- Island of Manono, Samoa, Pacific Ocean - full tour of Manono island in Samoa. Let's travel to Samoa and let's walk around Manono island which is an island of Samoa, situated in the Apolima Strait between the main islands of Savai'i and Upolu. I walked all around Manono island videotaping the different sites, its four villages on the island with a total population of about 1,000. The boat trip from Upolu island to Manono island took about 20 minutes. Being at the island of Manono in Samoa was an incredible and very unique experience.
Samoa is an country comprising the westernmost group of the Samoan Islands, in Polynesia. Many of its islands have reef-bordered beaches and rugged, rainforested interiors with gorges and waterfalls. The islands include Upolu, home to most of Samoa's population, and Savai'i, one of the largest islands in the South Pacific. Smaller islands may have small villages or be uninhabited, some with wildlife sanctuaries.

TALOFA LAVA Vic.......God bless you for a wonderful depiction and recording of the beautiful island of Manono. The house that you filmed making mention that its possibly 100years old. Its actually over 120 years old, I am one of the many grand-daughters, my grandfather built this home the old traditional way. He wove together the rope and lashed all the wood together, not one nail held this home together. Unfortunately it has seen many cyclones, storm surges and tsunami when it hit manono in 2009, however regardless of the the added corrigated iron roof and now the odd nail to hold it in place, the interior of my grandfathers work is still in tact.
I want to extend the invitation to you and your family that if ever you go to samoa again you are welcome to our home. If the posts could speak of all the comings and goings over the history of time it would sing to you the stories of birth, celebrations, marriages, ceremonies, feasts and of course death. The journey of life etched into the strength of each post. HOW BEAUTIFUL and honoring to see my Grandfathers work being acknowledged, from the bottom of my heart and my family Fa'afetai tele lava....thank you soooooooo much......and please if you come to NZ AOTEAROA you are welcome to my home there...my mother was emotional watching her childhood home.....God bless you with all that you do. Alofatele ia te oe Fiu Mesepa Edwards
Hi Mesepa and thank you very much for your wonderful comments. I spent a lot of time in Samoa and during my tour of the Pacific island (which lasted 13 months) and after 38 islands, I can honestly say that Samoa was the highlight by far.. what a beautiful place, all the islands, Upolu, Savai'i, Apolima and Manono. But, what really made Samoa so special is the fascinating culture of your people, and how it has been beautifully preserved.. I am so glad you got a chance to see your ancestral home in my video, my only regret was not staying there longer in order to be able to make a completely separate video of the house so that the world could see its beautiful architecture, how it was designed and built... maybe some other time and thank you for the invitations, I know I will be coming by within the next couple of years..
Thank you, i must say that because of social media and the incredible technology today, it took 10mins of my phone and facebk messages to go crazy with family from australia, america, nz all saying to watch your video clip of our home......everyone is soooo proud.
Wow! That house is so amazing! Wonderful story sister. God bless.
An exceptionally touching and emotional real life story. I am really moved by your way of paying tributes to your old grandfather. May God bless you.
Your people are so nice, so different than my country.
this is very awesome. my father is a true Manono borned and raised but i never have the chance to go around Manono and never been to Apolima , but your eyes are ours , watching from overseas. much appreciates . God bless.
Hello my friend and thank you for your wonderful comments!
Talofa Uiki. My name is Pio Mailo from fagatogo tutuila A.samoa. My dad mom's family is the Leiataua from manomo. My dad was raised in fagatogo A.Samoa and his father is the late high chief Pio Saiga Ma'ilo from fagatogo. I haven't been to Upolu or Manono. Do you have any family members back in manono?
Wooooooooooooooooow! This is sooooooo cool! Praise the Lord for this is such a blessing to be able to finally see Manono for the first time in your video sir. Ohhhhhh, praise the Lord. God is so good. I am so happy and blessed to finally see this beautiful and marvelous small island. A part of my beautiful Samoa. I am from Savaii though but live in New Zealand and love my whole Samoa. We thank the Lord that now I have family in Manono as I am with a Manono man, my manamea. God bless you Samoa and God bless you sir for doing such a great job. God is good. We do in Jesus' name, Amen.
Hello, I am so glad that you enjoyed this video.. I will be visiting Samoa and Manono in 2020, once again, what a beautiful place!
