Great video.. These do work with limited capacity.. Not true three phase as more like two phase with time limited three phase capacitor output.. Once the machine is up and running the three phase motor runs technically on 2 phase only once the capacitors are depleted of power.. Confusing I know but think of them as rechargeable batteries that recharge when the Clark PC is on standby. If like me you have a Lathe with a Dual Speed motor then this is of no use because the five wire harness in such machines has a blue neutral powered wire in your motor that has to connected to enable brake/stopping of the motor.. If you leave it disconnected then on powering off the motor it will run on for quite some time until it eventually stops.. NOT Ideal if you plan using a mill, band saw or in my case a lathe and certainly not safe in case of needed emergency stop. If however your machine has a manual brake system then you could use the Clark PC convertor with caution.. Bonus is you can plug n play using this convertor without severe wiring modifications to the machines safety switches i.e safety guards, opening doors etc that disable the machine when lifted or opened..
Pro's and con's to all these set ups..

      Hi mate,
Thanks for your explanation. I am in the process of getting a haas mini mill, which requires 3 pahse power, what do you recommend in such case? Thank you

IMPORTANT FOLKS ! Before we all get excited about having a 3 phase supply please read on. These converters don't provide a genuine true 3 phase supply, but will run 3 phase MOTORS .. They are unsuitable for heaters , welding machines and other such devices.. They are only suitable for motors.
One phase they provide is the true single phase from your wall socket . Clever phase shifting circuitry provides and second and a third by charging up capacitors when you switch on and then discharging the current around the third winding on the 3 phase motor thus starting the motor to turn. By the time the capacitors have discharged that third motor winding is now doing nothing but the motor continues to spin on two phases ( the 'true' phase and second 'trick phase'.) The motor will run quite happily on this arrangement but obviously at a reduced horsepower due to one phase winding of the motor doing nothing..
They are good devices enabling you to buy up great value 3 phase powered machines that sell cheap on the second hand market when commercial users sell them on replacing them with new plant that can be put against tax..
If you didn't understand the science earlier, just remember that these static phase converters will ONLY RUN MOTORS.

... if i see correct, this is a transformer that steps up from 230 to 415 volt( loadless) ~400 with full load.
Plus 30 condensers to create the 3rd phase...
Isnt more easy to create as many machines have a 230v 3phase with just one condenser (~4μFarad).
For many machines its enough to work, because the speed is in any case related to the 50 hertz...
Better would be a device that creates 3P- 1N -1PE...?! But i guess you need a generator like for old elevators ( 1 1phase motor drives a 3 phase generator)...

Thanks for the video Sean. I'm building a new workshop next year so I looked into 3-phase power for possible future machinery.
Cost to bring 3-phase to my home = $ 1,000,000.00 CDN (conservative estimate by an expert). Nearest source of 3-phase is 6 kilometers away.

If you leave the blue neutral disconnected then the motor will spin a very long time to eventually stopping when you switch off.. Not ideal on saws, mills, lathes etc with no manual brake stop..
