We should be focusing all of our efforts on formulating a defense to combat these threats and also working towards settling other planets as currently we have a single point of failure and we should look at ways to ensure the survival of humanity should the worst happen. Its also interesting to consider that we may have little to no warning of a potential impact as the asteroid may be hidden by the Suns luminescence if it approaches from that direction.
