Informative video. I dont have access to a computer so I have to do fpp on my FT-65. I think the reason Yaesu hasn't released many hardware upgrades for the FT-65/FT-4X, is because they are supposed to be the entry level/budget radios of the HT line. I understand that in the field charging goes hand-in-hand with fpp, but they had to keep them from competing with 60 & 70. I wish Yaesu wouldve at least came out with a battery eliminator for the 65 for portable/mobile ops. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Thank you. I like the FT-65, but wish it could charge without the charging cradle. I think it's a great radio though, and is fairly easy to manually program once you learn your way around the menu functions.

Have you tried changing the Yaesu UHF to Satcom band i.e 255.550 band range? and which cables did you use for chirp generic Amazon cables? also what you said about charging is a massive benefit for the baofeng. The Yaesu is nice dot matrix display, lower tone speaker and more memory options, but the fact of being able to charge in the field with a power bank or solar is a massive win for the Baofeng.

I haven't attempted to monitor SATCOM bands , but I'm always looking for a new project so thank you for the suggestion, I'll have to check that out. Being able to charge equipment in the field is one of the main requirements I have for my gear. I like the FT-65, but I think Yaesu could have really hit it out of the park with that HT if either that functionality was built into the radio (like the FT-60 or VX-6, and some others), or if you could purchase an aftermarket battery that has a DC port like the Baofeng batteries do. You mean in terms of the quality / clarity of the transmissions?

@@PartisanCommsGroup quality is better on the yaesu it must have some filter but the baofeng receives broken signals I.e is more sensitive and better in an emergency, I used chirp and changed the baofeng to the SATCOM band easily before I buy the cables it would be cool to know if the yaesu can do it cheers.

Just wondering if this could open the gate to 3rd party software mods just like some people did for the Quansheng UV k6 radio

Both CHIRP and RT Systems let you adjust many of the radio's settings, but I believe with the K6 there are some threads (e.g. Reddit) where people are experimenting with different custom firmware. Personally, I would be hesitant to put custom firmware on something like a Baofeng UV-5R or a Yaesu because my concern is it may render the radio in an inoperable state. But it does appear people are doing just that with radios such as the K6.
