    A $8 portable paper trimmer/cutter is great to easily cut the films to size. Also, the Scotch reusable double sided tape goes for $6 on Amazon and works better than the adhesive. Super easy to use and remove. That's what I've tried after watching your videos and works great. 👍🏻

    Pro Tip: Use a sheet of wax paper. Better if you have the kind pre cut for burger patties but it’s the best thing to place an adhesive backed item on where it will keep it clean and sticky but the adhesive won’t “stick” to it. I’ve had to use it for sticky mounted phone cradles, cable stays, etc.

    For me I like using 1×6 guided sharpening stones, just remove stone holder from rod,set 1×6 stone grit down on table, set stone holder to top edge of stone,and use a large binder clip with 1" capacity over everything shim between top of clip and stone holder. You will be using the top half of the 1×6 stone but it is faster than lapping film and you get more useable coverage.
    The clip you can get at a office supply store. Its the one that folds over and the clip ends work as a handle.🤔🤔🤔🙄

    I have really struggled to get hold of the 3M feathering disc adhesive over here, but (after some trial and error!) found that the Bostik ‘Fast Tak’ works a charm for those in the UK (purchased on Amazon). I think any “repositionable” sprays will work, providing they are a more gentle adhesive.
    Thanks again for the amazing upgrade, it has consistently given me the mirror polished edges I’ve been lusting after, for a very small amount of money compared to the other systems out there!

    So I have the upgrade kit that goes up to 800 grit diamond plate with a diamond polishing stropping attachment. My question is im assuming that tge lapping films are gonna be much finer then the polish qnd strop so is there any need to strop the edge after the lapping films or would that just be taking a step backwards as it would seem the lapping films are far finer then any strop even when covered in polishing compound.

    • @benbeattie4609

      I got two packs and I’m still using the first after doing about a dozen knives in a variety of steels. The adhesive had started to lose it’s stick on the coarser micron films due to slurry/dust getting underneath them (the higher grits are still fine) - though I have now given them a spray with some Bostik “Fast Tak” repositionable adhesive spray and they’re almost as good as new!

  • @virgilisola5808
    @virgilisola5808 3 года назад

    I really like your Work Sharp Precision Adjust videos. I just purchased one. I have a couple questions.
    1. How much for your precut lapping plates?
    2. What are the grits provided?
    3. How many do you provide
    I have a more technical question too. I just received a Mora Garberg. It is my understanding that is that it is a Scandi grind and has a micro bevel. Mora says they add it to strengthen the edge and recommend keeping it. Could you demonstrate how to determine the angle of the micro bevel and how to sharpen it using the precision edge. Work Sharp instructions state that the micro bevel should be 2 to 3 degrees but how do you do this using the Precision Sharp when it only goes down to a 15 degree angle? Thanks I love your videos.

    • @Sweetknives
      @Sweetknives  3 года назад +2

      The cost for the grit packs are $9.99 for one of each lapping film, or $13.99 for two of each lapping film. Regarding your other question, I have several Mora knives and yes I should do a video on how to sharpen them. The short answer is they are an easy knife to maintain and a slightly harder knife to resharpen. For most people I recommend using a leather strop the first few times or ceramic rods and leather strops to maintain it, most of the time you can get it back to ultra sharp with doing just that. If you need to resharpen it completely, then you can follow my upcoming video on it. :) Its too hard to explain here.

    • @generaltbone17
      @generaltbone17 2 года назад

      Work sharp means 2 to three degrees higher then the rest of the edge angle. Say the blade is a 22 degree angle then you would make your micro bevel 24-25 degrees

    Thank you so much for this idea! I just got everything in and I'm having some trouble. Any tips for steels like S35VN? I feel like it's taking forever on each grit and it seems like no progress is being made. Just need more time on each grit? Trying to polish out a factory edge.

    • @Sweetknives
      @Sweetknives  3 года назад +1

      You are exactly right, spend much more time on the first stages with the diamond stones to establish a burr on one side. Once you establish a burr then continue with the same grit stone on the other side for a while until the burr changes to the other side. Once you have achieved that you can move on to the finer grits. This initial grinding could take 30 minutes on the coarsest grit.

      When I use my work sharp I use my free hand underneath the clamp with a knuckle on the base and three fingers holding the bottom on the knife. That way it doesn't allow any movement because it is cradled in your hand. I just reprofiled my CS Code 4 to 17 degrees and the edge looks completely professional. Whats the difference between a 600 grit sand paper vs the 600 grit lapping and so on?

