"the worst thing you can do is set yourself goals" GOSH is that true and i wish i was told this years ago when i was young (instead of the exact opposite again&again), would have saved myself a lot of grief
Stephen Fry would be such a delightful person to know. Imagine for a second if he was your favourite uncle... You'd never read a stupid self help book again. You could just ask him for a piece of his mind. I'm really glad that he is out there on RUclips, we are all better for it.
I could listen to Stephen Fry talk for hours. I found myself pausing the video regularly just to think inwardly about the points he's made and it's wonderful to listen to
of course it`s good to hear the many similarities in thoughts and attitudes towards different subjects I found with my own whenever I listen to a person as likeable as wonderful Stephen Fry. Thank you.
I met a guy at a wedding. We spoke for a while and he told me he was in a band. I went to see him play and eventually became their roadie/security for a decade.
I think you're right, my Uncle has Aspergers and he is an awkward person to be around and a trial to talk to. I do however do try to talk to him, he comes up with things that make me think once in a while. He's not a techno-literate person but he has nearly all our family history in his head.
I didn't notice that the sound was only coming out of the left ear until it fell out no when it got fired out by Stephens awesome speech, this just proves he is god
@arsbroct I agree, with that, although to feel strong in ones own mind with wisdom, which one can share with others as a leader and a equal all at once, comes from the ability to know ones self entirely and to know ones self entirely while being able to share ones self with others is also one of the greatest things a human being can achieve, thank you for your inspirational comment :)
we all have a will to get liked, we all are afraid not to be liked. those who do not have these things are the ones that will not not liked. those who conquer these things are the ones that become great leaders. those who embrace and study these things become great minds.
All this talk as if Fry is some thug who won the jackpot. If he was innately odious he'd still be a criminal. This is clearly a case of a troubled (and to a certain extent oppressed) but talented young man, discovering a means of creativity and self expression. Once he mixed with similarly high functioning individuals surrounded by a vast archive of knowledge to stimulate him, he became hooked on good honest work. It means with lots of dedication and a bit of luck, you can turn your life around.
@arsbroct while conversing and stimulating the mind with speech, the interactive outer senses are provoked in to responding to stimulation with another human being, while the inner being is also engaged in this interaction at a responding and engaging level, the inner being the higher self is seldom engaged in that situation. although often is the case, while a human becomes solitary, does the mind, soul and spirit become engaged, while thought and extra sensory, fulfillment begins to take shape
Setting goals is fine. The problem is WHY we set the goals we set. For instance, if your mom needs surgery but can't afford it, and neither can you afford it, you might set a goal and work hard toward getting enough money to get her the surgery. That is a wholesome goal which I think destiny will support as you work toward it. Problem is we're a bunch of intellectual animals running around setting nothing more than self-centered, egotistical goals. There is little love in our daily motivations.
Why does stephen fry care so much about being liked, life isn't about being like life is about living, being nice to each other, some people are introvert some extrovert, we all have different opinions that's what makes it fun, why just do things to be liked watching this makes people feel 10 again Oh OH no people won't like me. he did say a few great things and one was definitely talk to more people and be nice to each other and the more people you talk to the more you get out of life :)
Of course you're right. Romania also has many great thinkers and many of them achieved important things. But the bottom line is drawn when the respective country acknowledges its smart people. Brancusi has his own museum in Paris, while in Romania they tried to pull down one of his sculptures with a tractor. I've lived in the UK for 3 years now and although some people still regard me as a low life immigrant, I've had a better time making a name for myself here.Enjoy your country, it's a good one
I have to say that i disagree on his point of view on goals because it isn't only the end result that matters. It is in my humble opinion the journey, the learning experiences and the getting to know ones self along the way that is almost always more important than the destination.
He's right in saying that autistics don't have a talent for interacting with other people. But he forgets that we are absolutely amazing at interacting with all of the machines and protocols that enable all of this wonderful technological development.
Such a nice man, it seems but honest and humble so therefore no king, nor a eulogised saint, just a human who has dug deep to try to understand himself and humanity 🙏👍
@thebigdawg61 I suppose that's the thing about taste, everyone is entitled to their own preferences. I can understand why you'd think that way, but you'll find that anyone willing to given their views on things will be disliked by some, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's just human nature.
ok i can agree with what youve said there. and im not trying to say all introverts are nice and all extraverts are not nice. But it would be interesting for sure to see people who are great thinkers instead of great charmers get into positions of power. sadly i dont think it will happen.
you have i list of traits that if people have you write them off as negative. let me tell you. a few years ago i had a mouth virus unbenknownst to me because i didnt floss. during that time i felt tired constantly physically and mentally irritable got angry over everything and felt like shit 24/7 it was only a matter of pure luck that i tried flossing one day and my condition disappeared. if you had known me during that time you would probably have written me off but does that make me worthless?
In my experience, emos tend to be negative and endlessly self-pitying in the face of their relative privilege, but what Stephen Fry is saying is very positive and life-affirming. Don't you think it's a bit shallow to dismiss it as "emo" whenever someone talks about the fundamental nature of human experience? Is there anything more important, when you come down to it?
Its one of life's irony's that Fry, an atheist, espouses more Christian principals and benevolence than most theological practioners, brilliant speaker.
he's just so wonderful ! smart and funny and insightful -- was PERFECT as Oscar Wilde-- wouldn't it be great if our political leaders were men like him?
I have heard of the Sadhus and I do have admiration for them, but I don't see that their thoughts are mutually exclusive from Stephen Fry's. You seem to be quite preoccupied with the idea that actors have nothing to contribute, but the fact that he's an actor is pretty much irrelevant. He's also a writer and a comedian, two groups of people who tend to be particularly perceptive and insightful.
yes i find the human obsession with oneself quite interesting in the fact that we say say things like my computer or my house which in a way does belong to you and that there is no other way to put that without saying my but then we say thing like MY girlfriend or my father or my mother or my pet, instead of I am her boyfriend or I am his/her son. Another thing i find interesting is our obsession and yet shame of sex but i don't have the characters necessary for that!
you properly misunderstood what I meant a year ago, 'those who embrace and study these things become great minds' at least in my mind does not mean 'those who want to become popular' to me its more about finding it interesting why we want what we want, and note that I never said that all great minds are interested in this kind of thing. about your point regarding my 'great leaders' comment: conquering the will to be liked does not seem to have the necessity of being a nice person. to me atleast
@MCshlthead yes but the "popular" people you speak of are simply people surrounded by others that yearn to be like that person. people simply with a mentality that looks up to the alpha male or woman, and make it their goal to EG be adored, have money, popular with the opposite sex etc.
i am with you. i mean the guy has an incredibly fortunate and privileged background and so i really dont think he can offer good advise to the vast majority of people. If you see some of his other videos and then this one He seems to contradict himself so much its unbelievable.
My wife had a bad headache and started complaining, I said "Oh Christ, I am sure it is terrible for you, dear, but shut up." Now I have no girlfriend... Thanks
@arsbroct try and meditate for a while, opening the penial gland the third eye, meditation opens the higher senses, while meditating you will find much more then you ever though existed we as humans are forced to exept stimuli from external influence, much as exploration of space ignores the exceptional secret hidden places on earth, so does mans ability to ignore its inner self while experiencing external influence. while exploring as an individual, great hidden worlds will appear :)
My left ear loved this.
So did mine. I'm corn beef in my right ear. (Corn beef = deef).
Yea i got 12 seconds in
Ironically, the right ear has just gone on my earphones.
"the worst thing you can do is set yourself goals" GOSH is that true and i wish i was told this years ago when i was young (instead of the exact opposite again&again), would have saved myself a lot of grief

