- This is a complete workout designed by off-ice strength and conditioning coach Matthew Blair Davis, to increase a figure skater's jump power. Featured in this video are competitive South Atlantic region skaters Kit Albaugh and Jacey Albaugh. They skate at the Cabin John Ice Rink in Maryland, and are coached by Sarah Smith. Some great functional training stuff here. Although I'm not sure I agree that the certification to look for in an off-ice figure skating trainer is just an IYCA...I think I'd prefer someone with an advanced degree (MS or higher) who also has a recognized strength and conditioning cert, like an NSCA-CSCS, for example. The NSCA has a very strong and straight forward statement on youth strength training.
At the beginning these girls look so annoyed but trying to be happy
I will add a few of these to my daily routine and CD.
@figureprincess11 pilates is great for core conditioning, but these exercises will help skaters with their quickness, speed, and agility...pilates doesn't help you with that, and these aspects of sport conditioning are critical for top figure skating performance =)
OMG IS THIS FAIRFAX ICE ARENA?!! I SKATE HERE AND DO OFF ICE HERE!!!!
running uphill could avoid the use of a sled (i say that because of her arm movement while pulling it), but sometimes there's just no hill..
depending on the angle, it can forces the runner to get a proper acceleration technique.
love this training techniques
I have a couple of equipment questions. First in this video at the three minute area was working with a weight sled, the harness seemed to fit very nice and not dig in or move around, if that was the case I would like to know the brand and model just to see if I can still find one. And second in some of you other videos you used a weighted vest / bungee to the building and would like to know the model of equipment. They all seemed to work really well for all your skaters.
this is some good conditioning for kids
question do they do this everyday ? and how long is the total routine ?
Ya Jacey and Kit!
wow that gives me some flashbacks
nice workout moves kit! i know you!
That poor wall, really taking a hammering! aha great training though!
Looks like a lot of funnnnnn......and hard
i feel sorry for the wall :LL
These kids are so weak! And so skinny!
pistachiopigz That's the body type that will allow them to be able to do what they do. It's figure skating, not hockey. They're not out to tackle anyone.
