Thanks for the video. I have the XT3, 10-24, 18-55 and the 55-200. It is certainly a budget set of lenses. I am looking at the 16-80 OIS WR as my everyday walk around lens.
I have streamlined my own kit to a pair of X-T3's, 10-24, 16-55, 50-140 + 1.4X, 100-400. Selling off all my primes that I just never reached for. One comment - I have replaced the fujifilm lens bracket on both the longer zooms with the after market Haoge versions, They cut down on the extra bulk of of adding an arca plate and are very well made. Enjoy your videos, great stuff. ( I also have an X100F that is a joy to use )
I truly enjoy your videos they are quite informative. I’ve been shooting Fuji since about February. I sold all my canon gear and it’s a new world I’ve been shooting professionally over 20 years with Canon. I really enjoyed your Yosemite images keep up the good work
I enjoy your honest and simple presentations. Get the point across with minimal drama. I am going to get the brick. I have the 16-80 f4 as travel lens but for high quality landscapes, It lacks the quality.
Thanks G.E.M for mentioning the 16mm. In fact, I was a little surprised that he didn’t mention that lens for once. I understand he only focused on zoom lenses but 16 mm has a wonderful niche for both landscape and astro photography.
My first zoom trinity was 10-24mm 18-135mm & 100-400mm added 1.4x & 2x converters. I’ve since added 8-16mm f2.8 16-55mm f2.8 & 50-140mm f2.8 personally I still prefer the first trinity. I have also collected a full set of primes apart from the XF200mm f2.0And recently now added the Zeiss Touit Trinity I simply loving the Fuji X system of cameras and glass strangely enough my least favourite zoom is the XF 16-55mm f2.8 Red Badge and my least used !
I would love to see the tutorials! Just moved away from a Nikon full frame setup to the XT4 and this was exactly what I needed to help decide where to go beyond the 18-55mm kit lens! Thank you!
Great recommendation. Love both the 10-24 f4 and the 16-55 f2.8 and usually that’s all I need. If I need a telezoom, the 55-200 suffices; the 50-140 is too big and unwieldy for me and I don’t shoot tele all that much anyway. For astro, I use the 14mm f2.8. Nice vid!
Hey bro, this popped up on my feed. This is exactly what I had planned on striving for in the upcoming years. Glad to see some more reasoning on the decisions than I normally find. If I had a suggestion for upcoming video. I think comparing the XT3 and XT4 in every way thinkable would be interesting to me. As well as testing the IBIS on red badge lenses, testing the focusing, the HDR feature, battery range in various modes etc.
the rokinon 12mm seems to be a winner for many applications. i have it for my sony a6400, and might get it for the XT4 for real estate photo work and landscape, astro...
10-24, 16-55, and the 50-140 is mostly my kit. I had the 55-200 which is nice but I sold it once I got my 50-140. The 50-140 was just better. Yes it is heavy but my current hiking kit is the 10-24 with the primes, laowa 65mm and 27mm. I am waiting on the 70-300 which I would like to add at a later time.
Really kool info here. I still love my XF18-55mm kit lens to do all my cinematic videos in my channel. Thanks for sharing. Nice lineup. Keep it up bro!
Just dropped by. What a lovely family you have, and such great skills. I think the difference in iq will be negligable for video, and with a body without IS, i think many would choose the 18-55 over its red badge counterpart.
thanks for great review. Those are my 3 lenses that I hike around with...have many of the others lenses and more, but that is the three I carry most...The images you shared were absolutely superb. Cheers
Thanks for a very useful video. I was not aware of the Fujinon 8-16mm f/2.8 WR zoom until I watched your video. For landscapes with my Fuji X, I normally use: Fujinon 50-140mm f/2.8 WR Fujinon 16-55mm f/2.8 WR Zeiss 12mm f/2.8 If I ever need to replace my 12mm Zeiss, the 8-16 Fuji, will be the first lens I consider.
I chose the 10-24 f/4 (WR version) and the 16-80 f/4 for four reasons: 1. they are both WR lenses, 2. they both have OIS, 3. they both use 72mm filters (so I have to carry only one set of filters), and 4. they are about half the weight of the 8-16 f/2.8 and 16-55 f/2.8 lenses. I still can't decide on a telephoto lens.
Considering cost, weight and performance Id argue 16-80 F4 and 50-140 F2.8 make a reasonable set. Adding the 10-24 F4 for wide angle seems like the only reasonable option if youre just trying to cover the standard range.
Mate, as I got into the Fuji system, I saved, and saved, and saved for the 50-140. Finally bought one, and have been in lock down ever since. Aaarrggghhhh. . .
Congrats on the lens! Hopefully you'll get to use it a bit more soon! I've only been shooting locally myself, but have found some hidden gems near where I live. Local exploration can surprise you.
Thanks for the comment, Dale 🙏🙂 I love that 16mm f1.4 too! Not much for landscape, but for people shots. I don't own it right now but will likely get it again down the road. I've not yet tried the 16-80, but could see that pairing well with the 100-400 and a wide zoom for another Trinity alternative. So many great Fuji lenses, wish I could have them all, Lol
The 16mm1.4 is a very tricky lens... By definition it's a wide angle lens but surprisingly lots of shooters use it for street and portraits... I personally use it for architecture and urban environment/landscape shots where the subjects of my work are no closer than 20 meters and no further than let's say 150-200 meters. I wouldn't choose this lens for very-very wide open mountain scapes either ... But for cities, the 16mm1.4 is like a dream.
