Why is everyone saying Cersei "unintentionally" shaded Joffery. Cersei KNEW Joffery was a monster. She feared the day he would be king. She loved him but that only made watching his cruelty even harder. If anything, she was afraid of him being killed by his own people...which is exactly what happened. She warned Sansa and practically begged her to take the same abuse she did & begged Joffery not to do what she knew he could. She knows Tommen is kind but weak. If anything, this is one of Cersei's most vulnerable moments. When she tries to plead and not use force.
Exactly. Cersei’s love for her children wasn’t conditional. Basically no matter what they did she still loved them-even if she didn’t like what they were doing. Joffrey even insulted her multiple times-which was the one thing she truly hated, she wasn’t the type of person to care enough to do something for others, but if SHE was humiliated then she would move mountains to take revenge. Well even when Joffrey insulted her directly and publicly-she still didn’t do anything to him. And that’s just crazy for her, she never lets that slide-only her children she lets slide. It’s the same with all of Joffrey’s behavior. She doesn’t like it, but ultimately she will protect him no matter what. It’s one of the kind of scary things about Cersei. Because she will not do anything ultimately to stop her children-even when they’re someone like Joffrey.
Well said, people are just blinded by their disdain of the character, they are just hating on her for the sake of it, not trying to see his complexity.

Tommen would win the heart of the people with his good nature, Tyrion would not be loved but would give good advise since Tommen lacked cleverness and was easily manipulated
Cersei isn't nearly as clever as she thinks she is, but she's no fool. Everything she's saying is 100% correct, but she knows that any sign of agreement from Margaery would be a sign of treason.

@@trzynasty909 he wasn’t “too fragile”, he was just a kid. If Tywin had stayed alive and somehow taken Cersei out pf the picture, he likely would’ve molded Tommen into an excellent king.

Rip to Tommen. Everyone used him and he was just an innocent kid that tried his best. He wanted to please everyone. But if Tywin was his main advisor or had more control over him, then he definitely would’ve turned out to be a good king. He’s naturally a good hearted person and with Tywin’s teachings and mentorship, he would’ve become a lot better.
Funny how cersei claimed she was staying in King's landing to keep him safe.....but ended up being the reason for his suffering and his suicide. She brought the faith militant to power, which then took over. She was the driving force behind Tyrion's trial, she was the one who introduced Tywin and Shae. She's the reason Tywin wasn't around to shut down the faith militant and she's the one who killed everyone at the sept, which is what made Tommen kill himself. She's the architect of her own suffering.
I was always under the impression that Shae was working for Tywin all along. The way that she and Tyrion came together was just a little too “pat” for me…
Ngl, she might be a psychopathic narcissist, but that shot of Cersei looming in front of Margaery as Margaery gives eyes at Tommen is the most relateable parent shit ever.
Margery has grown on me. Check this out: Ser Loras was teaching Tommen how to joust. He taught him how to hold the lance and everything. So Cersei’s walking up from her council meeting that by smart people standards went horribly wrong. She sees Tommen jousting and freaks out. Whilst Margery and her companions are praising Tommen Cersei says “I expect nothing less. Your father ruled the lists I suspect that you will do the same”. Margery laughs coyly and says “oh I have no doubt your grace. But I never knew king Robert was so accomplished at the lists, pray tell what tournaments has he won, who has he defeated?” Cersei was caught out and had to bluff her way out lol
@@prettyuglysupernovarudegur2310 yeah it’s in the books. Book 4 A Feast for Crows. It’s right after Cersei falls for Wyman Manderly’s trick with Davos. She sends him his son Willas who was hostage at Harrenhal, she drops the ball on the Most Devout and the High Septon selection and she pisses off the Iron Bank.
Cersei's being uncharacteristically open and vulnerable here, even if it's a ploy. I think she's begging Margery to keep him on track, she knows she's already lost her grip on Tommen.
This was more manipulation than vunerability. Yes, she was very honest and they were her true feelings. However, sharing it with Margaery was VERY deliberate. Had Margaerys father not have been a judge on Tyrions trial she would not have shared these true misgivings. When she confided her feelings about Joffrey to Tyrion, it was an unplanned, raw and likely resented act of desperation. Tyrion was the ONLY person she had to talk to and with stannis coming, was in a desperate situation.
That shows that Cersei knows that Joffrey was a bad king, a bad person, and never deserved to be king. She knows, despite her own lack of morality. The scene where she was talking with Tyrion about her late husband being hard but never cruel, unlike Joffrey, shows that she knows too.
She has a moral compass as displayed in instances were she found Joffrey actions awful. She even is somewhat uneasy about her own actions but needs to convince herself that they are necessary.
@@treehouse2902most of what Cersei cared about was Cersei. She cared about her children quite a bit but for the most part, it was all about her and what she wanted and what she wanted her children to want. I feel like the times Cersei is most compassionate, honest, and true is when she talks about her children, even when admitting that she knew what kind of a monster Joffrey was, she still had a kind of compassion in her. Tyrion was right, she did have one redeeming quality, and it was her loving her children.
Margaery never got enough credit for how she played the game. Such an underrated character. She could have foiled Cersei's plans if they had listened to her.
She was doing everything to lay down her own foundations for power (unlike Cersei at her age). In 50 years? In she implying that the last one to deserve it was the targaryens?? Either the mad king or earlier she's implying that her family never deserved it and neither did Robert lmao
Yes, Sherlock, that's what she's (obviously) implying lol. For a bit of SOIAF wiki history on who she might have actually meant to be the previously last decent king: The King to rule 50 years before would have been Aegon V. He ruled from 233 to 259 A.C. Joffrey died in 300 A.C. Aegon was a very popular King among the small folk, so what Cersei said makes sense. He also was (kind of) elected and was only the 3rd in line for the throne initially. He also married for love and allowed his children to do the same. The only other "decent" King after that would have been Jahaerys II, who only ruled for 3 years and was very sickly but was allegedly a decent enough King. Interesting side note: Aegon V also was the one to knight Barristan Selmy. The knight who later store his loyalty to Daenerys. Really gives you an idea how old Selmy truly is.
Tommen may have been kind but he lacked a backbone. No way Joffrey would have let Margaery and Loras or Cersai get thrown in prison by the High Sparrow. He would have had the High Sparrows head hanging from the gates of the Red Keep for all to see .
Sadly true, Geoffrey had the backbone when it came to giving out orders, but Geoffrey was a coward on a one to one basis. Tommans could stand his ground on a one to one, but lacked a spine when it came to standing up to a group. Geoffrey thrived off his power, it made him more cruel than he was anyway. Tomman didn't want the throne and he was always frightened of his power. Margery was a good influence on him, it's a shame Cersei couldn't accept that
It's not that Tommen didn't have a backbone. It's that he was himself religious, being part of the sect that imprisoned Cersei. He held the High Sparrow's counsel above that of his own advisors, essentially a theocratic monarch.

