- Samoa, capital Apia - top sites to see and visit in Apia, Samoa! Let's travel to Samoa in the Pacific Ocean and let's walk around Samoa's beautiful capital, the city of Apia and let's visit the important sites and let's learn a few things along the way. The city of Apia in Samoa is one of the most beautiful (and most historic) cities in the Pacific Ocean!!
Apia is the capital city of the South Pacific island nation of Samoa. Offshore, near Vaiala beach, Palolo Deep Marine Reserve is a stretch of reef with a deep, coral-lined hole. The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is housed in the writer’s restored home. Nearby, at the top of Mount Vaea, is his grave. In the city center, the country’s natural history and cultural heritage are the focus of the Museum of Samoa.
The Independent State of Samoa, formerly known as Western Samoa, is a Unitary Parliamentary Republic with eleven administrative divisions. The two main islands are Savai'i and Upolu with four smaller islands surrounding the landmasses. The capital city is Apia.

I was in Samoa in 1993 for two months during the beginning of a one year bicycle trip .My first experience as a young Canadian tourist. . This video brings back so many happy memories . I am so impressed by the improvements and modernizing of the new Airport. Thank you for this excellent trip down memory lane . Talofa Safua.

+Johnny Travel-the world Thank you for viewing my videos!!
Johnny Travel-the world good night
Hi Vic,
Thankfully my PC booted up normally this afternoon, and I was able to resume
watching this wonderful video of SAMOA and its capital city of Apia.
It's amazing to see both left handed steering columns and rights handed
steering column vehicles using the road without the vehicles encountering any
road issues when driving. I know that the driving is geared to right handed steering columns, but to see that both sets of steering column vehicles using the roads in
harmony is truly amazing.
+Michael Friedman The guy that owned the hotel where I stayed at, told me that the government had prepared every one carefully so that accidents could be avoided the first day of the switch. Sadly, according to him, some tourists were killed soon thereafter because they were driving on the wrong side of the road (which was the correct side just a few days before the switch). The cabs of the buses were changed as well so that the door could now open on the right side of the road... But somehow they did manage and overall, it has helped them with tourists from NZ and Australia, Samoa is now the second favorite place for holiday (after Fiji of course)...
That Cathedral looks so beautiful, and I must say that white paint is very clean.
+Oliwier EB I am glad that you liked the Cathedral because there is another video coming up in the future with more extensive views of this place including the dome which is painted in a very traditional way...
I have not been home for over 40 years, and my what a change , I do not know it any more. Thanks a lot.
great info and insight on Samoa. thankyou for sharing

Wow is that samoa i didn't think samoa was that beautiful, nice video mate..
Hello, thank you for your comments!! 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video would love to visit Samoa
One of the most beautiful countries on Earth!!
Malo Vic. Most comprehensive video of Apia that I've seen. The Cathedral in Apia looks immaculate because it was completely rebuilt from 2010 and reopened in 2013, much bigger than the previous 1905 cathedral. The buses are from the 1950s design but they are regularly rebuilt over the years using the 1950s specifications. However, they will sadly disappear one day because the Japanese no longer supply spare parts for them. Thanks for the great video.
sorry the cathedral was reopened in 2014.
+petelo s Hello and thank you for the clarifications, especially regarding the Cathedral, you are the 3rd person that has submitted similar corrections.. I based my script from a travel guide book which (amazingly enough) incorrectly had stated that the Cathedral was built at 1905 (and left it at that).. I will insert a correction to the video when I find some time... thank you for viewing my videos, if there is a country that I want to come to in the Pacific, it is definitely Samoa, you are one of the few peoples that have maintained your culture AND you are proud of it...
yumy bananas...sooo sweet...memories memories..thnX Vic..:)

