- Wise Coatings brought in more than $100,000 in revenue within the first four months after it opened in 2021. How did this epoxy garage floor business grow so quickly? Founder Brandon Vaughn shares the answer in this interview!
Brandon has built something extraordinary at Wise Coating, and you could become his partner! He is offering UpFlip viewers an exclusive discount on the start-up fees! Learn more about this great opportunity by visiting this link: bit.ly/WiseUpflip
Brandon had some experience with growing a business before he started Wise Coatings. He grew his previous service business to 70 employees in six seasons, an experience that taught him the importance of systems, hiring, and marketing. He put that expertise to use when he started his new epoxy flooring business, quickly scaling it to nearly $500,000 a month in revenue with profit margins up to 25%, a very impressive return on his $45,000 start-up investment.
It may be hard to believe from those numbers, but Brandon actually started Wise Coatings as an experiment. He wanted to show that it was possible to grow a business without spending any time in the field or answering sales calls. Instead, he focused on building scalable systems and perfecting his marketing. His experiment has proven to be a resounding success, though not without its bumps along the way.
He’ll share the biggest challenges he faced growing Wise Coatings, along with how he overcame those difficulties in this interview. You’ll hear what worked well too, of course, including the must-have systems for an epoxy business and how he built the phenomenal team that’s let him focus on growing the business rather than spending all his time at job sites.
This video isn’t just for folks who want to start an epoxy floor business. Anyone who wants to start or scale a service business will learn a lot from how Brandon developed his systems and brings in customers.

