Wait, let me get this straight. So this is a game about A HUMAN-EATING SHARK, and there is not one single Jaws reference. I don’t know if I should oe proud or disappointed of the developers.
There is! One example is when you are being hunted, a hunter can be herd saying: “I shoulda brought ma Fish Finder” this is a clear reference to what Hooper uses to first find jaws! That has got to be on hell of a reference!
The Kaiju Rift is a direct reference to Pacific Rim, where the Kaiju come through a rift in the ocean floor and they have to destroy it to save the world. And Gazorpazorp is an alien race in Rick and Morty
i think its more of an amalgimation of things, Godzilla always come out of the ozean, the rift is underwater and glows and there is a cthulhu face on there too.
8:34 This in fact is double reference: the base and kelps around look like in Subnautica, and Nehru jacket with Persian cat is a reference to James Bond.
Federal Bureau of investigation the healthy human mind doesn’t wake up in the morning think it’s your last day on earth but on a suicide mission I think of it as a luxury not a curse
10:20 actually is a reference to the colossus of rhodes, one of the ancient seven wonders of the world. If you check there's a pantheon, a mausoleum, a pyramid, even a replica of the zeus statue in olimpia.
I was hoping for a Friday the 13th easter egg where you could find Jason Voorhees under the water in chains. *And I don't know why I was hoping.* Still, great video!
8:30 could also be a reference to the James Bond film The Spy Who Loves Me, judging by the final line of narration, in TSWLM, the villain builds "an underwater city", but it definitely looks more like Subnautica.
I'm quite sad no one got the reference from the subnatica egg with a button up jacket and a Persian cat it's a shark game give him a freaking laser beam
Hey Captain, I have an Easter egg for you in “Generation Zero” idk if you’ve covered this one but there’s another Dark Souls reference with a hunting rifle in a campfire (instead of a sword) on the side of an island. (I can provide the game clip if you want it )
I think the misaligned stone henge is in reference to spinal tap when they were making a set but wrote the wrong dimension they put 5 foot something when it was supposed to be the other way around
It wouldn't be an undergame without Chtulu being referenced in it. And Subnatica being referenced as well is so cool to see. That game has come so far.
There are references/puns in side mission names as well. For instance one of the side missions where you have to kill one of the hunted makos is called "Uh-Oh better get Mako". Which is a reference to the slogan of the "MAACO" auto body shop chain in the US.
The Too Literal Easter egg with a plug in the ground, I think that could be reference to the spongebob episode when spongebob and patrick find the "drain plug" and if pulled, it drains the ocean
I am surprised you only mentioned the character lineup Easter Egg from Killing Floor. There's several Horzine signs throughout the worlds (mostly underwater). Horzine is the company that caused the Zed outbreak in the Killing Floor universe
8:09 I’m pretty sure that’s also a reference to spongebob. In one episode mr.krabs tells them about the main drain which is a giant pop-up drain in the middle of the ocean that when pulled sucks the entire ocean in
You forgot to add that sometimes, when you are attacking people, the other NPCs running say, "WHERE IS MY SHARK SPRAY" which is a reference to the first trilogy of batman
I swear there’s a metal gear rising reference in this my friend sent me a picture of him playing it and it said “Come at me insectoids! I’ve just eaten a whole tube of nano-silver toothpaste! I’m f****** invincible!” But maybe not idk tho
There was also a Waterworld reference. You run into the famous Trimaran that Kevin Costner’s character called home only to find it at the bottom of the sea, I believe it’s one of the landmarks and upon discovering it the announcer guy claims that it sunk to sea while trying to find a mythological “Dryland” clear Waterworld reference.
5:00 It's a reference to the original Ocean's 11 from 1960 with the Rat Pack (Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra); the George Clooney, Brad Pitt Ocean's 11 is a remake. In the original they drive their truck off a bridge and the movie ends with everyone comically standing around in the slowly sinking car going "What do we do now?" before cutting to the credits.
Hey Man, just saying that when you find the space ship, at 9:46, its actually a reference to rick and morty as the narrator mentions a planet called gazorpazon where Morty on an episode has a gazorpazonian child with a sex robot.
9:50 That's a Rick and Morty reference. I'm sure you know this but the Narrator in the game (Chris Parnell) is the same voice actor for Jerry in Rick and Morty.
@08:37 Nehru jacket + Persian cat suggests Blofeld. Although in the Bond films it was Stromberg who had the underwater base. BUT, in the same film (The Spy Who Loved Me) there is a character known as Jaws. Jaws is a film about a larger-than-normal shark. What else is a larger-than-normal animal? That's right, Big Bird.
You can find a building owned by Horzine, the company responsible for creating the Zeds (zombies) in Tripwire’s other game Killing Floor. It has a big logo on the side and everything
10:25 It's not the Statue of Liberty, it's the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. The other 6 wonders can be found around it nearby.
Another node to another Tripwire game is the Horzine building. You can sport it with the giant logo on it. Horzine being the company found in the Killing Floor universe
5-25-20 Here is my list of references I want in this game. Sharknado: I have watch the entire series. It is campy as frick and I love it. It really feels like an 80s or 90s disaster movie. It is perfect as it really matches the 1980's to 1990's crazy disaster movie feel to it. Silly one liners and all. Spoiler for one of the lines in the first movie: One of the characters says that, "My mom always told me Hollywood would kill me," and then got crushed by one of the Hollywood Sign's letters not 1 minute later. Sharks in tornadoes. That's what Sharknado means. They need to add a chainsaw and a bomb which would reference the weapons of choice of our protagonists. They used chainsaws to cut, gut, slice, and dice the Sharks and bombs to destabilize the tornado to stop it. Jaws: They need to sink the Orca and, in the description, reference the famous quote. You know what quote it would be. Finding Nemo: They need the boat where the sharks were in the deep sea. Maybe reference Sydney Lost: The infamous hatch door with its name being the numbers, basically the Macguffin of the plot for those who haven't watched it.
@@rjtp2552 Yeah. They feel like they could be made in the era pre-9/11. One of 9/11's victims was the disaster movie. Like the alien disaster movie. Compare the original Independence Day to the recent War of the Worlds by Spielberg.
It was actually the colossus of Rhoades, all around it are the other 6 ancient wonders being the Pyramids, the Mausoleum at Halicarnass, the great Lighthouse of Alexandria, and the temple of Artemis
The subnautica reference is also a James Bond reference to a villain in i forget witch movie but he had a grey or black suit and a Persian cat he was always petting
I figured that since the landmark title is “Too Literal” that it was in reference to Donald Trump always yelling about “draining the swamp” during his 2016 campaign.

