He had a small role in "Hawaii" as Julie Andrews' father and played a number of small character roles. Stapleton was a character actress on stage who played parts in a number of Broadway musicals, notably as Judy Holidays sister(?) and owner of the answering service in "Bells are Ringing," which she repeated in the film.

Archie had a cartoon face. Some of his expressions were funnier than the punchlines of the jokes. He would just narrow his eyes a certain way, and it was hilarious. Carroll O’Connor was such a gifted actor.

I recall that in AITF's first season, Stapleton's _Edith_ character -- although ditzy -- tended to be unsmiling and not as joyful (at least in the episodes I was able to catch). I'm not sure of what caused the change to what we see in the subsequent seasons, but it makes sense that a happily optimistic Edith would work as a great counterpoint to Archie's brooding displeasure.

He only makes it to $150 before fessing up that that's what he's been doing nights. So he could've done it all along, he just chose not to.

He starts talking to his daughter.
_Well what's the matter with that?_
    She wasn't there.
He was obviously a time traveler using a bluetooth earpiece and iPhone.

Subways in new York.wow half the people having a bean lunch and the smell would make people gag and hold their noses and half of them when you would look at them would smile after a big ripper.

Funny scene, especially Edith's "How did you know that" ... but what's been edited out here when Mike sits on the sofa? There's clearly a cut there.

Edited for continuity on the appendix topic... I wasn't going to upload the entire episode.

@@batmanmmv Fair enough. As it is, episodes from this show get deleted from RUclips sooner or later anyway by the studio/owner.

Sometimes Edith had air between her ears, let's face it. Many times she was the smartest of the buch. Especially when she put Archie in his place.

exactly brandon. the top 2 shows of all time 1- seinfeld, 2- AITF. the rest are in the dust. as much as i looooooooooooooooove Archie and this show, and i grew up with it as a kid in the 70s, and i loved it so much, that i've seen each episode probably 13x.. what a show!!.. but having said that, and as much as i love archie, nothing comes close to Seinfeld. man, what a show. there will NEVER be a show again like Seinfeld. even if we live to 200 yrs of age. 2 great written shows here, but seinfeld is in a league of its own. .although AITF was great. i loved those 4 together (edith, arch, gloria and mike).. archie is the KING though. he destroys kramer and george as tv characters.

Brandon Salvati Other than Seinfeld? You can't possibly be serious! Seinfeld was Good, but can't even come close to this. It's sort of like All in the family was the Beatles, and Seinfeld was the Stones. ..

It would have been funnier if he said farted. I think the word fart was banned at the time this episode was first "aired."

It is funnier when it is not said. That was a key element of older comedy.

Now that I think about it, it is sometimes funnier when something is implied rather than described bluntly. It makes you want to watch an episode two or more times because there are subtle jokes you missed the first time. It's why I used to watch 1990s episodes of The Simpsons when it was in syndication on weekdays. It was usually an episode I already seen, but it's so jam-packed with humor that I missed the first time. Nonetheless, it's difficult to think of a fart scene from any TV show that hasn't been funny.
