G Toyadha Tagya B I personally like the more visceral lightsaber duels in the sequels. I don't usually need fight choreography to be so complicated to feel the emotion in it,and that's usually what I care about most. The complicated choreography sometimes takes away from what the characters are feeling. That said, the choreography was amazing, I just didn't personally like it. But also, i can understand that these were two jedi's who'd been trained extensively, so I can understand why their fight choreography would be more complicated.

Hi Heylel, I've rediscovered SW thanks to my son, had a arm injury and told to weald a baseball bat or similar, thought a sabre would be cooler, watched some tutorials and had no idea what was going on. Stumbled upon this one, your a great teacher, well explained and a nice pace with many repeats and angles. Notice you've not done much new content I suspect due to some comments. You're getting a lot of views, over 15T and I'm sure the few are annoying and upsetting, in reality 14T say nothing and most of those who do are nice. You're a great teacher, maybe you are a real teacher (i.e. we'd call it junior school in the uk 4-11 year olds) or perhaps you should consider it!, and running something like this would be a great differentiator. Ignore the idiots and please do some more. Best wishes.
I've watched so many videos trying to understand the obi ani since I just got my first saber! Yours has been by far the most helpful though. I was having so much trouble with it until your video! slowing it down to .5 speed also helped a lot until I got the movements.
Alright. I've been seeing a bunch of videos on this move, and NONE of them have been helpful until now. The Sword's Path version was nearly there, but I just couldn't figure it out. This helped me so much! I'm not positive I am doing exactly the way it's supposed to be done, but if I'm not, I suppose I made a new form of the spin, and that's good enough for me!
Nice, this was actually easier to watch than some other tutorials for some reason, I'm still working on it, but I think I can get the hang of it now. A couple things I would like to point out for new viewers, spend extra time working on front and back spins, get your arm(s) and wrist(s) used to the motion it makes. Find out how far you need to be from your body so you don't hit yourself. Think of it as a real light saber and if you hit yourself, you lose a limb (or worse :P). Getting this down will not only help you with the ObiAni and Lotus, but if you do any other kind of fancy moves, you won't have to think about it. I still have a bit of trouble with a back spin and need to practice more with that myself, it's just because it feels unnatural. Second, I don't recommend curved hilt sabers. I personally own the Ultrasabers Mantis and it can get away from you because the bent hilt throws off the center of balance. It's not impossible to do and I've seen it done, but it makes it much harder to wield it with these moves because the end of the hilt could twist in your hand and throw the whole thing of center. Also the way the Mantis is designed, the center of mass when you hold it in your hand (the choke point) puts it on a collar that isn't very comfortable to hold. Other curved hilts don't have this issue, but they're still not the best for these types of orbits. If you find yourself having a difficult time wielding your saber, get yourself some nice leather gloves. I use them in our cutlass training (pirates, woo!) and it makes a big difference both in how much stress you put on your hands and fingers AND gives you a much better grip. Don't skimp on the cost either, fake leather will wear out quickly and some use materials that actually cause it to slip more than regular leather.
i have a crimson scorpion myself and i love it. it is a beast though. Love the tutorial, very well done. i was doing the Obi-Ani but just learned the lotus with you. Thanks! i subscribe!
Been a long time since you did a vid. That was a really good tutorial with some different perspectives that you don't get in other tutorials. You should do some more considering the fact you got over half a million views on this one.
When doing that with dual lightsabers, it would look cool if you held one of them the other way round, so when spinning them around, if you go fast enough, you'll create what looks like a ball of light or a shield around you. Well done for learning that. All great Jedi Masters were once just aprentices, even Yoda. ;)
I finally got the lotus down.. I couldn't figure out what was going wrong, I picked up the obi ani pretty quickly but couldn't seem to add the lotus step. I finally realized that it was my sway timing. I was swaying back immediately after the obi ani, but you have to stay facing that direction to complete the backspins or else it won't work. Once I figured that out I had it mastered in minutes. Thanks for this video! Also if anyone is wondering why it's called the obi ani, I went looking for this move in their fight scene on the lava planet. There is a point where they are facing each other and they both do this move simultaneously as if mirroring each other. Look up (HD) Anakin Skywalker vs Obi Wan Kenobi, it is at exactly 3 minutes of this video.
