Have had the GT Line Hybrid for 4 months now and it’s the best KIA I have owned, so much so I have just ordered a new one for March/April. Worth mentioning that if you go for top spec GT Line S the road tax jumps from £170 to over £500 as it breaks the £40k threshold 🤔 Ok if you are doing lots of mileage but if you do below 20k per year look at the GT Line. Performance is really good, GT Line 1.6 GDI T Hybrid will do 0 - 60 mph in under 7.5 s in sport mode and put a smile on your face. The hybrid comes into its own around town and manoeuvring where it will use totally electric power as often as possible and the little battery is topped up very quickly so is always available for such driving situations. Build quality is really solid and the interior is a nice place to be, far exceeds the competition. I would say the best value small family SUV on the market and I’m not surprised you have fell in love with it. KIA have got their act together with this car and the competition are playing catch up 😉
We have this exact car (colour and all) had it for 2 weeks now. Love it. Absolutely love it. Had the old Sportage GT-Line and this is head and shoulders above it. It's quick, big enough for our family of 4 and as she pointed out, it's very relaxing to drive.
Can I ask what you think of the colour now you have lived with it for a while? Priced one up and it’s in budget, same as this one, but would prefer the white. The red will stay in budget and I do like it. Is it a flat colour or metallic?
@@boothy6957 I still love the colour, think it looks great on the GT-Line S trim with the extra black bits and the glass roof. It's metallic (don't think Kia offers any flat colours on the Sportage). @@boothy6957 yeah the hybrid not the phev. I'm getting about 38mpg on motorway currently, however its only just over 1k miles so not fully run in yet so I'm hoping that figure improves. Motion trim heated seats front and back, parking sensors camera front and back, it has blindspot sensor but it dosen't have a blindspot camera, 18" wheels, two 10"displey screens, 2 usb in front seats, leather/textil seats, front power seats. Seems that it is a decent price tag becauce you get an impressive tech and premium interior features for it. Premium brands’ similarly opted cars are about 50% more expensive. Kia also offers 7 years warranty. I am sure that Kia will exceed their sales targets easily in Europe.
I think this Kia is gorgeous, and the red/black really nice. Looked at kia 3 yrs ago (stuck with Mazda at the time), but at the time Kia body styling was heavily borrowing design cues from other manufacturers, and the ride wasn't to my liking. Though the models I was looking at were packed full of tech. The recent Kia models have their own look and design language, though there are commonalities with other manufacturers (not in a bad way) If I was looking for a car now, I'd get this.

The Kia Sportage has come on so much, the design, styling and everything is so much better and it's becoming very popular. Nicola Hume, you're an excellent reviewer! 👌👌👍
The best car you can buy is one that makes you want to go out and drive it every day, and fits your daily needs of course. If a car cannot make you feel this way, then it's not the one for you. Nicola clearly found the right car for her, at this point in time.
Hi Nicola! The question is, do you still have your Sportage? I always look forward your reviews because I adore your bubbly personality. It's refreshing and fun! I have been a long time owner of VW and when they couldn't offer something worth upgrading to, I ventured to Kia and fell in love with the Sportage. I watched many reviews online but Auto Express is one that I always watch along with others. I decided to place my order for the GT Sportage. I was guttered that the yellow and orange were no longer available. However, I cannot wait to get my hands on the red which I also love. This is a handsome car! Hopefully it arrive Nov 2023.
Lol, in January, we went to buy a Hyundai Tucson but we saw that new sportage next door, sat into it, loved the interior so much that we booked a test drive the following day. Test drived the Tucson as well but the interior of the kia was so much better that we bought the Petrol hybrid, Gt line S in that lovely red. Received it 3rd of March and loving it. I change car every 3 year but will probably keep this one longer. Looking forward to go on our first long journey in it this jubilee weekend. Nicola great choice we had ours since 1st March the first 1.6 turbo mid hybrid GTS, a little tip for you, when changing from Temp to setting the panel with two knobs bless, hold the fan symbol for 15 seconds up will come another lot of signs choose the middle one, it then when using the fan and temp mode will automatically change back to car mode when finished, works really well, also I've added the "s" badge front and rear, after all it is a GTS nerdy but its the little things that make it, enjoy your ride we love it.
I purchased a 2017 Kia SX Turbo for my wife because I wanted her to be as safe as she could be and now the 2024 models are out and I loved that they were even more safe than the 2017 plus much more stylish so I purchase her a new SX prestige model ! She loves it and I am happy because she is even safer than before !