I know what you mean, I have found a way to reduce the wind noise... Thank you for viewing my videos and for your comments!
Thank you for taking me around. Beautiful
Hello, thank you for watching my videos!! 👍👍👍
Magnificent video of Samoa.
I am amazed how clean and spotless the landscape is,
and the magnificent condition the buses are in Samoa.
As you stated many of the buses are from the 1950's era
and yet they are in mint condition.
The catherdral is just lovely both indoors as well as
outdoors. Even the beaches and shoreline are spotless !
Unfortunately at the 09:48 mark the video froze and I have
not been successful in getting the video to continue.
This may not be a fault of your download the clock on
my PC stopped functioning completely and I got a windows 10
message that Start Menu and Cortana have stopped working.
At this point Windows 10 requested me to sign out, which I will now
be doing. I will try again later this week to trboot my PC and
ytu again to watch this video download.
I am truly amazed at the cleanliness of Samoa.
+Michael Friedman Hi Michael, you are absolutely correct, the whole island of Upolu is very clean and the city of Apia is spotless!! By far, one the most beautiful places that I have visited in my Pacific Island tour so far... I hope you have fixed your PC, the video seems to be ok passed the 9:48 mark..
Im samoan
Michael Friedman it does seem nice, why did so many migrate to the US then?

Quick fun fact. Hawaii was the first not only Pacific but the first Non-European nation to be recognized independent in November 28 1843.
Thank you for this information!
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures You’re welcome. The Declaration of Independence is called the Anglo-Franco Proclamation of 1843

Kind of reminds me of East Timor. Thanks for uploading this
Thank you for viewing my videos!!
beautiful island
Thank you for viewing my videos!!
I am surprised by the lack of scooters/motorcycles. They are the primary vehicles for most families in Asia.
I saw quite a few motorcycles but the primary means of moving around where the buses and cars..
It’s not the lack of it. Samoan people just tend to use cars and FOOTmobile 😂😂 we like walking hehehe
Happy people.
Probably the happiest (and friendliest) in the world!
@@VicStefanu Yes brother, I was born there and I know that, no matter what happen in life , rich or poor, we still love each other and support each other. We have so much respect for tourists and all people from around the world. I thank God for his grace and mercy upon the Samoan people, taught us to love and to share his love with our brothers and sisters around the world and to respect one another especially adults ,that's why we become of who we are today. God bless you my brother.

