I have been searching for this and stumble upon your video. Thank you. I knew JLeague from Winning Eleven at early 2000s, so i am familiar with the original JLeague teams but can't understand how they get the name. They sound so unique and catchy. Now i understand.
This video is very very informative & interesting. and now I finally know the meaning of the J.League team Names, Thank you for creating very informative and interesting content like this.
I just can't say something new. Amazing video as always. When I started following japanese football I was surprised to recognize so many soanish words in many teams names. And knowing the exact meaning that the teams tried to give to those words and the other ones from other languages is something I always have wondered. So thank you man
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. The team names in the J.Leagud are really interesting and I like all the influence they've taken from different languages. Spanish words are very popular for J.League teams!
Sometimes I wonder what guys sitting around coming up with the most random and wild stuff even begin the thought process on some of these names. It gets just as wild further down the pyramid too. Great vid and a wonderful way to educate new fans on why the team name may sound like someone having a stroke haha.
I'd love to be in one of these team name meetings. It must be absolutely wild! I think I'll definitely do an episode of this looking at some of the teams below the J.League because, like you say, they're even more inventive! Thanks for the kind words!
Fantastic video! I always wondered where some of the club names came from. The creative names alone make the j league a unique league. And then they are exciting titelraces and great fanbases... Just one of the coolest leagues in the world. Dômô arigatô!
Very interesting video! Just discovered this channel today and I can't stop watching your videos! Maybe the high number of Italian words it's due to in the late 80s and early 90s (when the J League was founded) the Italian league was the most powerful of Europe and a mirror to look at for the Japanese teams?
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that! And that's an interesting idea about the number of Italian words in Japanese team names. It makes sense with the timeline, too.
Interesting stuff and I’ve never actually thought too much about many of those team names! Took me years to realise that Thespakusatsu was literally The Spa Kusatsu as I had been pronouncing the thespa part like the th sound in Thursday! Why they want to use a word like “the” is a mystery to me given that Japanese people generally have trouble pronouncing the ‘th’ sound which instead sounds like “za”.
Yeah, Thespakusatsu used to really confuse me, too! Looks really confusing without punctuation. I don't think I realised what it was until I actually went to watch them!
Thanks! I actually had a ticket for a game at the new Sanga stadium for early 2020. Then all the games got postponed... Hopefully I can get there soon!
I was rewatching the video because I learned a lot with it from one of the leagues I enjoy the most. I come back also to ask you something that maybe you are planning to do in a future video. Yesterday was the official draw of ACL Champions League and I want to know how much impact it have in Japan. I always wondered that because it's amazing how teams like Urawa won that competition twice and lost one final. I mean they should be very proud of that, aren't they? Also I would like to know your personal toughts for the J League season and J League teams in the ACL. It would be interesting also know what do you think about the transfer window etc. I hope you are good and thanks for the content as always.
Thank you! The Asian Champions League has a strange place in Japanese football. Some teams don't take it seriously, especially in the group stages. I think it's because of the travel and lack of financial reward. Urawa are a bit of an exception, and I'd back them to do well in the ACL again this season. For Urawa fans, every competition is serious and they wouldn't accept it if the head coach played a weaker team in the ACL. But I went to a Sanfrecce Hiroshima ACL group stage game a couple of years ago and there were only a couple of thousands fans in attendance and Sanfrecce played a weakened squad. As for my thoughts on the upcoming J.League season, I'll be making a video about that next month. And thanks for the suggestion about an ACL video. I'll look into doing that, too!
@@LostinFootballJapan So interesting, Urawa shows a great pride then. I was a bit shocked last season when Kawasaki that for me was the strongest team in Asia (even after Mitoma and Tanaka leaving) was eliminated that early against Ulsan. Some Spanish magazines interviewed Iniesta and I think he said that for Vissel Kobe is one of the main goals apart of being more regular in the league. I hope this season a J League team win the whole thing, I was hoping Maeda to stay in Yokohama F Marinos because for me is one of the best Japanese strikers in the world and had a chance but now... it would be difficult, I only see Kawasaki Frontale and Vissel Kobe with real chances. Also, I tought Kashima Antlers have a chance to qualify but they didn't appear in the draw, did they?
@@YrbRMA Yes, Vissel Kobe have said their goal is to be the number one team in Asia, so I expect them to really go for the ACL this season. At the moment, only the top three in the league and the winner of the Emperor's Cup qualify for the ACL. So Frontale and Marinos have gone straight into the group stage as the top two, as have Reds for winning the Emperor's Cup. Vissel Kobe have to go through a play-off to reach the group stages because they finished third in the league. Kashima finished fourth, so missed out on the ACL this year. But it can be different depending on what happens in the Emperor's Cup final.
My local team is the Hachinohe!

Kashima Antlers introduced me to J League, but i fell in love with Kawasaki Frontale 💙🐬
Great video! As a newly interested in japanese football person, this channel and its videos are really great! Thank you so much!

the names of the teams in the J League are really eye-catching, feel elegant and cool, thank you for the content

I'm not gonna lie, I do not like that new Gamba Osaka logo
Me neither. I much preferred the old logo
You said the SC in Tochigi SC stands for Sports Club, but on the badge it says Soccer Club
Ah, yes, you're right! Thank you for pointing that out 👍
Great content as always! Looking forward to more groundhopping videos for the new season.
p/s: maybe the new Sanga Stadium next? 🟣⚪

@@LostinFootballJapan true, I forgot Urawa completely and their win against Oita Trinita, bad luck for Kashima
Osaka or Shimizu