My girlfriend just bought one of these in the US; an X-Line trim. We have never owned a Kia before and wanted to try something different. After a couple issues through the dealer and actually securing the vehicle, we're happy to say, we really like it so far. It's got a couple of things that will bring themselves to bear if you look hard, but otherwise, it's really a competitor in this segment. We've had two CRVs and still have a Forester in the driveway. This new Sportage can hold its own (especially against the CRV). Definitely worth the wait AND the hassle!
@@frankyng4159 We were very lucky. We were originally in line for an EX, but the dealership sold our reservation. Crazy though it may be, we opted for the X-Line AND they gave it to us for the same price as the EX. Obviously, this isn't a normal situation, but the end result was a welcome one. Just another illustration of the crazy times we're living in!
I've just bought a 22 plate Sportage HEV secondhand, same colour as this. I wanted the GT Line S but I really hated the idea of stumping up an extra £600 a year to our lovely government for excise licence because they cost over 40 grand new, but I went to test drive one anyway. Guess what, in 2022 the full-spec car retailed at £39,950, so no extra tax. Win! I chopped in my 2017 Sportage for it, and no regrets whatsoever. The review is smack-on, suits my requirements completely and is a lovely drive. If you're tempted but put off by the extra tax, find a 2022 reg! Nice review... in love with the car too!
I have narrowed down my choices to replace my 2016 A4 Avant. It's between the Sportage and the CX5. The Mazda just feels good to drive but the interior is getting really old. The Sportage is just beautiful inside and out. Not as engaging to drive as the Mazda but with a baby in the back. I think it just doesn't matter. In the end it will come down to which one gives me the best offer.
My brain goes if you're driving an SUV engaging isn't really in the top criteria. I ditched our Sportage for a Optima Estate as needed more room and as with all Kia GT lines the options and finish are exceptional for the money.
Hi Nicola. Wow what a review in fact for this GT line S this is the best review. Oh and i have ordered one about two and a half months ago and like you have to wait for it. I do have the out going Sportage and love it. So your review was excellent and I know exactly why you bought one !!! You are fair in your comments all round and others out there if they know the Sportage will be inspired by your review. Great job by you and thank you.
We baught the Bayon, middle trim and it has all the Kia/Hyundai tech inside. The lane keep is really good, auto emergency break works great. Wireless android /apple. Seat and steering wheel heating, all digital cluster, sport mode, etc. All for 22k Euros. With dealer discount, it was 19,5k. Hyundai / Kia have really come a long way and are among the best now!
I’ve ordered the Kia Sportage 3 which is the middle model. It’s got everything there GT line has plus extra. The specs go in this order 2, GT Lime, 3 GT Line S. I’m not paying an extra £6k for the top spec. I’m happy with the 3. Seems much better than the model I have now 20 plate Sportage 2. More gadgets. Dashboard looks fantastic and I’m getting the splash lemons. Really can’t wait. Might not come till October, November due to when Kia in Korea send orders over. Considering it may be a month or two late isn’t too bad as Land Rover can be a year!!!
I visited the Kia dealer to test drive the EV6. However, delivery was going to be 12 months! I ended up buying a new Sportage PHEV GT-line (that's the top spec in Switzerland), 4x4 with all options. It is available next week and I can't wait after seeing Nicola's review.
Nicola...you are an absolute GEM! I was smiling and your wonderful personality really shone through. Your passion, enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to explain important features was very much appreciated. Agree, this is a fantastic vehicle, tho I might spring for the Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5 (or Genesis GV70 Electric SUV) as I will be trading in my Mazda CX-5 soon... Thank you and keep up the amazing work!
Bought a new Sportage JBL version nearly 2 years ago and have had endless problems including loss of power on motorways due to electrical and mechanical failure - customer care hopeless. Changing back to Nissan as had 9 reliable years with them.
I actually tweeted to the author of an Auto Express review on the new Sportage asking why the adaptive dampers offered in other markets wouldn’t be offered in the UK, and he said that - and I’m quoting directly here - “it's probably down to the UK market aiming for a certain price on the car and choosing the manufacturing variances accordingly.” So maybe that could be why?
@@Attu90 Most likely, as that also reflects what he said about the UK market choosing the variances on manufacturing to aim for a certain price on the car, which is understandable, given that in the UK, cars costing over £40,000 before any discounts and including optional extras are subject to an extra supplementary “luxury tax” on top of the standard tax rate.