I've tried the 10-24mm for some days but I didn't like the images taken with this lens. I've chosen the prime 14mm, less versatile but it's an excellent lens for landscape and the image quality is superb. The 14mm focal length for me is perfect for mostly wide angle shoots and the lens is very light and compact. Now I'm considering a tele zoom, I'm oriented to the 55-200 for the cost and weight. The 50-140 really tempts me, but I don't know how it fits on the xt30 and I don't know if it worths the money spent for a non professional use like mine
nice! haven't tried the 14mm myself, but heard good things about it. I think you would be happy with the 55-200mm. You will save cost and weight for sure and can get images very similar to the 50-140mm with a little extra post processing. The 50-140 is hard to explain, but it really is a great lens, but yeah, if you are not a pixel peeper like me, I think you should be fine. If I only could choose the 55-200mm, I wouldn't be mad. Great reach, IQ, light, and lower price.
I have tried the 50-140 on my XT30. If you are shooting it on a tripod, it really isn't much of a problem as it comes with a tripod foot. If shooting hand held with the T30, it's not going to be comfortable for a whole day shoot, i.e. wedding, but although unbalanced, it is still manageable for shorter shooting sessions handheld.
Very nice review! I just subscribed to your site. I'm waiting to receive the x-t4 w/16-80mm lens. Your review has me wanting too try the 10-24mm. Keep up the good work, I'll be looking👀 for more of your videos. 😊
excellent video and beautiful pictures. Looking forward for new videos. And off course I would like to see your processing technique :-) greetings from Prague
Thanks, Peter! I appreciate the comment! make sure to subscribe to stay up to date on those new videos! I'll probably still make them even if no one responds bc teaching helps me learn too 🙏🙂
Excellent reviews and advice for those with deep pockets I have most of Fujifilms Len’s the exceptions being XF 8-16mm XF16-80mm XF55-200mm which I have covered with existing lenses or primes the only other lens I really desire from Fuji is the XF200mm f2.0 I had the Nikon one before moving back Fuji with the X system although I Still own all the Finepix Pro bodies from the beginning of the 21stCentuary starting with the S1pro and the next three generations. 👍
nice! I used to have the S5 Pro back in 09 and 10. Really great sensor in that one. Amazing how far cameras have come regarding speed and dynamic range. The 200mm is a very interesting lens, too. Enjoy your Fuji!
Just received my X-T4 and the ibis is brilliant. I have the 10-24, 16-80, 55-200 and my favourite kens 35f2. I have owned the 50-140 which is my ultimate favourite lens but if the upcoming 70-350 is anywhere near the quality then I will swap my 55-200 with this next lens funds permitting.
Congrats on the XT4! would love to try that out myself soon to see how it compares with the T3. Do you envision taking advantage of the IBIS mainly for video or stills or both? ooh...70-350 sounds awesome! Thanks for the comment 🙏
The Magical Landscape . I am foremost a stills photographer but as I have got older handshake gets more difficult to control and ibis was one of my main reasons to upgrade including the Classic Neg film simulation which is wonderful. Shooting at 1/15 sec is looking quite promising. I had an X-T3 and X-Pro2 and they both produced fabulous results but I think the confidence I have with being able to use the X-T4 to the full will result in a greater hit rate.
@@SolidMGSnake I just looked this up myself...looks like it's a rumor, but 70-300...from fujirumors.com "According to latest rumors, Fujifilm currently is working on the XF 70-300mm X-mount lens for Fujifilm mirrorless camera. This will be a new super telephoto zoom lens for Fujifilm mirrorless cameras. Currently, there is no info about the aperture of this lens. If this lens will be a compact lens, the aperture would be around f/4.5-5.6. Stay tuned for more info."
I have similar setup 10-24/16-55/50-140 for landscape, except for Stage Photography 50-140/X-T2 is glue to my camera and 16-55/X-T20 on the messenger bag... Sometimes using 2 bodies more practical in several occasions...
thanks for the comment Yan! yeah, 2 bodies can be very helpful. Even in landscape when switching lenses in a dusty environment might be risky! How do you like your Fuji compared to other cameras you've used?
@@themagicallandscape I came from several brand Nikon F100 & Leica R8 from Analog Film era, several DSLR Canon APS-C and my last Systems before switch to Fuji was Canon 6D, as you know Canon Dynamic range at that time especially 6D were awful lots of banding when we try to boost the shadow, my goal is doing prints for my home gallery 24mp like fuji were more than enough for A3Plus size prints, always happy with the Fuji result...plus the retro looks body soo cool hahahaha...
Ahahah I have the 18-55 and my next will be the 55-200 and later this year the samyang 12mmf2! What do you say about this combo? I think the 55-200 will be a better buy before the 12mm, i miss some shots because of only have 55 for now
@@DiogoFilipeR Nice! That combo sounds good...I say get the 55-200mm before the wide angle, that's just me tho. I have been getting into more intimate close ups of the landscape and the telephoto works well for that. For the wide end, with the 18 you can do some micro panoramic shots to help you for now if needed. Thanks for the comment!
@@themagicallandscape yes, by only having the 18-55 I miss more shots because of only have maximum of 55mm than less than 18. I just bought the 55-200 from e-infinity yesterday ahah waiting for it now
I have the 10-24, it barely leaves my camera, it’s that good! But it really depends on your need. I do a lot of wide landscape photography and timelaps, so it is the perfect lens for me.
