    Cersei is so inept. Tywin used this intimidation tactic 1:10 only on people over whom he had full dominance, he never used it on any of his rivals. Tywin himself spoke charismatically to Olenna because he understood full well that she herself is a powerful woman. Lannisters might be stronger than Tyrells, but it's not a house the Lannisters can defeat without a serious cost.

      "So, Ned Stark was right the whole time! I'm so embarrased to see my family legacy ruined because of you two!"
      "That dwarf Tyrion is still alive and he's the tallest Lannister now!"
      "You, Jaime, is this the reason why you don't marry? Because you're in love with your twin? What is wrong with you?"
      "And, Cersei. Where do I even begin? Fine! You are spoiled princess who's been dreaming for a long time and only likes to drink wine! Power is power? No, my dumb daughter! You need knowledge to gain power! That's why I was always studying in every aspect to learn every enemy and their history. She picked up the writing or pretending to write tactic from Tywin. He's shown multiple times writing or do something else to show the person he's speaking to is barely worth his attention as a way of displaying dominance and of course Cersei thinks of herself as "Tywin with teats". and Tywin was always right about Cersei -- he didn't disrespect her because she's a woman. In fact, Tywin never showed disrespect to women -- he refused to allow Joffrey to humiliate Sansa, he enjoyed Arya's company and treated her with more respect than any of the other men in the kingdom. He disrespected Cersei because she thinks she's smarter than she is. And right here.. . she is so sure she knows what will happen. She knows nothing.

    • @theboard3476

      Yeah and that’s what makes it funny. Tywin legitimately had important things to write down and was drafting/passing legislation because he was actually smart and had responsibilities. All Cersei took way from that was a tactic that Olenna (who also is smart) saw right through. Tywin was right about his daughter, she always thought she was smarter than she really was.

      Everyone assumes she’s at least smart and politically savvy and they assume that she knows the dangers her plans could cause and how they could spectacularly blow up in her face.
      They don’t factor in that she is in fact a short sighted and impulsive idiot who takes the first chance she can get to take down an enemy, and thus don’t assume she’ll make a move that will hurt them but in the end hurt her more.

    I do like the arc of this scene. Cersei "play acting" Tywin even down to his mannerisms but failing badly in even understanding the short sighted self destructive approach of her actions. Her writing obviously just to show off was the perfect look back to Tywin. With one move she lost close to half of her military support and made an enemy out of her most important ally. Cersei was dangerous like a thug is. Cruel and able to do anything but at the same time too stupid to lead anyone or anything. But Olenna, a fellow equal in the gift of gab and necessary ally, wasn’t one to be put in her place. She was an equal player on the negotiating table, requiring the respect and caution required. It was how Tywin allowed jabs at him during the verbal skirmish and still win. Cersei, on the other hand, didn’t seem to get the memo that she was dealing with a strategic powerhouse….or rather several. The one person she shouldn’t have treated as lesser on the negotiating table and she did it without a second thought, showing her narcissistic view. This scene is interesting when you look at it from the perspective of what each Lannister child received from their father Tywin. Jaime got his martial skill, Tyrion his wit and intelligence, and Cersei his ruthlessness.
    These things together made Tywin an apt politician and player of the game, yet apart? Well it becomes rather clear through Cersei how ruthlessness alone isn’t what made Tywin as successful as he was.

    But like.... how did King's Landing become a desert. Look at all the trees around it here. In season 7 the trees weren't there either but at least there was grass when the Unsullied assembled outside the walls. In 8 there were no trees, not even stumps. So you can't even argue they chopped them down for firewood for the Winter or to keep the trees back so enemies can't use then for cover.

    Interestingly, Cersei is quick to accuse Olenna of making underhanded comments, which were actually very blunt,
    Then she herself does exactly that;
    "House Lannister has no rivals."
    What she's actually saying here, is that she doesn't see their house as being challenging enough to consider them as a valid rival.
    Notice, Olenna picks up on it, doesn't say another word,
    And instead, almost decides right then and there to plot her revenge on Cersei.
    Besides, if Cersei doesn't see her as a threat, she will never suspect it.

    The countryside around King's Landing sure does look different in S5. All we needed for it to make a _little_ sense in S8 was one line from Qyburn; "At your command, we've stripped the ground bare. Lumber for the scorpions, and no army can approach unseen." Cersei tries hard to be smart, but she really has no idea how to act, she has a power that was given to her just for being her, but she doesn't have the ability to use it to her advantage and ends up hurting herself. . . She doesn't tolerate frustration when her plans go awry, she doesn't want to take the consequences of her actions because that's exactly how she grew up and was raised. Idiotic choice? She is a way more interesting & complex Villain than most of The one from The Show. Definetely The most well acted and also well-written (This one for The first 6-7 seasons). She is understimated by others but also she overstimated herself and This itself makes an affascinatinh dualism that lead to unpredictable actions, choice & more from her. You don’t know what she might do and it makes you have some pre-thinking and critics (clapping for her, think what she will do might be cool, rolling The eyes thinking that it might be a stupid thing) and then she surprise you by either doing the opposite of what you thought or did exactly what you had in mind but bigger and with a plot-twist/easter egg that leaves you mouthgaping.
