Oh my goodness, the person responsible for this video did an outstanding job! Can't wait to upgrade Ubuntu on my PC and uni laptop~! And Happy 20th anniversary!
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS #NobleNumbat is a very special release celebrating 20 years of Ubuntu, and we are immensely grateful that you joined us on this journey 🧡
The photos on the desk portray a person's life story from a relationship (0:01) to a marriage (0:05) to a newborn child (0:09) and subsecuent growth (0:13) from an infant (0:14) to a young adult (1:00). Meanwhile a dream of outer space exploration is pursued and eventually achieved (since Canonical's founder Mark Shuttleworth is said to have in fact -literally- travelled to space), and the sports car poster (0:00) is replaced with a spacecraft poster (1:00). 20 years of #Ubuntu, a -literal- lifetime... who else noticed? 👀
I was born four years before the first Ubuntu release. My first experience with Ubuntu was during the release of Ubuntu 16, and now I'm still rocking with Ubuntu 22, planning to upgrade to Ubuntu 24 soon. Anyways, happy 20th anniversary to Ubuntu!
I have been using Ubuntu since I was 15 years old, and now, at the age of 27, as a software developer, I use it every day for my job. Happy 20th anniversary to my favorite distro!
¡Gracias Ubuntu! Ser Linuxero y usar Ubuntu es lo mejor que me ha podido pasar en la vida. Hace 20 años repartimos LiveCds por las calles de Bogotá. Thanks Ubuntu! Being a Linuxer and using Ubuntu is the best thing that could have happened to me in my life. 20 years ago we distributed live CDs through the streets of Bogotá.
My first Linux OS was UBUNTU, maybe around 4 years back for "Focal Fossa". UBUNTU was the only OS for me which said : LINUX CAN'T BE THAT HARD Thank you, Canonical team and congrats for your 20th birthday.
Been a Linux user since kernel 0.6 days back in 1994. Just updated my dev desktop, personal mail and monitoring servers to 24.04 earlier this week, and Ubuntu is better than it’s ever been. Thank you.
The person who edited this video did a sensational job. I'm Brazilian and I use Ubuntu on my notebook and I'm loving the experience. Happy 20th Anniversary Ubuntu!
Congrats! Ubuntu = continues to be smoothest Gnome experience out there due to the triple buffering vsync patches that Daniel Van Vugt developed. Just donated a couple of bucks to celebrate this release. Well done!
The first distro I knew 20 years ago (2004) was Knoppix, but after getting to know Ubuntu in 2006, I used it as the only operating system on my Dell notebook. Congratulations and success to Ubuntu, Canonical, and the team. That's great.
The presentation video is simply brutal!!!! I installed it the day after its release (the 26th). I'm a web developer and I work with JavaScript and its frameworks as well as with Laravel (PHP) and SQL databases. I could see that the new features (especially the app store) are spectacular, but it's STILL VERY UNSTABLE. Some applications were freezing, so I had to restart. I decided to format and reinstall everything from scratch (the 28th). Again the same thing: UNSTABLE. I re-downloaded, reformatted and reinstalled from scratch for the third time, and installed fewer applications (on April 30).... The same thing! Finally, I had to install 22.04 and I'm going to work with this one (which was the one I was already using) for at least the next 6 months, while this new version stabilizes to test again.
Just wanted to say thank you for making Linux accessible and easy to use for me twenty years ago. It was the first time I actually used Linux as a daily driver and got off Windows thanks to you. Ended up using Ubuntu for so many years after that....❤️
Definitivamente Ubuntu es la cara oficial de Linux, la distro que cuando hace algun cambio hace todos volteemos a ver. Feliz 20 aniversario Ubuntu, que viva Ubuntu y Canonical. Saludos desde Republica Dominicana.
Ubuntu was my first Linux experience and it is still my favourite OS. I pretty much install it on every machine I'm tinkering with. Even for my father, who has used Windows all his life, I installed Ubuntu on for his PC needs and there have been no complains so far.
Even though I have my disagreements with Ubuntu and Canonical I cannot ignore the enormous amount of work they put into the linux ecosystem, and for that I am forever grateful!