Again I am amazed by the beauty and the peaceful nature of this island and people. Along with apolima I had also wondered as a youngster almost 50 year ago what it looked like in Manono. I had thought maybe they had a couple of vehicles but I guess there wouldn’t be any boats going there big enough to transport a car. This truly is a pearl along with Apolima in our beautiful Samoan islands. Thank you so much once again and I am going through all your videos now to see the beauty of our pacific islands through your video lenses.
Thank you for your wonderful comments my friend, I hope that you have discovered my videos from Apolima and Manono, I loved Samoa and I hope to go back there one day soon!

ntures ....keep it secret...pstpst...its sooo special :)& sunset&sunrise too!!!a Bingo!!!
Forgive my ignorance. But with their homes being so open, is the temperature fairly constant there? It looks like it would be very hot, not to mention harassment from bugs? It's amazing how you can compare that type of simple lifestyle compared with the hustle and bustle of USA with huge houses and complex technology, I can guarantee you these folks who no doubt do not even own a TV enjoy their life as much if not more. Amazing video, thanks for posting.
Thank you for your comments and yes, this thought occurred to me constantly as I walked around: these people seemed to be proud of their culture and happy, friendly... without the wealth and the huge houses and luxury that one can find in western Europe or in the USA..i
A Jones yeah it's something about the heat, which is why they have such open windows/houses...becuz it's really hot in Samoa
I'm from the mainland of Upolu, Leauvaa Levi Saleimoa and Fasitoouta to be precise. I live in NZ. Thank you for this video. Always wanted to see Manono but never got the chance. Beautiful.
You are so welcome!

Hello and thank you for viewing my videos!!
Wow!! Sir I thank you for this video I'm samoan watching your video from San Francisco, my dad is an American Samoan and my mom is from this island of manono my grandparents are buried in this island and I wish I know, where in this island they are buried, I was born in the other manono that located in Upolu, which is across the ocean from the Manono island you're touring, I'm almost,60 years young. now and I'm so glad to see your video
thank you w
Thank you for your wonderful comments my friend....
you are living my dream!
Thank you for viewing my videos and for your comments!
Thanks Vic for taking us on this trip around a very beautiful island. That church you went inside was stunningly beautiful and nice to hear that they follow the Methodist faith.
+meandmymouth Thank you for viewing my videos!!
+Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures Looking again at your video of this mini paradise what strikes me is that if you live on such an isolated and self sufficient island with a near perfect environment you have no reason or motivation to wander or travel abroad let alone colonize other lands ? It's only in large continents like Europe or Africa that because of the easier facility to travel on land rather than on the more hazardous sea and ocean that you get motivated to see what's over the horizon ?
Many Samoans emigrate to NZ, for better education and/or employment opportunities. My parents moved to NZ soon after independence in 1962. My paternal grandmother's family are from Manono. Its great to see this video, the last time I did the walk around was in 1980
🌏❤🌞🌞🌞🌴🌴🌴🌴I love MANONO. ...

Ilikesamoanpeople
Thank you for viewing my videos!!
Garbage was a major thing I noticed while in Western Samoa and Sa' Vaii . That and clean toilets. That was back in 93.
Apia is a modern town and clean too!
“No dogs or cats.” Next scene, little girl holding cat, lol
lol... Thanks for visiting! 😊😊😊
Very nice your video
Hello, thank you for watching my videos!! 👍👍👍
Amazing!
+Oliwier EB Thank you!!
i hope i could experience the wonderful adventure that you have sir.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, everything is possible!!
Awesome as always Vic! Would love to see a clip of you in the Manu'a Islands over in American Samoa (Taʻu, Ofu and Olosega). It is said that a lot of Polynesian customs (e.g. language, oratory protocol and matai (chieftain) system) originated from this group of islands long before the Europeans established the bigger islands of Tutuila, Savaii and Upolu as the main hubs of commerce and governance.
+nesianrugby Thank you for your wonderful and informative comments. I have a tour of the American Samoan island of Aunu'u coming up soon...
Savaii is the largest island not Upolu. The capitol Apai is in the island of Upolu.
Thank you for the clarification!!
Apia
manono is beautiful , but i have one question, where all the people ?
You are right, it is a beautiful place and when I visited I saw quite a few people, they appear on the video... ..
they must be hiding, because all i saw were two,or three !i still enjoyed seeing the island though.you are lucky to be able to visit so many beautiful and interesting places i like your accent. are you romanian , or something similar?
