      I've always liked Shade - she could grow into a mini-Azzi Fuud in terms of producing points consistently. Currently averaging 10 PPG- if this continues, it will help this team immensely.

    Look at the Butler game, Shade played 38 straight minutes, being subbed out for the only time with 2 minutes left in the 4th. She never was breathing hard and was still elevating on her jump shot and the shot was not falling short. All the while she played with intensity and ran the floor, she is amazing. Her and KK are going to be huge now ands years to come.

      I think Geno recognized both shade and kk's energy early. Both of them are energizer bunnies and its a good thing. With a 4 guard line up they can run, run and run some more. That is going to wear down teams with traditional 3/4 position players who are bigger but slower.

    I just love how everyone got minutes outside the starters. The bench players needed minutes, Ines had some pretty good assists, amari played for a while, just great seeing geno put them out there and learn from their mistakes (turnovers and fouls)
    Also, I can’t be the only one who sees how efficient this team is, this could take them far. yes it’s expected to have low percentages against better teams but they have not been lower than 50% shooting in the past couple of games, just tells you how well executed their plans are and how much of a geniuses geno ariemma and his staff are, just wait till ice finds her groove, she’s crucial to this team, and later on to the SC game
    another thing to note, I’m so glad we have these freshmen, they’re all huge contributors to the team.

  • @helgar791
    @helgar791 8 месяцев назад +23

    This team needs Ice to play like a competent forward, and that would help with their size shortage up front. Geno has always been correct. They need Ice to play like a sophomore and not a freshman. Caroline needs to take the rest of the season off and maybe next season and get her concussion problems solved. Meanwhile Shade looks EXACTLY like Azzi when she readies to receive the pass to shoot, as well as when she goes left to right to shoot the pull up. Shade shoots off flare and slip screens as well as any player I've ever seen. She has a very precise offensive game, she knows her spots on the floor and she knows how to get to them with efficiency. She also has a great connection with Aubrey on screens and Edwards inside.

    • @helgar791
      @helgar791 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@johnidiaquez1303 Ice at this point has too many weaknesses. Like DeBerry she doesn't use her body well on offense and defense. She doesn't box out well and just like DeBerry, she doesn't read the ball off the rim well, so in order to get a rebound she has to practically be in the right spot all the time. On offense she's been having problems with the height at this level, so she misses almost every contested layup, she doesn't use her wide body to back defenders down, and she doesn't have good enough head and shoulder movement to deceive defenders on her leg drops. She does shoot very well, far better than DeBerry, and she is a good passer. But she doesn't have say Edward's speed, and on missed shots her body language is poor. On defense she loses her man almost every time down the court on switches, she's slow to close out on the perimeter, and she has issues defending when her mark backs her down. Also, since she doesn't use her body well post players can shoot over her. So no, Ice needs to earn her time on the court like Shade, who plays great defense as a freshman and is rarely out of position.

    • @jimmiesmith5590
      @jimmiesmith5590 8 месяцев назад

      I have been saying this. Yes I understand she missed an entire year due to injury. However, anyone ranked in the top 5 needs to produce. No ifs or buts, etc.

    • @helgar791
      @helgar791 8 месяцев назад

      @@jimmiesmith5590 I think Ice has the ability, but for some it takes time to produce at the college level. A great example of this is Tina Charles, who didn't begin to show her abilities until her junior year. Remember, Ice has only played a few games at this level. She has the ability, just give her some time. Plus if Sara Strong commits to UConn this year their front court next year with Elalfy will be one of the best in WCBB.

    Wasn't it great to see Amari play a whole quarter. She is so big! Granted the opposition wasn't great, but couldn't help imagining a legitimate rim presence in March. Well, one can dream!

    • @bbwng54
      @bbwng54 8 месяцев назад +3

      Unfortunately she is a lost cause. Geno is not giving her any meaningful playing time because he doesn't see it during practice. Even when she is on the court, she is tentative in decision making, turns the ball over, and doesn't score. She is a junior and don't see her turning it around; she is a prime candidate to transfer.

