  • A few of you asked us in the comments, which is the better engine / transmission combination in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson or KIA Sportage 5-seat SUV? The 132kW 1.6L 4-cyl Turbo Petrol or the 137kW 2.0L 4-cyl Turbo Diesel? So this week we've done a "Which Would You Choose?" video for you. Let us know which one you would choose?
(Special Thanks to ‪@hyundaiaustralia‬ and ‪@KiaAustralia‬ for our test vehicles)
Cars: 2022 KIA Sportage SX+ (2.0L 4-cyl Turbo Diesel with 8-speed Automatic and AWD) and 2022 Hyundai Tucson Highlander N Line (1.6L 4-cyl Turbo Petrol with 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission and AWD)
    Reviewers; Justin, Matt and Scott

Well this was nice to hear validation that not only did I choose the right car to buy but I also picked the best trim! Go Kia!
Kicking myself that I didn’t pick the Gravity Grey colour though, it’s beautiful!

Great video guys. Thanks for doing a comparison on the mid range specs rather than the top line like all the other videos. Any idea what wait times are like for these cars at the moment?

I drove both engines in Hyundai varient. The diesel engine was really good and the 8 speed auto very smooth. And I am not a diesel guy at all. But the diesel would be my choice.
There was no stock and we bought the 2022 Santa fe 3.5 v6 for 8 thousand dollars more. A lot more car for not much more .

Great fun watching your review, guys.
I would pick the Hyundai Tucson, it just has that “conventional” look for a SUV.

Great video! I just came home from the dealer with a red Tucson Elite 2.0L diesel and loving it so far. As you said these cars are very similar and if you got either you are doing well I think. There will always be minor differences and none of it was a deal breaker for me. The big plus for me was I ordered the car 5 weeks ago and picked it up fast. When I spoke to Kia dealerships their delivery timelines were not so great (otherwise I may have gone with the Sportage).

Very good guys. I have not seen your channel before and will subscribe. This is refreshing in that you are answering questions people will have. Can I say that the sound is not the best. You need to be inside and your mics are not great or the sound is not great.

The extra $ costs for the services on the Kia is paying for the extra 2 Years warranty 🧐😉

We need a hybrid Tucson & Sportage. The only comparable hybrid car in Australia is the RAV4.

Also another thing to add, if your going through finance, kia offer 7 year finance where hyundai is 5 year , so repayments are less for the kia

Fair comparison guys. Looking at these two specifically for our first family car. The wife likes the Sportage more. I don't feel that the diesel is needed with our small commutes as we don't see a lot of long drives. Every reviewer has criticized the 1.6t and gearbox combo. I'm hoping the HEV version that's coming for the Sportage will change that. Great review.

Hi Alex Gerontzos - Thanks for your comments! If you're just needing to get around town have you thought of getting the 2.0L front-wheel drive Sportage like the one we reviewed earlier? It does a good job around town and would save you a fair bit of cash over the diesel or 1.6L turbo petrol? It also comes in SX+ trim too which we think is the sweet spot in the range. We've also heard the HEV version of the Sportage isn't coming until the second half of 2023 and due to supply issues might only be available in top spec GT-Line trim initially too. Thanks for watching!

So in Australia you get the long wheel base for your Kia Sportage. We get the European short wheel base in South Africa. Feeling a bit jealous now.

Biased or not biased? You know that Hyundai own Kia?
My knowledge on drivertrains says, no, here is why.
Why doesn't any reviewer tell you?
No ad-blu, no long drives on a weekly bases, no diesel.
So, no new Hyundai Tuscon or Kia Sportage for many city buyers. The other drivetrains avoid, as the 2liter petrol is in the Kona, underpowered and run from the 1.6l turbo petrols with the dct transmission.
Please put the USA drivetrains in these cars for aussies.
Do your own research and google both cars in the USA and their drivetrains and warranties.
Wake up Australia, overpricing, cost cutting will send Hyundai/Kia broke here.
IMHO buy the Mazda CX5 2.5l Petrol or Petrol Turbo Akera, for the city drivers, and if you drive longer distances get the diesel.
If the Mazda is too small, buy the X-Trail, new model, peace of mind and they both have a HUD(Heads up Display), drive them both.

I'm in the market for a second hand car.
    Option 1:
2021 Tucson Highlander with nline and 1.6ltr turbo engine for $42k on road
    Option 2:
    2020 Mazda CX9 Azami with 23000 Ks
For $42k then plus on road costs.
I'm so confused and have no real mechanically minded help

    • @conradscheepers
      @conradscheepers Год назад

You can't tow with the hybrid I would think. Diesel 8 speed for me any day on both the Kia and Hyundai.
DCT gearbox with dry clutches is not good for city driving.
1.6T petrol is good but 2L petrol is terrible and 7 kW less than previous Tucson.
Best combination is Diesel and 8 speed outo..

Start stop traffic driving a diesel will clog up your dpf, love diesels but regations have destroyed diesel unless you doing a lot of hwy driving, so many are making this mistake and cause them self grief