Great choices BUT try lugging all that weight around, especially when going up mountains. Without doubt they are superb lenses, one of which I do own (10-24mm), where my mid-mange is the standard kit lens, as is the 55-200mm purely due to the reduction in gms that I don't have to drag up the slopes. Andy Mumford, who shoots the same lenses, convinced me that was the way to go as proven by his photos which are outstanding.
I use the Zeiss (Touit) 12 mm f/2.8 with my X-T1 for Landscape. Frequently, I will carry this combination when I am cycling in a scenic location. I would be interested in your opinion of this lens?
Hmmm...can't speak on the Zeiss, but I do have the Samyang 12mm f2. I've only had it for a week and will do a quick review of that soon. I like it so far, esp at the low cost. 12mm is plenty wide for landscapes while cycling around. I had the Samyang with me on a bike ride and loved the compact size.
@@themagicallandscape I carry my camera in a Traffic 24/7 Sling Bag and it works well. The Fuji 27 mm pancake lens is another good one for bicycling. The Sling Bag allows for quick access to the camera and this is important when you encounter Wildlife on the road. I was able to get a good photo of bear cub with this combination. Also, X-T1 is lighter than my X-T2. By the way, I just bought a new Graphite Silver Edition of the X-T1 for $500. See the deal here: ( www.ebay.com/itm/193404868525). The Fuji 27 mm lenses are relatively inexpensive. They are little slow to focus, but, the image quality is very good considering that this lens is tiny. You can find used Traffic 24/7 sling bags on Ebay for a good price. I live in WV and we have some very scenic cycling routes. Check out the Cycling Scenic WV website here: ( www.cyclingscenicwv.com/). I recommend searching by County and look at the routes in Monroe County.
I prefer the small size and weight of primes. I love taking macros with my 16mm f1.4 or panoramas by stitching a bunch of 23mm frames... (and yes, I did notice the 23mm box in the background 😉). The only zoom I got is the 55-200mm, and I love it. The aperture of the 50-140mm is overkill for landscape and because of it, it is too heavy for a long hiking trip. If landscape is all you are doing, then that is the wrong lens to get imho. I mean, would others who view your pictures even see the difference? The 55-200mm is the cheaper and more fitting to the task alternative, and has more range as well.
Thanks for the comment...Yeah, that 16mm f1.4 is a very nice lens for close up/macro. If you are willing to adapt a lens, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is quite amazing for that, too. I agree, 2.8 aperture is not needed for most landscapes and I don't think others viewing my shots would notice the difference...the thing is that I personally notice when I'm on my computer screen and I am one of those weirdos that really enjoys pixel peeping, LOL, which is why I often debate on going back to full frame. I love Fuji tho bc it's such a great experience to use. Enjoy your Fuji!
@@themagicallandscape Actually, I sold my Sigma 18-35 Tank along with my Canon 70D when I switched to Fuji. I never owned both simultaneously, so I never tried to adopt the sigma. I do pixel peep a lot myself, there nothing weird about that. 🧐 I switched to Fuji in order to have lighter and smaller gear, so it makes no sense to then get the heaviest Fuji lenses out there. The 55-200mm is a really good performer and a perfect match for me. Yeah, you could drive your kid to school in a Lamborghini... but is that really the best option? 😁 Even the XC 50-230 is a decent performer when you got enough light. Dude, that thing is tiny! I'd love to have that instead, but the f6.7 at the far end was way too dark for my liking. A friend of mine has it and coming from a smartphone camera, he is over the moon with his setup. So I guess there is no "the best lens" because the best may be the lightest for one person, and the highest image quality for another.
I disagree with your choice on the 50-140. The 55-200 will hold its own any day against the 50-140. You don’t need an f 2.8 for landscape and imho the micro contrast isn’t that different. I would pick the 55-200 any day over the 50-140 for landscape.
Price and weight do speak to the benefits of the XF10-24mm. But , despite it's high price and greater weight, the XF8-16mm lens provides vastly better image quality within the 8-16mm focal length range. In particular, it's to all intents and purposes distortion free if correctly used right to the widest 8mm end. Aside from landscape work, it is peerless for for wide angle ARCHITECTURAL photography - not least indoor architectural work where the faster f2.8 constant aperture comes into its own. So if you are an architectural photographer, it's a "must have" - if you can afford it- lens. It's only beaten at 16mm by the 16mm prime.
thanks for the comment! I agree...the lack of distortion in the 8-16mm is VERY impressive. I normally have to correct my horizons in other wides I've had in the past where as the 8-16mm I didn't. I agree on the 16mm 1.4 being sharper too...I did some tests on household items when I was deciding which one to sell, haha. Ended up selling both...If I could keep them all I would! 😂
@@quikee9195 haven't tried that one yet. I've normally gone with zooms for most of my landscape work no matter which system I've used...I can see the draw of primes as they are typically smaller and lighter. And fun to use!
Just found your channel and I'm looking forward to your future content --- interesting you use the 50-140 for the purpose of landscape. It seems most X shooters side with the smaller 55-200 for all-day treks in the wilderness. Nevertheless, the 50-140 is the one that draws more of my saliva. For as long as these Red Badge sales have been going on, I've been thinking about picking it up. The 8-16 too but I don't know if I fancy myself an UWA guy. Since I got my XT-3 in '18, the 16-55 has been my hiking companion and pretty much nothing else. Wanting to venture into other forms of photography, I picked up a used 90 f/2 at a great price. It could work for some shots, but fixed focal lengths are rather limiting for landscape. Would you side with the 50-140 over the 16-55 if you could only bring out one lens?
