My dad bought a new 59 Plymouth wagon which carried a canoe, towed rock and gravel, and made many deer hunting trips. He later traded it in on a new 1964 Chrysler 300 convertible when we had no more cement to pour. Nice video.
That's awesome. I mean, that's what we do with our current cars. We don't think of them as being anything special, necessarily. Love the gravel hauling story.
It’s always nice to see him buying something classic and in my opinion much more interesting than something pedestrian from the last 20 years or newer. This will always interest me so much more than a 90s Ferrari.
YES...!!!
Agreed. I really like his woody as well.
Agreed. 90s ferrari content is unappealing because 90% of us cant afford them and theyre undriveable simply because maintaining them is very expensive. One small accident pretty much totals those cars
SOOOOOO tired of the RUclips supercar content.

Is that a "quirk" or a "feature?"
If the steering seems "vague", be glad. That was the highest level of steering "feel" available at the time. Enjoy!
*in an American car.
1959 ! That's the year I was built too !! 😅
For $27,250 ... what a deal on a beautiful car !
Yikes!!! When I bought my 59 back in like 68 I paid $600 for it.
Take care of Christine and Christine will take care of you. Hoovie did NOT watch the movie. The kid did not go on a killing spree, the CAR DID!
Yup. Although the car did change his personality into that of the previous owner.
Yup. She was jealous.
The kid enabled it, though. ...repeatedly.
It is up in the air if Arnie was there for some of it. Also she was justified in doing most of it.
This Plymouth, and the old F series, have been the most solid purchases you've ever made.
As a 29 year old who was born into the 'instant oatmeal microwavable society' that we all live in currently..... Cars from the 50's are such a trip! Wicked cool and just oozes passion!! Nice find!!
I'm 24, and I've been into old cars (pre-1990s) since I was a kid. Currently I drive a 79 Subaru DL Wagon. The newest car I owned was an 89 Mercedes 190D. I have friends who are the same way. My best friend drives an 82 Oldsmobile Toronado diesel and also has a 74 Triumph Spitfire and a 63 Rambler Ambassador. I love how easy the old cars are to work on and how nice they are to drive compared to the modern stuff. And no electronics. You can actually see and hear what's going on, both when working on them and driving them. And it's so easy to modify them, and the smallest modification can make a huge difference.
@@theodorgiosan2570 I'm 57, and hearing the younger generation being passionate about the cars I grew up with and liked is very encouraging. Also understandable, modern cars are almost all crossover utility things that look like a shoe. I don't want to drive a shoe, and you guys probably don't either.
The WHAT
As a person firmly considered Gen X it may surprise you to know that when my parents, sisters and I took long trips we would fight over who got to lay in the back window package tray for comfort.
I hate that the entire time he was driving it across the country, all I could think was fuck, that car is dangerous as hell to drive on the highway today. You would be ripped to shreds. No headrest made me wince. Fuck, I love those cars from that era, but damn, any kind of driving in anything pre 90s is really taking a gamble potentially.
You'd be surprised at how much attention car engineers paid to interior airflow back then, and even way before. They were coming up with innovative ways to keep the interior airflow fresh and as comfortable as possible going back to the 1930s. They knew it would get hot inside cars on hot days and without air conditioning technology there was a lot of attention and engineering put into getting as much airflow into the cabin as possible.
That's why you may hear a lot of old timers tell you "we didn't have A/C in cars back then but we didn't need it"...... they might be trying to sound "tough" but in reality they were no tougher than we are today - it's just that cars today do not have anywhere near the great natural airflow that cars were designed with back then, because they frankly don't need to focus on that anymore with air conditioning.
All true. Grew up when a/c was still an option in most cars. My chevelle has working factory a/c but can roll the windows down on a hot day and be ok. My 2013 truck, not so much.
Plus, EVERYBODY smoked back then, so you needed to circulate air, lest you smoke yourselves out!
@@Engineering_Improvisation Yep. Old cars had extra vent levers to bring air in from the wheel wells, the cowl below the windshield, and extra vents out the back to help air flow through the car. Today you basically have the 4 vents on the dash, two in the floor, and the defog - all of which are really just split air from the cowl.
Yes we were tougher.
The flip side to that is that it's now a lot warmer overall than it was back in their day. And no amount of airflow can overcome triple-digit temperatures, which are becoming more and more common as the years go on. AC wasn't strictly necessary back then, but it is NOW.
Got to love Clarkson, Hammond, and May! Going to miss them on tv,proper chemistry and friendship 🇬🇧👍
Wow what a beautiful 1959 Plymouth! Beautiful mint condition!