    • @Sweetknives
      @Sweetknives  3 года назад +2

      Great question, the 600 grit sand paper is Silcone Carbide the lapping films are Aluminum Oxide in my video (they do make Diamond ones but those are spendy). The Aluminum Oxide produces a superior finish I think on various knife blades. So to sum it up, if you use 600 SC are on a blade and 600 Aluminum Oxide on another, you should get a slightly better finish on the blade with the Aluminum Oxide.

    Great video.
    I had forgotten to mention the psa films, I had assumed you had looked into them....proves the point of making assumptions....lol
    Are the films diamond, alumina oxide or silicon carbide?? I ask because 3m makes all three varieties. Once you look at the prices in sure you had same reaction I had several years ago....we as sharpeners were getting raped by prices.
    Example a certain manufacturer is selling 5 pieces of 4x1 films for $15 that's $3 per strip using that supplier I had told you about my cost breaks down to $.16 big difference.
    When the films load up you can clean them with a touch of rubbing alcohol. This gives you some extra life per strip. Also the adhesive will most likely begin to weaken, you can use the 3m adhesive you had used previously or try some of their spray adhesive such as super 77 spray a bit on film..spread with finger and let sit few min. Will begin to have the tacky feeling. Only shortcoming with this is you will need clean the ceramic stone to remove adhesive.
    Keep up the great content.

    • @Sweetknives
      @Sweetknives  3 года назад

      The ones I am using in this video are from 3M and are Aluminum Oxide. I do have access to the Diamond ones but for the cost its outrageous. Feel free to email me if you are able to get discounts from your supplier. :)

      @@Sweetknives it's the same supplier I had told you about earlier....rs hughes you will need buy a case...but when you look at the prices being charged it's still a huge savings....especially if your running a sharpening service.
      Years back the company I worked for was a licensed 3m converter and distributor.
      When they sold out and I had my accident I lost my connection so I contacted my old 3m rep and he put me in contact with mentioned company.
      I know there is some initial sticker shock with prices....but once you do the math you will see what I have been saying for years.
      I normally buy 9x11 sheets and cut down to various sizes either 4x1, 6x1 etc depending on what system I'm using.

    • @Sweetknives
      @Sweetknives  3 года назад

      @@fldiverjc4496Thanks for the info, yea, WickedEdge did the math and they charge $30 for 10 or so strips of the lapping film. The problem is the average person is not sharpening very many knives but then again its good to know various options out there. Thanks.

    • @fldiverjc4496
      @fldiverjc4496 3 года назад

      @@Sweetknives very true, but the average knife guy also isn't in the market for lapping films either....lol
      When you factor in the longevity of each strip....even if your the average user it still makes sense. One case could theoretically last you several years or longer.
      I know how I look at things can be slightly warped...lol
      It's not just wicked edge raping customers over the films....they all do. Look at kme or even jende the prices are ridiculously high....
      I had justed wanted to share via my experience over the years. If I can save guys money that's great.. but at least try to get the info out there...then maybe said companies will realize the cats out of the bag so to speak and bring their prices to a more realistic level. I fully understand that business is business...but those prices are hidious at best.
      When you can pay roughly sixteen cents per strip as opposed to three dollars the mark up is retarded

    I want one of those worksharp systems. I also want the belt sharpening system from Worksharp. I will use the Worksharp knife and tool sharpener for bigger things like mower blades , axes hatchets and machetes.

    Just buy a wicked edge, with this you are constantly flipping the knife over and over cutting and pasting like it’s arts and crafts. Wicked edge pro cost twice the deluxe model but is well worth it. My 2 cents

      A lot of folks cant afford the Wicked Edge so this is a great option for those folks. If you are able to spend a little more and want more of a professional sharpener, yes, the Wicked Edge will work great.

    Worksharp definitely needs a profile grinding stone for this system .
    Their diamond 320 will reprofile powder steel but don't expect more than two knives worth out of them.
    But thats not their purpose I get it ..For basic sharpening they work fine.
    I'm also noticing their 600 grit don't last long at all .. The dust came off very fast on mine.
    That said with a simple bit of rigging you can use their sharpener to reprofile blades esp non powder steel. . 1095HC and others will work awesome on this tool.
    Watch for the "heavy duty" version soon just like the Ken Onion... It will have everything this one should of had but also strange design flaws???😏
    These guys are the nintendo of the sharpener world and are hooking in users while giving them the next best thing in slow drips.
    I freaking hate companies that do this cause they are purposefully dumbing down their product just enough to need updates which they say is through customer feedback...BULLCRAP.
    I used mine for 10 minutes and instantly could see where things need improved . .. NO WAY their design guys miss this crap.
    Oh well that's the free market for ya and I bought one just like the other ones 🤪 Just seeing a pattern here.