Hard to pick one. For me personally, it depends on where I'm going. There are times when I only bring the 16-55 and times when I only bring the 50-140mm. For dedicated photo trips I bring both. If I were to buy only one, I would go with the 16-55 bc I do like to shoot wide. I mean, if you really only want to go with one lens, the 16-80mm will be more versatile focal length wise. I don't know much about that lens, though. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your Fuji!
@@themagicallandscape Thanks for the response! Yes, the 16-80 has a near ideal focal range. But, I know this lens all too well. I had great hopes for it. While it has a lot going for it, I was disappointed with its performance at the wide end (like 16-20mm). Unfortunately, I operate a lot around these focal lengths. Most of the time, I could discern it was softer than the 16-55 without even having to zoom in. I wound up returning the 16-80. A month later, I did something I never do (and won't again). I bought a second copy of the 16-80. It performed the same as the first. Anyhow, I'm still on the fence about getting the 50-140. I used it once, for like an hour, and loved it. I rather not spend the money now, but I know such a sale seldom comes around.
Good vlog thank you. I have bought the 16-80 FX zoom and in general am pleased with its performance though am finding issues with it for long exposure shots unless I turn the OIS mode (no switch) off in the menu settings. Do you use Enhanced Details in Lightroom for processing your Fuji X Trans files or perhaps another pp plugin / software ?
I now use Capture One Pro 20. I found it the best for Fuji files where I don't even need to think about artifacts or smeary details anymore vs Lightroom. Enhanced details works fine tho if that's all you have. Thanks for watching!
Hey how about this 16-80 f4 for Landscape & low light photography...it has an image stabilization too compared to the 16-55 f2.8... just want feedback as planning for one probably post Lockdown...Thanks !
Honestly have never tried the 16-80, but I think it will be ok for landscape from what I've read. Low light??? Not too sure how much the IS will buy you. It's supposed to get you 6 stops when paired with the XT4, but that might be only best case scenario as I've tested some lenses that are supposed to give 6.5 stops and I'm not getting that result.
I don't miss full frame for low light, bc the XT3 is pretty good for that...I barely shoot milky way, but if I do it's on a star tracker. I do miss the level of detail and just overall crispness of the files, which is why I often debate going back. Fuji is so great with colors and user experience, tho.
🙏 I wouldn't call it a low light lens, but it does ok in low light. I've shot MIlky Way with it and it's fine. The OIS can maybe get down to 1/10th sec on the wide end or better with good technique.
All the recommendations are so good!!! I recently bought the xt4 body only which I regret I should've bought the kit. as someone new to the photography world and into landscape photography, I am confused whether I should get the primes first or the zoom? what do you think?...
Congrats on the XT4! I like the zooms for landscape, personally just because I don't like changing lenses out in the field. Zooms are more versatile if you can't change your position, which does happen in landscape. Primes are more fun to me though, smaller and lighter, generally. If you are new and just starting out, you could pick up a used 18-55mm kit lens if you don't want to spend too much...it's actually a great lens and hard to see a difference in the middle focal ranges vs the 16-55. go about and shoot and take the files into Lightroom and check to see what focal length you shot at most frequently to get an idea on what focal length prime might be most useful to your style. Just a thought. Many will sway you to primes first. No right or wrong answer really, but evaluate what you will be shooting before buying.
Thanks for the video. Yes, I would like to see a video on the photo editing. With the larger lenses like the 50-140; do you think it is safe to carry with a standard camera strap? I have seen some strap systems that will attach to the mount on the lens. Does it make a difference with a lens this size or only on some of the bigger full frame lenses? Thanks!
Thanks for the comment! I think for the 50-140, a standard strap should work fine. I actually just use a peak design wrist strap to keep it from dropping in case it slips. Make sure to test out what ever you are using before hand to make sure it's secure i.e. test over a bed. I think that the straps that hook to the bottom of then lens can help with balance and comfort.
Great fujinon lens recommendation. I am considering to upgrade my gear first from X-T1 to X-T3 (or X-T4?). I have already Fujinon 10-24mm, 23mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2 R and 90mm f2.0 my budget recently for gear upgrade but 50-140mm f2.8 is one of my target "red-badge" fujinon lens.
Great video! I was wondering if you own the new 70-300? If so, what are your thoughts about it for landscape? 50-140 is tempting but the the 70-300 would complement my 16-80 nicely.
I now have the 70-300 and it will be my telephoto zoom moving forward. I just got it and used it for one landscape shoot, and really like the range. The IQ is great, it's lightweight, and I think it will pair very nicely with the 16-80. The focal range comes in very handy and I believe you can use the Teleconverters, unlike the 55-200, which can't.
Thanks for the response, good to hear that landscape shooters use it. I hope that it will soon be available around here. I went on a hike yesterday and realized again how important weight and size really is, as i got out of breath rather quickly lol And tele's are indeed a nice plus
Unfortunately the 16-55 f 2,8 has no IS. Many people will buy the xt 4 in order to shoot also freehand video because its ibis, its better eye-autofocus and the recording performance with 4 K. For video ibis+Is together is still better than only ibis. Therefore I missed your meaning about the Fujinon 16-80 f 4.
Arguably, you don’t need a standard zoom if you have a wide zoom and telezoom. I feel like for the majority of the shot, you are going for that special look offer by the two wide and tele zooms. A standard zoom is only gonna take up space in your bag IMO.
