Unusual Steam Locomotive Taking Water From Creek & Train Ride In Durbin, West Virginia + Cabooses

- Rare Steam Locomotive On The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Scenic Railroad. We Visited Cass Scenic Railroad at the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park in West Virginia. I filmed the steam trains and then went to Durbin, West Virginia to ride the Durbin Rocket. See my Steam Train play list. We rode the steam train west from Durbin along the Greenbrier River about 5 miles and then returned. They set off cabooses on sidings for the Cast Away Caboose experience. Notice how the coal burning steam engine gets water. They drop a hose in the creek on the return trip and fill the tender. The engineer talked about steam locomotives and steam trains while it was filling. Trains operate on 160.455 and hug the edge of the hill along the river. This was filmed June, 2021 and things have changed since this. The line to Cass from Durbin has been completed and trains can now run the full distance. The Durbin Rocket wasn't running when I was here for the Parade Of Steam 2023.
Filmed Sunday, June, 2021 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Good morning from sunny 🌞 hot England 🏴
I like the mountains and old town ways... very flat here in Michigan mostly.
Hey Mr. & Mrs. Jawtooth, 😊 this is a fun video. Beautiful day too😊
Wow nice ride love the nice scenery and the weather. Have a nice and great day.❤❤❤❤
What an enjoyable video! Thank you for sharing! I always think of steam locomotives as 'poetry in motion', and that Heisler certainly fits that description!
All Cass engines have those "Steam Siphons" so they can take water at Oats Run going up the Hill, or anyplace there is not a water tank or penstock. They were pretty common on all "woods" engines of the time since watering was usually from temporary locations as the forests were worked out.
Just think about how they used to run small mallets up that line from Ronceverte to Durbin!
Durbin Station was in use as a train order and agency station until December 29, 1978. Probably the fact it was the last to close (along with Marlinton the same day) is how it managed to avoid the wrecker. The town of Durbin or some entity got a hold of it before it rotted away.
Another great offering from Jaw Tooth - thanks!
Church, coffee and bacon after, and sprinkle in a little Jaw Tooth. Nothing better on a Sunday morning. My kids look forward everyday for a JT video to drop. Thanks for the great videos!! God Bless!! 🙏✝️🇺🇸
Those people who keep
That railroad operating
Are doing a fantastic job 👍
What a great place. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it😊
Thank you, Jaw Tooth, for bringing this video out of the "vault" so that we could see and enjoy your trip to Durbin, West Virginia to see the Durbin Rocket. This was a very enjoyable video. It was interesting to see how they replenish the water in the water compartment on the Heisler steam engine.
Glad to see the family out with you on a historical trek out in the Woods. Great natural scenery and think of the money saved because the ladies can't go shopping anywheres. A great spot for the overnight caboose getaway with your alarm clock being the whistle of the train. When you look at the forest and mountains and the size of the town it remains as remote in 2023 as it did in 1902. Enjoy the time together as those kids grow quickly
That was interesting and fun. Great time watching. Thanks JT.😊
Glad you enjoyed it😊
That was amazing for me, it felt like I was there with you. Great Shoot JT. The scenery was stunning. Thank you for taking us on this journey.
JT if i could be a kid again i would have loved to go on these journeys with my dad like you are doing. Lol
Pretty cool love train 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂 Horn sounds good love the caboose
How cool to ride on a steam powered train. 😊 And what beautiful scenery! 😊😊 I'm sure you and your family enjoyed it very much. It's just too bad the pets didn't get to come along too. 😢
Absolutely beautiful railway! Thanks for sharing Jawtooth!👍
Many thanks!😊
Wow! Such a beautiful scenery!
It really is!😊
@@JawTooth 👍🙂
Nice day with the family on the rails. Beautiful scenery. Thanks JT!
Glad you enjoyed it😊
This was so cool with picturesque scenery . Loved these steam engine locomotives their horns and the trips. Thanks again for another awesome adventure. 😊❤ By the way, is this a cabbage head steam engine locomotive? Sweet fur babies❤
Looks like yall had a good time. I sure wish we had something like that near me. Thanks for sharing!
I rode the Durbin Rocket with my brother several years ago. A great memory of good times with him.
I always enjoy the Cass scenic railroad footage. It would be really cool to stay in one of those cabooses. Thanks for sharing!!
Now that's my type of engine any thing with steam. This was a awesome trip thanks for taking us along👍👍
Very cool! Always enjoy steam engines :)
Fun video, I really enjoyed watching this. It was like I was along for the ride.
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo et très bon dimanche ! ✨✨
He still be alive . I feel american railroad is deep and wonderful . Today I can see it . Thank you very much !
Great job! The only missing is the smell of the locomotive smoke.
Awesome steam live action 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank You Jaw Tooth for this fine video adventure. The D&G is now on my bucket list!
So nice to see your lovely wife in shot ! Great catch sir luving it
Why did the deer cross the river? ... oh, no! ... please don't tell me it's just like with the chickens and the road ... not all that again! Luv the attitude of your 'action' kids and Mama Jaws. Ya know? someday they just might not wanna do trains. Are you prepared for that? Gracias por tu video, Señor Jaws. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Thank you for the video today. Lovely train rides. See you on the next, Brian! 👍🙂🇺🇸
Awesome video JT! Beautiful scenery there!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍😊
8 mph, what's the hurry ! Happy Sunday morning from the kern river valley. Great video JT.
Awesome! Heisler (and Climax) made v-cylinder and side-cylinder low-geared shaft driven locomotives for bush tramway/logging lines in many countries, including New Zealand (dubbed "lokeys", along with several makes of British locomotives, and a half dozen or so locally designed and built types). Nice to see this well preserved machine in action!