Imagine Doug reviewing this and getting locked inside and driven into a wall 😂
He'd tell you he doesn't get enough clicks when he reviews old cars, so Christine is just going to chase him down the street.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. yes, 🙌 after complaining that it doesn’t get good enough MPG’s 🥰
I don't think Christine would appreciate Doug talking about all of her "quirks and features"
See if Doug can get that radio to turn off.
Oddly, I'd be OK with that.
If it's sucking down oil like that, make sure you're putting a zinc additive in with your oil to keep it healthy. Those old flat tappet V-8s need it.
It was a part of most oils already until the 2010's...😢
RIP Top Gear. Def one of the best shows ever.
The push button transmission gave me PTSD !!!!!!!! My Dad had one when I was kid and one day I decided to sit in the Car and push the Trans Buttons over and over till I busted a Button the beating I got has been a reminder to this Day !!!!
that watergate joke was hilarious another awesome video glad to see another classic on the channel again
I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel a few years ago. You have brought many hours of joyful watching as well as a little knowledge and quite a few smiles and laughs along the way. You didn’t mention as well as all your commercial success that path also lead you to April. I know she was thrilled to ride in such a beautiful car, with such good company and enjoying such a beautiful country. As always, your videos, feel like spending a little time with a good friend. Keep up the good work and continue to enjoy the beautiful space you’ve created for yourself in this wonderful world.
My favorite movie of all time was Christine. I actually think this purchase and your Hellcat purchase both make sense unlike almost all the other cars you have purchased over the years. Can't wait for Wizard's reaction to this one. BTW you must have dual exhaust glass packs to get that proper Christine V-8 rumble.
Yeah it's a great film, have you seen maximum overdrive
Same here absolutely love that movie and I’ve watched it more times then I can count
@@paulie-Gualtieri. Nope but I will check it out. Have you seen Vanishing Point?.... another good MOPAR movie.

Yes another great film, even the 90s Gone in 60 seconds has grown on me now.
Wow. Good stuff. Might have to get a continental grabber for my LC. Loved the this video hoovie! Loved the bit at the end thanking Jeremy Clarkson. This is why you’re my favorite car RUclipsr. If you ever become one of the cast mates of the new top gear, I would 100% watch it since you actually embody the old spirit of top gear uk
My dad’s first car was a 63. He still has it and it’s awesome.
I still have my '63Fury as well. 42 years together.
THAT INTERIOR IS FABULOUS!
Hoovie, yours is the beat automotive channel to follow on RUclips for sure! From exotics to classic American steel, love your content! Thank you so much!
Yes! OG hoovies theme makes a come back! You gotta keep using that theme boogie. It never gets old
Virgil Exner was king of car styling I love his work.
Glad to see some old American Classics.
Here's a tip for you: never go through Indianapolis -- it looks shorter, but there's so much traffic and construction going on there so it takes longer. It's always better to detour down I-71 through Cincinnati and Louisville to get to St Louis.
Tyler i am the proud 2nd owner of a red 63 Plymouth 318 and a mechanic the oil consumtion is petrified valve stem seals and the ticking is possibly the MECHANICAL TAPPETS! No hydraulic lifters in there!! They need periodic adjustment. Both jobs are easy and take very little time. This is the best car you have bought! The second best was that 65 or 66 Imperial you had
As a child of the 50s I can assure you that Dodge was the "cheap" brand, "Plymouth" was the "Managers/Salesmans" brand, and Chrysler was the "Rich Man" brand. Now, if you happen up on a 1959 Buick Electra I'll be impressed.
Always wondered what the pecking order was until now. Thanks.
And for GM? Tell us please
@@royale7620 Chevy was the "cheap" brand, Pontiac was the "Excitement" brand, Olds was the "Moving up the Ladder hoping for a Buick or Cadillac one day" brand, Buick was the "Bankers" brand, and Cadillac the "Rich Man" brand.

Hoovie your channel has been one of my top 3 favorite channels on YT for years. Thanks so much for all the fun, can’t wait to see the next video!
Great to hear the theme song again on this episode!
That is an incredible car. Great find, I hope you're able to restore it to perfection; it doesn't look like it needs much. Also can't wait to see what Wizard has to say about it.
AWESOME purchase! Love the book and movie iteration.
I’ve taken old classics across country, modern gauges are a must. Beautiful car.
Tyler, I knew how much The Trio meant to you and so many of us. There will never be a team like them ever again. THANK YOU for paying tribute to Jeremy, Richard and James. Congratulations on the 59 Fury. She's beautiful.
