The MAN is an underrated truck. I had four models over ten years and life was a breeze. A no nonsense workhorse. The Actros I've been driving for only three years feels like a life sentence. They are the worst trucks on the road.
Thanks for the video, I was given a new 500 on the 23rd and for two days was trying to get my head round the controls and exhaust brake. Your videos are always informative. Two days and over 1200kms already, comfortable , quiet and a mile muncher. Love it.
The older MAN's were way far superior. I presently drive a 2015 MAN 540 with 670,000 km on the clock on double roadtrain work here in Australia. Gutless pulling away and a 2 second lag between putting your foot down and actually moving is bad.
"The way the truck's been treated". Am I the only one who pictured the truck in the next scene, sobbing in the depot, telling the operator of all the yelling in the cabin and the heavy-handed turning of the steering wheel? :D
Great video, I enjoy your videos, but none of the trucks you have evaluated are available in the States! I do enjoy learning about the European trucks, and your videos do a great job of showing what driving these trucks is like. Thanks, cheers!
@Gareth Ifan, you don’t say! I only mentioned that they aren’t available because except in his videos I will never see one of the trucks in real life! It was not meant as a criticism but simply a complaint about my personal situation, but he does a really good job of showing them off, just wish I could travel to Ireland for many reasons not just the trucks!
I really did like my old TGX 480 tag axle. It was a great truck and one I miss. Man is really an underrated truck. What you really need is the retarder as that is a superb bit of kit. Plenty of room in the cab too.
Hino=No Tech rebellions truck not good truck.Always knew they were Highly Noobs and always in mechanic service with overheathing problems not found on MANs though,
The small rubber band on the thank which holds the „plate“ behind the cap to get to the hoses is reacting with the aluminum tank and after 6-7 years it starts leaking! Just a small hint;)
In 2019 Man are still using that outdated clutch system in the Automatic box. Anyone will tell you, if you need to quickly let your foot off the accelerator just as you've pulled off (probably due to the vehicle in front not moving off quick enough) then the MAN will try to stall on you particularly if you've got a heavy load. I don't know of any other Auto truck which has this problem and can't understand why MAN has never addressed this issue.
Nice intro with the drone shots 👍have just bought one to my trucking channel but havent get the chance to test it yet . Good video Stavros, and to bad i didnt know you were in sweden (Södertälje) I live in stockholm myself.
Looks good in white with that black grill..Though would like to know whether these EURO 6 engines have the usual overheating problems prevalent in the EURO 5 engines specifically those used in the TGX 26:440 model
Wow Stavros, I have just learned something new today. You explained what MAN stands for and after all these years I am a happy man. Even more groundbreaking news, you told us the meaning of the lion logo. My dad had a MK1 VW Golf brand new in 1981 and it had the same logo on the steering wheel instead of VW. Somebody please explain why?! :-D
VW used to use in the 60s and 70s the coat of arms from the city of Wolfsburg in their steering wheels. I can clearly remember it in my grandpa VW Beatle. It looks somehow similar but it‘s not the lion logo from „Büssing“ which MAN is still using today.
where are the videos you said you made for the Scania S730 and the hybrid one ?we are here in Egypt waiting for every and each new truck video from you
viability isnt great from the windscreen I'll admit, mirrors aren't too bad once you get use to them. but these are great budget work horses. may not have as much torgue as rival trucks but the MAN wins in the comfort hands down. engines are fairly grunty also which I do like a lot. great to watch your older videos again, always look forward to more. keep on truckin Stavros my friend 🙂
Nice Man but few truck here in the Philippines. I like your videos about kinds of truck, I was too a truck driver but izusu and mitsubishi truck mostly use here in the Philippines. Very inspired videos. Hope someday I drive scania truck. Thank u and God bless
Huh few? I am also from Philippines, all new firetrucks are MAN and Leyland, no Mitsubishis and Isuzu except old ones but I see many Old MAN with bussing logo. Trust me. We have them in Fire departments and delivery trucks. You use Iszu? But they use Mercedes parts and now Japan is a joke. In short most debt, im not making this up its a research you have to do.
I drive a 2018 xlx 500 the same front end as that but that one is much better spec than mine. My one the stereo is crap, am/fm radio or music from SD card are your only choice for music even though it has bluetooth you can't play music through it for some reason, no USB or AUX ports and the audio quality both from music and phone calls is pathetic. Manual sun roof that you can not reach from the drivers seat, 2 manual sun visors which the passenger side can not be reached from the drivers seat (RHD model) I am really not a fan of it. We have a couple of 2016 models which are far superior to the 2018, although I must say I do like the chrome effect strips on the front of the truck and the do look half way decent when polished up. This 2019 model does seem to address some of these issues but that may just be a spec thing. The speedometer has always been an issue on mine, it is hard to read the MPH on it but I like on your one the speed can be displayed in the center which you can not on mine. I really do agree with the mirrors although viability in them is very good but you can lose a truck in the passenger side pillar. I really do not know why they insist on such a large steering wheel though (the diameter not the thickness)
Hi Stavo, please educate me on the Model designation of MAN Trucks, TGX 26 500, what does 26 stands for? other numbers I can easily follow eg 500 is the Hp, 6x2 drives two wheels, etc
MAN is probably the most under rated truck brand in Ireland, and over the years it was BLESSED with a poor sales team around the country. But if you operate them or talk to operators you will soon discover the REAL QUALITY of the brand.
An exhaust brake is just one type of retarder. Exhaust brakes basically make the whole engine a big air compressor, which is hard work for the truck and so it slows down. Other retarders can include electrical systems, which generate electricity from the momentum of the truck to slow it down.
@@wolfsarea A retarder is a powerful engine brake, whereas an exhaust brake is just a little valve that works off the exhaust pressure of the engine. Some retardation, but not very much - nothing compared to a retarder.
@@stavros969 I spotted you there Sunday. You were at the 3 livestock trucks on the right just as you come in to the main part. I was going to go over to ya but you were filming 😂😂😂
I've read that this new MAN will be without EGR. "We don’t know what’s under the cab of these trucks but we did hear some rumours that MAN is testing non EGR engines." - IEPIELEAKS. Also this is really likely to happen because Scania's V8 engines are without EGR (MAN and Scania are the part of VW, so called Traton Group)
Yes. Some don’t have EGR’s. I work at MAN and there seems to be a bad batch of EGR’s because trucks that are only a few months to a year old are coming in with EGR faults and being replaced. On the newer euro 6 engines the EGR doesn’t always work well with the adblue and causes problems with the EGR inlet valves.
@@davidtobias7627 Generally speaking, how would you rate MAN quality and reliability? I heard that MAN is a typical VW concept. Just comply with regular service and it won't stop. Is that correct?