Great review Nicola, couldn't agree more with what you say. I was hooked as soon as I saw one in the showroom! Ordered soon after test driving, the full hybrid '3' model. Gutted I've got to wait till September for it!
Hyundai / Kia / Genesis have the best headlight game in the business. The Hyundai Tucson has probably the most distinctive headlights, the boomerang on the Kia is so unique and well executed and the Genesis double bars are so slick and elegant. I'm sure these Hyundai Group designers are being paid well because it's a small detail, but worth every penny..
Great review. Thank you. I need some help please......I ordered a Tuscon Ultimate PHEV in November. The delivery date has been put back (again to August). The Lease company have told me that they have a GT LINE Sportage available. Should I wait for the Tuscon or switch? Lease costs are very similar.
I was immensely impressed on your review Nicola much so I bought the GT line S mild hybrid what an incredible SUV I've always been a Mercedes customer but Kia has completely blown me away by it's looks and completely loaded with technology.
Hope it’s better than my 2021. I traded it in due to sputtering and RPM’ s going up with a big delay when I stepped on the gas pedal. Then the screen kept going black. Only 14,000 miles, feel I dodged a big problem on its way.
How would you compare Sportage to cx-5 when it comes to noise isolation and suspension? I know Mazda has double laminated glass on the sides and Sportage has not.
The Kia is brilliant on the inside, love the back but not so much the front. I think when it comes to hybrid systems, Toyota still has the edge as the Rav4 is able to do at least 10mpg more on average but otherwise, difficult to justify buying Japanese now.
I've just ordered one too. As a replacement for my current three year old Nissan X-Trail. I've always hated electric vehicles of any kind because of the damage done to habitats while strip mining for rare earth metals. But have been persuaded by family to give a mild hybrid a try. With a 1600cc engine to do the work, it shouldn't be much of a hindrance to have a few batteries in reserve. If left to my own devices I'd have gone diesel again. My last six cars have been diesel. I like the idea of running a car on the leftover waste from refining petrol. "Waste not, want not." As they say.
Have the diesel MHEV as a loan car until I can order a new company car. Having come from an X30e X Drive M Sport Pro, it’s a bit of a different beast for sure. I miss the four wheel drive but it’s quite a quick car for a 1.6 but the main difference is having everything touch screen with no iDrive system. At 6’1, my driving position is far enough back for my legs to be comfortable, that to touch the screen I have to lean forward every time I want to do anything media wise which is distracting and annoying to say the least. One other difference from not having physical buttons is the lack of ability to programme short cuts. For example on a BMW, you can programme physical buttons (1-8 under the AC console) for short cuts. I programmed a button to switch the fader on the speakers to the back for when the kids want Disney songs on etc. As far as I can tell, to do the same on the Kia I have to use the touch screen and navigate three sub menus every time. I’ve also found that Android auto randomly disconnects which is so annoying when using google maps at critical parts of a journey. I have also found it quite uncomfortable, no matter what I play around with, my knees always seem to be higher than my hips which results in lower back pain. Other than that, it has a decent amount of space and cubby holes for things, it seems well built and I think the car looks quite cool too. I don’t think I’d choose one over the more expensive brands like BMW or Audi but mainly because of the media interfacing rather than badge snobbery.
when the reviewer buys the car their reviewing you know the car is good. As someone who is one their fourth Kia, I can tell you they are great cars and I will buy this Sportage or the Kia k5 shortly.
A beautiful, beautiful car. Was'nt sure at first with it's boomerang drl's, but, it has grown on me. We had the 3rd gen Sportage 1.7 diesel and we absolutely loved it, but, this one is way, way better. Had a test drive of the GT Line S and we've ordered one. I like the fact that the indicators are in the proper place and not down at the bumper and being a full hybrid it's the best of both worlds, no range anxiety for me, Can't wait for it to arrive and have a good play with it.❤👍👍
Love the 261 BHP you get in sport mode!! I’ve got the new 73 plate PHEV Gt line one in blue flame 🔥 most powerful car I’ve ever driven. Smoked a Audi A6 in it lol 😂 it’s so quick off the lights 🚦
I bought my Kia Sportage 6 years ago so forget this video and I will tell you what when wrong with my car. Nothing absolutely nothing I sit here thinking oh battery needed changing but you do that on most cars when they are older. Oh brake disc NO!!!! windscreen wiper blades shut up. She still looks immaculate inside but I do look after her. My Sportage gets from A to B every time she is the best best car I have ever ever owned. Lets get to the crunch line. Well normally I change my car every 3 years but my beloved Kia no she is staying with me. My brother in law looked it over a few weeks ago his judgement was KEEP IT. But I am drawn to buy the new Sportage why well I am sure you can guess why if you read carefully what I have just said.