What’s the company for the vehicles leasing?
What about a portable toilet hire company next or skip/ garage trailer rental
Eetou❤he❤❤e😂o❤🎉
It's worth adding he owns an expensive coaching company that can fund any short comings. I'm sure no one was missing a meal during the super hard "start up time"... not taking anything away but when you have the network and connections he does and the sales pitch matched with the cash flow to go heavy, anything is possible. This isn't a start at the bottom success story.
Thank you for the reality check. Truly a very helpful comment.
And he woke up one day and magically had said successful coaching company? Or maybe he was born with said company like an appendage?
Stop being so small minded and taking away accomplishments. He was successful in that endeavor, and that experience carried over into his new venture 🙄
@LSA chronicles He makes more from coaching/mastermind stuff than the business was the lesson here. If you haven't attended some of his events then you wouldn't know. Nothing wrong with the hustle, just wanting to point out his did not start the coating business bootstrapping and grinding it out. He bank rolled the concept from 0-100 overnight with his major network of other deep pocketed business owners and connections made where?? Through the conquer group. Again, not saying he isn't successful, just saying he wasn't in the trenches eating Ramen while starting wise coatings. It launched as a successful, funded venture.
Success is easy when you have thousands paying you $800-1000+ per month to be in your mastermind groups. It's hard to fail when you have the cash flow and network of people to implement an idea full-bore from the jump. You drastically diminish any struggle season getting the money flowing. It's no different opening additional locations of a successful franchise vs. Grinding it out for a lifetime with a small mom and pop shop. If you got the coin to get yourself a coating business, get after it. Your videos about your journey would be great to see from someone starting actually from scratch.
So what’s the takeaway here, skill compounds & leverage is gained by having a crack & doing the work to build these businesses. Even if it is true that he had cash backups, nobody can gift you the skillsets that it takes to run & automate a successful business, he obviously has all of the skillsets so i think it makes no difference if you focus on that
I appreciate his vision. From experience you can have access to alot of finance but lack the vision or know-how. His vision grew in his apprenticeship, yes it was his dad but anyone can go out and learn. The man is a success story and he has inspired me who lives in NIGERIA. His vision and application for marketing/branding wasn't inherited. I wish to build something like Brandon or better. I come in peace in the name of Christ Jesus 🙏❤️
Guys, let me tell you. I just learned more about business than in the last 100h of business, coaches, mentors or any other video that I have watched. I'm in a completely different business, machine manufacturing, but that was so good to see. It was direct, no hiding, no drama, and done. I'm almost buying a wise coatings franchise to improve my actual business process and governance. Congratulations for you both, Uplift and Wise Coatings.
Machine manufacturing, making automated machines?
Have only watched 2 videos from UpFlip. The other video was Laundry Genuis. Lessons so far which both of them uses are:
1) Systems, tracking and creating systems
2) Outsourcing, they outsource payment systems etc so they can focus on what matters most
3) Partnering with Distributors, both of them work with their distributors very closely. ie financing washing machines or renting out machines
4) Hands off, as owners of a franchise, you need to go hands off and leave it to a trusted manager so that you can focus on expanding the business
You think this guy was hands off? He seemed pretty involved in the process. Even paid $2000.00 on a course to learn how to apply the product to the floor.
In a service based industry, you got to be hands on, otherwise your business is not going to excel. Once you built up a good enough working model, and can begin to expand, that's when you can remove yourself from the frontline operations.
But until then, you got to get dirty with everyone.
@@LynxStarAuto Very true my friend
There’s a lot of very key points here, mostly to always plan for a larger business than a home garage. I love that he knew nothing about the business but decided it was a 100% commitment regardless. That’s the right approach for success.
So true Behe. Commitment can take someone very far. 😀Thank you for watching and commenting. Would you ever start a business in this industry?
He's rich as hell with decades of experience and nothing to lose by throwing money into new business ventures.
So true. Especially in the service industry. You have to be hands on, otherwise, the business will flounder.
Started his own for $15k. But wants between $114,000-$133,000 to franchise with him. Hum!!! I think I’ll start my own.
You are right, to be a successful person in life require him or her of hard work and time
Talking about been successful. I know I am blessed if not I wouldn't have met someone is as spectacular as Anna S Wilson
Yes I'm a living testimony of Anna S Wilson, her platform has also done a great thing for me
She is legit and her method works like magic I keep on earning every single week with her new strategy
She made it more easier even when I thought it's difficult
Thank you Paul and UpFlip crew for letting us host your visit!! I had a blast spending the day with you 💪🏽 Keep making life changing content!! 🔥
I did too and thank you for blessings the channel with your presence and knowledge.
One thing that I do not think is mentioned in the video is competition. Are there other companies in your area that are doing the same thing? If so, how do you separate yourselves from them?
@@ransomharrist5119if you are running a business correctly, you won't have much time to worry about the competition. 🤷♂️ there is always going to be competition. You can't epoxy every garage floor in the world. You build a service and product, and you market to the customer that wants to pay for said service and product. Leave the rest for the others to worry about.
It's like he said about appearance and professionalism. If you show up in beat up van, writing estimates on a napkin, you are only going to collect what image you portray. He gave a ton of insight into the smallish details he uses to draw in high dollar RO's and how he follows them up once the repair is done.
Details, details, details.
Hey I really wanted to know, do you usually tell the customer they need to clean out their garage? Or do you clean out the garage before starting the job?
This guy created a real premium brand. He's uppdated with all the technology and automated as much as he could. Really smart to get with the times if you open a business and use all of the resources you can use.
4:30 pause. He first got the leads, sold the jobs, and thennn they worried about rental equipment etc. thats a key take away for ya'll who do it the other way around. I see tons of start ups that have all the flashy bells and whistles before having any clients lmao. just remember this as a key takeaway. brilliant point .
But, didn't know how to do it at that point which is fake it til you make it false advertising 🤔 Totally all in and this is amazing, but I'm starting my own now, and I wouldn't market with photos until they're MINE. Maybe I'm wrong, but 5k in marketing then training is how I heard it.
Brandon Vaughn is the truth. Met him at a pressure washing convention were he spoke. Top Dog and Humble. BTW : what was it that finally removed that difficult flooring?
As a small business owner, I was a bit demotivated and thinking about wrapping up. You've not only motivated me to continue, but to instead do some expansion. Much thanks for sharing this.
Our hearts are full, knowing we can touch lives with our videos! Hope you take these powerful lessons with you and apply them. Cheers to your success! 🔥
@@UpFlip thanks again; I fully intend to!
1 Year on and still teaching old dogs new tricks - I learnt so much from this, what an incredible guy and team - thank you for sharing so much incite and I wish you all the best success which I'm absolutely sure will follow you. Outstanding !!
I did this a year they paid me 200 a day but at times grinding three floors by hand on a resort in Miami is no joke it takes the life out you
I'm in Miami myself. 200 a day is decent pay out here.
Geez, every system Brandon teaches in his ags conquer program he uses in his own brand. He's a genius. Automate. Grow. Sell.
The podcast with this guy was definitely a great listen
Ive been following brandon for years when i first started my pressure washing company... I am now looking to expand my horizons and am "floored" to hear hes doing this as I've stumbled on this video by chance and know him.
How long have you been pressure washing?
@@sladewagemann9778 for about 7 years now.
Great video. Tons of great info in here if youre starting youre own business
Wow I am so in love with this type of epoxy application I work for a company here in Jamaica but we only stick to one type of application wish I was with this company to expand my talent great job guys
Fantastic video. Great questions and great flow! Thanks so much.
This is wonderful to hear Derek. Thanks, 😀 It's our pleasure. What type of other content would you like to see featured on the channel?
This is a absolutely fantastic video. Marketing marketing marketing is absolutely crucial to the success of a business. As a business owner I learned a lot about marketing in my first year taking the long hard road. I went nearly broke trying to save money on marketing. Once I said ok it’s do or die for this business poured basically the rest of the business’s money into marketing out workload absolutely went thru the roof. Very interesting to hear how hard these guys favor facebook for marketing. We run very heavy on google ads. I may have to open up a new marketing ad on Facebook now and see what type of feedback I get out of that.
Once again really awesome video, thank you for putting this out there. First video of yours I’ve seen. Don’t worry I hit the like and subscribe lol. Keep putting this information out there. There are a lot of small business owners that could learn a ton from this video alone.
This video makes me more to start my own business thx 🙏 🙏🙏
These floors barely scratch the surface of what a creative person could do with epoxy.
I could do floors that would blow your mind.
Wow, very well produced video. Great content
This is truly an amazing interview!! One of the best I have watched in a very long time.
We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the interview! Thanks for watching.
This was great, loved the automation and high level ownership vs operations
We appreciate that UnicornSprinkles. 😀👍We're happy you enjoyed the video. What type of company do you want to see featured on the channel next?
Such a good channel, you guys get into great detail.
We love hearing things like this Andre. 😀💖Thank you very much. We want to provide as much detail as possible in our videos. Please let us know what type of other businesses you'd like to see featured on the channel?
Thank you for sharing guys. All the best WISE
Holy shit, this dude is an absolute monster. Evaporating the competition
Really love these videos! I seriously wish you guys would do an automatic car wash like someone who started a Tommys franchise or any franchise really. That would be so cool!! I’d love to see one of those. The self serve ones are neat but those automatic tunnels are just awesome
Great suggestion, Andy! I'll make note of that and we will interview if we find something interesting. Feel free to send any businesses you'd like to see on the channel!
@@UpFlip awesome!!
haha that would be cool I've worked at Quick Quack Car wash for 26 months now and I can tell you there's a lot to it but as a worker the wash packages are gimmicks always go with the cheapest wash and stick to lighter paint colors when going through one ;)
Check out dreams eco express car washes in Calgary Alberta. They are doing some awesome stuff.@@UpFlip
This channel is addictive😅. Away better than those tv shows
This helps with confidence so much. I’m just starting my epoxy flooring business! I hope and pray I’m as successful as this. This was so helpful! Thanks
Good luck, Max! We hope you are just as successful. When did you start?

