  • The arrests of suspects in the killings of three surfers in Mexico last month reportedly happened with help from an unusual source: the Sinaloa drug cartel. According to The Daily Beast, the people who tried to rob the surfers but ended up killing them were not part of the cartel, but low-level robbers acting alone. NewsNation’s Jorge Ventura says the cartel handed over the suspects to avoid unwanted attention.

That's not a victory for law enforcement. It's just the cartel saying they didn't want the bad publicity & hope to get back to business as usual. It's basic business strategy

We went to Mexico a few months ago. I asked one of our tour guides if the area we were in was controlled by the cartel. Asking if I wanted the honest answer he said it was, stating that the cartel in that area makes such a large portion of their income from tourism that tourist are often considered protected or off limits because they have to protect their income stream. If things start happening to tourist and people stop coming they stop making money.

The cartels own everything including major tourist related businesses. It's just one of many things they have their hands in.
And yes, they don't like their money getting messed up and they don't like killing Americans and giving our government a reason to send forces into Mexico. They fear someone like Trump who might be willing to use American forces to actually wage a war on the cartels.
They don't want to give America a reason or risk a public backlash from Americans demanding it.

I am an American who have lived in Mexico for over 5 years, the rule of thumb is , never travel to remote areas of Mexico that you don't know, this is a major no no. It is best to stick to tourist areas in major cities throughout Mexico.
Also, folks need to leave their American attitudes in America. Remember, though we share a border with Mexico, you are in a foreign country that play by a completely different set of rules and customs.
Remember, bad things happen in Mexico but equally in the United States, no one is immune from crime and misfortune, always keep your wits about you and travel only during the day with people you know.
This is a terrible situation but hopefully a major learning opportunity.

They found her because she had the phone of one of the Australian guys. Her boyfriend gave it to her as he told her he'd killed them and that her truck "had new tires now". That's how they traced her and why she told the authorities what he had done.

In case anyone is interested , I speak Spanish and I've followed the case from the local Ensenada News , and so far what I understood is that the guy confessed to the woman that he had done the 3 men because he noticed rhey were "loaded" with electronics and cash , (apparently his words) and that he had taken the vehicle to show off to her" and then something was said between them propting the guy to get rid of the vehicle at which point he removed the tires and had them installed in the woman's car a ford Explorer !

And who killed the Rancher/Land owner? Somebody knew about that well. Was it the accused "Thieves?" Why did the accused "Thieves" kill the Rancher? Did the Rancher have tires that looked good? Did he have a vehicle worth stealing? Not adding up with that dead 4th body.
