Earth First! used to have a slogan that you saw everywhere in the 90’s. “Think globally, act locally.” Its a very empowering piece of advice, and I feel like that version of the environmental movement has disappeared in the last 20-30 years. I miss them.

Yes, if we had put "Earth first", 50-60 years ago, human affairs would have begun to fall into place, and maybe we could have avoided heading into what appears to be an evolutionary dead end.
Instead we hauled ass from 3 billion to 8 billion plus, in exponential overshoot, and used the planet as an ash tray.

Reconnection is the answer. To nature, to each other, to our own abilities to feed ourselves. And yes, labor to creativity. ❤
    Great interview.

We are of Nature, not above it or separated from it. Human 1.0 will learn, or never become 2.0.

Love your enthusiasm Rachel. At the end here talking about restoration, it would be good to talk about explicit practices that help humans feel part of relationships with every other earthling, and give some pictures of actual restoration examples.

at 56 min the boggle at how easier it is to imagine genetic manipulation rather than imagining fossil fuel use reduction as fixes, one way to see this is to focus on intelligence as desirable like a product. There's two at least leverages here, the desire of parents for their kids to be intelligent, and the job world of researchers, scientists, biologists, lawyers opening up with a world justice system that values an intelligent ecosystem. This increases intelligence in the world, and is accessible instead of fearful. A third way in could involve the mega corporations and must be intelligent in a way that flips their power, perhaps fighting fire with fire as in incorporated villages with an open template that's DIY and responsible, between the family and the municipal levels. I like the idea of having a place there for graduate students where they can focus on their career, live inexpensively and well, give talks in a local space funded locally, travel around in a safe system to fully exploit this treasure of intelligence while giving back. Thanks again.
edit: I'm not a design expert but have heard that main design elements come first and must be got right rather than moving down to minor elements and trying to fix things there (very hard to get right) or decorative ones. Perhaps the main design element should be intelligence.

      Your only “option”:
      Crystal's Edict
"The Point" -Is so far reaching that it is nearly impossible to say in words. Speaking and lecturing or listening to speaking and or
lecturing about "living; life/Nature" are mostly just received as some kind of esoteric truth and a longing for something more meaningful.
The actual meaning of the same Truth is that only Heaven exists and humans are the only thing lost to it and from it. Servitude to Nature
alone is the only road to redemption. Inside or outside. Death / life are just misnomers, change of state. The Purpose remains constant.
One Soul many faces. No one form is superior to another. Civilization it's self is the cause of all life's destruction. Accepting this as
some kind of necessary phase or step TO something is delusion. Now is always constant. All and every essence is always dying & being born.
Action is now. Preservation of complexity for the sake of All beings NOT civilization at all And not humans first
1billion humans to dismantle all infrastructure and returning ALL mined/drilled materials to their inertial place of origin by order of density and toxicity.
1billion humans to create "Earth-Ship" type self generating environments from as much earthen material as possible. As many species as possible must be able to migrate to & from these ....
All the rest to support the the first two.
      One Soul Many beings /faces/species
      Crystal's Law

The irony is that those in power are in a dark ecosystem of their own which ties each to the other - a turbo-charged Darwinian world where the collapse of any player might lead to the collapse of the whole vampiric system and so none can face the consequences of admitting the light of reality onto the playing field. I've run out of metaphors so I'll stop there!

You might think about the fact that these processes of habitat destruction and devaluation of nature have gone on in all the industrialized nations. I don't think the Europeans are settler-colonialists in Europe. Of course there are also very severe social justice issues in many parts of the world. But capitalism is the biggest problem.

Wild, what wild? Humans dominate. Other species cannot collaborate with Humans. Humans dictate. Enormous damage has been done to the environment such that restoration and repair is very limited, important as it is. The ideas of restoration, repair and preservation are important components as is knowledge of how the environment works. However, we have changed the world so much that we need to treat the environment more like a garden that should be tended. I suggest that this even better encapsulates the trend of environmentalists.

I appreciate the importance of preserving what wilderness areas we still have... but the notion of 're-wilding' areas which are currently used for agriculture (i.e. food production) sounds to me like a recipe for depopulation. Just sayin'... 🤔

It is too bad that the few humans on the planet that do understand how important Nature is are making their voices heard 50 years too late. You are both young enough to think you can actually change peoples minds. I don't think you could do what it takes to change the mindset of the entire human population. Benevolent dictator indeed.

This channel and it’s guests are woefully short on comprehension of reality.
No civilization has ever been viable nor shall any civilization ever be viable.
Physics and nature are one in the same.
All civilizations collapse into the desserts they leave behind.
All species either serve the whole of life or vanish.

Instead of talking about habitat creation, biophilic design or regenerative agriculture. Again it’s a conversation about colonialism, defeating capitalism and hinting at degrowth. Reality is that people must see financial benefit of decarbonisation. That’s the fastest way to bring them along 99% of people I come into contact with are disconnected from the naturally world in their minds. Speaking to like minded people in a socialist echo chamber is not going to bring change. First priority is getting the world off fossil fuels.

Rachel, thank you for all your good work reach out to me so that I can show you a demonstration project of how we can train young people to create a new economic system based on ecosystem restoration projects. If life becomes the new currency and we give wealthy people the opportunity to diversify their portfolios by converting, an inconsequential portion of their financial wealth into other asset classes, which can give people the opportunity to develop the skills to create a new economic model based on abundance and the restoration of the planet. We have a chance of mitigating climate change. I am developing such a model here in Hawaii and would love to share it with you.

After listening to your recent episode on nuclear power, your guest very much in favor (Mark Nelson), I hope you will have a rebuttal guest. I would recommend Tim Judson. You can hear him on a recent episode of the Ralph Nader Radio Hour. I found his arguments much more persuasive than your pro-nuclear guest’s.

  • @projectmalus

paused at 29 min where the guest sums by asking where and who does this fix for wildlife and climate change amelioration. If governments and corporations are bound by efficiency, even when the efforts are for the non-human it wants to move to all-human as in the carbon credit plantations. The diversity is the scapegoat of efficiency. There's another thing where it's being done at such a level so the people don't have to move a muscle, merely notice and approve, as if they were royalty to be served. As if they were homo sacer, and they are if the human justice system is only for the all-human and is permissions for scapegoat making.
One answer is to make a world justice system administered by AGI with carbon credit and crypto, another is to go back and redesign community to embed wildlife corridors and habitat, and pay forward that which would go out as rent, to fund the building for those without. I'm curious to see where the guest goes with this, thanks.

I always learn a lot from your pods and videos. Anywho, was thinking about this interview you did with Nate Hagens, which kind of lingered in my mind. So, I started to write an article on it, but turned into a script, which turned into a video. Meant to use lots of AI to generate sort of the life-like simulation interview video, but too much work there. So, this is how it turned out for now; ruclips.net/video/iNdbqcux8k0/видео.html
