  • The recent passing of Tina Turner got me wondering about her best albums. She had a very interesting career in rock, pop and even country. What are the 5 best Tina Turner albums?

I can't hear Private Dancer without thinking of my friend putting it on the jukebox at the blue-collar neighborhood bar we were at and singing along drunk. It's a happy memory, haha. Plus it's an awesome song.
Boy, Phil's ego on full display in that photo, huh? Apparently he paid Ike not to be present. I can't imagine those personalities clashing. I can see why Phil considered the song his masterpiece. It just so "grand," thanks in large part to Tina's intense vocals!

Hey man! I’m writing a book on Tina right now - she’s my #1. You made an excellent fiver and I would say if you took out those excellent live albums (Live @ Carnegie Hall - 1971 is another excellent one and Ike & Tina’s only US - Certified Gold album) I would say that #5 and #4 could be Wildest Dreams and Acid Queen, respectively. Both are excellent listens. Also, her country album is a gem untold; the album title is a great TRIPLE entendre & the irony about the album is she was - in a rare occurrence one of seven, not five women - nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance, Female for this performance, one of several nominations Ike & Tina got that year. Aretha would win that year for the ninth or tenth consecutive time. Tonight (I’ll Be Staying) is my favorite from the album.
Btw; the version of “Let’s Dance” you didn’t know was by Chris Montez. It was a top ten hit in the early 70’s.

Nice video. I have the mono and stereo versions of RDMH, and for me the stereo version of the song RDMH is far more amazing in stereo (yes, even though Spector is the Master of Mono). It has clarity, a tight soundstage and lots of punch. The mono version sounds too muddy and cluttered for my taste. I’d been seeking out a killer mix of that song forever, including the UK 45 single, and finally HEARD it when I scored a minty copy of the stereo issue.

I completely agree with you! I have a 1st UK Mono of that album and a 1970 German stereo which beats the UK Mono beyond belief.
