I'm not usually very good at isometric combat but never once in this game did I feel the difficulty was unfair. So surprised you raised that as an issue.
So I love top down hack and slash games but deaths door is $22 cdn on Steam for me. Is it challenging? Long? Worth a buy at full price or wait for a sale?
I would recommend it at full price. I just finished the game today and the difficulty was just right, until the last hour or two where things spiked pretty considerably, but nothing too crazy. I rolled credits at just over 10 hours, but I played on a base Xbox so my loading times after dying (especially at the end) added an hour at most. Expect a quality 8-10 hours (15-20 for completionists), and a solid challenge.
If you think the upgrades don't matter, try playing without them. I did and it becomes so hard to dodge, your weapons have terrible range and power. Magic is nearly useless. I thought the umbrella achievement was easier than my skip upgrades playthrough. I also enjoyed not having a map for some reason. Felt like playing NES again.
@@otromae I wouldn't say struggling, just slow. I still haven't got one for that reason and because they're still low in stock (or being scalped). That being said, we already know God of War 5 and Horizon Forbidden West are coming. And the ps4 did take a while to stack up its exclusives.
With a name like deaths door it better have some over challenging spots. As long as the tough parts aren't as bad as the later levels of the game Below.
Alright, first of all, this game is nothing like Zelda. It has combat, but that doesn't make it like Zelda any more than it makes it like Spyro, especially with how the combat is specifically. It has dungeons, but so does Diablo. It has three items. Three. The lack of a map is made to encourage exploration instead of looking at a map and mindlessly following a dotted line, it makes the world far more engaging. The difficulty curve is super smooth, and it never gets too hard to handle, nor does it ever get so hard that you need to throw yourself into the line of fire over and over unless you're not learning the game properly. Last, play the game again without upgrades and tell me the upgrades are granular. They're super tangible, especially compared to other games that have similar leveling systems.
@@solarpellets ok, thanks. I'm really considering this game. The Zelda comparison was a turn off. I can't decide between switch and ps5 version. I'm thinking switch for portability. Looks like a great game.
This is the only game i can honestly say is 100% fair at combat with the single exception of 1 rolling attack that 2 bosses use and its pretty much RNG to avoid.
Actually, there are visual cues for all enemies to see how much health they still have. They get more pink/red cracks in their body. Just finished the game, thought it was a great choice because you never know exactly when you'll deal the final blow.
@@minkschellingerhout3157 I played the first few bosses and I didn't notice that (not saying you're wrong). I found it extremely boring blindly slashing away, not knowing when the end was coming.
Funny thing about opinions, is that there are different ones than yours. I personally disagree with every point you've written, but that's fine, because I can pay and play, and you can keep your money without issue. So simple, it seems stupid!
I really appreciate that you shared this, bc i have been very annoyed w reviewers since Biomutant this Spring. This game is a great example of how they praise one game for doing something and shame another for doing the exact same thing with no difference in quality. I also think that there is a love affair w Nintendo w many gamers where they over romanticize their content. Looking at BOTW!

@@HU-iv1ns you will love it.
I can forgive that it doesn't have a map. The fact that this was made by 2 dev's is damn right amazing.

Apparently, it's about 16 hr. long (from howlongtobeat.com).

This game reminded me more of dark souls instead of Zelda but I agree.

No health bar for the bosses! Why does no one talk about this? It's not a feature, it's lazy development.
