sue him in a civil suit, as the proof requirements there are only "balance of probabilities"). And on the flip side, his story would provide _more than enough_ reasonable doubt for the current defendant that he too couldn't be _reasonably_ convicted of her murder.
Theoretically, neither man could be criminally convicted in relation to her death, but would both remain suspects and couldn't be acquitted either. But it _is_ America, and trial by jury is notoriously unreliable, so there's no guarantees... and once convicted over there, even if it was _obviously_ an unjust verdict, it is _soooo_ difficult, or next to impossible, to get that conviction overturned (unless you are super rich).
So yeah, long answer, but I don't really know. If I was quite convinced (in retrospect) that it _was_ me that probably hit her, I think I _would_ own up to it... hopefully

This is how you make a trailer. Give tidbits of information without giving away the ending.
The story looks intriguing, good cast, and a great director. I'll pay money to see this in the theater and hopefully others will as well so hollywood can see that we will shell out dollars to see a movie that is not based on a superhero, an existing - or re-boot of a former - franchise, or packed with action.

@@ndl6827 That is a possibility ... but feels cheap and a complete waste of building up the juror being at fault.
UNLESS ..... the entire movie is going back and forth over who is at fault. That isn't in the trailer, which would turn it into a bait and switch. And that's never good.

@@xR0N1Nx See that's the thing, boiling it down to labelling someone as a monster for not coming forward makes things black and white and simplifies the complexities of the emotions involved. Another movie similar to this and also equally amazing is the Machinist with Christian Bale, a movie that explores the emotions associated with guilt versus the consequences of coming forward.
I mean heck, let me ask you how you think the case of Anne Saccoulus went down, the woman who ran a man over in the UK after driving in the wrong side of the road, then fled the country and claimed diplomatic immunity because she was married to a spy. She never faced consequences for her actions, many people view her as a monster.

Oh no, sir! That's what YOU think! Juror #2 is actually a sci fi thriller that takes place in the year 3299. Juror #2 is actually the killer of this poor woman, but was placed into a coma and is in a virtual world via a computer brain interface. He thinks he is a juror on a case where he might have accidentally killed the woman that the defendant is accused of killing. If he steps forward and comes clean saving the man on trial, they know he is capable of good, and doing the right thing, so when they awaken him from the coma, he will be given a chance to pay for his crime and one day be free again. But if he he doesn't do the right thing, he will be sentenced to something worse than death. He will spend the rest of his life attached to this interface, and be forced to live out the final moments of the woman he killed over and over, repeatedly living her death, unable to escape until he one day dies of old age.

Austin Butler has shown more range in just 3 films (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Elvis, Dune: Part 2) in my opinion. I think we should reserve using the term 'incredible' for performances like Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood, Viggo in Eastern Promises, Crowe in The Insider, Fassbender in 12 Years a Slave, Denzel in Training Day, Kilmer in Tombstone, Pacino in Scarface, Berenger in Platoon, Cruise in Magnolia, Bana in Black Hawk Down, Oldman in True Romance, Cage in Joe, Thomas Jane in 1922, Damian Lewis in Keane, Jason Patric in Rush, Barry Pepper in Like Dandelion Dust and Guy Pearce in Lawless.

You act like coincidences like this don’t happen in real life. Do you know what case popularized the use of fingerprinting to I.D. people in prisons? Have you head of the story of Will West and William West in 1903 Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas. Both men had the same names, body measurements (known as the Bertillion system, where body measurements were taken to identify an individual), physical appearances, but they were not related. Both men wound up in the same penitentiary at the same time and that case ended up leading to the widespread adoption of fingerprinting in the U.S. for law enforcement.

@@ericecho5118 Logan, Deadpool, Phase 1, Wonder Woman, X2, Blade, Spiderman 2, Batman Begins, First Class have great acting, stories and production values, 100%. But more recently, superhero movies have switched to going for the cheap look - shooting on digital instead of 35, using green screen instead of built sets, staying on a sound stage instead of on-location, animated squibs, muzzle flashes, explosions and vehicles instead of real ones killing the visual thrill factor and having scripts more action set-piece focused than story focused killing audience engagement (Madame Webb, Bloodshot, Aquaman 2, The Marvels, Black Adam, Shazam 2, Morbius, The Flash, Venom 2, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, Quantamania).

Sometimes fiction is better than real life, imagine trying to do a movie about Anne Saccoulus, the woman who drove on the wrong side of the road in another country, killed a man, then fled the country after claiming diplomatic immunity because her husband was a spy. Spoilers, she faced no consequences.

This movie seems to take place in Chatham County, Georgia but I wonder which police agency investigated the crime? In one scene (which looks to when the jury and the defendant visit the crime scene), we see a brown Chatham County Sheriff's vehicle, but the Sheriff's Office is only an enforcement arm of the county court system and doesn't investigate murders as far as I can tell.
So murder investigation was probably carried out by either the Savannah Police Department, the Chatham County Police Department (which covers the unincorporated areas of the county) or one of the police departments for the other six incorporated cities and towns in the county. Since this would be a high profile case (young white women ) there is also the possibility that the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) could be the primary or a supporting investigating agency. Since it didn't seem to take place near an interstate, its less likely that the Georgia State Patrol's Special Crash Response Team (SCRT) would investigate.
The fact that the crime took place on a short concrete bridge over a stream or small river near a "Deer Crossing" sign is a big clue that it took place in a rural area of the county, which may rule out the Savannah Police. Since it seems like the victim was on foot, that probably means that its not too far from Rowdy's Hideaway bar, which seems to have wooden deck at the far end. Its hard to tell, but the deck may be overlooking a body of water which could point to an unincorporated area of the county (most of which are near waterways) or possibly the towns of Tybee Island or Thunderbolt. But I knew these two towns really well and don't recall them having any short span bridges of that type unless they were added after I moved an hour away 30 years ago.
Let's say the crime was investigated by the Chatham County Police Department. Six murders occurred in their jurisdiction from 2018-2022 as opposed to Savannah which had 34 murders in 2021. The Savannah and Chatham County police departments were merged from 2005 to 2017 but the county department is listed as having cleared five of their six murders they have reported to the FBI between 2018 and 2022. They list 14 murders for 2023-24 on their website after only having 3 each for 2021 and 2022.

But with a smaller department which polices areas that tend to be whiter and richer than Savannah, I could see the pressure to close the case as fast as possible, especially since they seem to have an almost perfect suspect: a romantic partner last seen in a violet, public incident with the victim. And if the number of cases they are handling recently is increasing, it is no wonder they probably didn't look for any other suspects.
As a side note, the Savannah police were noteworthy for clearing about 80% of their murder cases over the last five years, but back in August six of their homicide cases were dismissed due to perjury and other negligent actions by two Savannah detectives. Hopefully Chatham County didn't inherit that kind of legacy when they filled out their new police force in 2018.

I wish there had been a cool looking bar named Rowdy's in the Savannah area when I was in college! But Kevin Barry's and Congress Street Station were also pretty awesome :)
Its great to see Clint Eastwood come back to Savannah again after "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." He's had such an amazing career, not just as one of the most iconic actors of our time, but also as a pretty good director. I love so many of his movies but "The Outlaw Josey Whales" is my favorite.