There’s a strange noise coming from brakes probably when you want to move it with remote key control. Kia should fix it and it’s also noticeable when you push the brake in slow speed and you can hear the noise . I am willing to buy 2023 Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid soon but this my only concerns .
I was looking at a 9 month wait for a new GT-line but then my dealer called. Apparently a deal fell over and they offered that vehicle to me. It was a change of colour to Junglewood but it cut my wait to 2 weeks. Win!
The Kia Sportage GT line was the first new car I bought in 12 years. They never explained about the petrol cars having a PPF for emissions. The warning lights came on at 800 miles in and I was told to drive fast at low gear, high revs until the warning went off. It never did. They waived the diagnostic fee the first time and couldn’t tell me if I would get charged again if it came back on. I’m not a distance driver, hence the petrol choice. The car is a lovely drive but this has really put me off.
i live in sweden and recently ordered the latest sportage in white color (phev 265hp) of equipment model advance. I have 3 children and a dog and think this car will suit us perfectly. will be interesting to see how much the consumption will be with a phev. thank you for a fantastic review and you made choosing a car much easier. I've always despised the Kia Sportage as they have been so dull and unadventurous, with no distinguishing features. Well this new one blows the old models away! The interior is magnificent and properly premium and it looks sensational. Well done Kia and I can now look at the Sportage as a fun, stylish car
For someone who made very clear that hates touch screen climate controls and loves buttons and dials (with which I agree 100%), I am surprised you bought a car that has exactly what you hate.
The rear end of the European version sportage looks so much better than the longer wheel based version we have here in Australia, it looks a lot smarter
For so long I've really not liked SUVs like these (or faux-by-fours, as I've called them on occasion), but this one is something else. I think I may have just found my next car. It looks fantastic, and the equipment levels look amazing.
Great reviewer- really natural and knowledgeable. I’m having one of these at the end of the year I think. Not sure about that creaky noise though when starting off!… hopefully not too irritating irl.
Would love to know the long-term reliability and how irritating the reversing beep noise gets living with it every day. Our neighbor's Kia turned us off ever getting a Kia because of that reverse bong bong bong.
@@Somethingaboutthat Europe. Most cars don't have a reverse beep, even electric. Which is why this one is infuriating. Though, it does seem it's been made quieter after the car was serviced. Thankfully!

Had mine a month now, lucky one of the first. Her review is spot on.
Thank you and keep up the amazing work!
hi, which one js recommended - GT Petrol or GT-Diesel, I am confused with which one to buy ? Any advise please.
Bought a new Sportage JBL version nearly 2 years ago and have had endless problems including loss of power on motorways due to electrical and mechanical failure - customer care hopeless. Changing back to Nissan as had 9 reliable years with them.
6:54 a different Sportage (the longer version not available in the UK) on the camera display!
Yeah, I noticed that too
Good evening.
Pls tell me what its your fuel consumption for this engine ?( pls its 1.6 ? )
I actually tweeted to the author of an Auto Express review on the new Sportage asking why the adaptive dampers offered in other markets wouldn’t be offered in the UK, and he said that - and I’m quoting directly here - “it's probably down to the UK market aiming for a certain price on the car and choosing the manufacturing variances accordingly.”
So maybe that could be why?
Its probably to keep the price of most models under the Luxury tax threshold.
@@Attu90 Most likely, as that also reflects what he said about the UK market choosing the variances on manufacturing to aim for a certain price on the car, which is understandable, given that in the UK, cars costing over £40,000 before any discounts and including optional extras are subject to an extra supplementary “luxury tax” on top of the standard tax rate.
of course. lowest range cars in serbia is not the same as in UK. why? 50x difference in salaries
I got kia niro 2023 top trim just to have that remote control!!! hev version.
Thanks to your reviews! both cars are quite similar feature wise!
I've never seen this color and must say that it looks stunning.
Which model did you buy?
What is so good? The sound that the car made when it was moved remotely? :D
Nicole....KIA should send you a sales referral check! I believe you are responsible for selling a few of these just on this one review. Nice job!