That Interiors right out of the Jetsons it's awesome
Hoovie’s Garage and Good Morning RUclips are my favorite RUclips channels!
My great uncle had a similar Christine in the late 70s. I can’t remember the year. But I do remember how comfortable it was to drive. The seats felt like my grandmas sofa and it was always a pleasure to go for a ride. Those cars felt so solid in any weather. I remember a short 1.5 hr drive in a snow storm.
Press the gas pedal to the floor slowly twice to set the automatic choke. Then, just turn the key and the car should start and come to a fast idle, do not push the gas pedal. After the engine warms up, tap the gas pedal to get the choke to release and it should come to a normal idle speed. All this "if" the carburetor is working as it should.
Fantastic appreciation for Clarkson, Hammond and May! They have been such a huge part in all of our lives! And great that people like Hoovie carry the torch.
What a beautiful car Hoovie!
I love it!
Well done!
Qtr Windows are are sorely missed feature in my book! Love the Christine cars & the movie. Amazing purchase!
Agenda 2030 planet saving after wind tunnel modelling to increase mpg….thats what I read…crazy now we have windows one cant open at speed due to thrumming
I'm glad she isnt perfect, these cars need to be seen and enjoyed
Every new video from you is always an instant watch for me. Your knowledge of cars and approachability on everything you do is what keeps me coming back Great car and thanks for taking us along for the ride.
This has to be one of the most beautiful cars in your collection. Also the story/memory that came with bringing the car home is priceless.
I always love the old hoovies garage theme when it drops in a video
I was at the Mecum Auto Auction in Kissimmee Florida a few years ago when the actual movie car from the movie Chrisine was for sale. I thought for a minute that you jumped off the deep end and actually acquired that car! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
THIS is why I started following Hovies Garage years ago!! OMG!! I find myself clapping!! This is great and I'm not even finished watching!!!! A road trip is just the best!!
Would Hoovie define Christine's supernatural effects as a "quirk" or a "feature?"
Love the old car content! Keep finding cool old stuff that is forgotten by the modern enthusiast. Definitely should get some pre WW2 cars!
The variety of your channel is what sets you apart. Awesome car.
This is what I originally loved about Hoovies channel. Old cars being driven and all the problems that come with them. I never really like the modern sports cars he buys, I can watch'em but its the cars like this he buys that always entertain 🙂👍
What a cool car! Glad it made the trip without any significant problems. Looks like a 318 "polysphere" engine under the hood. I believe that Kanter auto parts still stocks parts for that car if you ever need any.
My parents had a '57, two tone green two door. Cool car, just can remember it.
Car wizard: Hopefully it doesn't run me over for bullying Hoovie with the repair bills! 😬
This is one of the VERY few 50's cars I'd own.
Nice tribute to Clarkson, May and Hammond. I know they are getting old and doing other things but i will miss them together. I have watched since the very beginning of Top Gear and have seen every episode more than once. Been my favorite show for decades.
Hoovie looked at Derek's favorite passtime and went "ya i can do that"
I’ve been watching for so long Tyler you are also an inspiration for me! Jeremy is also my idol! I love top gear, the grand tour, clarksons farm and I love the trio of course, James and Richard. They are a very special part of me. Recently I had the opportunity to visit the diddly squat farm but unfortunate I wasn’t able to see Jeremy. Love you channel, love what you do! ❤
I loved this road trip format!!! Great buy. '59s are reaaaally forgotten compared to the '58s which are super popular- but they're just as good. Really over the top styling! love it.
A really smart move from hoovie buying a car that repairs itself over night cause it`s posessed ;) Poor wizard...But jokes aside the only victim Christine will claim is Hoovies purse, so at least wizard will be happy.
Few 'DOMINATE" the road anymore. A video if this pulling back on the road I can watch forever.
I had a 57 Plymouth Plaza and daily drove that for a good time. Excellent video!
"Then one day I'll look at that little green bag and go oh I did that..." Underestimated the impact those three had on my life, I think a lot of us did.
I have a set of Continental tires on my 2010 Mercedes C-350 and they are wonderful. I don't typically comment on the embedded ads in your videos but this time it actually applied to something I have a lot of experience with.
Fun fact: the book Christine was a 4 door because King didn’t know that Sport Furys were only 2 doors.
Well in 58’ the fury was only a 2 door trim of the Belvedere, 59’ they became their own model available in all door configs. Thus while the movie car isn’t accurate to the book it’s accurate to reality
That’s a 59. My 57 looked a lot more like Christine, but with a higher roof line. I remember not liking the way they did the roof on the 59. Steven King could not tell the difference between a 57 and a 58. He used a picture of a 57 on the back cover leaf of the hard back. Ask the Wizard about driving it with one of the front wheels off the car. I could do it in my 57, because of the suspension design.
