- In this video, I showcase my latest pickup, a Struck On The Day coin. The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen 2022 Celebration Sovereign, struck on the 6th Febrauary 2022 to mark the day the Queen was sworn in to the throne.
Just thinking out loud really my thoughts and showing my Journey.

So the 6th was a Sunday , never saw them for sale Sunday or Monday , when eventually they were on R.M site they listed as sold out... so not sure they ever went on general sale... I think with a coin like that it's probably best to get it graded by NGC , and the added bonus , it's slabbed rather than sitting in the cheap case... if you can get a PF70 it will add a lot of value to the coin... at least you will know for sure what the quality of the coin is... I have a feeling that most I've got recently from the mint wouldn't reach the minimum grade of PF68 ...
Yeah they went on sale on the day in the afternoon though. I do feel grading this coin would be good as you will be able to see more of the plain edge on the coin. Maybe one day but I am not ready to send coins to grade at the moment. I believe you need or should have at least 10 coins to send off to grade. I would go direct to NGC office in London to do that personally. 🤣

I am in USA. I have been vacillating between whether to buy the bullion one or not. I took so long that they are all sold out at my usual discount places now. I decided to get one but probably paid more than I would have earlier. It as at about the same premium as the 1/4 American eagle on a per ounce basis. It's resale value won't be as much, on a per ounce basis, as the gold eagle. But why not, I have to have a little fun sometimes. This will be my first sovereign.

Good choice there AS, but I'm just keeping to the standard bullion version. Bought two 3 weeks ago and was planning a sneaky purchase this weekend but waiting to see if gold gets a smack down again after a couple of weeks going up and up, before I get a couple more. I have bought Sovereigns as I have had a nagging feeling about 5 years ago that I might need them to trade and barter with at some point in th future, and the way the worlds heading, my gut feeling may unfortunately be right!!
Yeah I hope your gut feeling is delayed for another 10 years at least, gives us more time to prepare. Probably the wiser choice to stick to bullion, tbh, especially if you think it will be used as barter. Personally for me im looking at my bullion stack and compared to the proof stack, the value has decreased in bullion so been heavier in proof coins recently. But no doubt will go get some bullion soon😁

@@averagestacker Unfortunately mine has a massive scratch on the side of the unicorn on the obverse. I’m not sure whether to return it or not…
@@DeathaceGames Oh no... That is not good. I feel for you, this is the one coin if any when we do not want issues with the coin quality. Is it noticable by the naked eye? Reason I ask is that mine looks ok with naked eye but with the loupe at x10 mag, it has missing frosting and a black line mark on the queens side, but just by looking with the naked eye it looks decent enough to keep. Not quite sure if they keep replacements back for these situations. I hope they do for everyones sake. Worth to give them a call and make sure they exchange if possible. Sorry and sad to read about this buddy. RM needs to sort this out asap. 😭
@@averagestacker Yes. Unfortunately it is noticeable to naked eye. The plain edge rim is also fairly scuffed and the brown cardboard outer box has a damaged tab. It’s a real shame that the RM let coins go out in these conditions and the sheer amount of releases is surely impacting quality control. I’ve shared the pictures of mine on TSF SOTD sovereign thread if you want to see it.
Going to speak them on Monday and see what they say. I have no idea if they would of held some back for replacements but I hope so.
