Great riding and review. 73 y/o been riding for decades . Busted up head to toe , major open hear t 6 yrs ago , absolutely love my turbo levo. You guys are young and tough and pro riders . When you get to my age you’ll love your e-bike !!LOL!!😎
This bike honestly reminds me of how much I like my older Transition Repeater. The Shimano motor and 630wh battery makes the bike one of the lighter full power ebikes. I also have 2 batteries and can quickly swap them out if I do a bunch of vert in turbo. I’ve owned both generations of the Repeater and highly recommend the older Shimano version. The SRAM system is going through some early gen growing pains, and the Shimano version feels quicker and slightly more fun.
Kudos for mentioning previous issues with the rear end/linkage. #honestreview. It's a bit of a shame, as other than that, I really like my Occam and the new Rise sounds great. We'll see how the Rise holds up.
It's not common for a manufacturer to keep making amazing bikes for so long. Basically since the "new" 2019 Occam platform appeared, it just stayed asking the best bikes you could ride. I would cherish the engineers if I was in charge!
is the firmware on the older rise upgradable? it's basically the same motor - EP801, but detuned to use less power and thus, smaller battery, lighter weight. but the 2025 model added a new mode to take advantage of the 85nm of torque that EP801 has. will there be an upgrade for older rise owners to take advantage of what their motor could do? this is the same formula that Giant is using - full power motor, smaller battery (>500wh), lighter bike.
The headset spacer on the Orbea Wild is very sensitive and prone to breakage. I hope they changed it on the Rise. Brake has to be disconnected to replace the spacer. Also, the headset cable routing seems to create some very abrasive rubbing of the housing...
I have a '24 Wild M10 with a 170mm fork and just got an EXT e-Storia shock for it. It's one of _the_ best bikes I've ever ridden. I have a Megatower V2, had an Oso, and while I still had the Oso I demo'ed a Wild and some buddies demo'ed some Rise's and we rode south mountain. Hands down the Wild was the one to have. I put an order in for one a few months later and with the smaller 625Wh battery. I'm surprised you haven't ridden one yet or really even talked about it, would like to hear your feedback.
Haven't ridden an Oso, or a Wild? Honestly, neither of them seem too interesting to me. Both are 50lb bikes and don't really have any advantages, either power or battery, over this Rise. I've been waiting for something like this Rise LT- 150/160 travel, plenty of battery (630 on the bike, simple 210 extender for 840 total), and ~42 lbs with DH tires.
Ughhh Rise will still have to throw something better to replace my Pivot Shuttle SL, that bike is just mint👩🍳👌 60NM motor is more than enough and it's soooo optimal and quiet! I'm hyped for Rise but it's not enough to replace it yet and on top of that we are comparing Shuttle SL to Rise LT, so it's an unfair comparison!
You said in your vid it had some design had limitations. Just thought you should shred the relay. No one else have pushed that bike like you have. My first thing in an emtb isn't the motor, suspension, geo, stiffness, ect. come first.
Does the motor still rattle? That’s my only gripe with orbea. Levo is dead silent in comparison. If they had fixed the rattle I might pick one up again
Carbon toptubes squishing while being squeezed is a big no-no for me. Along with a Flexy frame at your weight. My 220lbs of mostly muscle is going to snap that bike in half
Almost every carbon bike has a zone like that, but it makes me hesitant to toss this bike haphazardly.. and considering how easy it is to crash on rough trails, it makes we wonder about durability. The bike was indeed stiff enough for me, but it's a trail bike, not an enduro rig. It felt balanced with the 36 fork. If a 36 is too noodly for you, consider a bike built around a 38 (and that will be > 50 lbs if you're looking at eMTB).
Congrats on selling your last one! Yeah this new Rise is so much better than any other eMTB I've ridden. Same weight and range as a bigger bike, but 10lbs lighter.