Such clarity of thought. Fry you really are extraordinary.
He's so intelligent. I wish he could be my friend so I could ask him advice for everything in my life...
I've thought about that more than once :)
of course it`s good to hear the many similarities in thoughts and attitudes towards different subjects I found with my own whenever I listen to a person as likeable as wonderful Stephen Fry. Thank you.
we are huggable and lovable and we want to love and be loved
Hugs and love to Stephen and everyone- and I love the long hair on him in this!
I met a guy at a wedding. We spoke for a while and he told me he was in a band. I went to see him play and eventually became their roadie/security for a decade.
When this video finished I said to myself "damn, I wanted to hear more", and then I saw the rest of this conversation is available. Thank you!
I think you're right, my Uncle has Aspergers and he is an awkward person to be around and a trial to talk to. I do however do try to talk to him, he comes up with things that make me think once in a while. He's not a techno-literate person but he has nearly all our family history in his head.
The editing at 8:20, in context, is incredible. 'I' do Love Stephen Fry.
The best run-on sentence, with a galaxies worth of tangents, I've heard in years.
My right ear loved the little clicking/scratching sounds.,
I love him ! I wish i could speak with him, or meet more people like him :)
Such great and wise words by Stephen here. What an amazing guy. Wonderful video. james:)
I didn't notice that the sound was only coming out of the left ear until it fell out no when it got fired out by Stephens awesome speech, this just proves he is god
Best example of evolved humanity on the planet. Kudos to Stephen Fry.
@Tundravalcoz
That proves one thing!
I have my headphones in the wrong way round.
Amazing man. His words and wisdom get me through my studies.
This is a particularly good video to watch with the snowfall overlay.
bless you. im in the same boat. i wish u all the best
It is so lovely hearing mr. Fry speak ;)
What a great intellect he has, helps me get through yet another covid day
@Tundravalcoz You just made me realize my speakers are on the wrong sides...
OK seriously can we sack the entire government and make Stephen king?
Or can we make Stephen fry?
@@nathansikner2560 Hhaha nice once can we make Stephen Fry fry?
My left ear very much enjoyed hearing Steven's points of view.
@phraedusthamusicdigr Very famous British actor, comedian, screenwriter, etc...
we all have a will to get liked, we all are afraid not to be liked.
those who do not have these things are the ones that will not not liked.

amazing words of wisdom

he doesnt only agree with the things that i believe, but opens my mind to new ideas altogether! love you stephen :D xx
One thing I have recently come to realise in my 55 years is that is OK for a heterosexual man to love another man,and I love Stephen Fry!
11 people disliked this video because they just learned what egotistical means and that it applies to them.
Maybe missclick XD

@Tundravalcoz Oh sh..... I have my left speaker on the right side... which is also the wrong side...
I know again why I love Stephen Fry. :)
Why does stephen fry care so much about being liked,
life isn't about being like life is about living, being nice to each other,
some people are introvert some extrovert, we all have different opinions that's what makes it fun, why just do things to be liked

I live you Stephen. I really do.
The sound is only coming out of the left speaker.