There is a really cool easter egg I found, though not referencing another media. I do have to give an ENDGAME SPOILER WARNING for this, so don't be angry. If you swim to the spot where you had the final battle against Scaly Pete, after said battle has concluded and you finish the storyline, you can actually find the shipwrecked remains of his refurbished WW2 boat he fought you in, and subsequently blew up.
9:33 "If a T-Rex is your favorite dinosaur then you're boring and unoriginal, and you need to pick a different favorite dinosaur" Jajajajajajajaja the Yankees 🇺🇸 got roasted!! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😁😁 PD: Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus rules!!😼😎
7:15 that Easter egg is actually sorta a reference to the actual story since one of the cults meetings takes place in a swamp around a statue of cthulu
There's boat near the edge of the final location you finish with a large ship called the Queen Beryl or Beril, not sure which, which is a reference to Sailor Moon.
There was one thing that that do when his arm got bit off he captured a great white shark so that was a nice trick so I'm saying what if we are using a great white shark or a basking shark or a lemon shark may never know
A lot of people are going on about how Maneater, a shark game, lacks any Jaws references, although I feel like this is slightly incorrect, in that the Elder stage the Shark gets a scar on the side of its face, which it got when Scaly Pete has the shark set on fire and which sets part of the boat on fire, which resulted in it exploding. Although, this could be just simply a similarity, but in Jaws 2 the shark attacks a boat, gasoline is spilled and then the woman shoots a flare at it, which causes the entire boat to be set on fire, as well as scorching the shark, the boat would then explode, and for the rest of movie the shark bears a scar on the side of its face.
At this location, you can find this...

Ur a good utuber
Is this the first comment you’ve added? Or am I just blind
The alien spaceship you found references rick and morty when the narrator says gazorpazorp also the show the narrator is from
The lack of a Jaws reference is actually extremely impressive to me
Maybe there is one but we haven't found it yet
I noticed a reference with the apex great white.
Fr
Entire game is Jaws reference. Maybe devs decided it'd be too obvious, even more than Titanic.
I know i was really expecting more the only ones i noticed was the second encounter with scaly pete after taking his foot and the final fight with him
The fact that the subnautica base is put in a kelp forest that somewhat resembles a creepvine forest makes the Easter egg just that more cool to find

The kaiju reference is referencing to Pacific Rim, the first movie, since the kaiju came from under the sea through a portal
The fact that they have Chris Parnell as the narrator and there not being some Archer reference is a damn shame
If you swim just above the surface of the water with your fin sticking out, slowly, it'll play the Jaws theme song.
How?
Easter egg that relates to lord of the flies(pretty sure). On an island you can find spears with one having a pig head on it
In one of the many random lines that Parnell says during the game, one is in relation to Planet of the Apes
There's a pretty cool Cthulhu mythos Easter egg with one of the human enemies.