Cersei is the cause of all her children dying, she is absolutely despicable and her acts would even have shocked her father.
I think Margery and Tommen might have actually surrendered to Daenerys. They certainly wouldnt have executed Missandei in front of her. They probably would have headed Tyrion's warning that resistance would end with King's Landing in ruins. Euron wouldnt have been allowed anything with them, nor would he have been interested with an already-married queen. They probably wouldnt have worked with Qyburn- no Scorpions. Not sure how long the High Sparrow would continue for. Either the Crown and Faith really would've united, or the Crown would have destroyed the Sparrows along with him. If Tommen surrendered the crown to Dany, she probably would have eliminated the High Sparrow the moment he attempted to make a power move. She is as exacting as Cersi, as people-smart as Margery, and with Tyrion by her side she would have come up with a good strategy. Cersei knew full well that Margaery was winning Tommen over and was a threat to her influence, and that there was little she could do about it.
She was more waiting for Cersei to say something cruel and her glance was more "get it out already". She was prepping herself for a combative conversation .

Margery has grown on me. Check this out:
Ser Loras was teaching Tommen how to joust.

@@thanosalaarson8290 wow
So she's EXTRA dumb in the books eh?
Cersei's being uncharacteristically open and vulnerable here, even if it's a ploy. I think she's begging Margery to keep him on track, she knows she's already lost her grip on Tommen.
She had very many moments of vulnerability
This was more manipulation than vunerability. Yes, she was very honest and they were her true feelings. However, sharing it with Margaery was VERY deliberate. Had Margaerys father not have been a judge on Tyrions trial she would not have shared these true misgivings. When she confided her feelings about Joffrey to Tyrion, it was an unplanned, raw and likely resented act of desperation. Tyrion was the ONLY person she had to talk to and with stannis coming, was in a desperate situation.
Manipulation disguised as vulnerability, not the first time she's done it.
Remember with Oberyn ? During Tyrion's trial ?
Margaery: exist
Cercei: and i took that personally
That shows that Cersei knows that Joffrey was a bad king, a bad person, and never deserved to be king. She knows, despite her own lack of morality. The scene where she was talking with Tyrion about her late husband being hard but never cruel, unlike Joffrey, shows that she knows too.
Which in turn shows she does have morality
She has a moral compass as displayed in instances were she found Joffrey actions awful. She even is somewhat uneasy about her own actions but needs to convince herself that they are necessary.

For a bit of SOIAF wiki history on who she might have actually meant to be the previously last decent king:
The King to rule 50 years before would have been Aegon V.
That's exactly what she's implying beacuse she talks with a Tyrell, Cersei knows that Margaery is not stupid.
Yes the Targaryen king aegon v and rhaegar deserved it
Tbf Aerys II was a good king in the beginning…. He just went crazy
It's not an implication that's exactly what she means.
@@grindingtheaxe3027 I disagree. He allowed himself to be controlled by the High Sparrow while letting his Queen , Brother in law and mother rot in a cell . No way that would have occurred if Robert or even Joffrey were King .

At the beginning of the show Cersei is the Queen, she has three children with whom she seems to have a good relationship, her father is alive and in a position of power, her brother/lover is also alive.
Her playing the game leads the entirety of the seven kingdoms into war. She pushes Joffrey further into his cruelty or at the least fails to prevent it which leads to his death. She then blames Tyrion which leads to the death of Oberyn which gets Myrcella killed. The entire episode also pushes Tyrion closer to the edge leading to him eventually killing Tywin. Without Tywin Cersei begins losing her power and control and resorts to murdering Margery which leads to Tommen killing himself. She goes back on her promise to help fight the white walkers and kills Missandei which led directly to her and Jaime’s death in the Red Keep as well as the destruction of King’s Landing.