+Elisabeth Marti Hi Eli, sorry for the delayed reply, I have been travelling with very little wi-fi connection... I am now in Bora Bora and from here I am going to Easter Island, I still have 5 months of travelling to go!!
Miss home so much 💯❤🇼🇸
Samoa is beautiful!!
Yes indeed I was born n raised home
Thank you so much for your videos feels like home seeing the natural beauty of home
I love how you talk like Borat!
lol.. thank you.. I guess...
Good video and nice island. Why do they wave the stick with a plastic bag in the market?
@VicStefanu...Stopping the video at 4:21 where you explain the missing date that would have caused a disruption but for a clever maneuver, I go on record as saying I remember the event as though it were yesterday. Thank you, Vic. Now, here's hoping you don't embarrass me by responding that the event took place in 1800! lol!!!
+Jay Young lol....
I've learnt a lot from you, Thanks, I'm pure Samoan and did not know much. God Bless
+Mary Taualai Hello, thank you for your comments and for watching my videos!!
Samoa
Hello, thank you for watching my videos!!
You're a very good guide. How can you afford to travel so much?
Good planning and saving a lot.. Thank you for viewing my videos!!
While administered by New Zealand after the first World War, it would be a mistake to think of it as a colony.
Ok, thank you! 😊😊😊
I guess you were walking after 4 or 5 pm, been there last time and they close shop so early. I don't know why.
Some clips were videotaped during the weekend, maybe this is why you do not see many people around...
I agree it was a weekend if I could recall. It was their Early closing during those days that makes me curious. I have been to a lot of countries already however Samoa is a bit different when it comes to their closing time of their Business establishments. During that day, it was McDonald's, A Watch repair shop and Maui & sons that were only open and a few Chinese owned businesses. Even their Market would close early leaving their wares behind.
@@alongsky1 Thank you for your comments and for getting back to me!
Cheers!
what are the requirements for Ghanaian to travel to Samoa via invitation??
Sorry, I am not sure..
Nothing, you just pay for fare and fly there
That's very interesting ......2 days of August 28 and no December 30 .......does it happen repeatedly every year ? .....
No
Nice video. What currency do they use over there?
Thanks, the currency is called the Tala...
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures Takk skal du ha. Og jeg liker virkelig videoene dine.
Looks like hawaii
I agree, very close...
You don't see homeless in my country ....like here in Hawaii so stink n pilau so much homeless people kids n adults everywhere in town...
you would have used some Samoans who can assist your work with the language and other ethnographic identities. I wish I can work with you....am studying at Sydney University majoring in social science.
Hello my friend, thank you for viewing my videos and for your comments. I hope I can come back to Samoa one day soon, it was one of my favourite countries/places during my tour of the Pacific Ocean and I have great memories of the islands and its people..
They also changed on which side of the road they drive on to better align themselves with Australia and NZ.
Thank you for this information!!
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures De Rien.
Great video, what was the reasoning for somoa to change what side of the road they drive on?
+TutsiSlayer69 To be more culturally similar to New Zealand and Australia...
+TutsiSlayer69 By your username, I can tell you are from Africa. But why such a username? Do you hate Tutsis, your fellow Africans?
+TutsiSlayer69 Anyway, to answer your question, it is because the Prime Minister of Samoa is a total kiss-up to Australia and New Zealand.
They drive on the left side
TutsiSlayer69 They can buy cheaper cars from Australia, NZ, and Japan.
i lovet gud work on some more hehe
+rich butch Hello, thank you for your comments and for watching my videos!!
Sir. In western samoa have an mosque or not. I look from your behind like some building like an mosque
Hi, I do not remember a mosque in Samoa... thank you for viewing my videos!
No mosque in Samoa because it is a Christian country.
I missed all this places after school everyday
samoa is part of USA?
No, it's an independent country..
+Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures what language samoa country?
Samoan and English..
Alexandra Jogno American Samoa 65 miles to the east is a US territory this is Independent Samoa😎
So samoa is the only country that has ever switched over to driving on the left?
I think so, yes...
sir, can you tell me how much cost is enough for tour?
how is hotels cost and everything plz? can they speak English ?
are they European or Asian ?
The local population speak English very well and they are not Europeans. The cost (not counting the flights) is around $50US/day..
Ahmednor Abdullahi were not Asian were Polynesian. We speak english like United Kingdom. If your planing going make a budget first cuz everything is expensive.
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures thanks m8 I will do
they are far from asia they are from pacific island
Right..
I'm Samoan talofa lava
+DAYWALKER NIGHTRIDER Hi, what did you think of the video??
what to do there
There are many places to visit and things to do, it is such a wonderful place!
smoa
Thank you for viewing my videos!!
Main Makeki (Market) is actually called Makeki Fugalei not "Fu".
hes got it right its makeki fou as in ""new"" the new markets
Thanks
I know what fou means I'm samoan. was just saying the market is called Fugalei market just sounded like he was saying "fu" not "fou".
Agape Emorei. hi send me a email. i wamt to move there im black petroff3660@gmail.com
(Cont'd) While visiting a country where a reverse pattern is enjoyed compared to ours, I think I would hesitate driving on the reverse side for fear of subconsciously following the same pattern in my homeland (I hope I'm making sense, but we are creatures habit, after all). And why would one change from one to another in the first place? Jeez!!!
+Jay Young Samoans are culturally tied to Australia and New Zealand (especially) and will do anything to facilitate business with these two nations, thus the change in the direction of driving (it helped with tourism, naturally, from these 2 countries)...
Vic Stefanu Thank you. Makes sense. After all, economics is a powerful force, isn't it?
+Jay Young Yes, absolutely. I remember one professor telling me one day that the countries of OPEC could dislike each other when it comes to politics but it comes to economics, they are far more willing to agree on a certain policy...
I've been in the catholic cathedral
