Almost 8 years later, and you are still one of the few men brave enough to attempt this, thank you. I was looking at this for my Trident Tini 3, so I can try and renovate it (forgot it in the washer and dryer twice, as a result, spring action has suffered a bit). Thanks for the great video!
Thank u for this video! Because of SOGs lifetime warranty I sent my Trident Tiger to them for repair. The spring dent return was just flopping around. I got it back to them after explaining my issue. It was the EXACT SAME. They didn’t fix a thing! I took it apart & found the U-spring was just compressed flat. I stretched it back out as well as the other spring, & it’s better than new!! Thanks again!
Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out where the u shaped spring went and I completely missed the ball bearing when cleaning it. Had to fish it out of the P trap on the sink! You saved my favorite knife from the parts bin!
I used this guide to take apart a SOG Trident Mini. It's mostly the same except for a few differences. There are two ball bearings, one for the safety and one for the actuator. There is no U shaped spring as the ball bearing replaced that small spring. Oddly enough there is a slot in the handle for the U-Shaped spring. The pins for the actuator and the safety are free and will fall out along with the safety and actuator. I could not get the ball bearing to drop out, nevertheless I was extremely careful when cleaning. Other than that it's pretty much the same.
Thanks! And yeah I had thought the camera was a little better focused at the time. Its hard to zoom too much and still work on something while keeping it all in frame.
There are differnces between the SOG Trident. series. I used a donor Trident and i noticed small diffrences in the two (Altough the same types). I used the handle of the other knife and as a result of this the knife didn't lock properly when opnened. I also noticed some other small differences but fortunate didn't effect much. So if you want to use a donor knife to fix your knife. Use one of the same production batch (year).
You can definitely remove the open assist spring. It is the part removed at 3:50 in the video. I don't know about replacing the blade though. SOG does make a smaller scale version of this same knife if that helps.
I am sure you can get one from any good hardware supply store, or off McMasterCarr.com if you prefer online. The nice thing about a local store is it would be easier to find the right size it. I am not sure what the diameter is on it.
Great idea but execution not so much. Good video but you gotta zoom in man, I spent 15 minutes trying to assemble knife with the actuator on the wrong pin, couldn't see. But like I said good idea and besides the visual part it was a good walk through
Thanks Paul, I filmed this video several years ago before I had a good camera setup. I think the camera was actually too close to focus fully. It seemed good in the tiny LCD screen of the camera! I will try to film this again in the future with my newer camera setup.

Glad it helped!
Holy crap thank you for this. I took mine apart to clean and oil and shit started flying everywhere. Now its opening smooth as silk. Thank you!
Thank you for publishing a 'How To' video! I own four SOG Spring Assist knives. Your video is very helpful!

+James Lee Thanks for the additional info!
My spring at 6:11 is not fitting properly. I have no clue how to fix it. It wont line up properly
Thanks for the video instructions! My SOG trident is good as new.
Good video, just wish it was a lil more close up so I can see the pins and way that U shaped guide go in.
Thanks! And yeah I had thought the camera was a little better focused at the time. Its hard to zoom too much and still work on something while keeping it all in frame.
Thanks for the video
No problem!

Thanks for making this helpful video!
No problem! Glad it was useful.
Got a link for replacement coil springs? My SOG flares coil spring is completely out of shape.
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
Does anyone know where you can get SOG knife parts?
Can you de assist an dog trident and replace the blade with something smaller? I really want this knife but it's illegal to carry in my country

@@ModernSurvivalists they do, but it has been discontinued which is really frustrating
is there any way to get a replacement ball bearing?

The bolts are infuriatingly small
I lost the spring on mine :'(