That is a very good point. I used to go with just those 2 lenses. I like filling in the gap just in case, but if one really wants to cut to 2 lenses, you could possibly check the lightroom stats to see which focal ranges are used most by you and go from there. Thanks for the insight 🙏
Before I watch I'm going to guess that the recommended lenses are the ones I use for landscapes photography. The 10-24mm f4, the 16-55mm f2.8 and the 50-140mm f2.8.
I am surprised that nobody mentioned the 14mm lens, which is excellent. It has very good image quality, offers a relatively wide angle, has very little distortion, and is not heavy.
Thanks Joe! The Fuji system is a great system and that XT4 is very tempting! Let me know if you need more info to help you decide...I'm not married to Fuji so I don't mind sharing my honest thoughts on it. 🙏🙂
oh, ok...yeah, it's been a while, but I have used the 1.4x with both the 50-140 and the 100-400mm. I think it worked ok for what I needed. Probably more useful with the 100-400mm. It degrades IQ a little, but not a deal breaker for me. Maybe for some. I don't have it anymore, though.
I've never tried the 16-80. Been wanting to try it. It's supposed to be at least as good as or slightly better IQ wise vs the 18-55mm, which I like. If you don't need f2.8, I would give it a try. It would pair well with the new 70-300 or 100-400mm for a full range landscape kit, IMO.
@@themagicallandscape Thanks for input. I got the xt3 with the 16-80 and although there are some positives (same filter size as 10-24 and 50-140, ois is solid, and weather sealed) I find it can be quite soft, even stopped down. Been thinking the 16-55 may be a nice upgrade for IQ and the f2.8 is really nice if taking indoor shots and even Astro on a star tracker. Kinda bummed the filter size is different though.
Not sure I see the value of a 2.8 with landscape (except astro). I never shoot any of mine at that f stop. I've got Olympus and Fuji - Olympus weight dif probably an advantage over Fuji. I like yhe 55-200 on my XT4 ;-)
thanks for the comment! Yes, I have used the 16mm f1.4, 23mm f1.4 and f2, 35mm f1.4 and f2. All are very solid as for most of my personal landscape work I am stopping down to f8. my least favorite was 16mm, but I love that lens for everything else. The 23mm offerings are solid! I still prefer the versatility of zooms when out in the field, but primes are very fun and lightweight if you don't mind changing lenses.
@@themagicallandscape I have the 16-55mm 2.8 and i've used that for my landscape. I was thinking of doing more landscape and was considering the 10--24 but due to my current budget, I'm considering getting a rokinon 10m F2 lens instead. Thoughts?
@@TheWongReviewer I haven't tried that lens yet, but I've had a photo friend that likes the 12mm for astro. The 10 seems like a good option if you like to shoot ultra wide only occasionally, but for me I do prefer versatility of not having to change lenses as much. You could try it and it you feel it's limiting, then just sell the Rok for the 10-24 when ready.
Thanks, Andrew! I use a combo of programs depending on need, Lightroom, Capture One Pro 20, and Photoshop...Capture One is the best for developing Fujifilm .raf files and I would highly recommend that if you are going to stick with Fuji X Series. I even like it for my non Fuji cameras...It can't replace Photoshop, but it comes VERY close for certain needs especially with Luminosity Masks now, layers, color masks, and now they announced they've made some improvements to the clone tool. It's generally just a fun piece of software to use and matches the fun nature of Fuji cameras very well.
I have one tutorial on a sunset: ruclips.net/video/OlrFZY_PKow/видео.html, but I'm likely not going to make another one for a while, as my work schedule doesn't allow for much RUclips time anymore, unfortunately.
I have the 18-55mm and I am so confused between the 10-24 and 55-200. I plan on getting both but the budget does not allow me to get them at the same time. Just donno which one to get first. I do mainly urban and some nature. I love taking wide angle shots but at the same time I am looking to zoom and I am limited with the 55 on my 18-55. Any suggestions will be of great help.
You mean the teleconverters? If yes, then yeah I've tried the 1.4x. Limited use, but for my use it was ok. Maybe it softened the image a little, but I didn't mind for my purposes.
nice! haha...yeah, that is a very iconic shot done many times by many photographers. hey, if you hiked that far over all those boulders, you have to get it even as unoriginal as it is, Lol
man...the 50-140mm is calling my name for my red badge zoom. im getting the XT4 with the 16-80 kit (my first fuji coming over from sony aps-c), and while I could dig the 16-55 2.8 for sure, I think I need the 10-24 f/4 in my arsenal (or a 3rd party lens but i don't know if there really is one w/ AF). gonna be a tough one, but I'm trying to keep it down to 3-4 lenses. the 16mm 1.4 is calling my name for sure too. the new Viltrox AF stuff is looking nice, and I wonder if Sigma will be making lenses for Fuji mount now that FUJI has opened up their system to 3rd party lens companies!!! I ordered my XT4 w/ 16-80 about a month ago and hope I can get it by June, but it will be here soon enough :)))
IT was a hard decision to get the 16-80 kit (I almost didn;t want either kit options but of the current two, and since it's so new, and comes pretty dang cheap w/ a camera body the 16-80 made a lot of sense). I DO want the 16-55 2.8 but am having a hard time balancing out which ones I will need/use the most. I do want some zoom beyond 80mm if I can get it in my bag. So, that is sort of the reason why I'm ruling out eh 16-55 2.8 but I know I'd be into it...
congrats on getting the XT4. So many good choices...wish I could have them all, haha. Always comes down to your needs so ask what you will use the lens for, then decide. I've owned and sold many lenses bc I just wanted them, but never really had a practical purpose to own them. 50-140 is great tho...Enjoy your Fuji!