No, I am not Romanian, not even close...
i am curious as to your nationality because you speak english like that is not your original language, and your name and general features . i can speak and understand three languages, and parts of two others, one of which is samoan. so i can say that you mispronounced pago pago as peyngo peyngo, where it is correctly pronounced as pahngo pahngo.as for me i have a mixed back ground of three races and am from hawaii. so my accent is very different. but do not be insulted because i guessed wrong on your nationality i meant no harm. i plan to view all your travel videos as i go along.
Same question applied to me as I watched aye. God bless.
Beutyfull place 👍👍
Hello, thank you for watching my videos!! 👍👍👍
There were no shops to buy anything on Monunu when I was there but there are some enterprising people who will serve you food and water if you ask around.
True, I did not see any shops in Monunu.. I enjoyed my visit there and hope to go back one day soon..
Which Island would you prefer to visit again? Samoa or Tonga
I do not want to insult any one of the two cultures, but, I loved Samoa...
Re: the house...it is indeed beautiful, but doesn't it ever rain sideways, and, if so, what do they do?
Good question, here is the answer from wikipedia: Protection from sun, wind or rain is achieved by suspending from the fau (the frame f the house) running round the house several of a sort of drop-down Venetian blind, called pola. The fronds of the coconut tree are plaited into a kind of mat about a foot wide and three feet long. A sufficient number of pola to reach from the ground to the top of the poulalo are fastened together and let down as the occasion demands.
Thanks vic. That is one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen. The deepest parts of Central Asia and also the Pacific hold a certain fascination for me.
Thank you for your comments!!
...been there...pstpst;)!!!!
No joking?? Did you like it??
Been there 12 days...Planted a special tree ...around Ian's house a nzler ...caretaker...I believe the boys with the boot are the kids/adults now from the family I stayed with...
@VicStefanu...The sound of laughter is indeed heartwarming, Vic. If you see fit too, would you please give me a brief, if that's possible, summary why such joy is so much more prevalent in less developed -- am I used the right word, Vic? -- social orders? Just two days ago, I had occasion to strike up a woman who gave me the impression she was a newcomer to the US. And she pointed out the constant anger and bickering in an advanced, affluent country.
You may be raising a very good point here my friend. In general, Pacific peoples are far more friendlier, hospitable and more relaxed and easy to strike a conversation with.. In general (again) they are happier and more prone to laughter (as you saw here) and I believe that this is because the climate (warm weather) and the surroundings (blue skies and the gently breeze) make a people more susceptible to all sorts of positive attributes.. Alas, as the hunger for wealth sinks into each culture these things are all bound to change and to bring deeper societal changes as well..
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures You're also a prophet. I'm afraid that will be the case, that hunger for wealth brings about a new social dynamic. There's an old saying here that goes, "as the twig is bent, so doth the tree incline." Thank you, Vic.
Hi Vic just curious what was the price on the boat from Upolu to Manono?...Thanks for the video ....
If I remember correctly, I paid $20 for the trip both ways..
no cats then a cat lol
lol...
I'm from India and I wanna hangout with you. Contact with me plz whenever you will travel around.
ok...
You can tell Tongans settled here wayway back with their ancient tombs and land scape.
Very interesting, thank you for these comments!! 😊😊😊
Nice clip however, some facts are not right...please Upolu is not the largest island of Samoa... Savaii is....
Thank you for the correction!!
lucky!
+Shromzs Thanks..
In this case, I used a recent Lonely Planet book but, apparently, they had never been to the island.. Many times they copy information from other sources, or, they use information from other people and of course they were wrong since the whole island was spotless...
Thank you my friend!!
I just did, I hope that you have subscribed to mine... Thanks..
Thank you for subscribing!!
Faamolemole lava ,I say be clean with my island ,my island ,se crazy own the place , be clean E ,text me e to chief Auburn . 🍯🍯🍯🍯🌴
Hello my friend, are you the chief of Manono??
Lonely planet probably mistaken dried dead fallen leaves for "garbage"?
I think they were referring to actual garbage (which was not true)..
I quess you are billionarie. me too son. I should move to jupiter in florida
Believe it or not I have been to Jupiter in Florida... :))
Its not to much to do there
Always remove your shoes .
Good tip!