OMG! My favourite movie car of all time! I haven't seen the video, but I'm already loving it!
I running the grabber ATX. They are not quite as quiet as the BFG ko2 they replaced, but snow traction is so much better. I'm very happy with them, and glad they are sponsoring your channel, even if you're an idiot for buying those fancy hoopties.
You need to keep that car Tyler= absolute love it 🥰
Fun Fact about Christine ...the production 1958 Fury only came in Beige with Gold Trim....no Reds. Good journey...any well maintained car (no Matter what year) will be fine, save for weather issues.
Ive watched a lot of your vids.
Out of all of them, this is the car I want the most
Nice tribute to Clarkson, Hammond and May at the end. 22 years of something to look forward to..Mind you, we didn't have You Tube automotive content back then...
Delawarean here, I hope you had a great time here! What an awesome car!
Oniontown PA! I grew up 30 mins from there! And lived there for a few years. Awesome to see that old town in a yt video!
Late 50's and early 60's classic Mopar. I grew up with Mopar, my dad owned Chryslers all the up to the late seventies mostly New Yorkers with a Winsdor and Newport thrown in there in between. My uncle owned a dealer ship.
I kind of missed the hoovies tune that is in this video aftermarket a long absence.
Love the plymouth fury and loved the original video Christine even better, great find !
I've never had an interest in older American cars, but damn does Hoovie want to make me own one. He would be a good salesman, maybe it's time to open a dealership ;)
Not even through the video and I'll probably hate myself later but that is one of your best investments I've ever seen what a gorgeous car
What a beautiful purchase, I wouldn't worry unless the windows are suddenly blacked out and only particular music is available on the radio, Christine is possessive.
That GT episode got me i was crying. Such a beautifully sad yet joyous moment
Great video. Nice tribute to jezza, hamster and capt slow.
Don't hide April.....
So sad modern cars don't look as cool as this
I vividly remember seeing Christine when I was a teenager and really appreciated the look of this car. And felt bad at how many were destroyed in making the movie. It's nice to see a nearly identical version of the Fury, and 1 year later is a good thing. I hate to think how poor it is on gas, but as a weekender... no problem!
SUCH a lovely car - the '59 Fury is the first car I remember my grandfather driving. It will always live in my heart.
Literally nobody with any kind of car knowledge has either forgotten about this car!!! It’s one of the most iconic cars and most recognisable cars of all time
This is one of my favourite hoovie videos. I wish you documented more of the journey and did more of a review on the car. I was hooked for this whole video
Always nice to hear the Hoovie theme
No one has forgot about Christine. I loved that movie growing up, still do. Read the book many times also.
Had no idea what a curb feeler was until I watched this video. Learned something new :)
I just think that so many of the older enthusiasts are dying off, it takes a special breed to keep this type of cars alive and keep their value competitive. I guess you at that age to understand and enjoy this type of vehicle 😊
Very cool. Just drove my ‘64 Cadillac 700 miles for the Adirondack Nationals, it felt great not to have any issues after spending a year restoring it.
Why was this movie on in the middle of the day back in the day? Scarred 4 year old me for life lol
Dear Tyler, I'm pleased to see you're sticking to your new golden rules. No more burning rubber( wheelspins) or going faster than 50 mph
My first Car was a 1958 Plymouth Fury back in 1960.....Thanks Tyler.....
Old F-4 Pilot Shoe🇺🇸
Grew up with these cars - back when cars actually all looked different, and actually had personalities. Congrats on the find!
This made me amazingly happy from start to finish. One of my favourite Hoovies Garage videos ever and a great tribute at the end.
Hoovie with all the respect in the world I am mad that you have one and I don’t. Wish I had a 59 fury in red like you. Keep it up
Reminds me of my 1960 Pontiac. Great cars back in those days!
You’re correct wing windows and floor vents rule!
The electric fans will only help at slow speeds. But a heavy duty 3 row radiator will definitely keep your new wheels cooler in the heat! If the flex-fan doesn't have a shroud, I'd source one. They really help.
All I can say is THANK YOU for it NOT being (yet) another supercar. Sooooo exhausted over everybody's super car content.
The missing jack handle doubles as the missing lug wrench. The bottle jack won't work to change a rear tire. The body has to be lifted for the tire to clear the fender. Bumper jacks are DANGEROUS. My Dad traded a 56 Belvedere for a 59 FURY and we kept it for a few years. It was a great car.