Great video with enormous amount of information. Okay, I am very observant. How were the technicians able to sand and coat the flooring under the toolboxes on the back wall?
they didnt,xD
Use a steamer on the floor to remove the paper from the wood . Hardware stores sell them
Can or do you recycle ♻️ the dust from grinding? 🤔 could you reuse it to make concrete?

This is awesome, almost like the rocky success story of a business. I will have to look into this.
Thank you for your feedback! We encourage you to further explore the topic and delve into the details. Happy watching!
Well done. This kind of volume is almost unheard of in the garage floor side of our industry.
It's awesome to see! How long have you been in the industry?
this literally shows that money isn't the only thing to get things going, yet a vision truly plays a huge role. Franchise is absolutely helpful as it builds wealth more effectively long term. Sadly, few people are into it due to lack of knowledge and poor mindset. Also, when it comes to business foundation, a system is the very first thing one needs to consider wisely. When it's already there, everything else will just flow smoothly. Am I right here?
What did you use for the inventory qr scanner?
Nice lessons from a fellow entrepreneur ✅✅😃😃👍👍
How do you find the correct product to use? There are so many and I don't know which to use

Who did he use for the vehicle branding and leasing?
Does anybody have an answer to that?
I am a small coating company in Pennsylvania. I use moisture vapor barrier epoxy as my standard basecoat. How does your polyaspartic basecoat hold up to possible moisture?
Let's be honest, we know this product doesn't hold up. No vapor barrier, no top coat, and the flood coat looks razor thin
Dici il Vero! Ma se no era presente umidità di risalita, la barriera vapore non è indispensabile.
@@ThomasGerlach4Tri Just curious so youre saying polyaspartic coating is trash? If so then sounds like someones going to be in a world of hurt in few years with their lifetime warranty.

Dunzo handles the automations but which company is it connected with that actually sends the gift cards and brownies?
Great video. Anyone got a dunzo link to learn more about their system?
Its in the description ;)
Its a great business. No need for all the marketing fluff in my area in order to really scale up though this is the way!
Which area are you in?
14:13 what lease company are they using that includes the wrap?
IS it possible to do epoxy floor during the winter? If someone can answered me, Im from Canada,
Quebec. Thanks
Less about the temperature, more about moisture
In my experience of doing epoxy, I always let the concrete breathe, repair/seal cracks and always! Always! Do moisture test. There is no way, that concrete is ready for epoxy on a rainy day like that, humidity is too high. It can lead to epoxy foaming or an exothermic reaction. Way to go on grinding the right profile. Hopefully, it holds up.
Just want to make it clear for the guys thinking of starting in this business. Typically, it's never 1 day unless it has 0 cracks or holes and is dry.
My husband and I have a business and we are adding this service. This video is very encouraging !!! And John Don is awesome! We took a few classes there recently for epoxy flooring and counter tops.