I wish I could try that 200mm lens, but I would have to spend my own money to buy or rent that beast...Hey, if you know someone from Fuji or B&H, let me know, Lol...Thanks for the comment! Saw your question regarding the 8-16, I really liked it, but the IQ bump, though there, did not match the price. The wider angle was really fun, too, but I didn't use it much. As mentioned in the video, if I had no budget and never used filters, I wouldn't mind it, but I do want value and versatility as well, which the XF 10-24 gives. If I think about the Sony G Master 16-35, that was/is more than a 2 grand lens, but the IQ with full frame especially with the A7R series is REALLY there. With Fuji, IMO, one must consider value, price, and weight as spending more on a premium lens will still not be leaps and bounds over the more budget options in terms of IQ, IMO, and in my own personal use which is primarily landscape stopped down to f8 or smaller. That's why I feel you can pick just one Red Badge lens that you see yourself using most and still be happy with the less expensive and lighter alternative for the rest of your kit. 🙏
I have recently bought fuji XT200.. it's is fairly beginner camera compared to xt 3 or 2. I have kit lens xc 15-45 and xc 35mm f2 prime. I wanted to add a good telephoto zoom lens for landscape and astro photography. I am really confused here. Which lens would you recommend? Ultra wide zoom or telephoto zoom.
That's a tough one. I like the 70-300 right now since I don't shoot much wide at the moment. For a budget wide angle lens that can also shoot astro, consider the Samyang 12mm f2. I have a video about it...
@@themagicallandscape thanks for your reply. If I want to replace my 15-45mm kit lens.. what should I replace it with?? 15-45 struggles alot in night time Autofocus. Shall I look for Tamron 18-300?? It technically covers complete spectrum. But there are not much reviews about that currently with Fujifilm cameras. Fuji lens are pretty expensive in India.
18-300 seems interesting. It's not out yet, right? As far as AF in low light, not sure if changing the lens will help a ton as it can be body dependent too. I think the XT4 can focus down to -7ev, but also has to be paired with a fast lens.
@@themagicallandscape oh ok..18-300 is out at someplaces..saw few reviews of it... If autofocus is entirely dependent on body, then I have far inferior body then xt4 ..that's is xt-200 😁
I really like that lens, but personally when shooting landscapes, I like zooms for the versatility and not having to switch lenses out in the field as often. Thanks for watching 🙏
i owe all three red badge lens that U MENTION fuji 10-24 f4.0 is to slow for me i also have 18-88mm kit lens whcih i gave it to my daughter ANY Company that come by making series of red badge holytrinity lens then U NEED TO LOOK IN TO because that what it meant to be
thanks for the comment 🙏 I've never used the XH Series. I agree it is somewhat front heavy on the XT series, but certainly not unmanageable, especially on a tripod for landscape photo. I have mounted the brick on the XT30...now that would be uncomfortable for a whole day of handheld use, but again for landscape on a tripod, still doable. If you are doing a lot of handheld, then the OIS will certainly make more sense and 18-55 would be great for that or XH or T4. There is no perfect lens, and one must consider their needs before purchase. As a note I have tried the 16-55 on my Weebill S gimbal with very smooth results...heavy, but stable.
yeah, that XT4 has me very tempted as I do want to get into and learn video more! I think you will be very happy with those options for video. I used the 18-55 for the product shots in this video and was impressed. The 55-200 has impressive reach for such a lightweight lens.
@@themagicallandscape would love to have 16-55 coz it's 2.8 constant, but i guess 18-55 mm with extra IS is a bonus. The reach is what i need for sports hope that 55-200 will do coz next lens is heavy 100-400mm
I had the 16-55 on my xt3. Great lens but too heavy and without is. Now my "holy trinity" for my landscape shots are 10-24/16-80/100-400 ;-)
Nice! Yeah, that is a great combo as well! I wouldn't mind having that set up. You tempted me now to switch it up, haha
I have the 10-24, 16-55, 50-140, 23f2, 35f2, 50f2 and 80f2.8 ,Xpro2 and Xt3! I love Fujifilm!
Thanks for the comment! That's quite a lens set...Enjoy your Fuji!
Thanks for the video. I have the XT3, 10-24, 18-55 and the 55-200. It is certainly a budget set of lenses. I am looking at
the 16-80 OIS WR as my everyday walk around lens.
I was using all three of those lenses with my XT2 a while back. It's a great trio to keep it lightweight! Thanks for the comment 🙏
That is a great kit you have 👍 Thanks for the tip on the lens bracket and thanks for viewing 🙏
I truly enjoy your videos they are quite informative. I’ve been shooting Fuji since about February. I sold all my canon gear and it’s a new world I’ve been shooting professionally over 20 years with Canon. I really enjoyed your Yosemite images keep up the good work
Thanks for viewing 🙏 I really appreciate it!
I enjoy your honest and simple presentations. Get the point across with minimal drama. I am going to get the brick. I have the 16-80 f4 as travel lens but for high quality landscapes, It lacks the quality.
The 55 to 200 goes with me on landscape shooting. I also love the 16 1.4.
I have both of those now, too, and they are amazing lenses!
I have also collected a full set of primes apart from the XF200mm f2.0And recently now added the Zeiss Touit Trinity
I simply loving the Fuji X system of cameras and glass strangely enough my least favourite zoom is the XF 16-55mm f2.8 Red Badge and my least used !
Thank you, your explanations are clear, relevant and interesting. I would love to watch your tutorials!!