Great review!.Keep up the good work!
Man, the Sportage literally shelves the Hyundai Tucson in absolutely everything 😮
Which trim sportage did you order
What is "jul screen"?
I've ordered a gt line in white, wish I went for the GTS now
Think you’ll be lucky if it arrives in 4 months. I’ve ordered the AWD GTLine S in Feb and being told Sept to Nov delivery at the earliest
How long do kids engines last? How many miles have gotten?
A beautiful, beautiful car. Was'nt sure at first with it's boomerang drl's, but, it has grown on me. We had the 3rd gen Sportage 1.7 diesel and we absolutely loved it, but, this one is way, way better. Had a test drive of the GT Line S and we've ordered one.
I like the fact that the indicators are in the proper place and not down at the bumper and being a full hybrid it's the best of both worlds, no range anxiety for me, Can't wait for it to arrive and have a good play with it.❤👍👍
I also bought the same model. Very impressive.
Ordered a Dawning Red Sx+. One under GT. No sun roof but in Australia with my bald head didn't think I'd use it. Hopefully deliver Feb.
Great review and nice car !! Congrats Auto Express. You just got one more subscriber~
Great video , yes one year on haha but when you are showing the boot its to dark to see :) but enjoyed the video
This is very much our front runner for our next car now we have a second grandchild on the way!
Any information on the highway mileage specifically at 75mph/120kph and above, especially in the hybrid?
Dear lord!! I pick mine up this week....I CANNOT WAIT
Ours arrives in november! After the test drive it was a no brainer!
Ordered mine in may coming next month, went for the 1.6 diesel not sure if that’s mild hybrid or not but I honestly cannot wait for it to arrive!
I was looking at a 9 month wait for a new GT-line but then my dealer called. Apparently a deal fell over and they offered that vehicle to me. It was a change of colour to Junglewood but it cut my wait to 2 weeks. Win!
Been some really bad issues with the mild hybrid if you read the forums.
Also. Is this the top gear track?
That the top gear test track?
The Kia Sportage GT line was the first new car I bought in 12 years. They never explained about the petrol cars having a PPF for emissions. The warning lights came on at 800 miles in and I was told to drive fast at low gear, high revs until the warning went off. It never did. They waived the diagnostic fee the first time and couldn’t tell me if I would get charged again if it came back on. I’m not a distance driver, hence the petrol choice. The car is a lovely drive but this has really put me off.
Despite the OTT delivery this is actually a very good concise review.
Can't take my eyes off the British Airways 747 in the background. Such a beauty!
My HEV gt line s awd has just arrived. Absolutely love it..
i live in sweden and recently ordered the latest sportage in white color (phev 265hp) of equipment model advance. I have 3 children and a dog and think this car will suit us perfectly. will be interesting to see how much the consumption will be with a phev. thank you for a fantastic review and you made choosing a car much easier. Henrik, Sweden
If I'm looking for a SUV in this price range, I'd pick the new Sportage too. Although I prefer the simpler powertrain, without hybrid or turbo.
I went with the hybrid. No contest on passing power. Fuel mileage is great too. I traded a 2018 GMC Terrain
Is it the top gear test track?🤔
Never really watched this channel but with Nicola the videos are spot on I think viewers will rise good move auto express
Is it 2022 or 2023 ?
Still trying to locate one that I can buy of the 2023 model, prob have to wait until more inventory.
I'm in love with Nicola. As simple as that. And the Sportage is very impresive. But she is sooo much more. Clever, smart, fun...Perfect.
@@Tondaloona03 lol
a very convincing video i must say. well done Nicole. tell us more about the PHEV tech of it pls...
I won’t one to but I will o let be able to lease have you got envy recommendation for compenes
Would love to know the long-term reliability and how irritating the reversing beep noise gets living with it every day. Our neighbor's Kia turned us off ever getting a Kia because of that reverse bong bong bong.
LOL you can turn it off. It's an option in the settings menu.
@@Somethingaboutthat Wrong - certainly not the case on the Niro. Have to unplug a module behind front bumper which voids warranty.
@@snoopycharlie8718 I’m guessing Kia has different options for the rear backup beep based on laws in your locations.
@@Somethingaboutthat Europe. Most cars don't have a reverse beep, even electric. Which is why this one is infuriating. Though, it does seem it's been made quieter after the car was serviced. Thankfully!
What's that funky creeking noise when you use the remote to park???