    Geno has been public in his approach to his “new” team. He’s resigned to the fact that they’re going to lose 5-6 buckets (at least) owing to their lack of size. He hopes to make that up by hitting 6-7 more threes than the opposition. He hopes to make a few extra free throws. He hopes to have a slight advantage on scoring off turnovers. We shall see how this approach works vs. SC. It does mean that-against the top teams-Paige and Shade must be hitting their threes.

    My prospective:
    Geno, Keep doing what your doing: A. Developing 4 frosh, letting others shine, develop their game.
    B. Play Amari
    C. Sub in Nika.Shes not a starter
    D. Paige, I love the way Geno handling her, letting her slowly come back to form. She.ll be there. Paige is,letting other's develop their game, accepting less role. This will equal success inside Feb.
    E. Sarah Strong, pull the trigger, come to UCONN.

  • @DirectionlessStudent
    @DirectionlessStudent 8 месяцев назад +4

    Absolutely correct about Paige being the primary ball handler. The Nika lovers out there need to accept the fact that Nika is not a top 20 PG -- her handle sucks and she turns the ball over way too much. Nika is the third best PG on this team TBH -- KK is already better. The development of KK and Ashlynn has been good and will need to continue if they are to keep the Sweet 16 streak alive.
    That being said...this is still not a top 10 team. They are too small to compete with the likes of SC, LSU, and Stanford. Unless someone with size suddenly steps up big time (Amari, Ice) this team will have to get lucky to make it to the elite 8.

      Having Nika start allows Aubrey to be able to sub in for 3 different players. Nika can't sub in 3 different players. i believe he wants to keep Shade and Paige on the floor as much as possible and allow Aubrey to come in for either nika, kk or edwards. with doing that it allows then nika to be able to sub kk or paige. Shade has so much energy it looks like she could play 40 mins a game with ease

    • @Sigmalicinius
      @Sigmalicinius 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@philipwhatley6742 I believe Griffin should start and Nika comes off the bench because Griffin has more to offer for Offense and Defense. Nika should come off the bench to give Griffin rest, not the other way around. Nika is not a point guard, rebounder (Off/Def) or blocker. She’s not bad on defense but UConn is small and needs more rebounds on both sides. Griffin provides that. If anything, I would start Samuels and build her confidence for March over Nika and sub her in for Griffin. Lose a few battles to prepare for the war. 🏀 they already lost 3 games. It’s all up hill from here.

    • @Paul15.
      @Paul15. 8 месяцев назад +1

      There has to be some scoring from the bench. Until Ice or if some minor miracle Caroline can provide some scoring off the bench it will probably be Aubrey. But, if Nika keeps turning the ball over it might change. It doesn't look good for Caroline. The way she played against Creighton and Iowa last year was awesome. But, she might be done for this year. She obviously can't play til the head injuries are gone.

    • @Sigmalicinius
      @Sigmalicinius 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Paul15. Caroline and Nika are done for this season. Honestly. The freshmen’s are truly playing at or above the seniors level and Samuels has tons of potential. Arnold, Shade, Brady and Samuels are the future of the program. I’d put my stock in them now. Plus, DeBerry should not be on the bench! She can grab rebounds, block and help the team as a Role player like Griffin. Every day she sits in the bench, it kills her confidence and morale to play. He’s coaching a double edge sword. Talent on the bench wasting away or talent on the court.

Fact is she's drawn one foul so far a number so mind boggling for a starter it points out the lack of ability or confidence moving to the basket to force the action and draw fouls. Beuckers only a few games divorced from carrying the team on her back, still needed to rebound against bigger teams so her focus on a game by game basis. Brady still needs a lot of work, Samuels still trying to get the confidence of the coaches with streaky play and Arnold still trying to balance speed and aggressiveness with smart high level guard play.
    One game at a time, the formula for winning can change on a dime at any time. One thing is clear, for the team to have success Beuckers needs to have confidence finding open players for shots not carrying the entire load on her shoulders.