What a fantastic video! Well put together, great advice! I will be for sure checking out the rest of your videos!
Awesome, thank you!
Nice vid!
Thanks for watching 🙏😀
All agreed, except I'd use the 55-200 MM which is a great, light lens.
As well as testing the IBIS on red badge lenses, testing the focusing, the HDR feature, battery range in various modes etc.
thanks for the suggestion...I will try to compare the XT3 to XT4 as much as I can. 🙏
the rokinon 12mm seems to be a winner for many applications. i have it for my sony a6400, and might get it for the XT4 for real estate photo work and landscape, astro...
I am waiting on the 70-300 which I would like to add at a later time.
oh, yeah...that 70-300 is interesting. Thanks for watching 🙏
Really kool info here. I still love my XF18-55mm kit lens to do all my cinematic videos in my channel. Thanks for sharing. Nice lineup. Keep it up bro!
Thanks, Ron! I still have that lens, too! I think I'm gonna keep it for a while.
Cheers
Many thanks! 😀 Really appreciate the kind words 🙏
I have all those, except I prefer the 55-200mm on the long end better than the 55-140mm. I don’t see the advantage of the 2.8 for landscapes.
Why not go for the 70-300 instead?
It wasn't out at the time the video was published. But I do like that lens 👍
Thanks for a very useful video.
I was not aware of the Fujinon 8-16mm f/2.8 WR zoom until I watched your video.
For landscapes with my Fuji X, I normally use:
Fujinon 50-140mm f/2.8 WR
Fujinon 16-55mm f/2.8 WR
Zeiss 12mm f/2.8
If I ever need to replace my 12mm Zeiss, the 8-16 Fuji, will be the first lens I consider.
Thank you! What a nice, compact review with examples!
thanks for the comment 😀🙏
Really helpful reviews and straightforward! Keep it coming!
Thanks! 🙂
Local exploration can surprise you.
hey! 👋🏻 saw your comment on Vanessa Laus video and decided to pop by! Awesome content! Keep crushing it ❤️!
XF16-80 is a great Landscape lens . My favourite one though is the 16mmf1.4.
A top video and great choice of lenses. I agree with the 3 you chose, all brilliant lenses 👍🙏
thanks 😀
Thanks for your advice!
Very nice review! I just subscribed to your site. I'm waiting to receive the x-t4 w/16-80mm lens. Your review has me wanting too try the 10-24mm.
Keep up the good work, I'll be looking👀 for more of your videos. 😊
Thanks! Appreciate the sub and the comments! Enjoy that new XT4!
excellent video and beautiful pictures. Looking forward for new videos. And off course I would like to see your processing technique :-) greetings from Prague

Great video man, bravo
I can't find anything about a 70-350 coming out. Is that a rumor or what
@@SolidMGSnake I just looked this up myself...looks like it's a rumor, but 70-300...from fujirumors.com "According to latest rumors, Fujifilm currently is working on the XF 70-300mm X-mount lens for Fujifilm mirrorless camera. This will be a new super telephoto zoom lens for Fujifilm mirrorless cameras.
Currently, there is no info about the aperture of this lens. If this lens will be a compact lens, the aperture would be around f/4.5-5.6. Stay tuned for more info."

thanks for the comment Yan! yeah, 2 bodies can be very helpful.

I feel like I have the poor man's version of this trinity...hahaha. Samyang 12mmf2, 18-55mm and the 55-200mm. The lens I really want here is the 10-24
Lol...that's still a good set up. Lightweight and you have the f2 on the Samyang!
I do a lot of wide landscape photography and timelaps, so it is the perfect lens for me.
very interesting watching you video. i like x-t4 and I am using it now.

-Great recomendation, my trinity is 18-55 50-230 and 10-24
Fantastic review, thank you
Great lens intro for the XF system. Thanks!
thanks for watching 🙏 Enjoy your Fuji!
I would pick the 55-200 any day over the 50-140 for landscape.
great video, just subscribed, greetings from Vancouver Island
thanks! really appreciate it 🙏🙂
Price and weight do speak to the benefits of the XF10-24mm.
@@themagicallandscape Did you try the Laowa 9mm Zero-D ?
U don't miss your full frame during landscape photography, especially in low light situations since you moved from Full Frame to APS-C...
I don't miss full frame for low light, bc the XT3 is pretty good for that...I barely shoot milky way, but if I do it's on a star tracker. I do miss the level of detail and just overall crispness of the files, which is why I often debate going back. Fuji is so great with colors and user experience, tho.
Would be nice to see a comparative video between your Full Frame & Fujifilm photography since you have used both sometime...👍
there is a video I've made. Click on my channel and it's maybe the 3rd or 4th of my newest videos? I think.
Thanks, clear review. The 10 - 24 looks pretty good. Does it hold up well in low light?
🙏 I wouldn't call it a low light lens, but it does ok in low light. I've shot MIlky Way with it and it's fine. The OIS can maybe get down to 1/10th sec on the wide end or better with good technique.
Thank you. Great video, lots of good i fo.
@@themagicallandscape Thanks so much! That's really helpful and definitely helped set my mind on which way to go.
Thanks 🙏 Wow...that is quite a nice lens line up you have! XT3 and XT4 are both great cameras 👍
Good tips for a switcher from full frame . (Like me in the midst now)
Thanks for watching 🙏🙂
Great video! I was wondering if you own the new 70-300? If so, what are your thoughts about it for landscape? 50-140 is tempting but the the 70-300 would complement my 16-80 nicely.