I figured out how to do this as a child when I watched Episode 3. I literally tried this for almost two weeks after the movie until I did it right. Also I think it's really rare to see a woman who is into Star Wars like this. Also it must be pretty easy for her to start a conversation. Just show this as a woman to a random guy and he would probably talk nonstop to you for hours.
Very nice. Thank you for the video. Love to see more for sure. I had the obi ani going good but the next part was a tad more complicated for me. Almost got it now. :) Thanks again.
Thank you for your tutorial! It was incredibly helpful and I was definitely overthinking it. Now, I’ll be practicing to make it smooth. I am 6’0” and it helped me to switch to a shorter blade for now to get the moves down and not hit my ceiling. This is just another tall girl problem I’ve encountered. 😂 I may have to switch to outside in the future as my ceilings aren’t vaulted and I’m guessing 8’0”. I can almost touch them without anything in my hand. Great job representing female SW fans, as there are plenty and we also love wielding a saber. This will make my Jedi cosplay look even more authentic when I become confident in my obi ani and lotus.
Did you ever figure out the Obi-Anix2? If not, find out where it begins and where it ends. Then, in one hand start where Obi-Ani where it begins, and in the other hand start where Obi-Ani ends. When doing it this way you have to twist your body a lot more to both sides of your body as you're doing the Obi-Ani on both sides. And DON'T go slow in the beginning. Use the weight of the sabers and move with enough speed in order to feel the flow. It's going to feel like patting your head, rubbing your stomach, and hopping on one leg, while reading a book, chewing bubble, learning a new language on CD, and having a conversation in sign language. Complicated, but possible.
I’ve found it really easy to try the obi ani in your left hand before doing it with both until it’s instinctive. Then you can do it in both hands. It’s harder to do both at the same time so I do it with a bit of space between them. So you’re doing the obi ani’s with one just a moment behind the other. I personally think it looks cooler and is much easier to do
I'm literally stuck on the behind the back part. I didn't realize it flipped to the reverse spin at that point. I've watched like 5 tutorials on this, but yours gives me good of mastering this.
Fantastic job - the producer in me though is in pain. Next time take a moment to think about your background noise. You really are an excellent teacher for other Jedi. It was clear and well done. Loved the advice. The Force is strong with you. Lightsaber lesson = A+ Production = C-
You could probably make one with a huge police-style flashlight and batteries, wires, LED strips, and a soldering iron. But the problem may be finding clear plastic tubes to cover the "blade" assembly.
For double sabers, it’s easier for me to establish a “lead saber” and a follower - and alternate between the two, with the front hip leading the lead saber. And once I’ve got that down, trying to do at the same time (like the butterfly in poi).
This is a amazing quality! Imagine a girlfriend that loved star wars too! Hey! Goodjob! The flow is very nice
Hi great tutorial..what is the light sabre please..possibly a link? thanks in advance
This might sound dumb but is this possible with the Kylo Ren saber
It's possible but the cross saber hilt is super bulky, it's going to be harder to achieve the smooth motion.
Yes, very much so. You just need a firmer grip than normal to ensure the handle doesn't twist in your hand.
ok thanks :)
No.
Because its not real ;)
yes, i believe the 'unsheath' motion is what kylo uses a lot of the time as an opening move
This helped instantly, I can easily do it now, thanks so much
This is a amazing quality! Imagine a girlfriend that loved star wars too! Then you find out she's got a bb8 and saber collection with the movie like Jager wan Kenobi lol I get to behind the back and then taking it to the front it's just like I'm pulling it out from hiding it lol I'm trying in the mirror and look ridiculous. I'm going practice. You make it look easy!
This is so cool. I want to get into lightsaber combat now
The first technique is a basic technique that fire knife dancers do. Im a star wars nerd and i fire knife dance. I would put on a show for my nephews and their friends with my crimson light saber.
What’s your preferred sabre? From what maker? Which one provides the nicest light
I developed a dual obiani kata back in 2006. In this flourish, I hold one of the sabers in a reverse grip. Try it out.
Very nice tutorial, thank you alot ! I have a question, what hilt it's better for spinning, two handed hilt or one handed ?
what blade length on the Fulcrum? Great video tutorial.
PSUdoctor333 32 inch
Love the dubstep lightsaber
Much to learn, you still have, young padawan.

I finally got the gist of this trick with your video! thanks!