When I first discovered Ubuntu as a kid during the early to mid 2010s, I was mind-blown. It's amazing that Ubuntu is still alive and kickin', even after 20 years. I congratulate the people who worked on this distro. 🎉
Siempre he 😮usado a Windows desde Xp. Y hace algunos años empecé con Linux. Vaya sorpresa me he llevado. Con su simplicidad y seguridad. Para mí, van en buen camino. Sólo les faltaría integrar algunos programas que sólo están en Windows y Mac OS. Espero con ansias esta nueva actualización.
Ubuntu was my first encounter with Linux. I didnt know anything about Linux, but I liked Ubuntu. I think it was probably 10.04. I then tried "Ubuntu for netbooks" and loved the GUI, which evolved into Unity with 11.04. These were the golden years for Desktop & "personal" Ubuntu, and the future looked bright with Mir, Unity 8 & convergence. It's a shame that the money wasn't in this and that the community didn't really get behind Canonical with these ambitions.
When unity came about Linux actually felt like it was developing it's own identity while remaining easy for anyone to use. I too wish it got the support it deserved. It was such a shame.
How did you guys did such an amazing job on wayland? I've never seen any operating systems to be this smooth. I also have an nvidia gpu and wayland is working like a charm. Good job Canonical👍🏻
My first ubuntu was delived by mail for free on CD disk, it was about 2004 or something like that. It's insane how software and hardware has raised from that time. Typing this message from Ubuntu 23 on my laptop with 20 CPU threads :D
My first Linux was the Yggdrasil in 1992 in order to run a GIS unix software named GRASS. I've been through a number of versions and actually received two cash awards for implementing GIS storage solutions based on Linux in the early 2000s. I just an old mule packer that spent my career working in the large wilderness areas of MT and WY. Linux has been my OS since the olden days of '92. Currently Ubuntu 22.04 and investigating upgrading to 24.04. Believe me, if I can do it YOU can do it. ;-)
I love you Ubuntu! I have been using since 2018. and all the upgrades. In fact. I have all old laptops and desktops that are older than 5 years old, and I cannot bring myself to buy a new machine because I do NOT want Windows. I wish there were really good machines that were sold that are without an OS , so i can add my own. Yes, I know there are some, but frankly, they are all pretty expensive. So I guess in a way, Windows is subsidizing the sale of the computer hardware, so they remain cheap?
Today i switched from Windows 11 to Ubuntu 24.10 (ita dualboot but i main ubuntu) IM LOVING IT! i like it 10 times more than windows and i just need to get used to the terminal and sudo an all. Btw its my first Linux distro
Just started installing ubuntu today, annd it was Triplek A,..... Amazing, Advanced, Absolutely lightweight for my thinkpad x220,,,,,, i feel like it's really match with my laptop, anyway.... Happy 20th anniversary for ubuntu and the team🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Recently completed a new AMD Ryzen Build running Windows 11. At that point, I decided to dual boot Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on my old FX-8300/TA970/RX470 build from 2016. I simply installed it on another "dirt-cheap" little SATA SSD I picked up for that purpose, rather than partitioning the little SATA SSD Windows 10 runs on, or relegating it to the storage HD. I knew I was "probably" going to be disappointed with the Snap system, but gave it a try anyway. Installed Chrome and OBS Studio from their respective sites and their ppa's were added to Ubuntu Software and Updates, then I uninstalled every Snap app I had installed with the Ubuntu App center that loaded slowly or performed below expectation and reinstalled them with the terminal. Now everything looks, loads, and performs flawlessly. "Other than Krita", which I had to uninstall since I would never run a KDE application outside of a securely sand-boxed environment such as Snap, but it consistently crashed when attempting to load a new image. "If" they ever get that that sorted out I'll reinstall the Krita Snap, otherwise I can live without it.
Yeah, some snap programs are unoptimized and will load slowly. But a good amount of them have been properly updated with a newer compression algorithm, and perhaps some extra optimizations. The Firefox snap for example was something lots of people complained about when it released a few years ago, but now I'd say it launches pretty fast. Nowadays I use a good amount of snaps and don't have problems even on a lower end Celeron N4020 laptop. The Krita bug seems to be a new one, when I used it in the past it didn't have that problem, so it's likely that it will get fixed.