I now have the 70-300 and it will be my telephoto zoom moving forward. I just got it and used it for one landscape shoot, and really like the range. The IQ is great, it's lightweight, and I think it will pair very nicely with the 16-80. The focal range comes in very handy and I believe you can use the Teleconverters, unlike the 55-200, which can't.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Thanks for the response, good to hear that landscape shooters use it. I hope that it will soon be available around here. I went on a hike yesterday and realized again how important weight and size really is, as i got out of breath rather quickly lol
And tele's are indeed a nice plus
Indeed, but no OIS on the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16-55 mm f/2,8 R LM WR: Good reason to upgrade to X-T4. The other lenses are very versatile, with OIS.
I agree...XT4 pairs very nicely with the 16-55mm. Thanks for the comment 🙏
Thanks for all the great info, here!
Amazing shots!!
Thank You 😀🙏
Arguably, you don’t need a standard zoom if you have a wide zoom and telezoom.
Great video. I love them all 3. I use the last 2 the most. Keep them going.
Thanks for the comment! Enjoy your Fuji!
I am surprised that nobody mentioned the 14mm lens, which is excellent. It has very good image quality, offers a relatively wide angle, has very little distortion, and is not heavy.
Nice video!
Your photos are beautiful. Trust.
Awesome video. im thinking about getting the XT 4. Please make a tutorial.
Thanks Joe! The Fuji system is a great system and that XT4 is very tempting! Let me know if you need more info to help you decide...I'm not married to Fuji so I don't mind sharing my honest thoughts on it. 🙏🙂
Great video, do you see best sharpness on the 16-55 and 50-140 also at f8 like the 10-24?
Hello sir... If I am into both of landscape & portrait... which lens should I buy? thanks in advance!
Have you tried one of the extenders with the 50-140, by any chance? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
Have not tried it yet. Likely won't as I hardly do any macro right now.
@@themagicallandscape oops, I meant teleconverter (1.4x or 2x)
oh, ok...yeah, it's been a while, but I have used the 1.4x with both the 50-140 and the 100-400mm. I think it worked ok for what I needed. Probably more useful with the 100-400mm. It degrades IQ a little, but not a deal breaker for me. Maybe for some. I don't have it anymore, though.
Great video! For the standard zoom lens I'm curious your opinion on the 16-80 f4 vs the 16-55mm f2.8?
Great video and explanation! Have you used any prime lenses for landscape photography?
thanks for the comment!
@@themagicallandscape Thanks for the prompt responses. Great advice. I just subbed. Looking forward to more of your content. Keep it up.
@@TheWongReviewer thanks 🙏🏼
Cool video. What image processing software do you use?
Thanks, Andrew! I use a combo of programs depending on need, Lightroom, Capture One Pro 20, and Photoshop...Capture One is the best for developing Fujifilm .raf files and I would highly recommend that if you are going to stick with Fuji X Series. I even like it for my non Fuji cameras...It can't replace Photoshop, but it comes VERY close for certain needs especially with Luminosity Masks now, layers, color masks, and now they announced they've made some improvements to the clone tool. It's generally just a fun piece of software to use and matches the fun nature of Fuji cameras very well.
excelente gracias por compartir, saludos desde Venezuela....
Gracias por ver 🙏
I would love to see some tutorials on how you edit images!
Hey broi... 55-200 lens is good for portrait and landscape
I agree...so many great options in the Fuji line up! Might end up picking that lens up again, haha
Do you have experience with using a multiplier on the long zoom?
You mean the teleconverters? If yes, then yeah I've tried the 1.4x. Limited use, but for my use it was ok. Maybe it softened the image a little, but I didn't mind for my purposes.
LOL we took the same shot of you first zion photo at 1:43
nice! haha...yeah, that is a very iconic shot done many times by many photographers. hey, if you hiked that far over all those boulders, you have to get it even as unoriginal as it is, Lol
man...the 50-140mm is calling my name for my red badge zoom. im getting the XT4 with the 16-80 kit (my first fuji coming over from sony aps-c), and while I could dig the 16-55 2.8 for sure, I think I need the 10-24 f/4 in my arsenal (or a 3rd party lens but i don't know if there really is one w/ AF). gonna be a tough one, but I'm trying to keep it down to 3-4 lenses. the 16mm 1.4 is calling my name for sure too. the new Viltrox AF stuff is looking nice, and I wonder if Sigma will be making lenses for Fuji mount now that FUJI has opened up their system to 3rd party lens companies!!!
Do you have a review about the 200mm f/2 lens?
Curious that you didn't mention 16mm f/1.4
I really like that lens, but personally when shooting landscapes, I like zooms for the versatility and not having to switch lenses out in the field as often. Thanks for watching 🙏
Same here
i owe all three red badge lens that U MENTION fuji 10-24 f4.0 is to slow for me i also have 18-88mm kit lens whcih i gave it to my daughter ANY Company that come by making series of red badge holytrinity lens then U NEED TO LOOK IN TO because that what it meant to be
xf16-55 is made for XH series. It's too heavy and uncomfortable to handle on a XT series body. Besides it doesn't have ois.
thanks for the comment 🙏 I've never used the XH Series.
I think i will be the new Fuji owner soon with xt4 mostly for video, but i was thinking of buying 18-55 kit, 10-24mm and 55-200 for more reach
yeah, that XT4 has me very tempted as I do want to get into and learn video more!
@@kaiting1981 Don't sleep on the 18-55 'kit' lens...it really is an awesome lens