Thank you for this picturesque route through the nature of the Cass Scenic Railroad Sate Park. It provides us with beautiful sunny images that we can't get enough of!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
Hey Jaw Tooth, this is a great video showing the steam engine trains
and riding in the train was really great to see another great video
Thank You Jaw Tooth.🤠
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Awesome video JT. That Cass railroad is sure on my bucket list. Fantastic locos and beautiful scenery. Like those Cabooses you can stay in too.
The Durban rocket is the slowest rocket known to man. I rode both the Cass scenic and the Durban rocket during my honeymoon in May of 2017. 🚀🚂😁
Have an outstanding day everyone!!
Great video, have a nice weekend my friend!
That was neat to display the warer being "jerked" up from the creek into the tender. Not big enough to justify a water tower. That is what defined a "jerkwater" town.
Great video. Love the old geared locos. Great scenery too
Many thanks!😊
We rode the "Durbin Rocket' a couple of years ago. We also did Cass Railroad and the Green Bank Radio Observatory. There is lots to see around there.
That crane on the siding looked interesting too.
What a day you and family are having JT. Great scenery , sunny day perfect for a family train ride. But there was one shot you took of a man in the river FLY fishing! That in it's self made my day, Thank You
😅was a nice video, see him before, but super to see him again Brian. thanks for it.😅greetz:🍐Peer.
hello jaw it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks is cool thanks friends randy
Love the whistle. 😺
This video brings back good memories .
This part of the railroad was not built solely for logging but was built as the Chesapeake and Ohio's Greenbrier branch from North Caldwell to Durbin where it connected to the Western Maryland's branch from Elkins.
JawTooth another AWESOME video
Great scenery
I always wanted to ride the Cass scenic , that Heisler runs way quieter than diesel ever could ! A great video .
Thank you very much!😊
Love the geared locomotives. The Shay is my favourite one. 😊
@AnthonyWiddowdon Those geared locos do look amazing, dont you agree.
Mine too!
The ex C&O Greenbrier branch runs North/South. Did not know Cass RR #6 was working Durbin now. Thx
Awesome video of the ride JT! Was really cool that you went in the cab. It’s unbelievable that they fill up the tender with water from the creek!
I want to stay there one day ! Awesome train experience!!!
It really is!
Thank you Jaw tooth for sharing this scenic ride great video
Great video!
So special, I love this time travel feel!
Wild and Wonderful
🌳🚂🇮🇳🚂🌳
Nice Coverage
Nice ride!
love seeing the Steam Locomotive.
YES! The three truck Heisler, thank you!
We have a train near flint called Huckleberry Train ride... goes about three miles back and forth... i rode on it once.
This is my newest favorite video of yours. Great, interesting trip, well photographed. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
I was there to see Durbin & Cass two years ago! Very neat operation! Anyone have any idea when they are going to start running Durbin to Cass again?
❤
Very cool, Brian!!! Very enjoyable!!
Interesting train ride with some good info. Love the Wabash cabooses. Dad was a Wabash employee. Thanks.
Awesome video and great catches
Thank you very much!😊
Great video jawtooth
Amazing videos Jaw tooth keep up the good work
Awesome train ride.
Hey JawTooth!
Love your videos!
Wanted to let you know the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL is a place you need to get to. You will love it.
On next Saturday July 1st the museum will be running 70 (yes, 70) trolley and electric interurbans in celebration of the museum’s 70 year anniversary! Could be an epic video.
😁👍
Did ya see the video of the big boy helping a stalled train yesterday. Man that's a cool video....
Good Amazing great catch Jaw Tooth.
You americans are very nice people.
Greetings from Italy Spilimbergo PN Pordenone Friuli 🇮🇹
Thanks for watching !
As I type this, I am working in the town where #6 started her life with the Bostonia Coal and Clay Company. I'm going to have to make that trip.
Great video, I have to try this run, have taken Cass Scenic to Bald Knob a dozen times. Good job and get to meet Mrs Jaw Tooth and family, thanks again....
Thank you for showing the builder plate. Now I know that it is a Heisler, and not a Climax. It is hard for me to tell the two apart.
Beautiful scenery! Thanks for sharing!
@jamesnicholas7180 you could say that again, mate.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice ❤️ 👌 👍 great 👍 👌 view someone doing fly fishing 🎣
Hi Mrs JawTooth 👌👌👏
Fun video. Nice to see people out enjoying themselves. The whistle is so neat, such a iconic sound. Thanks for letting us go with you.
A V-2 engine! LOL!
Awesome video of cass JT!!!
Good video Jawtooth
such beautiful country. I hope the get the trim on that depot painted before it starts to rot, looks original. I love those Wabash Cabooses, I had no idea so many were still in existence. There is 1 at Monticello Illinois railroad museum and another in St. Charles Mo. next to an MKT caboose at that restored depot. You kids look so excited JT 🤣. I wonder if any of those little boys were having their first train experience and will they just go back to video games afterwards or is their lives forever changed now? Trains will do that to you, especially Steam engines. Cheers Rob
Absolutely beautiful railway!
Enjoy the old steam trains
Awesome video but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂👍
great job lov it lov to see more like that
I've noticed that you have cut back on your uploading on a daily basis. You didn't upload anything but shorts on 3 days last week. I look forward to your morning video that usually appears at 8:00 AM Eastern time, 7:00 AM Central time.
I enjoyed that video👍👍
Excellent
Great Stuff JT!
Jawtooth great video and post , you and family look great. I agree the guy around 10:42 was rude and gross, spitting in public view. He should have gone to the toilet or done it in a cup or towel and put it in a bin.
