You realize what you are using is not pearl cotton, but embroidery thread.

It typically use DMC Perle Cotton Size 5 for almost all my cording, but I always wind the skeins onto the cards prior to ensure they don't get tangled as I pull out what I need and on video this can look very similar to embroidery floss. :)