"who would you want to hug more?"
when i heard this i straight away said,
"STEPHEN FRY!!"
:P xx

Fantastic
@Silver44Guy are you talking about Stephen Fry!? What have you achieved compared to him?
Such a nice man, it seems but honest and humble so therefore no king, nor a eulogised saint, just a human who has dug deep to try to understand himself and humanity 🙏👍
Qu'est ce qu'il est bien ce mec !
Agreeable words
i dont get this ear thing can someone explain it??please!
Mastermind.
Can it be your headset, i only get sound from the one side of my headset.
He is extraordinarily insightful and erudite.
who is this guy never heard of him but he is very interesting.
Love it...
@sethkasketch The bankrupted one perhaps?
Stephen Fry is just so darn cute...
Pull out your headphones a tiny bit, you'll hear in both ears :)
I love him :D he's amazing
"Ah Christ! I'm sure it's terrible for you dear, but just shut up". That sums up my attitude towards negative people.
Shut up
@thebigdawg61 I suppose that's the thing about taste, everyone is entitled to their own preferences. I can understand why you'd think that way, but you'll find that anyone willing to given their views on things will be disliked by some, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's just human nature.
What Stephen says about technology reminds me of "A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore Roosevelt
ok i can agree with what youve said there. and im not trying to say all introverts are nice and all extraverts are not nice. But it would be interesting for sure to see people who are great thinkers instead of great charmers get into positions of power. sadly i dont think it will happen.
@MistaMase102 ok thats maybe, so how can you say that isnt true for all popular people??? and why are some nice people so inherently unpopular???
Work is more fun than fun. At least mine is 😋
I've thought that exact same thing!
you have i list of traits that if people have you write them off as negative. let me tell you. a few years ago i had a mouth virus unbenknownst to me because i didnt floss. during that time i felt tired constantly physically and mentally irritable got angry over everything and felt like shit 24/7 it was only a matter of pure luck that i tried flossing one day and my condition disappeared. if you had known me during that time you would probably have written me off but does that make me worthless?

are you trolling??
Older model speakers can't differentiate what side the sound is coming from, so it'll come out evenly on both. That's the only reason I can think of.
One*
Its one of life's irony's that Fry, an atheist, espouses more Christian principals and benevolence than most theological practioners, brilliant speaker.
damnit you cut him mid-sentence
@ruttergod
Well said. And yes, there is too much "me, me, me" everywhere.
I want to eat in that restaurant where everyone gets the food that another person ordered. That is an awesome idea.
We shouldn't be introspective?
Mr Fry thank you for saying loads of things that I have always thought but I'm not famous enough to be able to say it out loud, xxxxx
he's just so wonderful ! smart and funny and insightful -- was PERFECT as Oscar Wilde-- wouldn't it be great if our political leaders were men like him?
I care for the well-being of our race and harmony. Happiness and richness are by-products.
He's also a writer and a comedian, two groups of people who tend to be particularly perceptive and insightful.
great words. really made me want to become part of society that line did.
yes i find the human obsession with oneself quite interesting in the fact that we say say things like my computer or my house which in a way does belong to you and that there is no other way to put that without saying my but then we say thing like MY girlfriend or my father or my mother or my pet, instead of I am her boyfriend or I am his/her son. What about books?? Dude this guy in interesting say there is a part 2

about your point regarding my 'great leaders' comment: conquering the will to be liked does not seem to have the necessity of being a nice person. to me atleast
He is in Hobbit 2012.
World rejoice !
@MCshlthead yes but the "popular" people you speak of are simply people surrounded by others that yearn to be like that person. people simply with a mentality that looks up to the alpha male or woman, and make it their goal to EG be adored, have money, popular with the opposite sex etc.
i should think most countries have great minds and thinkers, ours just get remembered more because they speak english
Thats Numberwang!
i am with you. i mean the guy has an incredibly fortunate and privileged background and so i really dont think he can offer good advise to the vast majority of people. If you see some of his other videos and then this one He seems to contradict himself so much its unbelievable.
seconded.
you just had the most impoderable joy of watching charlieissocoollike whech makes you like, cool
My wife had a bad headache and started complaining, I said "Oh Christ, I am sure it is terrible for you, dear, but shut up." Now I have no girlfriend... Thanks
He is the most british looking man ever. He is really not handsome, but for some reason he is extremely charming :)
Oh ho ho my god 6:30 is the funniest thing ever!!
@arsbroct try and meditate for a while, opening the penial gland the third eye, meditation opens the higher senses, while meditating you will find much more then you ever though existed
