  • J1 League champions Yokohama F. Marinos took on Sydney FC in the Japanese side's first Asian Champions League game at home since 2014. This was the experience at Yokohama International Stadium (Nissan Stadium) on a dominant night for Marinos and a testing occasion for the visitors from the A-League.

    Enormous stadium and dancing mascots haha. So much hype leading up to the match. Great info and analysis too. Marinos might be good enough to win the CL if Vissel slip up enough. Great vid👍

      Yeah, the pre-match experience was mad! I was sat in a section almost completely on my own watching a duck mascot dance in front of the only full part of the stadium! Japanese football is a bit random sometimes.
      Good point about Vissel. They could challenge Marinos in the tournament this year. Should be fascinating

    It's a shame, but the attendance for AFC Champions League matches have always been low. The only places where you see sold out stadiums for these matches are in China and Saudi Arabia, for some reason. Generally, Asians tend to stay in during weeknights. But apparently from 2021 AFC are expanding the countries that can play in the group stages, which include teams from the likes of Vietnam, Tajikistan and India, whose teams tend to draw decent crowds for AFC Cup (Asia's equivalent of the Europa League) matches. Unfortunately we are likely going to witness more behind closed door matches next year.

      Yes, really good points. Especially about people staying in during weeknights. League and cup matches in Japan have low attendances on weeknights, too. It'll be interesting to see more teams from different countries join the Champions League group stages. Let's hope the situation will be better by then and we can have more fans back in stadiums

    Good work as always and enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this one! The magic of (Asian) Champions League nights eh! Not sure why but I do keep an eye on the A-League and watch most Melbourne Victory games. Saw Sydney destroy them a few weeks ago but the quality of football (and the atmosphere) is behind the J-League standard. I kind of wish I'd been better organised for going to see one of the A-League teams in this years ACL. Seems like all opportunities have already passed! Shame that the Nissan Stadium was so empty for the arrival of the LiF Japan crew!

      Thank you! It's always a bit of a shame to see such low attendances for the Asian Champions League. I'm not sure what they can do to improve attendances... I think I'll have to watch some more A-League. Would love to get out to Australia to catch a game!

      Getting out to Australia for an ACL game would be really cool. Watching A-League is probably not such a productive use of your time. I'm not sure why I do it really! They just seem to fit in with my schedule quite well

    GREAT!! Thank you for such a good content mate! BTW, reading this month World Soccer magazine, i saw that all the ties of this AFC Champions League group stage involving chinese clubs have been postponed, due to this situation with coronavirus. Its very complicated, and i hope this problem end soon. Cheers mate!

      Thanks! I've got plenty more videos coming out soon. I'm off to two opening round J.League games this weekend. Thanks as always for the support!
      Yes, it's a difficult situation with the Chinese clubs in the Champions League. I don't know what they'll do if the situation doesn't improve. Hopefully things will get better soon

    Maybe the low attendance was due to coronavirus fears?

    • @LostinFootballJapan
      @LostinFootballJapan  4 года назад +2

      Yes, that could have been part of the problem. But I went to an Asian Champions League group match last year at Sanfrecce Hiroshima that only had 2,500 people in attendance, so sometimes these games fail to catch the imagination of the fans