Obsolescence? There happens to be a bike that's been around since 2019, built based on the same idea as the Orbea. Full power, yet light and quick handling. The Fezzari, now Ari Wire peak. Yup, the old Fezzari has a flip chip, too, and yes, the rear shock can be swapped for 150 mm with a 160 fork. I just can't see the true "future tech" here? 10 lbs of weight? Pick up a 10 lb dumb bell, and ask yourself, does this equal the cost difference? Reckon weight in gold...
Thanks Keev! I have been really enjoying. Shimano breaks the last 10 or so years. They have sponsored me a couple times over that period, but even when I wasn’t sponsored by them, I still kept running those brakes. For me they are the best combination of affordable easy to work on reliable and powerful.
Great review. You really think this bike sets a new standard? I've been watching a bunch of reviews and it just seems like more of the same now that everyone has good ebikes out now. I originally bought my Hydro Rise because it was a standout; better pedaling characteristics and, best of all, it looked the least like an ebike. But now, if I had to choose, and taking into consideration some of the quirks and issues I've had, I'll take a Levo SL or a Fuel eXe over the Rise any day. I was also kinda surprised by your comment that headset cable routing makes a bike more expensive. I just assumed that was a cost saving measure because you didn't have to add more holes or tubes to the mold to route them through the frame.
This new Rise has both double the power and double the battery of both the Levo SL and eXe… They told us the headset bearing gets so much bigger it’s an extra 300 euros for them… I don’t believe that number 100%, but I doubt it’s any cheaper for them. I wanted to raise my bars, but guess what… the hesdset routing meant taller bars would need new dropper, shifter, and brake lines. Ugh.
@@JeffKendallWeed Good point. I spend a majority of my time in Eco mode, so the power output never even crossed my mind! But I think I'll sacrifice the power to have normal cable routing 😆
No Shimano motor (or any other eMTB motor) has been horrifically rattly for me. The belt tension is something you can hear, but I don’t notice it while riding. It’s not super loud.
Unfortunately, I do not… It was a pretty brief day on the bike. It was also a size large and it was honestly a little bit big for me. Being so ridiculously slack was not a great experience. If I get a medium, I will consider doing a review.
@JeffKendallWeed yeah that head angle was the only thing making me hesitant on the bike, good to know on sizing since your about the same height as me. I work at a cannondale/trek/giant/salsa shop on the side so i can get a good price on one, just didnt know if it was worth selling my yt decoy for one, the 43 lbs full power bikes r tempting.. good to know the trend of the brands now is going that direction!
What? The carbon top tube squishes when you squeeze it with your fingers? That's ridiculous. I never understood why someone would want an ultra light trail bike. I don't mind a little extra weight if it means it's ultra strong/durable.
Did anyone ask the Orbea folks during the launch why they keep pushing bikes with headset cable routing? We all complain about it but we never really hear from the manufacturers why they choose to continue using that method when the consumers overwhelmingly dislike it.
It's odd that any bike just comes with stock 165mm cranks.. I feel like it should be S-155 M-160 L-165- XL-170. I ride 155 on a M but I would have been totally okay with 160 stock.. Apparently you need less reach and stack height but your legs don't get shorter lol..
I’d say Specialized is the brand they all are trying to keep up with, not Orbea. I personally have a Giant and still enjoy it, even at 46lbs…full power and battery. I never ride boost mode, just trail or echo since it’s plenty of boost.
Specialized?! With their Low power, low battery capacity? No way. Glad you’re enjoying your Giant, but if you’ve got that bike down to 46, a Rise would be about 8lbs lighter, same power and battery, and a huge benefit- MUCH shorter chain stays! 440mm on the rise, most Giant eMTB are 455- big difference. Jumping will be a LOT easier with the shorter stays!
Their customer service for warranty claims is notoriously poor, often dragging on for months. Communication is inconsistent, leaving customers frustrated. Expect to foot the bill for any warranty-related problems. Their assembly quality is subpar, with incorrect fasteners and sloppy linkages. Don't count on them knowing how to properly build bikes. Brace yourself for a slew of issues with this new bike, and good luck navigating them with their Spanish head office.😑
